Bio

Hey all, JB here.

I'm a DM for a large number of games here on RPG, as well as a player in several others. Many of the games I run are overly complex, or they involve Dungeons and Dragons (which is also overly complex!).

I work 40+ hours a week, and am the proud father of two tiny terrors named Chibi and Chibette and married to my beautiful Wifey. As such, I am quite busy more often than not. I typically write 2-5 paragraphs per reply and try to maintain an excellent level of grammar. If you noticed me glancing at your profile, I probably was looking to see if you would be a good match for my RPing style. Even if I didn't send a PM to you, feel free to send one back!

I enjoy 1x1 RPs and small groups. I'm fond of medieval, steampunk, and futuristic settings, and I'll jump into romance, adventure, and slice of life RPs fairly quickly, although supernatural (vampires, werewolves, etc) RPs get old for me pretty quickly. If you're looking for an RP partner and I've glanced at your profile, then I'm most likely willing to give it a shot, but decided against PMing you because I'm actually kinda shy. But I'm always looking for a new friend!

Please feel free to say hi at any time!

Rose might not be around for a little bit, but I'm about 90% certain she'd accept the character.
As the dragonborn let fly with his javelins, a mighty wave roared forth from the seas, threatening to send us all to Davy Jones' locker. It crashed into the boat as those whose feet were firmly planted on solid wood were able to brace themselves, but those in the rigging and crow's nest were flung about like a toddler's yo-yo. This storm seemed to have a life of its own!

>Those on the deck are easily able to grab ahold of something to steady themselves, but those who are climbing on the masts and rigging will need to make a Dexterity Save. This includes @Gordian Nought, @Big Dread, and @Zverda.

>Calico Reemes is unable to hold on and falls off the edge of the ship into the icy water below, taking 11 bludgeoning damage and 8 cold damage. He is prone in the water.

>Koan holds on to her grasp on the Mizzenmast and does not fall.

>Nemiea is knocked free from the Crow's Nest and plummets to the deck, taking 10 bludgeoning damage, but manages to land on her feet.
As Katia landed next to the giant blob of shadow, she looked up at him, her eyes gleaming with intensity. ”Come on, big guy,” she muttered just as a blast of energy crashed down on Thea with more power than she had seen from it yet. Thankfully, she knew her aasimar friend should have no real issues absorbing such a hit, but the blow looked like it would have turned her into shadowy mist had she been its target instead. However, this was the opportunity she had been waiting for. Harnessing some of the necrotic energy from the blast, she cupped her hands and redirected it back towards the shadow, the darkness being transformed into radiance as it left her hands. ”Take this!” she yelled, wincing from the pain caused by the blast.

Then everything went white. Then black. Then bright blue. It took Katia a moment to realize what had happened, and what was happening as they fell. She instinctively rotated her body in the air, attempting to land feet first into whatever ground she would crash into, but her plummet was stopped by a cacophony of leaves. She lay there for a moment, breathing heavily from exertion as the jays exploded around her, a wide-eyed ecstatic smile on her face. ”That... was... AWESOME!” she shouted into the sky. ”Guys, did you see that?! It was like -WHAM-! And then -FwooooooSHAAAA-!” She mimicked the reflexive motion again, this time focusing her ki into her palms instead of gathering outside energy, and shot a blast of radiance into the air. ”Aww yeah! We killed the bad guys!”

Her jubilation continued thus for a little while as she slowly began to climb her way down from the tree. In reality, she knew just how close they were to being little more than a few specks of dust after that fight, and it was little less than a miracle that they were able to fight it off. The massive destruction that shadow could wield, the spinning black orb of death, and the fact that they appeared to be on a completely new world if she had any guess; all of these would normally give one pause. But Katia knew her place in this group. It was one of the few places she felt like she truly belonged, and despite how most of them would react with their super-serious faces, Katia's role was one of levity and enjoying the moment.

