Bio

Hey all, JB here.

I'm a DM for a large number of games here on RPG, as well as a player in several others. Many of the games I run are overly complex, or they involve Dungeons and Dragons (which is also overly complex!).

I work 40+ hours a week, and am the proud father of two tiny terrors named Chibi and Chibette and married to my beautiful Wifey. As such, I am quite busy more often than not. I typically write 2-5 paragraphs per reply and try to maintain an excellent level of grammar. If you noticed me glancing at your profile, I probably was looking to see if you would be a good match for my RPing style. Even if I didn't send a PM to you, feel free to send one back!

I enjoy 1x1 RPs and small groups. I'm fond of medieval, steampunk, and futuristic settings, and I'll jump into romance, adventure, and slice of life RPs fairly quickly, although supernatural (vampires, werewolves, etc) RPs get old for me pretty quickly. If you're looking for an RP partner and I've glanced at your profile, then I'm most likely willing to give it a shot, but decided against PMing you because I'm actually kinda shy. But I'm always looking for a new friend!

Please feel free to say hi at any time!

Bledig turned towards the tabaxi, listening to the Primordial tongue offered. "I accept thy apology, Daughter of Felix," he responded in Common, "and thy generous offer. My wounds are not substantial. Our next task is to bring thee through the gate safely, unless thou wishest to continue dealing thyselves harm."

I tell no lie when I say I was overly curious what 'generous offer' Nemmy had made on our behalf, but the prospect of pur ship passing through the gate unscathed was a more pressing matter. The fury of the waterspout still raged on, and I had no doubt at this point that our entering of the aquatic tornado would lead us all to meet Reemes' mistress before our time. With half of the current crew making their way below decks and Shivs following, I worried about what options we had.

"We may not need to take the ship in fully," Jill offered. "I saw you fly down, Bledig. A bit of effort, and some of us could get up there with flight of our own. Or we can try to protect the ship. Anyone have any ideas?"

The merchant glared back at Ulor's haggling. "You lot destroy my wares, cover the area with ice, scare off customers, and spill blood in the marketplace, and to top it off, you think you can scare me off too? Away with you. I wouldn't sell to you if you paid double!"

"Come, now, Hankins," the guard spoke up as she approached the merchant. "I'll clean the area so it looks good as new. Plus, the ice is already melting away. Customers will return in no time." She continued to soothe the merchant's woes as the group, deciding now was an opportune time to slip away, began to follow Yvah to the promised tavern.

The kurjian led the party out of the slums to a nearby part of town. This area certainly was not as well-to-do as where the group had spent the previous evening, but it felt safer, as if one was less likely to run into raging goliaths here. A few odd looks were tossed towards those who carried bodies, and several people muttered quietly or crossed the street to avoid them. Shortly, Yvah turned towards a doorway with an etching of a fairly ugly small dragon-shaped figure that was easily recognized as a kobold. The words "The Homely Kobold" were carved underneath in Common, Dwarvish, Infernal, and a handful of other languages. There was also some writing in Elvish, but it was scratched out, likely with some anger if the jaggedness of the cuts were any indication.

The door opened upon a room that appeared to be part tavern, part meeting place. There were folk of nearly every unusual race from goliath to tiefling to goblin to half-orc. All of them became silent as the door opened, turning to see the newcomers. As Yvah became visible, some of the patrons returned to their discussion in whispered tones while the others looked on with interest.

A tiefling stepped forward, a wide smile on his face. "Aaah, Yvah. Welcome back! Do you mind introducin' us to the new faces? You've certainly found some very shiny new friends."

Hey guys, we could use a post from you. This RP is kinda getting stagnant, and we'd like to move it along. If you are no longer interested in RPing, please let us know so we don't just wait around.
@The Harbinger of Ferocity@Circ@Rilla - I have revised the wording on Healing and Resurrection. The wording previously used was suggested to me, but I feel the revised wording more accurately depicts what I had in mind. Circ had mentioned that these two abilities' power levels might be too weak compared to their descriptions.

I still have questions regarding the Barrier usage. Please see the post above.
@JBRam2002, you have a fairly low values applied to what are arguably powerful abilities: resurrection (one of the seven wonders only a grand witch could perform in Coven), healing even terrible wounds, and projecting a magic barrier that stops bullets (when Neo became a god in the matrix).

Consider rewording resurrection to something like resuscitation and restrict it to people who have recently died/aren't brain dead.

