Name: Jaya Vermill Identification/Serial Number: ET-4920 Rank: Corporal Role: Marksman, also the veteran presence amongst the squad. Age: 33 Gender: Female Nickname: N/A
Psychological Analysis: Jaya is distant in her demeanor, she is normally very quiet, though won't hesitate to lash out at someone if they are doing something wrong, especially the new recruits. Years of war have affected her emotionally and mentally, she tends not to create any connections with those that are in her squad as they more often than not end up dead, especially the new ones.
She is what the Empire looks for in their soldiers, loyal to the cause and willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done. When in mission she puts it above everything else and lets nothing stand in the way from accomplishing a task.
Military Record: Jaya was born on the core world of Corulag to two wealthy parents. Her childhood was nothing out of the ordinary, schooling, classes, the best that her family could afford for her. She never was that interested in academics, but her father was a wealthy banker and he pushed for her to be more of the same, or even a politician.
When the Empire rose her planet was fiercely loyal to the Emperor, and as such she was the same. When the Empire began to openly accept enlisted soldiers she joined up right away. Her training was the same as her male's counterparts, but she still passed with flying colors. She showed skill with a rifle and began down the path to become a Scout trooper. She saw combat right out of training and showcased her talents as a deadly shot with her sniper rifle. She was placed in the 121st, against her liking, but she did not object.
In my absence, though I will be checking in periodically, @Heat and @Sep are in charge of this thread, accept any of their criticisms as if they were my own.
@Lucius Cypher Both characters look good, only thing I'm not big on is the truck. A gas guzzler like that would be terrible in the apocalyptic scenario. It's extremely hard to find gasoline, especially two months after the outbreak.
@nicksilavong Accepted. Nice to have a cook in the settlement.
@Halcyon It's up to you if you want to change her occupation. If you want to go back and edit Carmen to something other than a doctor then that'd be fine. Maybe a teacher?
Carmen is accepted, but I'm curious, how many crossbow bolts does she have? Arrows for that might be scarce unless she is a really on it about retrieving the bolts after they are fired.
@Gypz Kat is accepted. Interesting character, I'm intrigued to see how someone who spent her whole life on a Mohawk reservation embroiled in her people's traditions will fit in with this group of people.
@Penultimate_Pi That's exactly what I was planning, part of be allowed into Haven was to agree to stockpile any firearms. It kicks down the risk of a high emotion situation going out of control when the people are packing heat. I'll probably create a list of firearms that are stockpiled, though it will be very short to start. Hehe.
Also, for everyone, don't be afraid to make as many characters as you can manage. I would love it if it start the settlement was loaded with PCs, that would create some fascinating plot points. Maybe even a teenager or something? I myself am probably going to make one more character.
All whos characters have been accepted may post them to the Character's tab.
It was a sunny, cool day around the settlement. A few clouds were in the sky, but none large enough to block out the late morning sunshine. Ten o'clock AM on a Wednesday, the eighteenth of November, though days and months mattered little in the post apocalyptic world the survivors were unfortunate enough to find themselves in. They were now just a way for the people who still kept track of them to ready themselves for the changing seasons. Winter would be upon them in a few weeks, and the many pessimists assumed that it would be a terrible one to come.
It was a quiet morning, as a few crows flapped their black wings over town, their eyes on the people below, the birds were in search of any carrion in the area. There was none of that to be found in the settlement. It had been almost a week since the settlement had to deal with a dead person, they had since burnt and buried the corpse away from town. But there was a buzz in the air among the people of the settlement, food supplies were starting to run low, they would need to send out a scavenging party, maybe others to hunt for wildlife in the dangerous area that was around them.
Logan Walsh moved through town like a man on a mission, with each footstep his green eyes scanned the sights in front of him. He was an early riser, always had been, the change to a post apocalyptic world had only invigorated that in him. The thoughts in his mind were focused on the food, their supply of rations was dwindling by the day, but the thought of assembling a party to go out and find food always scared the cautious man.
He walked into the beaten wooden house across from the towering church, pushing open the front door as he entered, it popping open with a creak. When he had originally come upon the abandoned settlement, the door was off the hinges outside of the building. Some of the Haven's residents put it back onto its hinges but the creaking was something that wasn't addressed.
The house had become a sleeping area for some of the settlement's residents, it had a roof over most of it, that was enough for the people that took shelter within its walls. He walked into a room, what used to be a den, and found his own daughter Alexandra on the floor, her hands holding a book as she turned a page. Though her beautiful blue eyes focused on her father as he entered the room with a knock. Her eyes were always something that made him somber to look upon, they were like his wife's own ocean blue irises.
"I'm surprised your awake, how long have you been up?" Logan asked her as he leaned against the door frame.
