Honestly, I don't get the grief given to SAO when there's stuff like Mushoku Tensei where the MC actively lusts for underaged girls. And it's the most popular isekai in Japan.

Also, it's kinda annoying going back and forth writing short replies since I got other stuff to do and that just interrupts my rythm.

"We're not lovers." Takeshi futilely denied. "...at least, I haven't confessed properly yet."

“Then you should.” The rabbit monster replied with a stern look. “Human lives are short. What if one day you end up losing her?” As a monster, she couldn’t understand why some humans wouldn’t just marry and bed each other the moment they found their significant other. What were they waiting for?

"But you're right, they just ran into Varjans so they'll be on edge. They might react violently if they see you." Takeshi agreed with Lunatea. Closing his eyes to think of a simple way to convey that the rabbit yokai with him was an ally, he let out a deep sigh when he resigned to the only option he could take. "Alright, I'll take point... and you all stay close to me. Much closer than how we traveled previously. That way, Kikyo and her forces will not be hostile. At least, not immediately."

“Understood.” She nodded. “Then, I shall walk alongside you.”

Takeshi would find that the rabbit girl would stay just a tad too close to him for comfort as they followed the footsteps out of the destroyed village.

They followed a trail of blood and destruction left by Kikyo in the form of dead Varjan patrols who had the misfortune of running into them.

Lunatea wrinkled her nose at the corpses they found on the road. Such brutality never suited a peace-loving monster like her. Or any other monster, she imagined.

The trail took Takeshi and the taskforce into a thin forest obscured by dense fog. "I have a feeling we're getting close to them, stay alert."

“I don’t like this.” Lunatea commented once they entered the forest. “I can barely see a thing here. Even with my exceptional sight.”

“Still, it makes the perfect place for them to hide. I won’t be surprised if we get ambushed by them in the next five… maybe ten minutes,” she said matter-of-factly.

Entering the foggy forest, the group ventured a bit into the woods before Takeshi suddenly spread out his arms to block Lunatea.

The monster stopped in her tracks though not before having her breasts brush momentarily with his arms.

She glanced around, trying to see through the thick fog.

“They’re here, aren’t they?” She whispered.

And then, she saw them—the silhouettes blending with the trees. Bow-wielders. And they were all aiming their weapons towards them.

No. Not them. Her.

"...Takeshi?"

The voice grabbed her attention as well—her eyes immediately switching to the direction she heard it from.

So that’s her…

No wonder he’s fond of her… she’s beautiful…

She watched them share a hug in silence, not daring to make a move. She knew that the bowmen were still aiming their weapons at her.

And if the situation got worse… she had to be ready with her spells.

Just say that I’m with you, Takeshi… Don’t you dare forget…

Thankfully, he did remember.

But it wasn’t enough to dissuade her suspicion, it seemed.

“Well met, Kikyo-san.” She pressed her hands to the front of her dress and bowed. “My name is Lunatea Vern Farnsworth. As you might suspect, I am not native to this island. I came from the outside world under the invitation of Lady Kyouko, to help you and your people in your fight against the Varjans. So please, just because I am a youkai, or a monster—the term our people use on the outside—do not consider me your enemy. For I am your ally. And Takeshi-san can vouch for me on that matter.”

She tried to act as refined as she could, even using the honorifics the locals used.

Still, thanks to the fact that there were young human males fit to be her husband amongst the ambushers, her dress acted up anyways, flashing her tight panties and bum to them as she bowed.

Lunatea didn't know why Takeshi looked away when she healed herself. Hadn't she already told him that he could look as much as he wanted?

After they recovered from the fight, they continued their journey immediately, not wasting any time. For all they knew, the port could be under attack from the Varjans right now, since they just fought against a detachment of their forces.

As they made their way through the grasslands, Lunatea’s dress continued to flash her panties at every stray wind that blew their way. Though at this point, even Takeshi should already be used to the view. Lunatea herself had a serious look on her face, narrowing her eyes so she could catch the first glimpse of the port town at a distance. No thoughts on getting a mate crossed her mind.

When she saw the smoke rising in the distance, her heart sank. Were they too late? Had the Varjans already laid waste to the city?

And then, Takeshi bolted once again. She yelled to tell him to wait but it seemed that just like before, he really did not like listening to her.

She exchanged a short glance with her other companions before running after him—her skirt flashing her panties every step she took.

When she arrived, her heart sank even further.

The port city—it had been completely destroyed.

