If that's how they choose to be, that's their prerogative, but I find it difficult to understand why someone would choose to behave even less real than I am.

Yes. People wear masks all the time of how they want others to perceive them—most of the time it's a struggle to get a single real word out of them, and everything else they say is a facade. Meaningless. I like getting to talk to real people from time to time who aren't just concerned with how others look at them.
