So maybe stuff like she can turn into a bird or a fish for the purpose of getting flight or swimming under water? Though I’d still like her to at least be able to turn into other humanoid looking people without too many physical deviations, I.e. wings and stuff. Could be handy for infiltration when turning into a fly and buzzing on through won’t cut it.

Yeah I was thinking that while she can’t copy magical traits, she can still utilize physical ones. Turn into a dragon for dragon wings, turn into some big bulky demon for demon strength, turn into a fishman for amphibious properties etc. as for equips I could remove the buckler, tbh I don’t think she’s the type to really rely on a shield either. If anything I’d probably just say she uses her normal daggers for parrying.

I should repeat that she can only turn into humanoid creatures, which while a fairly loose definition, it does mean certain forms are beyond her. Like she can do a humanoid dragon but not a full blown big ass “this is the final boss” dragon, and probably can’t pull off centaurs either. And while she can turn into demons or angels they still have to have a fairly humanoid template. Turning into a demon with four arms, no problem. Trying to turn into a demon who is nothing but arms and a single head, probably impossible.

Magic: Shapeshifting - Ebony is capable of transforming herself into her hybrid form, other animals her size or smaller, and most humanoid people she sees. She can only copy their physical traits, and she’s limited to humanoids who are similar to her hybrid form such as regular humans, other nekomatas, and certain elves, though her own nekomata features are always present such as her ears and tail.
Personality: Like any cat Ebony is mischievous and ultimately selfish. She’s always looking out for herself. That being said she is capable of liking people, and to make herself feel better she sometimes helps others just to stroke her own ego. Very Tsundere like that. Rather apathetic to the greater scheme of things and takes things one day at a time. Makes her very lazy and at times careless for the greater ramifications of her actions. Still she can be pretty chill and isn’t a total bitch, so long as she gets something out of it at the end of the day.
Background: Obviously, “Sir Ebonsteel Bloodfang” isn’t this Nekomata’s real name, but she’s stopped caring about what her real name was a long time ago to the point that she’s long forgotten it. She was just wandering through the city looking for her next meal ticket when she smelled something great from a fancy elf mansion. When she tracked down the scent she found a few giant rats causing a ruckus so she killed them in cold blood. That’s when some orc found her and adopted her for protecting his food. Originally she was going to shape out and explain that she didn’t want to be adopted, but then she tried some of his cooking and figured that it could be worse. At least he was a great chef, so she played the part of the pet cat from time to time, leaving whenever she feels like it to do her own thing.

Sometime later the orc she had bonded with was going to go to some mysterious campground for some reason or another. Ebony was brought along to keep protecting his food, and she didn’t really care enough to refuse. She was actually pretty excited, she’s always wanted to go on an actual adventure for once instead of just hanging around the city beating up drunks and thugs. She’ll still keep her existence a secret from the orc, so for now she’ll just enjoy this ride while she can.

Equipment:
Steel Shortsword - Ebony’s main weapon. A nice sturdy blade that can slice or stab. Typically used to slit throats.

Daggers - Ebony carries multiple daggers as an off-hand weapon and a range weapon. While it has a much shorter reach then a bow, she can still easily kill large, heavily armored people or tough monsters with a well placed knife.

Buckler - The only form of protection she has since she doesn’t wear armor. Ebony doesn’t use the buckler to block attacks but parry them, opening her enemies up for a deadly riposte.

Clothing - Ebony likes wearing dark, trendy clothes, as per her namesake. She accessories with various bits of jewelry too, most of them mundane.

Katalmach Iron Chef - Ebony's orc. She mooches food off of him. She actually doesn't know his name and just calls him the orc or the chef, alternatively the orc chef if she has to be very specific.

Spider Silk Rope - Roughly 100 feet of very thin yet very sturdy rope. Spider Silk is highly resistant against blades and slashing, and has to be burnt in order to separate strands. Ebony thus carries one 50 feet coil of rope, and then five 10 feet coils. Can double as a garrote too if she needs it to.

Ring of Woodland Stride - The only real magical item Ebony has. This silver ring can cast a spell once per day that creates a veil of shadows and silence radiating from Ebony, masking her and anyone she chooses near her from detection. For one hour Ebony and her friends can't be tracked except by magical means and leaves behind no tracks or other traces of their passage. It doesn’t make them invisible, but if they’re trying to be stealthy, it’ll be much harder for others to use their natural senses to find them.