To her surprise, however, Takeshi didn’t let out a cry of despair. Instead, he was busy examining what remained of the place. Judging by all the corpses, and the terrible smell they were emitting, clearly a huge battle had occurred here.

Hearing his conclusion, she raised an eyebrow. “But if the Varjans lost, why does the city look like this?”

When she heard him say “Dear Kikyo”, she couldn't help rolling her eyes. She never liked public display of affection. Unless it was given to her, of course.

It didn't take long until they found the footprints leading back into the grasslands. "Hey, we can probably find your dear Kikyo by these footprints." She pointed them to him. "But you have to take the lead. Tell that lover of yours that we monsters mean no harm. I don't want to get arrows raining down on me just because they think I'm hostile."
“Oh… you’re fine.” Lunatea blinked. It seemed humans could be more durable than she had thought.

She let him stand up on his own, not wishing to injure his pride any further. When he wobbled a little, however, she grabbed his arms to keep him stable.

She gave him a stern yet concerned look. “Careful. Don’t push yourself too hard.”

“And yes, I am fine. It hurts, being slammed like that with his spell, but it’s nothing my healing spell can’t take care of.”

The rabbit monster then lifted up her skirt, all the way upwards until her belly button was visible. The reddened skin there was an obvious mark of the warlock’s attack and she intended to take care of it before resuming their trip.

She then placed her other hand on said skin, chanting the words to cast her healing spell. Light covered her hand as slowly but surely the swelling receded away.

When she finished, the skin was back to its normal, brown state. She let her skirt fall, though it wasn’t long until a stray wind picked it up again.

“You’re welcome,” she replied to his thanks.

Tch! A shield?

Lunatea cursed under her breath. She wasn’t a powerful enough sorceress to conjure a spell that could pierce through it. She had to rely on him running out of mana. Thankfully, she could count on that happening since she scarcely used her own mana to cast her spells, relying more on her panties absorbing the mana from her surroundings.

Unfortunately, she did not anticipate the sudden shift in the warlock’s movement. All of a sudden, he thrusted his staff at her direction, sending a shockwave too large and fast for her to dodge. She tried to erect a shield but it was far too late.

“Aarghhh!”

She was sent flying, crashing into a tent behind her. If it weren’t for her monster biology, there was no doubt in her mind that she would have shattered a bone or two.

The tarp covered her entire body, obscuring her view from the rest of the fight. Not to mention her own closed eyelids as she was reeling from the pain of the attack.

It hurts… so this is what a real fight feels like…

When she recovered, the fight was already over. It seemed the Warlock had been slain by Takeshi and his sword.

So why was he laying down unconscious there?

She ran up to him and crouched down, shaking his body. “Hey. Can you hear me? You’re not dead, are you?” She then looked up at Nyla and asked, “What happened? Why did he collapse like this?”

Unfortunately, other than healing minor scrapes, she wasn’t that well-versed in the art. Still, she tried anyway, casting the strongest spell she knew to his body.

“Can you heal him?” She asked the Shoggoth again. “If so, don’t just stand there. Help me. And we should carry him to one of the tents so he could rest.”

"I'm not surprised. Such are the ways and wiles of yokai." Takeshi replied immediately. "And yes, I did find your buttocks cute. But they stopped being cute at around the third time you showed it off. Now it's just a nuisance, like an annoying fly buzzing and irritating me in every possible way." Takeshi pulled no punches. It was strangely cathartic for him too, to finally say something to the yokai other than pleas for help.

Well, sure, he had to lie that Lunatea's behind stopped being cute, but it still got annoying.

With folded arms, Lunatea raised an eyebrow at his reply. What was that supposed to mean? She thought to herself.

“You said my butt isn’t cute anymore after the third time. Then why do you still stare at it at the fourth time? And the fifth? And the sixth? I find your claim to be quite paradoxical, Sir Takeshi.”

She was quite confident on the matters regarding the cuteness of her butt so she couldn’t let that comment of his slide.

Lunatea watched as the Varjans began to scatter and retreat, smiling as she did. She would rather not be forced to fight them all if she could. And so, when some of them ran to her direction, she let them go without a fight.

But then, it happened.

A powerful presence entered the battlefield. He somehow redirected her wind spell, sending it to where she stood.

What?!

She let out a scream as she was sent flying. She would've crashed into Nyla if not for her reversing the momentum by casting another wind spell mid-flight. She landed on all fours right in front of the Shoggoth, her butt up in the air, showing off her panties to the maid.

