Scathe consists of two parts; a pair of gloves, and one of boots. Like the rest of her clothing, both are masterfully crafted and maintained. Fine cloth and leather belie their destructive potential; thin, unobtrusive plates of steel are tucked between the layers on the back of her hands and on her knuckles, as well as in the toe and heel of her boots. This alone makes getting hit with them hurt more than you’d expect (and protects Saeva’s hands and feet), but the incredible concentrations of Fire Dust used directly in their creation are their real potency. Using Dust in such a raw form is archaic and dangerous, and the weapon used to be as much a danger to her as anyone else, but their versatility is a worthy tradeoff. Saeva can set off small-scale explosions on impact, either to harm her target or generate propulsion, or ignite it to wreathe her extremities in flame. With a little effort she can hurl these flames as well, as her only real ranged option.
Vígrid is much more rarely seen. It takes the form of a bastard sword with the appearance of wrought iron, sheathed on her back. Despite this it can withstand Scathe’s Dust, as well as her Semblance, without ill effects. It can act as a focuser for these forces, channeling white hot flames at its peak and causing even the hilt to glow redhot. Fire can be cast from it, as with her gloves.
Though not strictly a weapon, the underlying components of her combat attire are as fire-resistant as possible out of necessity.
Semblance:
Nekketsu is one of the purest possible reflections of Saeva’s inner self. The Atlesian is
literally hotblooded. Her internal temperature is always significantly higher than it would be for a normal person. Heat, even at extremes, holds no danger for her. This is a significant factor in her ability to use Scathe without harm. Exposure to extreme heats will actually make her stronger, but this is more of a passive effect than its primary purpose. If Saeva’s Aura is lowered to the point that anyone, herself or an opponent, manages to draw blood it will literally ignite upon leaving her body. The effect is akin to napalm, and it will burn at extreme temperatures without going out until her Semblance is no longer active. Though useful offensively, the primary effect is actually defensive; the more she bleeds, the more heat will be generated, the more energy she can draw from it to keep herself in the fight. For obvious reasons this is an emergency effect; while the heat generated will make her stronger the more she loses and permit her to keep fighting long after she should have been exhausted, the closer it will also bring her to a critical medical state when she
does stop. If she were to persist in this state for too long she would likely collapse.

Personality: Loud, energetic, crass, and
violent. Saeva revels in a good fight, the tougher the better, and summarily rejects arbitrary claims of authority. This doesn’t always endear her to people, let alone people in authority. She nicknames
everyone, names she’ll usually use more often than their real one. Staying still for very long is not her forte, and left to her own devices she’ll try and find
something to do to burn off some energy. Initial impressions have ranged from ‘undisciplined’ or ‘obstinate’ all the way to ‘psychotic’. But books can’t be judged by their covers, and the Atlesian has depths that are hidden very, very well. Despite her rebellious streak Saeva respects, in her own way, people that prove that they have
earned their authority. More than that, her loyalty to friends is absolute. Even if she’s almost certainly tested their mettle somewhere along the lines.
Her commitment to her duties is just as absolute, even if she might enjoy killing Grimm juuuust a little. And whether people realize it or not, Saeva spends most of her time in a fight holding back to avoid causing any collateral damage with her weapons. School mellowed her out, if only a bit, and taught her the virtue of discipline. It’s just
her sort of discipline. It may not have been apparent from the outside, but she was an effective leader in her own way; she inspired as much loyalty in her teammates as they in her.
Background: Saretas have lived in the old city of Mantle as long as there has
been a Mantle, and Saeva is no exception. She was not born to a long lineage of Hunters and Huntresses, but rather to one of tailors. Her grandfather fought through the Great War to come home to their shop, and eventually to have his son. Both her father and grandfather watched Atlas rise and Mantle fall and witnessed the capital’s move to Atlas, sentencing Mantle to its decline. Her father was named in defiance of the color rule, a last defiance to Mantle’s loss in the war, but he found compromise in naming his daughter; he derived a color from their surname, a translation of an old myth, in the hopes that she would be able to find a balance. Honor the past that their family represented, but find individuality for herself. Growing up in Mantle was not easy. The Saretas were wealthy by the city’s standards, but money did little to create more food. Or stop heating infrastructure from growing too worn. Or quell the unrest the increasing Faunus population still felt.