Name: Katalmach Iron Chef

Magic: Alchemy - The magic that allows Katalmach to create various potions, poisons, and other magical consumables. In other woods, something to make his food not only delicious, but helpful. Of course he can also just create regular alchemical goods such as healing potions, fire bombs, and invisibility potions, but he prefers to spice it up with his cooking. Katalmach does have some basic utility spells alongside his Alchemy ability however, such as a spell that can produce a small amount of clean or salt water, a spell that creates a small ball of fire in his hand, and a general purpose spell called Prestidigitation.
Personality: A strange one to be certain. While he's about as gruff and violent as any other orc, his focus is less about simply bullying and fighting others, but cooking. Sure this often means he hunts, but he doesn't just hunt wild and dangerous game, but also valuable resources such as vegetables, fruits, and even knowledge. Yes, knowledge about how to cook which has lead to his skills in alchemy. Unlike most orcs Katalmach has no real issues about other races beyond a healthy those of caution, since he's aware that most would distrust him for being an orc. He can be rather compassionate and generous when it comes to his cooking, as he believes the best meals are ones that are shared. That being said he is still violently protective of his food, and stealing it is tantamount to suicide. Also openly admits that he is a cannibal, though understands that sort of meal isn't for everyone. Still, if he kills you, don't expect an open casket funeral.

Background: Katalmach's reasons for being at the camp are multiple. For starters, he has been exiled from his tribe due to his quirks. Previously he went hunting with some of his kin, where quite a few ended up dying to a large and terrible monster because he was off gathering honey and herbs. While they did eventually slay the monster, the tribe had gotten quite annoyed by Katalmach's obsession with food, and thus he was exiled. As in, he ran away before they could kill him. Afterwards Katalmach worked as a mercinary, using his job fighting and killing to fund his hobby for cooking. He tried to get work as a chef but most people wouldn't hire an orc in the kitchen even if he keeps himself clean. He did find work with this eccentric elven who had an odd taste for orcs. Katalmach rebuffed her advances but did take a job as her personal chef for a while. It was with her that Katalmach had learned more about alchemy, as she personally taught any orc she could convince into having private lessons with her.

As for how Katalmach heard about the camp, he heard about it from some humans who had visited his lady. Humans, being fairly rare as far as Katalmach was concerned, were petitioning his mistress for funds to help their expedition in this mysterious camp ground. She was hesitant to put money into an endeavor that may bare no fruit, but Katalmach spoke up and offered to go with them to ensure that the place was worthy of his mistress's time. He honestly admitted that he was curious about this place and wonders if he could create new and delicious meals there, and promises to bring something special to his mistress in due time. Interested in the prospect of Katalmach actually coming back to her after so long, she allowed him to leave with the humans, giving him some supplies for his journey and funds for the camp to use.

Equipment:
Heavy Steel Armor and a big honking Battleaxe. Nothing particularlly unique or magical about either aside from their high quality craftsmanship. Courtesy of Katalmach's lady.

Cooking Supplies - A basic cooking kit that includes an iron pot, an iron skillet, a ladle, a skewer, a wooden cutting board, a carving knife, a butcher's knife, an iron tripod for the pot, a packet of tinder, and a small selection of local or otherwise easy to find seasonings.

Alchemy Tools - Multiple apparatus consisting of a mortar and pedestal for grinding down ingredients, a retort to distill mixtures, a calcinator to heat up substances, and an alembic to separate compounds.

Chill Box - A surprisingly light weight metal container housing the bulk of Katalmach's alchemist regents and ingredients. Various oils, body parts, spices, paste, and sauce is safely stored in this extra-dimensional container. Likely the most valuable thing on his person, this container is strong enough to withstand dragon fire and is entirely sealed, preventing contamination. Also contains up to three days worth of firewood and a small table.

Clothing - Katalmach has three outfits: His casual wear, his chef uniform, and his adventuring gear. His casual wear mainly consist of his boots, a fur kilt, and a cotton long sleeve if he feels cold. His Chef Uniform is far more ornate and elaborate, and can double as formal wear should such a need arise. Finally his adventuring gear consist of thicker but flexible hide and leather to assist in protecting him, as well as tactical bandoliers and pouches so he may easily access needed equipment/snacks.

Sir Ebonsteel Bloodfang - Katalmach's cat. He uses it to hunt rodents who may try to invade his kitchen space. Katalmach calls her "Ebony" for short.

Rations - Katalmach will always have a few days worth of rations on hand to snack on or feed people if needed. His most signature meal however is the Hungry Warrior's Ready Meal, a meal consisting if two large fried drumsticks, hard boiled eggs, whole wheat bread, cheese, and nuts. Not only suitable for a hungry fighter in the go, his delux meal is magically enchanted.

The drum sticks are each imbued with greater strength, enhancing one's physical strength for ten minutes after digesting. The eggs can magically suppress the harmful effects of poison and disease for an hour, as well assisting the body in overcoming these affliction. The bread grants the eater greater endurance against harsh elements, allowing them to withstand the deadly effects of extreme cold or hot weather for a whole day. The cheese can fortify one’s willpower against mind affecting magic such as illusions or mind control, though it only works once within the twenty-four hours the cheese is consumed entirely. Lastly the nuts are magically treated to emulate the effects of a goodberry spell, providing rather minor healing properties when eaten, but one but alone can satisfy one’s need for food or drink for the rest of his day. Of course nothing wrong with having seconds.