Tch, what was that?!

She looked up and finally saw the one responsible for redirecting her spell.

That is… a human warlock?

She clicked her tongue. She now had to fight an actual spell caster.

She watched as Nyla tried to immobilize the man with her tentacles. Only to find out that he was more than capable of repelling each and every single one of them.

She needs my help! I should use my magic as a distraction so she could grab him.

She jumped from her crouching position before she made her way to the flank of the warlock. Using her superior speed, she fired blasts of water, fire, thunder, and all the other basic spells that were quick to cast, all the while dodging the warlock's own spells. She hoped he could make it difficult for him to handle both her and Nyla's attacks. @Rune_Alchemist@PaulHaynek

If you think that, then you do not know our customs at all, monster."

Lunatea paid a short glare at her before replying, "You're right. I scarcely know your custom. But I know for a fact that throwing your life away is just that: throwing your life away."

She interrupted her reply to flick her finger, causing the air to explode around the face of a Varjan soldier.

"I understand though, that a custom is a custom. And I respect your people's choice in following it. So I will not make any more sour comments regarding it."

She finished her speech by lifting another soldier with her blast of wind, turning him upside down before letting him fall head first to the ground.

"It's a long story." Takeshi chuckled. "It involves an important ceremony, a missing miko and the whole island watching." The young Oja wondered if he should have humored the rabbit yokai. It was a small exchange, but a sign of camaraderie surely.

Lunatea tilted her head. “Ah, I guess you mean he replaced the miko. Hmm, how curious. Is crossdressing acceptable in your society?”

Their trip to Wadatsumi Port was, at first, quite uneventful. Lunatea took in the beautiful scenery without letting her guard down in the slightest. For she believed that the Varjans could appear at any corner, especially since they were now walking in unfamiliar territory.

Her skirt, however, didn’t have the same privilege.

It continued to blow upwards from any stray wind that occured, and sometimes, without any winds at all, showing off the bunny’s panty-clad buttocks to Takeshi, Nyla, and Roku. Mainly to the former, as part of the dress’ programming to expose as much of its wearer’s panties to an attractive male. It certainly didn’t help to ease Takeshi’s… view on her kind.

If he were ever to mention the fact to her, she would just say something to the effect of, “It’s okay if you want to see my panties. Unlike some, I’m not shy about showing off my body. My mother caught my father by constantly flashing her underwear to him. I intend to find my husband the same way, especially since she said my butt is cute and all.” She would then take a step close to him and whisper, “Do you find my butt cute? I have yet to ask enough males to affirm my mother’s opinion to be a fact.

Truly, an attitude befitting of a monster.

Her tomfoolery was soon stopped, however, by the presence of a Varjan encampment. She quickly hid behind a rock with the other three. Crouching down with her legs folded like that meant she was yet again showing off her black panties to his eyes.

“You want to do it alone? Don’t be stupid.” Lunatea quickly chastised him while still exposing her underwear. “Do you want to die? No amount of honor is worth it if you lose your life achieving it in the process.”

And yet, no matter what she said, he insisted on doing it alone. And so she decided to just let him go and see how well he did. If he started to get overwhelmed, then she would join in.

She didn't have to wait long.

"Oh for Lilith’s sake…"

She dashed in, readying her spell as she ran. Her panties reacted, sending a surge of wind that lifted up her skirt. Her first blow wasn't that of her wind magic, however, as she jumped forward and performed a dive kick on the nearest Varjan soldier. Her feet were enhanced with the element of earth, adding both weight and durability. The last thing he saw was her black panties, before losing consciousness entirely.

She followed up by ducking behind the nearest tent, dodging the arrows the Varjan archers were firing at her. She used the opportunity to charge up a quick wind spell (bellowing her skirt in the process yet again), just in time to throw it to an approaching soldier, knocking him away.

She looked at Nyla and Roku. They should come to his rescue as well, right?
"Monsters! If any of you still have some form of honour, face me! Your kind is not welcomed on these shores and I, Yoshihara Roku, will see that your corruption is erased here and now!"

Lunatea rolled her eyes. Great. Another person who thinks all monsters are bad.

She's terribly wounded though. And yet, she still wants to pick a fight with us?

…Wait, no. She’s not wounded. She’s… she’s an undead. An undead monster!

So why does a monster like her hate her own kind?

She decided to let Shizuka handle her. He seemed to be willing so who was she to disobey?