"A couple of hours, I don't sleep that well anymore." Alexandra replied as her blue eyes drifted back to the book.
"What are you reading?"
"Some old book I found in one of the bedrooms, its about this college kid that left his old life behind to live in the woods up in Alaska." She said.
"That would be a nice place to live with all of the zombies running around." Logan said with a smile.
"Yeah, well he died because he was totally unprepared to live there. It's sad."
"I'm sure. But you can't sit around and read all day, what were you going to do today?"
"Well, I heard that we're running out of food. I thought that I could volunteer to go out and search for some?" She said, her words turning into a question directed at her father who was one of the leaders in the settlement.
"No, it's too dangerous. It's a completely different way out there, you never know what or who you will run into. I think you'd be better off helping out Jane or Morgan with the wounded, you'd probably learn something." He said back, his voice with a stern tone to it.
"Come on dad. You know I can help out there, please?" She asked as he popped to her feet and left the book on the floor in the process.
"Still no, we have people that I think would be best at it."
"But you said yourself that everyone has to help out, I can help them." She said, looking right at him with her ocean eyes.
"Yes, you can help, medically. You're a smart kid, I'd love it if you focused that on saving lives. We can never have enough doctors around here." Logan said back, then folded his arms before his daughter stormed past him, upset that her father had shot down the idea.
Skills - Has had experience hunting, knows how to track prey and lay traps. - Knows how to fly planes. - Possesses good teamwork skills from years working in airlines. - Can remain calm in situations that require it and knows how to take charge during emergencies.
Flaws - Can act very stubborn and dislikes being wrong. - Extremely protective of his daughter, Alexandra, while this isn't naturally a bad thing, he's in the overprotective realm when dealing with her. He doesn't want to put her in any potentially dangerous situations. - He is not trusting of strangers, he's seen what people do in desperate situations.
Firearm proficiency: 3 - Has handled guns on hunting trips with his friends in the past. He kept a pistol in his home before the outbreak and knows how to use a gun, though he is by no means fantastic at it.
Weapons: A crowbar and a hunting knife.
Equipment: A half empty case of matches, a quarter full canteen of water and a flashlight with no batteries.
Apparel: He typically wears a grey jacket, a white longsleeve shirt, dark blue jeans and black boots.
Personality: A quiet man, especially since the outbreak, Logan is normally a man of few words, though he is not afraid to speak his mind when he feels he needs to. He's most concerned with his daughter's safety, but he also cares about Haven's survival as well. He actually thinks it can be somewhere that a decent life in such a terrible time can be built, provided enough work is put into its upkeep.
Backstory: Logan was an airline pilot before the outbreak, he had been years before it, at the time of the outbreak he was living with his wife, Anne, his daughter, Alexandra was going to a community college in the area. He was home from work when it happened, reports on the news, initially he brushed it off as nothing, then on a trip to pick up groceries he saw a man bite another.
As the panic occurred he rushed home, his wife was there, their daughter was not. She was out with her friends, Logan and his wife's priority was to find Alex and ensure that she was okay. She came home an hour after, right as Logan was coming down the stairs with the pistol he kept in a safe in his bedroom.
They moved to leave town, Logan barely avoiding getting stuck in traffic alongside the hundreds of others that had the same idea. His family and him managed to connect with one of his friends and his wife. Together they moved away from their town, unsure of where they were going, they just had to avoid the undead hordes. In the chaos his friend was bit, and Logan had to put him down when he turned and mauled his wife.
They just tried to survive for the weeks after, as they left town and went away, towards the woodsier areas where there were fewer people and less a chance of running into any of the undead. In a surprise bout of luck they came upon an abandoned cabin, they took shelter in it, occasionally leaving to scavenge for supplies. Two and a half weeks before the establishment Logan came home to find that his wife had been bitten. In tears he put her down as he shouted for his daughter to keep her eyes shut.
After burying his wife, Logan and his daughter moved on, eventually coming into contact with other survivors in the area where Haven would be located. From there they moved to establish it as a safe haven.
Other: N/A
Alexandra Walsh
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Occupation: College student
Skills - Has limited medical knowledge from nursing classes while in college. - She is an organized person, someone that is responsible. - She has always been very self reliant, that reliance on herself only increased when the apocalypse occurred.
Flaws - She can be very trusting of people, even strangers. - Alex is a not a very powerful person, nor that physically imposing. - She always tries to help a person in need. It's hard for her not to. - Sometimes will act boldly, often off emotions.
Firearm proficiency: 2 - Her father taught her how to use a pistol, but she's never actually shot anything outside of stationary targets.
Weapons: A wooden baseball bat.
Equipment: Three feet of rope, bandages, medical tape, a quarter full canteen of water, a compass and a pocket lighter. She carries these items in a backpack.
