Current I'm going to have to take a break for awhile. One of my dogs just passed; we went to bed together like we always do and when I woke up she was gone. I feel awful right now.

Had a fun birthday. Had some alligator tail for dinner, overall was pretty good for a place I hadn't been to before. Will start getting back into the groove of things soon.

Hi. If you've wound up here, you're probably wondering who I am.

You can call me Kuro, although some of you might better recognize me by one of the several other names that I have used in the past throughout the 11-ish years that I have spent on this forum. I'm a middle-twenties retail manager that is still trying to relive the glory days of their roleplay career while balancing a full-time job with an unsatiable need for overtime.

I tend to be open to most ideas when it comes to roleplay itself, be it whatever genre, group size, system, etc. That being said, I often gravitate to anything that falls in the following categories: anime, fantasy, slice of life, superhero or survival horror. If you believe that you have an idea that I might be interested in, feel free to shoot me a link; I'll get back to you as soon as I possibly can. Sometimes I forget to check my messages, so don't feel bad about pestering me again if I missed it.

I also have a discord server laying around. If we're cool, then I might be willing to a toss an invite your way.

A violin wasn't on the top of Jess' list of weapons to survive the zombie apocalypse with. But if it worked, it worked. Granted, the instrument probably wouldn't last long, Jess believed. It would probably shatter into a million wood splinters the second someone tried to smash it into a zombie's head. Yet if it kept any of them alive, well, Jess was thankful to have it on hand.

"Well, it's something." Jess replied to Shin-ae. "And something is always better than nothing."

Admittedly, Jess was nervous at the thought of having to defend herself against her now-undead peers. They had all watched their classmates and teachers be violently ripped apart moments ago. This wasn't the movies, this was an actual matter of life and death that they were in. One slip-up and it was game over; night night for Jess or anyone else. She knew that they were going to have to arm themselves and fight for their lives, but it didn't change the fact that Jess was still scared shitless at the idea.

She didn't want to die, being ripped apart from limb to limb until there was nothing left. The thought horrified Jess, and she could only figure that the rest of their group had felt the same.

As she continued her search through the desk drawers, Jess had noticed a group of papers stapled together. Divorce papers, she could tell from a glance. Well, shit, Mr. Potter was getting divorced? Grimacing, Jess decided to hide the papers in the desk out of respect for their teacher. She hadn't known if he was even still alive or wandering the halls as a zombie, but Jess nonetheless had a gut feeling that this had been information she shouldn't share with the rest of them.

It was odd. Here they were in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, worried that they were going to be torn apart by said zombies, yet Jess still felt beholden to privacy. Thankfully, before Jess could let herself linger on the news she had accidentally discovered any longer, someone spoke up about food and water. Right, that was also something they were going to need.

"I did find these." Jess announced, placing the two chocolate energy bars she had found on top of Mr Potter's desk. "Unless anyone else finds anything, we have to make them last as long as we can."

Previously: And Now For My Next Trick...

Natsumi had never been pepper sprayed before.

As she faded back into existence, there had only been one word Natsumi could think of: fire. Christ, it stung. She felt as if her whole body had been lit aflame by the guard's pepper spray. Her chest ached from capsaicin-triggered coughing, all the while her cheeks grew brightly red like a tomato. She tried to open her now watery eyes, yet the painful irritation that now seeped into her eyes made it difficult to focus on anything before her.

Why her? She didn't understand. For all intents and purposes, Natsumi was practically an angel or a saint. She had never tried to harm anyone, nor was she ever the type to take advantage of people. It simply wasn't in Natsumi's nature to do such things. All Natsumi wanted to do was make the world a better place; for everyone to get along no matter were they human or metahuman. She had believed AEGIS would help her in that, and yet it had been an AEGIS employee who had struck her down.

She attempted to stand up from the court floor, yet the burning sensation she had been feeling proved too much of a distraction for Natsumi. There had been no grace in her stumbling, and Natsumi appeared more akin to a flailing fish out of water flopping about. She felt helpless and embarrassed; like a prop for the speech the warden was now giving to the crowd.

"You're okay."

A voice spoke to her, attempting to offer some kind of reassurance. Lina, Natsumi believed.

"...Maybe we can wash it out. Hold on to me."

Grabbing ahold of Lina, Natsumi forced herself up to her feet. A wheezed response followed. "...thank you."

Blinking rapidly in an attempt to flush out her eyes, Natsumi allowed Lina take the lead, and followed in the girl's footsteps over towards the one of the guards. Admittedly, she was slightly hesitant to ask a guard for help, given the last few minutes, yet there wasn't much of a choice. After all, Natsumi had no idea how to deal with pepper spray, and Lina likely neither did as well.

