No offense intended. But there's a sweet spot on the sliding scale of realism, and most of the interest checks I usually see skew too far to the realism end for me.

Can't describe how quickly I go from excited to sad when a mecha premise turns out to be realism wankery.

The guild doesn't. Jamie does.

if anything, that makes it more sketchy tbh
Argus Leandros

Argus didn't look up as Joakim scolded him, not really having anything to say in his defense, but at the mention of Zeref, he suddenly looked up at the man with a look of recognition and shock, but he let the man finish speaking before he answered the man's question. "That's a name I haven't heard in a while. It was all the guards talked about at times, though I always thought he was just some dark god that they worshiped or something. To think that a person liked that actually existed . . . that's not a comforting thought. As for getting the book out of me . . . I'd appreciated it, but I don't want any of you to risk you life on this, and this isn't me trying to shun away help. Dark and powerful curses are entwined within it's covers, protecting it from those who'd do it harm and promising death or insanity in return for their efforts. The last time I had someone try to help me remove this curse, I saw them liquefy right before my eyes. . . that was not a pleasant day and it still haunts my dreams at times. So, while I appreciate the offer, well and truly, I'm almost certain that I'm stuck with this burden for the rest of my life."

Argus' eyes began to turn downward again, the depression from before once again rising to overtake him, only for Isla's outburst and subsequent assault to snap him out of it. He raised his hand up to his face, hissing slightly at the touch, before letting out a small chuckle at her request. "Would if I could, but two problems with that. First, this is more of a robe, and Second, I'm not wearing anything underneath it, and while I don't really mind being naked, I really doubt you guys would be comfortable with that." Argus chuckled a little before a more somber expression came over his face. "And thanks for smacking some sense into me, guess I kinda needed that."

Turning back to Joakim, he gave the man a low bow, before rising and hiding his hand out.

"I'll try my best not to cause trouble till the higher ups come to me with an appropriate punishment. Also, since I don't think we've been properly introduced, My name is Argus Leandros and I'm sorry that our first meeting had to be under such trying circumstances."

Nidhogg

"Job hunting, huh, wouldn't have figured that with the games going on." Nidhogg said as he managed to find the effort to stand, dusting himself off before turning his attention back t the armored girl "Though I guess it makes sense, you don't seem like one to engage in such things. How very droll, but to each their own I suppose. If you wish, I can show you the way to the board, as I've nothing better to do and nowhere in particular to be."

Cyare Staunton: In the City

"That would not be unwelcome." The Tactical Mage said, after a moment's pause. She didn't have any particular opinion of the man offering the aid, but she couldn't say it wouldn't be helpful, so she might as well accept. "Feel free to lead the way. I'm Cyare, this is Rei. You might be?"
"The fuck do these goddamn KAD engineers think they're-"

CLANG.

The offending piece of metal, officially referred to as a "power conservation device", was designed to cut down on the use of power when the magic reactor hit a designated low power state. It was also installed by some idiotic white collar elite who didn't know that any mechanic worth their salt would have ripped it out, not installed it behind the pilot's back to fit arbitrary-

Deep breaths. Didn't matter, it was already over there, shattered on the hangar floor. Where it belonged.

The small-town mechanic herself had barely pulled her head out of the repair hatch when she threw it away, and she was elbow deep in the Titan's mechanisms again. Mostly making sure the inspecting engineer hadn't changed anything else when she wasn't looking. She hated when people messed with her specs. She had everything tuned exactly her way for her own maximum performance, whether it was 'proper' or not.

...

You know, the part didn't hit anyone, but it might've been close. Maybe don't throw things in the big government hangar.
Benjamin Lloyd: Brewing Storm

"Fuck." The curse slipped out while BASL's leader stared at where the stairs ended. He could see the edge of the upper third in the wall; with how such things were engineered, he could've gotten a grip and yanked. Locking mechanism would've broken, and the rest should have slid right out. Easy peasy. Not even much Aura needed. Buuuut, busting that lock wouldn't be quiet. And that noise would attract any Grimm that didn't know they were there already. He needed to be quieter than the average Negasi. More like the average Naga. So no forcing it out. Something subtler. Could boost the team up one by one, but that'd make whoever held up the current climber vulnerable on this end. And whoever pulled up the last person vulnerable at the ends. Double vulnerability. No good.