As Katia reached the base of the tree, she kicked off its trunk for the last few feet before rushing over to her allies at full speed. After their encounter with the shadows, this place felt like a paradise, and there was little that felt better than the wind flowing through her fur as she let out a little pent-up energy. Or course, her friends were too close to really go all out, but she arrived in a flash, panting slightly, and one question on her tongue. ”So uh... anyone know where we are?”

Have you ever seen a waterspout? It's what happens when a twister hits the ocean, sending a column of water hundreds of feet in the air. They only show up in the roughest of storms, and the smart sailors turn tail and run long before they get close enough to see one.

No one ever accused me of being the smartest of sailors.

A few months after I had liberated my "inheritance" and collected my crew, we were sailing in one such storm. Waves crested above our mizzenmast, and winds were so strong that we had tucked all our sails, letting Neptune's fury guide us. And there we saw her: the most beautiful waterspout ever formed by the gods. It must have been a hundred cubits wide, clear blue like a swirling lake in the sky. As the waves drew us closer, dozens of fish began to plummet from the sky, many of them crashing down on our decks.

"No hardtack tonight, boys!" Jill sang out as she wrestled with the ship's wheel. "Pick 'em up and stow 'em in a bag! And keep an eye on the spout!"

>The party gains two dozen rations worth of raw fish.

Little did we know that the waterspout was the least of our worries, for as our ship drew near, it became obvious that this was no ordinary spout. As we looked up to the sky, instead of normal stormy clouds, we saw what appeared to be another ocean, upside-down and glaring at us, with a myriad of unknown sea creatures swimming its ocean depths... or was it heights?

While we stared dumbfounded into the Mirrored Sea, a handful of fish crested the surface of the other ocean and began falling toward us, crashing down on our deck. The creatures of the other world seemed to notice us, and a couple of serpentine figures swam towards the waterspout with full haste, passing through it harmlessly into our ocean, then approaching our boat. Another figure that appeared as a wolf made of water and ice leapt from the surface of the Mirrored Sea and charged through the air, half falling and half flying toward us, the rain freezing into driving snow around it.

"To arms!" cried the Captain. Battle was about to start.

>Roll for Initiative.

Oops
Welcome, one and all! Take a seat, try the fish sticks. They're not bad, I promise... (Deception roll: 16). Anyways, before we start this shindig, I thought it might be a good idea to introduce the actors.
Crewmates:
Jill Orion - Scourge Aasimar - Glamour Bard 10
RPer: @JBRam2002

First off, we have myself. Jill Orion, a glamorous bard who happened her way into the most adventurous fortune one could ever hope for: a bonafide pirate ship! My poor beloved uncle, Captain... um... Something, was childless, and so he left me the SS Ladyslipper when he passed on through most unfortunate means. Apparently, he was allergic to leaden bullets and salt water. In any case, the ship passed on to me, and I gathered my crew among various friends and allies I had come across. This will be our story.
Koan - Half-Drow - Rogue 1/Undying Light Warlock 2/Satire Bard 3/Wild Magic Sorcerer 4
RPer: @Gordian Nought

A koan is a paradoxical anecdote, highlighting the inadequacy of a logical, normal existence and to provoke adventurous enlightenment out of bondage. The famed jester by the same name, enters our tale, sold into slavery to a corrupt land, for the scruples of pleasure, entertainment, and sex, all to appease the merchant Lords. Decades thereafter, the King eventually diagnosed her hidden parasite of a bastard pregnancy. Commanding a celibate priest, the aged Gilthas, by royal decree, to amputate her fetus from the womb by brutal cesarean, a bolt scar was surgically imparted as the only remnant keepsake of her childbearing. In retribution, the King’s neck likewise met a decapitating blemish in his sleep by the drow clown. Aided and accompanied by the decrepit leper, her foolish exile finally parted ways with the vicar, in death. To the half-elf, disease and demise curiously bestowed and captured a true 'love,’ through a fleeting and banished romance with the sinful priest. After exacting her fruitless revenge upon the guilds of Dale, she now profits upon the ballads of capitalized and comedic endangerment of those who seek to destroy both life and laugh.

