I just try to keep my maturity low enough that my account age is the only indicator that I should be on this site.

Clearly a man can't sleep without getting woken up by an explosion of spambots.

Have you ever considered putting up a donation box? it wouldn't be much, but I'm sure some guild members would be willing to spare a few bucks here and there.

Mahz has said before that he does not want to take donations. Unless he has changed his views, that won't happen.

@LegendBegins Yeah, it sustains its server costs.

I just wish it sustained its Mahz-labor costs.

Haha, I'll be sure to click on more ads for you.

@Mahz
I see. And my second question (if you are willing to release this information): Does the Guild produce enough revenue to sustain itself?
My bad.

To our knowledge, it is dead, but you aren't sure...Hm...

Yeah, Amazon's entire US-East region was pretty much down: news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10247307

That's where the Guild's servers are hosted. Seems resolved now.

Are there any thoughts on ever moving the site into its own self-maintained server, or is that impossible with your job?

Ah, @SilverRain, I apologize. I did not see your question. In response, yes, the ads are completely influenced by your browsing, as per our discussion. If a child is on the site, he or she will not see adult ads unless the child is particularly scandalous. The ads are not influenced by threads (unless Mahz has some abnormal integration, which I doubt), but may be mistargeted. For example, you go to a website to find out whom a certain celebrity is dating, and get ads for dating websites.

Which means if you're seeing adult website ads, somebody on your computer has explaining to do.

Mmmmhm. Accurate.

Doesn't the guild use targeted ads based on your browser history?

Close enough, I suppose. It is stored in cookies, not your history.