Before either of them got far, however, they were stopped by another; the girl from the front of the bus. She handed Lina a cloth of sorts, and pointed to her forehead. Had Lina been hit, too? Natsumi hoped not. Although Natsumi had taken the brunt of the spray, they were nonetheless still in close proximity.

Whatever it had been, though, Natsumi would have to figure out later. It was still difficult to see, and the warden seemed more interested in leading his tour than anything else. Forced along by the guards, she fell into line and followed the rest of the group down a hallway, albeit with the occasional cough, wheeze or sniffle to be heard.

Apparently, there were others like them already at the complex, she'd come to find out as they were led into a commons-like room that held ping pong, video games, and other such recreation activities. Natsumi tried her best to follow along with what the 'The Kid' had to say, but for what seemed to be the first time in likely forever, her people energy had taken a dip. She just wanted to sit down at this point; maybe find a way to flush out her eyes on top of it.

The roof. What a novel idea, Jess sarcastically thought. Not like they had windows to see out of. She wasn't particularly enthused at the thought of rappelling down the school while being chased by hungry cannibals, either. At least on the bright side it would be the fall that killed her if she slipped up in the process.

"The administration offices are probably surrounded by now." Jess replied, standing up from the ground. "It'd be the first place I would think to go to get out, at least. Some of our classmates likely had the same idea."

Looking around the room, Jess wandered over to Mr. Potter's desk, and began to dig through the drawers for anything useful that might help them in not being devoured by their former peers. Unfortunately, the drawers were chock-full of stuff, so it would take a minute for her to search through.

Pencils. Erasers. Tape. Oh, hey, this week's quiz answers. Too bad they wouldn't serve a useful purpose anymore, unless you could dispatch a zombie with a papercut.

"My vote is maintenance. It's secluded; out of the way." Jessica announced, placing various items aside so she could dig further through the desk. "Also, any of you have scissors, or.. I don't know, an umbrella laying around over there? Not really interested in becoming zombie chow if we're heading out."

She hadn't known how her classmates would react to the thought of having to defend themselves from the undead, but it was a question that needed to be asked regardless.

Takara smiled once more as she assisted Haruhi, helping her climb aboard Masaru. The broken hoe had made it a slightly unusual ascent, but it wasn't in the way for long before both girls were ready to ride.

"The smith?" She repeated. "Sure, we can swing by there."

Taking the reins in both hands, Takara gave Masaru a squeeze with her legs to indicate forward. While she would've loved to break straight into a fast gallop, for Haruhi's sake Takara made certain to keep to a medium pace; not too fast, yet not entirely slow either. Two passengers was child's play to Takara and her horse, but the broken hoe shaft made things a little more difficult to reach such speeds. Certainly neither of them wanted to accidentally impale themselves, Takara believed.

"Eeeeeehhh," Takara replied. She always did enjoy the festival, but there was still some hesitance in her voice as she held onto the sound for perhaps too long. "Well, it is a cause for celebration. Food... games... music..."

Letting the thought linger, it would be a few seconds before Takara spoke again.

"My chichi is the same." She continued. "Every festival, he drags me over to our neighbor. You know, old Kudara-san, the tailor? I've never asked him why, but he always insists that I have her help me dress for the festival."

She sighed, thankful that her father hadn't had eyes everywhere in the valley.

"It always feels uncomfortable, right? Having to get dressed up all fancy in a kimono?"

Coming to a slow canter, Takara brought her horse around and towards the direction Haruhi was heading. With a smile on her face, she had Masaru follow along beside the girl so the two of them could converse.

"Luckily for you, it isn't me asking. My chichi sent me to put in our request for a resupply after the festival. Lots of hungry folks out there not named me around this time, you know."

Indeed, the week leading up to the Dance of the Serpent had always been rough on the Crane's Roost. Many village folk would flock there to celebrate through day and night, and in turn were often hungry for a home-cooked meal from the Hayashis. Although their hungry appetites weren't an unusual sight at the Crane's Roost, a week's worth of constant celebration was enough to put a sizeable dent in the inn's resources. There was usually enough supply to stay open by the end of festivities, but regardless it was still a good idea to ensure they weren't going to run completely dry by putting in their next restock order ahead of time.

"It'd be our usual order." Takara continued. Letting go of the reins temporarily, she began to count off vegetable names with her hands. "Hakusai, daikon, satoimo..."

After she had named a few examples, Takara turned her attention back to the road ahead of them. The village wasn't that far off from where they were currently, but horseback would certainly be faster than by foot regardless.

"Want a ride into town?" She asked, grabbing Masaru's reins in one hand. The other was outstretched towards Haruhi, ready to help lift the girl onto the horse if she so desired. "Just make sure you hold on tight to me if you do. We wouldn't want you falling off and bruising your behind, now would we?"

Takara playfully winked at Haruhi, hoping she would accept her offer.