And then, they decided to settle their distrust with, what else, a good old-fashioned sword duel.

It was impressive to be sure. But must they resort to violence right away?

Really, she didn’t think she would ever be able to understand the heart of a warrior in her lifetime.

She watched them engage in their sword fight with both curiosity and annoyance, intertwined in one contradictory manner. It couldn't be helped. She herself had always been somewhat of a contradictory person.

Hmm, I guess they both are impressive… I can barely see their movements… Especially Shizuka's…

Well, at least that's over quickly, thankfully enough. Thanks to that Takeshi person, nonetheless.

"No...you're lying. There is no way a warrior such as yourself would be with Monsters...unless you've been corrupted."Roku Yoshihara

"He's not corrupted, you imbecile." Lunatea butted in, as she often did. "We're not here to get husbands. We're here to save this land from the Varjans." She half-lied. She certainly wouldn't refuse a cute man, she thought, if she happened to meet one on their journey.

She paid a glance to Samael, not-so-subtly marking him as a candidate.

She watched with satisfaction as Takeshi defended them. Glad that man is coming to his senses. She especially smirked when he broke the news that she was a monster now. Welcome to the club!

As she expected, she didn't take it well, to the point of declaring suicide. Ah, was this the famed seppuku she had heard about? That would be quite the sight to see.

Thankfully (or unfortunately, if you saw it from the eyes of a heartless anthropologist), Takeshi managed to talk her out of it.

Noticing her blush, she rolled her eyes to the back of her head. And now she has a crush on the young lord…

Nothing else noteworthy happened that night. They ate and slept, taking turns keeping watch, before they woke up in the morning, hopefully well-rested for the challenges to come.

For the next day and a half, Lunatea kept herself busy admiring the scenery, jotting down notes in her notebook while memorizing it in her mind as well. It was unfortunate that they didn't pass through any human dwellings however, as she certainly could use a day or two in one of them, interviewing the residents, noting their cultures, etc, etc.

And then, all of a sudden, Takeshi wanted them to split up.

I suppose there’s wisdom in that. To cover more grounds, it’s better if we go separately.

Still, that also means splitting up our firepower…

She sighed, shaking the thought off her head. It wasn’t her job to come up with the plans.

“Dressed as a miko?” She raised an eyebrow at his statement. “What do you mean by that exactly?” She asked him.

He then gave them their options—which one of those people they would come visit and ask for aid.

“I’ll go with Kikyo,” she declared. “She seems to be the most normal of the bunch. It’s better for a weakling like me to chase after such a person.”

She wasn’t afraid to call herself a weakling. It was the truth after all. She was just a scholar, not a warrior. The only reason she could fight was because of the panties she wore.

As for the matter of the prisoner, she opted to leave it to the others. There was no way she could be bothered with such a troublesome task.
At Samael's remark, Lunatea gave him a glare and a blush. She would much prefer him to keep their secret only to themselves, thank you very much!

Still, she did feel it was sweet of him to talk about their relationship in such a way. Another reason why she fell for him, she supposed.

As for him hugging her leg like that, well, let’s just say she enjoyed the sensation.

Cambiel's response to Kerry's question took her by surprise. Though if she were to think about it, it all made sense. As an angel, he would hate the Great Change more than anyone. As a monster, who could agree with Lilith’s ideal, she certainly welcomed the Great Change, as well as her parents, but to an angel, it certainly would be a terrifying thing to go through, seeing how slowly, you saw your comrades being corrupted by Lilith’s power.

She gave him a sympathetic look from a distance. She almost wanted to go to him and pat him on the head but she knew he’d probably hate her for it. Angels tended to be quite proudful after all.

When Atsuha walked over and thanked her for saving her sister, Lunatea replied with a bow. "You're welcome, Miss Atsuha. Though, I have to wonder, what is that talisman sealing? I never met a monster with such a… threatening presence before. To be frank, I'm worried sending her out to the battlefield in such a state." She continued, referring to her unsealed self.

After speaking to her, she watched her apologize to Sam for her sister frightening him. To be honest, she didn't think she should've done that. Coddling him like this… it would only encourage him to stay weak, something he couldn't be if he wanted to tag along with them.

And then, all of a sudden, she felt it. A new presence entering their camp.

"Stay close to me." She told Samael. "Hey you! Identity yourself!"

"Well, I was floored by it, but at this point." Lunatea sighed. "I'm too tired to be surprised anymore."
