Hello I'm the friend,

Please do tell me if I've made him a bit much.

Jake studied his superior's facial expressions. It looked to be a carefree expression, with, perhaps the most genuine, fleeting hints of guardedness. Acclimating to any new environment is difficult. Especially one where you move from a bustling metropolis to a quiet, out-of-the-way town. Though that may change soon, it does not change the contrasting experiences. Even Jake was unsure how long he would take to deal with the cultural whiplash. Recent times have shown public opinion of police officers have been going down, and while understandable, likely wouldn't have helped Levi's acclimation to Sanctuary, especially considering how he was treated with that run in earlier.

"How long have you been on the force now? How are you liking it?"

The question snapped Jake out of his idle ruminations. The boy can easily get lost in his thoughts, as his minds wanders easily. "Ah, not more than a year of being a police trainee, sir." Jake replies, "I was expecting being disliked as an officer, but it was a tad worse than I thought. Not that I'm one to complain, though. The civil unrest at officers in our country... well, it seems somewhat warranted."

"Maybe it isn't even that." He muses, as the waitress returned to place his water in-front of him. "Much appreciated." He idly began drinking the cup of water.

"Seeing as you're... well, experienced in police work, do you have any advice for fledglings like me?" He continued, "Despite how listless I appear, I'd rather not not be splattered with mud." Jake let out a light chuckle at his 'joke'.

"Almost... being the key word, sir." Jacob replied, "Luckily I have lightning quick reflexes." He joked dryly. Though he jests, the situation with the irate driver was a tad annoying. It wasn't like he took personal pleasure in writing them up, he was just following the letter of the law. It was as if the driver was a child who was never reprimanded before. Well, he'll likely have to get used to such things, given that it was now his job and all. "Hopefully it won't escalate any further than that petulant behaviour." With a light sigh, he pushed those thoughts out of his mind, instead opting to focus on the menu.

Jacon nodded at the waitress- Emma. An individual he had a passing knowledge of- a happy and boisterous waitress of the Cozy Bear Diner. Sometimes a tad too bright and positive for him, but she was a nice sort. She also didn't seem to balk at his being a police officer, unlike some of the other folks of the town. "Mornin' Emma. Hope you've had a better morning than me." He smiled at her, "I'll have the eggs and bacon, with some water, Emma, thanks."

"That aside, has Sanctuary been treating you well?" Jacob asks, knowing well how Levi was a relative newcomer to the small, rural town. Jacob followed his line of sight, while Levi was focusing on Jacob he seemed to take occasional glances at the conversing women a few tables away. With a curious brow, he asks, "Is there any trouble, sir?"

Jake mulled over the message from his superior officer. Levi was somewhat right in that the sheriff would very likely not notice him slipping out for a short break. The sheriff seemed very lax. His stomach grumbled in defiance to his excessive thinking. It couldn't hurt, could it? With those thoughts, he revved up his car and exited the speed trap, making his way to the Cosy Bear CafΓ©.

Jacob parked his police car. The Cosy Bear CafΓ©'s an establishment he's visited before. A quaint, rustic coffee shop. The CafΓ© had more customers than usual, a sight that gave Jake some gladness. He liked that they were receiving patronage. He stepped into the shop, scanning the insides for officer Brooks. He found Levi after a moment, offering him a slight wave before making his way to Levi's table. He did not seem to acknowledge nor know that a new face on the police force may not be met well by the townsfolk of Sanctuary.

"Hello, sir Levi." Jacob says, pale blue eyes resting on the gruff man, before taking a seat across him. Jacob, too, studied the unattended menu ahead of him whilst trying to make idle talk, "How's your morning been? As for me, some guy almost splattered mud on me, so my morning's been goin' swell." He let out a dry chuckle as he says those words.

Jacob eyes the patrons of the cafΓ©. There were a few faces he recognized. Except for one, who appeared to be a stranger to Sactuary. He prided himself on knowing or being acquainted with the faces of Sanctuary. New faces were not an uncommon sight, usually truckers or hapless couples passing by. Still, it was something to raise an eyebrow over. As a police officer, it was probably best to keep the new faces in mind, just in case.

9:00am

"... Avoid speeding next time, sir." Jake said, the slightest hint of a frown present on his fair features. The speeding man was clearly not happy with the ticket but seemed to bite his tongue as soon as he caught sight of Jake. He couldn't exactly let them off with a warning, driving recklessly in such dangerous weather. It would set a bad precedent, or atleast he thought so. He wouldn't want to be the officer others go to for favours and such, after all.

Rain dripped off his loose raincoat as Jake sped walk back into his car. The other driver screeched off, almost spattering the mud and water onto Jake. An annoyed sigh escaped his lips as the car disappeared into the distance, under the speed limit.

The warmth of his car seeped into his core as he let himself simmer into the seat with closed eyes. His ears perked up, hearing his phone go off.

It was Senior Officer Levi Brooks. A newcomer to Sanctuary, but clearly experienced in his work, if a bit gruff. Levi had asked if he wanted anything from the Cosy Bear. He wrote up a quick reply;

Good morning, sir. Do you think Sheriff Williams will give me some time to personally eat some breakfast? I don't think the day's going to get wilder than that driver.

Jacob's day started huffing and sweaty. Not one to make promises lightly, he was giving his all. He was training his body to better prepare himself for the possible physical altercations Police Officers may get themselves into. With one, final exhale he finished his daily exercise. After taking a moment to catch his breath he headed towards his bathoom to clean and freshen up for the day.

The day started off with heavy rains, which would definitely make his journey to the Sheriff's office more arduous.

Arriving at the office Jacob gave a smile and nod to those who met his eyes before he made it to his locker. He still wasn't entirely used to the uniform yet but he'd manage.

Despite being the newest cadet, he was given alot of responsibility than one would expect. Perhaps it was due to the low manpower of the force. He was also called into the office earlier, making him eschew breakfast. Jacob mulled these thoughts as he waited behind a billboard in a police car. These types of duties were usually boring, which is something he much prefers. He rather it be boring than busy. Especially in his line of duty.

Jacob's hopes would be dashed as a speeding car whizzed by the silent roads. With a sigh, he flicked the police sirens on and pursued.