Apparel: She wears a leather jacket, a button up longsleeve shirt, a sleeveless undershirt, jeans and boots.
Personality: A naturally kind and caring person, Alexandra still hopes for the best in humanity. She's the opposite of her father in some regards, she'd like to see Haven take in people that come, especially if they're in dire situations. She doesn't like having to kill anyone, but will do it if she absolutely has to.
Backstory: Alexandra before the outbreak was a nursing student in the community college near the town she grew up in. When the outbreak occurred she was out with her friends, they were at the mall together, police came in and ordered everyone to leave as the mall closed, though they did not elaborate on why they were forcing everyone out. After hearing the news on the radio she sped home, right as her parents were going out to look for her.
Together with her parents they left town, in the process connecting with two of her father's friends. Alex was horrified when one of the friends was biten, then dove at his wife and started to tear into her with his teeth. Her father put a bullet in the man's head, he as horrified by it as Alex was.
They took shelter away from town, finding a cabin which they hid in for weeks. Alexandra was in the cabin when her mother was bit, she ran out of the building after hearing screams and found her mother being mauled by a zombie. Alex grabbed a piece of wood and swung at the undead creature, she managed to kill it, then broke down as she saw her mother laying in a pool of her own blood. Her father came home to the scene and put down his wife, not wanting to see her turn into one of the things that had attacked her. The incident still haunts Alex to this day.
Her father and her moved on after that, eventually coming upon the area which would be known as Haven. Some other survivors welcoming them in, her father cautious of their intentions, but he was wrong with the caution. She has lived there with her father ever since.
Approximately two months ago the world ended, undead hordes rose and millions died. No one is still sure what caused it, the most popular guess is a vaccine gone wrong or a new disease, no one is certain, and frankly no one cares to be certain anymore, they just care about survival. It's the best train of thought in the world we live in now.
Survivors exist, though only outside of the cities which were bloodbaths, life continues in the less densely packed places of the country, the forests, plains, even rumors of communities in the far away mountains. Trust is not a thing that should be easily given to survivors, roving gangs of bandits exist, scowling the land for people to assault, rape, kill and loot. If those don't kill you then the starvation will, or even worse, the undead.
But safety can be found in groups, communities of likeminded individuals in highly guarded settlements can be found rarely across the land. One such place is the newly created settlement of Haven, filled with people intent on surviving no matter the odds. Its stood for a week now, new arrivals are being accepted provided they can contribute.
It is currently mid November, fall is in season, but winter is coming. Supplies must be gathered to ensure survival against the brutal weather to come.
Haven:
Built in the remnants of a small town, Haven at its establishment contains seven buildings, the largest and in the best shape being the church. Across from it is an abandoned home, the windows are broken and the roof is caved in above the kitchen. Behind the church is a small warehouse containing some useful items such as axes, hammers, nails and some electronic tools, which are useless without working batteries. Another destroyed home sits near the church, its entire frame collapse except for one wall.
The church is considered Haven's center, any important meetings take place inside of it. On top of the church is a small bell tower, the bell rusted and removed. Often a member of the settlement will camp up there, their eyes peeled on the distance around, watchful for anyone coming towards Haven.
Up the hill from the church sit the four other buildings, another house, in similar shape as the other, except the windows are boarded up. Two smaller buildings sit near it, these once contained horses, but the animals are long gone. The final building is another shed, which contains the same equipment as the other. A trail leads up the hill, into the woods north of the settlement. Nothing of use was found up this trail.
There is room for improvement, all of the buildings besides the church require repairs, and if the proper materials are found then more buildings could be built as there is a large amount of space. A wooden fence surrounds the lower perimeter of Haven, this could be upgraded to provide more protection. There is enough land for crops and livestock, its just a matter of keeping the crops and animals alive.
Armory:
Will be updated when more characters are accepted.
Rules:
1. No godmodding, metagaming, etc. 2. Characters can die. By joining the RP you acknowledge that your characters can and may die depending on your decisions. 3. Post at least once a week in the IC. If you have to leave the RP for whatever reason, please say so. If you are going to be unable to post for a period of time then also please say so. 4. Romance, swearing and gore are allowed. Just keep it within the site's rules. 5. Please roleplay in third person perspective, it is a pet peeve of mine. 6. Realism has a place in this RP. Your character shouldn't be running around dual wielding AK47s. If your character gets hurt, they should act that way. A bullet is really painful. 7. Be nice to each other on the OOC. Any issues should be brought up to me and the co-GM(s). 8. This is an advanced level RP. I do expect at least two solid paragraphs per IC post. Absolutely no one liners. 9. Please make your characters interesting with actual flaws and imperfections. I love character development. 10. If you leave the RP then I gain total control of your characters. I'll probably kill them off. Same applies for people who I don't hear from for an entire week and I deem inactive from the RP.
