Current You'd think after like 15 years I'd stop feeling like a fraud when writing posts but I still do which is both a statement on my self confidence and a compliment to how good my partners are as writers

I agree that Black Panther is better than Wonder Woman, but I'd put them both in the same boat as 'not very good comic blockbuster movies' though for incredibly different reasons. I'd sooner watch Black Panther over Wonder Woman because at least Black Panther swings for a fence with its themes instead of trying to make a point with "see people are more complicated and killing a bad person won't end a war" and then immediately undercutting it by defeating one person to end a war.
Speaking of poor movies that people think are good because everyone expected them to be worse, Wonder Woman that any good acting by Gal Gadot is largely by accident.

Wonder Woman is a movie that falls apart all the way in the third act and really doesn't do anything to stand out from movies Marvel used to make back in 2008-2012 other than the whole 'it's a female led superhero movie' which goes a long way in excusing its glaring flaws and fucking laughable action scenes. It's a solid C Plus movie but by DCEU standards it's a home fucking run. Seriously, David Thewlis with cgi abs has no place in a critically acclaimed movie. It's like excusing Black Panther's shitty third act CG because it's got Wakanda in it.

Being better than bad star wars movies is not much of an achievement.

Star Wars is Bad and Dumb but those three movies are the least Bad and Dumb.
Would this thread instantly devolve to shit the moment I brought Star Wars in?

Depends on if it's an actual bad Star Wars movie like all of them except 4, 5, and 8.
I just remembered Dragon Quest 11 is out in like two months. That's the anticipated game of the year right there.
I hope with the Shenmue remake people finally realize that Shenmue is a bad game.

Killer 7 though, that's some quality Suda.
@Fabricant451 It must have been Jurassic Park and that movie was made in fucking 1993. Feelsbadjeff.

Before I start on Bright, please tell me you didn't unironically like the film because you have a hard-on for anything Shadowrun-ish.

If anything my like of Shadowrun is part of why I was so disappointed in Bright and how they did the bare minimum with its world. I did not like Bright at all, go nuts.

No independence day is a lovable meme because of all the unironic patriotic 'MURICA stuff that movie nerds cant seem to decide if it is 'so bad it's good' or 'so bad it's cringe'. When Jeff fucking Goldblum is the most normal person in your film, you are in meme territory.

Honestly I feel like Independance Day is looked fondly upon by so many is because they like the speech and forget that the movie is like two and a half hours and feels like four. It also tricked Roland Emmerich into thinking people liked him as a director for a bit.
@Mara@Fabricant451

I honestly cant remember the last good movie this man starred in. Does (the first) Independence Day count as a good movie? Or has it completed its 'loveable meme' cycle?

I think people like the idea of Jeff more than they actually enjoy his performances.

Now that you mention it I was gonna say 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' but he was more of a supporting role in that and then I had to struggle to think of a movie where he was the actual star rather than a decent supporting. Jeff Goldblum, the 'always a bridesmaid' of actors.

It's fascinating that anyone gets excited for Jeff "They paid me to be here" Goldblum these days.
