Mickilennial Updates: - My father passed away in October 2025 - Dental health has led to several root canals - Mental breaks have led to inconsistency, be patient with me
I've already mentioned this to one player in a PM, so I may as well put it here.
In light of Half withdrawing as Batman, I want to give whoever takes the cowl a clean slate while leaving myself open to new possibilities since the original idea was to take advantage of Gotham to have a pool of writing partners I could more easily collaborate with than I can with Maine/Atlantis boy.
I say that to say that I am withdrawing Jason Todd/Spawn.
Half also knew this was likely coming, but tagging @Half Pint so he sees it.
Woke up thirty minutes ago and decided to start my day with a cup of coffee... and reading everything I had not read already in the IC. Hoo. That was a lot. Great posts all around, everyone, even from people I have a less than ideal history and relationship with. I would say it is some of the best writing I've seen in these kind of games in a long time.
This is a hot take (maybe) on my part, but if a person is going so far as to invite other people into a world/universe/lore they've crafted by way of making and RP, they've already handed away a noticeable degree of control to others anyways. From the point that a GM accepts another player's character(s) into the fold, absolute control is forefeited. And if a GM is too bogged down to give their own work any attention, but has half a dozen players that are able to willing to keep things going, seems a bit selfish to just pull the plug. What's the harm in having a Co-GM or two that can hold the fort while the GM Prime is busy with other life things?
If someone wants a story to move entirely at their discretion, they're best off just writing a solo piece, IMO.
Incidentally, I've personally seen more GMs with [mostly] original RPs willingly and smoothly hand the GM role to others than I have GMs running Fandom RPs. Both instances I cited of GMs denying or being less-than-amicable about transfer of responsibility were Fandom RPs, for example.

He has trained with the League of Assassins following his son’s death and employed their methods to some degree in his war on crime.
◼ Lethal Combatant Trained in boxing, krav maga, and a variety of other martial arts, Thomas Wayne utilizes a methodical and brutal manner of physicality when deposing his foes. In his youth, he admired Ted Grant, the Gotham-born Heavyweight Champion of the World, and following his wife’s mental break studied with some dubious elements of the world. Batman’s crusade is not one you want to be on the receiving end of.
◼ Medical Expertise Thomas Wayne was once an expert surgeon with an expertise in cardiothoracic and neurological procedures. He can call upon these skills in his investigations in Gotham, and sometimes on those who make those investigations challenging.
◼ Tactical Analysis & Investigation The study of criminology is one Thomas has curated after years of arduous preparation and practice in the field. “The world’s greatest detective”, a snarky adage employed by certain members of the GCPD has run somewhat true. He knows how people tick and how organizations operate. How else could he dismantle them so the loss of his son would never happen to anyone else? -

Prior to his vigilante career, Thomas Wayne was notorious for his once-in-a-generation mind. He was one of the most acclaimed surgeons in the world and often guest lectured at the University of Gotham which is where he met his wife, Martha Kane.
Martha Kane would introduce him to the world of social justice, charity, and her inner circle of friends. In many respects Thomas was the brains and Martha was the heart, and it caught the attention of everyone. A bitter irony that would lead to the murder of their son, Bruce, eight years later at the hands of a man named Joe Chill. It would be the undoing of both Martha and Thomas in ways no one could have anticipated. A bitter, abhorrent curse fit only for Gotham City.
Obsessed with vengeance, Thomas fell into a depression of rage and sorrow. He lost sense of himself. His oath as a surgeon, and his values instilled by both his family and Martha. It didn’t take long for the symbolism of a Bat to inspire his mutation into a creature of violence and retribution. A rot that would intoxicate his soul for many subsequent years; and so he became the vigilante known as The Batman.
For it was the criminal underworld who destroyed his family, so he too, would destroy theirs.
And he would start with Francesco Falcone, the man who ordered Joe Chill to kill his son to send a message. It would be only fitting that Falcone would receive a much more brutal, painful, and final message. It was then, after killing Falcone, that the domino fell. The Batman continued to target the crime families, their corruption, and their taint on the city. It would eventually lead to new influences to come to the city, or to rise from the shadows, and some of them happened to be creatures driven by Gotham’s darkness. Soon Gotham became a place of monsters and maniacs. So the stories of The Batman began.
P L O T ( S ) & G O A L ( S ) P L O T ( S ) & G O A L ( S )
Batman was one of the first mainline characters in Ultimate DC, then run by Andy and Master Bruce, that I ever wrote. I feel like returning to the beginning but doing something different with it should be my goal here to keep my interest in a comic-based concurrent game. So this is where my brain went.
It also helped that I’ve recently been rewatching the Flashpoint adaption of the comic book arc that DC Animation put out some years ago.
This concept is not one where Bruce Wayne is Batman or even alive; it is an interpretation of the brutality and precision of Thomas Wayne in the face of a tragedy that broke him years ago. At this point in his career, Thomas Wayne has fought a variety of foes in Gotham City and has found himself facing the same question Bruce often does in the middle of his career: does his presence invite the madness that has come to Gotham, and is he merely a deterrent and not a cure of Gotham’s darkness?
I am leaving more tangible certainties of his backstory open to collaboration. The book is open, though I will have enough foundational pieces present and be clear in what kind of Batman he is and has been. He’s still a hero, but if people in the mainstream continuities were skeptical of Bruce due to his methods, then Thomas would make them believe Batman is beyond saving – or at least for a time.
I know I am already playing Black Canary - and I have no intention of voiding my interest in doing so - but this is something I’d like to do in parallel. This will character-lock me to Gotham, but I’m hoping it’ll be acceptable despite my first Black Canary (as of the time of this writing) being a work in progress. I never expected Half Pint to stop being Batman, so the next best thing is someone who has been wanting to play this exact concept for over a year now. I can’t pass up this opportunity. If accepted, expect my full commitment to this game as a collaborator.
I intend to get my first Black Canary post up on the 15th. The GM discarding Batman did put some holes in some of my planning but ironically opened Gotham up so I can do whatever at the same time. I just need to make adjustments and finish what I've already started writing.
I am in the process of completely rewriting Hanako's sheet, the OOC, and maybe even the IC opener. A virus has infected my brain and it must be heard.
Conversely, I will be maximizing the character cap at eight at this time. In the last version of this RP we had thirteen player characters and three of them were played by me. I'm not privy on doing large group RPs these days, so I'm going to have to ultimately choosy even if I want to essentially write with everyone here. We have several sheets vying for the sole Tank slot left, several DPS, and a few for the Support options. Acceptance going forward is not deadline based but rather GM discretion.
The tank player will be chosen by the end of today. I'll sort out the support options after that. And then the DPS.
That is enough interest for me to clean things up and post a thread at some point in the next few days. At least y'all have a good sense of things and enough to formulate ideas into concrete concepts. 😊