Noriam - Fallen Aasimar - Hexblade Warlock 10
RPer: @The Grey Dust

The charming devil with a smile to match my own. There's something about Noriam that unsettles and yet eases, a fatal allure that extends a pale hand of friendship but chokes the life out of you with the other. His silver-tongue could certainly make you believe whatever he tells you, amongst other things. The most unsettling however is how his magics move the shadows around him. Light and dark play at his command over the shadows, stealing them for his own weapons and armor. Spooky right? He's also weird that he seems to enjoy pain, despite otherwise pretty much a downer all the time. Maybe its his shadow powers? Maybe it's the nature of a man searching for purpose? A soul repenting and seeking redemption?RPer: @Zverda

Raised and trained primarily by Dyn'yer'zhead when she was a child found on the streets, she gained so many mannerisms of the Beholder that she is nearly a clone with a fin. Rather manipulative and deceptive, she has a habit of watching people like a hawk as she does not trust easily and those she does trust are few in number. More often than not she had a hard time keeping her mouth shut and not calling people out on their stupidity or any antics done in her presence that are well beneath her.
Alexis Brunwood - Human - Adventurer 10
RPer: @Guardian Angel Haruki

Alexis is a human who somehow manages to be an adventurer despite not having any specialties. No, she's not a bard like myself, she's just a very skilled person who's got quite the talent for getting herself in and out of trouble. Apparently her adventure started when she faced off against a tyrant lord, who was more interested in filling his pockets with as much gold as he can than taking care of the citizens of his town. She faced him in a duel, and won. Alexis showed him mercy, only for her to be teleported far from her home. Now she's traveling back there, desperate to get back to her family and friends. I can't blame her. If she had been teleported away from home, then who knows what could be happening back there? Curious... Alexis is a good person, there's no doubt about that. But...something about her strikes an odd and unnerving chord. I can't quite put my finger on what it is though... Oh well! I think she'll make a fine addition to the crew!
Dyn'yer'zhead - Beholder - Bladesinger Wizard 10
RPer: @Hekazu

And then there was Dyn'yer'zhead! You won't believe me when I say this, but he was a bona-fide Beholder, as obsessed with being the best there ever was as any of his kin! As crazy as one could expect too, fought with a sword he did, Bladesinging like the best of Elves. Not to mention his devotion towards all the ray and beam spells, but that should come as no surprise to anyone, given what Beholders are known of in the practical sense. Now you all know how Beholders are different physically and his deal happened to be a generous amount of tentacles hanging from the bottom of his head sphere... oooohhh he was good with those... cough, anyways, that should be them all!
”Come on, come on!” Katia urged her allies. ”He’s gotta be weak by now!” Throwing caution to the wind, Katia began to climb the side of the monster’s leg, bringing her quarterstaff swinging upwards with both arms directly between its legs, hoping to strike its weak spot, should it have any. Digging her claws into its side, she pushed off with as vicious a swing as she could. The first claw felt like she got some purchase, but she misjudged her momentum with the second as her attack swiped the air. Twisting around as she fell, she stuck a three-point landing next to Thea and grinned up at her paladin friend. ”Miss me yet?” she asked with a wink.

@The Harbinger of Ferocity - DM
@WindsOfFate Personally, I'd rather not hold grudges against anyone in the group, but I will leave that up to you to decide :P Brandon isn't the type to hold grudges though...

As for a relationship, I might not excel at writing M/M relationships, and I won't be doing anything that the forum wouldn't allow, but other than that, I'm fine with whatever naturally develops :) It's more challenging for me to write things that I'm not used to, so bear with me. As for comfort, you have to get up really early in the morning to make me uncomfortable.
@WindsOfFate lol. I still haven't decided if Brandon is straight yet or not. We'll see where the summer takes us :P
Also, when you say top of your class, were you the valedictorian? Or do you mean top X%? Cause Brandon is fairly sore at whomever stole his #1 spot.