Consider bumping Healing to a 4 or restrict it to minor wounds.

Consider bumping Barrier to a 4 or lower it to a 3 and say there is a chance bullets can pass through.

Thanks!

I have already restricted Resurrection to the recently deceased in my wording (within past several hours). Healing is also intended to be minor (as noted in the wording - she is better at repairing tech than living tissue). My intent on Healing is for serious wounds to take a significant amount of time and energy, whereas minor wounds can be dealt with swiftly.

As for the Barrier, I can increase its strength, but it is extremely easy for enemies to flank or avoid it, as the barrier is stationary and not directly on an ally. It blocks from a single direction and does not stop advancing troops or magic that originates inside the barrier. The barrier is also fairly small (only 10 ft tall), allowing for elevation to render it completely moot. I feel like a lvl 3 or 4 barrier would be significantly more powerful, perhaps even an AoE bubble centered on my allies like I originally requested but was told to change.

I can make the increases noted, but I was told to restrict to a single lvl 4 ability. I'd gladly increase the strength of my character... I just want to make sure that is something that's allowed.
Your Electromancy is not a 2 ability, I would categorize it as 3-4, likely leaning towards the latter.

Updated it to 4, per your suggestion.
As the group rested, Katia pondered the orb she held. Magic was not her strong suit, but this orb gave her the feeling of the rush of wind and the majesty of a soaring avian far above the ground. She felt some sort of energy from this orb, almost akin to the energy of ki that flowed through all living things. Did this thing have a soul? Was it a soul? Katia could not tell, but her intuition told her that the gem might be able to bring one of these Crows back to life if paired with a suitably powerful spell. She briefly wondered if something similar would happen to her should her combat tactics fail her.

The thought was not a pleasant one.

When the group continued its movements, Katia pulled a thin wooden stick from her pouch. A quick glance over the stick would reveal its patterned holes along the top and the fact it was hollow. A few moments later, and its purpose was revealed to all nearby. As they walked, Katia blew into one end, creating a steady tone. Her fingers switched positions, and a new tone sounded. She was certainly no bard, and her music lacked the empathy and soul of Cesar’s, but she knew a handful of marching tunes and lullabies, as well as a few songs she had written herself. This particular tune was a soulful melody that dipped into a minor key, evoking the plight of the Really Big Crows they had just encountered. It may well have been Katia’s best musical work ever, surprising even herself. Perhaps the gem she had stowed in her pack had inspired her.

The song continued for much of the time that they walked, a soft background tune that should not interrupt any other conversation, but still hopefully evoked some imagination and enjoyment from her companions. It ceased abruptly as they crested a hill and looked down over what appeared to be a Hall. At Koan’s words, Katia lowered herself close to the ground, waiting for her ally’s command to stay or pounce. The hawk began its survey, and Katia peered into the distance to see what she could in tandem. The town appeared mostly empty from this distance, but the Hall’s lights were ignited. Theodore’s assessment was that the Hall lacked danger, but Katia was less sure.

”We have seen nary a soul so far, Teddy,” she replied. ”Perhaps they have all holed up in here, or perhaps there are none. I have been to many towns like this one where as soon as you step through the gates, they find some reason to lock you up. If we could see what manner of person existed here... but no. We must approach, and we lack the cover to do so stealthily.” Thea turned towards their wizard, requesting his advice, and although her question was not directed towards the tabaxi, Katia offered her own as well. ”I think we should march in proudly, our weapons sheathed but ready. Perhaps they will offer respite or a place to purchase supplies. If the Hall is empty, it may serve as shelter for an evening.”

it wouldn't actually take that long to convert from html to bbcode, so long as mahz doesn't expect us to code websites and the like.

i predict a lot of it will be the same tags we've used for years (bold, italic, etc.), just their html variants. and the html variants aren't that different. it'd be just like if mahz added new tags to the bbcode editor. and, in a worst case scenario where learning this new language is impossible, there's always the buttons at the top to add the tags in for you.

Understood. I know that <b> </b> converts to bold, etc. I'm more concerned about the more difficult things, like tables. I use tables a lot and have no idea how those work in html (could probably do some research to see, I assume it's somewhat similar to BBCode). Having posts that exist as BBCode format remain defaulted to BBCode would allow people who edit those posts to change it to HTML at their option, or allow them to continue to use the same format that the post was originally created in, allowing for the case of (likely rare) scenarios like mine to not be quite the hassle.