In Mantle the same extremes that helped ward off Grimm threatened to freeze its people. And starve them, with the costs of importing supplies from the Kingdom’s new capital. Even a relatively wealthy family knew cold nights and empty stomachs. Saeva’s father never complained. Like his father before him he served in Mantle’s defenses, and taught his daughter how to protect herself. Not that it took long for her to figure it out on her own. Schoolyard brawls had much more on the line when a few people had money for food and the majority did not.
It took even less time for her to start helping out at the shop. Expensive orders from Atlas were much of what kept the shop afloat, especially when winters came and they needed to crank out blankets and coats at cost to help keep their neighbors warm. The orders always came by mail, as no upper class Atlesian would ever visit a little shop in Mantle in person no matter its reputation. When she was old enough to understand Saeva asked why he never saved up enough to move to Atlas and reopen the shop there. It took longer to understand his answer; “We’ve always been here. If everyone tries to leave, who’ll make this place better?”
Still, Mantle wasn’t enough. As a teenager she still had never gotten to see the world past her city, and schoolyard brawls had turned into back alley fights. Over insults, over perceived slights, even just for fun. Tensions were high in Mantle, and it didn’t take much for fights to break out among its more delinquent citizens. It wasn’t until she was fifteen that she found something to focus her love of a good fight and her desire to do some good, when a Huntress passing through broke up a fight without breaking a sweat.
It was worth the lecture and time grounded.
After that she was determined to become a Huntress, whatever it took. Not in Atlas, she refused to rub elbows with those she saw as elitist, but Vale… She passed the entrance exam with flying colors, and to her incredulity, found herself in charge of a team. A quartet of misfits, brawlers, and ne’er-do-wells. Somehow, somewhere along the lines, she learned enough to be a good leader. And through a whole lot of sweat, blood, and tears (the latter two usually caused by one another) they banded together. It has been a little while since they graduated, and they’re still close even if not formally a team anymore.

Strengths: Saeva is, first of all, a shockingly gifted couturier. Her father prefers the term “tailor”, but freely admits that the difference is largely a matter of semantics. Many of the items in her wardrobe are handmade, and most of the gifts she gives out at holidays are of the same sort. She’s a decent cook, as well, even though she wouldn’t admit it if her life depended on it. A byproduct of needing to help maintain the home and shop.
In terms of combat she isn’t much of a ranged fighter. Though she can hurl flames a decent distance, most of her tactics involve getting in close as quickly as possible. She is a
very strong hand-to-hand combatant, with or without her weapons. ‘Kickboxing’ is probably how she would describe the core of her style, but she’s acquired techniques from as many martial arts as she can over the years. An above average swordswoman, too, though her teammate (not that she would admit it even if her life depended on it) surpasses her in that regard. As SEST’s leader she gained a good grasp on tactics, too, even if her perspective tends to be
highly unconventional.
Weaknesses: Saeva has minimal capabilities in ranged combat, and her unconventional fighting style occasionally borders on reckless disregard for her own safety. Indeed, she is more than willing to trade taking a hit for gaining ground if she thinks it’ll work in her favor. This makes her resolute and determined, but also more likely to earn a death by a thousand cuts even if she avoids any major blows. Her own weapons can pose a risk as well; while Nekketsu easily protects her from the flames her weapons create, she is
not protected against explosive forces they may generate. The plates that line Scathe protect her fists just fine, but she
must maintain a disciplined control over their use to avoid causing herself harm. Raw Dust the way she uses it is very volatile if not used properly.
Additionally, her Semblance is a double-edged sword and a sharp one at that. While it will enhance her strength and offensive abilities, it can only be activated in full if she is already being pushed to the brink. It will keep her going well past that point, and stronger and stronger as time goes on, it runs the risk of putting her in a hospital bed for injury and blood loss. Or worse.