Needed to be quicker. Something with no climbing.

...

"A'right, Bastille, human catapult time. Lauren or Amy, you're up first. Sangue next. Whichever of you's left last. Then Amy's gonna use Unchained Fury to pull me up." Ben stretched almost casually, rolling the shoulder of his throwing arm and cheekily miming a catapult motion. "Step up, step up, and be the first to fly. Unless anyone's got a better plan."

Anyone who hated being in school could tell you that the quickest way out of an assembly was to stand in the back row, closest to the doors. Last in, first out. Pretty basic principle. In fact, if you were really clever, you could stick some paper in the door and slip out silently partway through the assembly. Which, normally, Evangeline would've done. Buuuuut given that this was the first assembly at the Mecha Carta Institute, given by the Division Commander himself, she figured she should give it her full attention. Not that what he said mattered much to her, pretty standard Commander stuff. Stuff they all already knew, too. But best to get off on the right foot, right? Pretend she fit in with the rest here? All that good stuff?

Yeah. Yeah that was best.

No reason to stick around when Erikal was done, though, right?

Which is exactly why she was back in her work clothes and back in the hangar less than five minutes after the Commander stopped talking. The Titan still needed fine tuning, and her pilot was halfway into the repair hatch on its back tinkering with the inner servos by the time anyone else made it into the hangar. She'd come a long way since her scrapyard Frankenstein days, but inside, she was still pretty close to the original. Some refinement here and there, but she was still there. The machine she'd trusted her life to Day One.

Sentiment?

"Pretty much." Evan answered the 'question', glancing briefly at the amorphous fog outside the repair hatch. She still wasn't sure what it said was really words or she just heard them like it, but she knew what it meant. "'Sides, you got her working, remember?"

That sounded a lot like a shrug. So she shrugged herself, and turned back to the Titan's power relays. Couldn't be careful enough with those. Be pretty shitty if a core overloaded day one because she didn't pay attention.
@OnaraxSo, you going to post soon, or should I have Nidhogg just respond to Cyare?

He's on vacation, internet access is a little spotty. I haven't seen him for a couple of days.
Oh I couldn't even possibly begin to claim Star Trek is better than Stargate. I barely know Stargate, aside from the movie that spawned the franchise and a few episodes of Atlantis.

i just start cackling whenever people start calling trek bad
@Silvan Haven

Come on, Universe wasn't that bad. I'd still watch that over Trek any day. Would have liked Atlantis movie though.

i'm sorry man

i can't hear you over, to quote my mecha mentor, all that shit taste
Cyare Staunton: Within the City

"Of course I'm checking the center of the city. In case you hadn't noticed, that's where we're headed. There were no public boards near the Guild buildings, which is a logical first place to check for Magician jobs." The Tactical Mage replied, only patience tempering the mild irritation that occurred most of the times that her companion opened his mouth. Honestly, he probably would get himself killed without her just by pissing off the wrong Mage. Still she wasn't going to waste any more breath on the obvious. They'd just stepped into Town Square anyway, and her Tactical Magic's passive effects kicked in to let her process what she saw quicker. Plenty of people milling about. Two girls on a bench, counting out their money. That might have indicated a job board near them, but she didn't see it. Ah, there it was. A few moments into her scanning she spotted a notice board across the square.

She didn't bother to inform Rei, instead nodded her head in its direction and took a ste-

And stopped when the person crossing in front of her fell. Not as though he tripped on a cobblestone, it was bis own two feet, but he wasn't drunk, either. There were certain outward signs associated with inebriation sufficient to impede one's balance and this man wasn't displaying any of them. Logically, he was just clumsy. Regardless, he seemed intent on a conversation. She briefly contemplated just stepping over him. A little too rude, she supposed.

"I'm afraid I can't help you." The Pawn said simply, with a faint shrug of her shoulders. "Aside from the Games, I do not know what's going on in this town. We're just on our way to the job board."
