@Guardian Angel Haruki This is less about what's Actually the case, and more just Voth being innately distrusting of others. He is an evil cleric, raised in a society that promotes underhandedness and cruelty, who worships a god that venerates cleverness and caution second only to murder.

And while the rule of hospitality demands a person be a good host, so far as I'm aware it doesn't actually have any clause that disqualifies a person from being obligated to repay a gift in kind.

More over, the rules are currently enforcing themselves. Even if Voth believes Nibs doesn't intend to get a one-up on them, given his experience in the fey wilds so far, to his mind it's always better to err on the side of caution.

Finally; I know he's wearing a blindfold. I said as much in my post.

There was no cheating, to his mind, since the deck was face up for both players. He could not be blamed if his opponent chose to not take off the blindfold.

Voth

Once everyone had entered the cave, Voth decided to step inside. What the man was doing with the gold was strange to him, but ultimately he dismissed it as simple transmutation. When he saw the man flinch, though, and the small shadow poking at him, Voth knew there was powerful booyahg at play. The spell he had cast told him that whatever the strange shadows were, they were not any kind of creature. While their effect on the man was obvious, Voth could not tell if the shadows were actually moving, or if it was some manner of hallucination his mind conjured to cover up whatever was actually happening.

Either way, whatever was happening was none of his business. At a guess, Voth assumed this man had likely upset some powerful fey, given his claim to be cursed. Whether or not the rest of it was true - that he asked for the punishment to make amends for past wrongs - was not something Voth cared about, one way or the other. What Voth did care about, though, were all the gifts the old man was giving out. Regardless of what the man said, in Prismeer, Voth had learned that nothing was free. Though, as Voth had learned some time back, just because nothing was free did not mean a bet could not be won.

As he approached, Voth would reach down to the small pouch at his side. Pulling it out, he would begin to shuffle up the deck of cards he had taken off his eldest brother those many years ago. "Must have something big needs doin', given away such fine gifts as them in the middle of Prismeer. I've a likin' your fancy booyahg, but I've no interest in fallin' for your tricks. Instead, how's about you be a good host, and indulge us in a game?"

"Nothing over fancy. Simple cut and draw, with the high card wins. 'Course, simple game is no fun without a bet. I win, then those fancy things you're handin' out are the winnings, and each o' us here is getting one. I lose, and whatever it is you're trickin' people into helpin' with, you win my help with it for free. Deal?"

Of course, Voth had no intention of leaving any of this to chance. Voth intended to lay the deck face up for the game. That way he could see what card was taken, and just draw a higher one on his turn. There was no cheating, to his mind, since the deck was face up for both players. He could not be blamed if his opponent chose to not take off the blindfold. Of course, even if he did, then Voth could just flip the deck and use the marks on the back to win anyway.
@Guardian Angel Haruki So your intent is to make any game of cards player a more elongated set of back and forth rolls, with different play styles allowing different stats added to the roll? As opposed to just a single roll off to determine the outcome of a single game.

Not being facetious; Just wanting clarification.

Also, again; Voth did not mark the cards. They're the same deck he got during the backstory I sent you. They were marked when he got them. He's just had them long enough that he was able to figure out that they're marked. My intention was to state that now, because it wasn't previously stated, before it became relevant.

Would you still like a roll for that, or would you rather set the DC based off some static aspect of Voth? Like his passive perception or insight.
@Guardian Angel Haruki Voth has proficiency with playing cards. What stat would be rolled to go alongside that proficiency? I could see charisma, but is it more important to have a good poker face, or to be able to read other people's poker face?

Also, Voth has a deck of playing cards. I would like to state for the record now that they are marked in a manner he is familiar with, as he has owned them for a long time, but he himself did not actually put on the cards.
@Guardian Angel Haruki That's an 8 on arcana. Voth has vague suspicions that those people might be magic... Maybe. Perhaps some strange fey hallucination brought on by smelling owlbear farts. Shouldn't have given it all that lean protein...
@Guardian Angel Haruki Detect evil and good includes undead. So that means the shadow figures aren't ghost, shadows, or other forms of undead, correct? They're not actually, physically there?
Voth: *Mentions the three laws of Prismeer enforcing themselves.*

EVERYONE ELSE:

@Guardian Angel Haruki Why not?

That's a powerful 11.

I'm almost certain it's magic! Probably.
Nope. Nibs is a human. ^_^

Soo... Not Elven make, then? Human make shoes. Knock-offs, if you will. Like a Prada bag made in China. They're not "Boots of Elvenkind," but "Boots of I-Can't-Believe-It's-Not-Elvish!"
Voth

As the cave came into view, Voth would bow his head and whisper a prayer for guidance to Grankhul. Once it was done, and he saw the elf venture first into the cave, the cleric would poke his own head in just long enough to get a look at the man. While turning gold to thread was certainly an odd venture, it was by no means the strangest thing he had seen. Looking him over, he sized up the man, letting the guidance of his god lead his intuition.

Based on the man's appearance, he seemed to be of no threat. While what he did was clearly some kind of booyahg, he spoke no incantation and did not appear to be concentrating on a spell. Likely the trick had something to do with a magic item, or so Voth would assume. Either way, the strange creature that had lead them to the cave recognized him, and Voth had not sensed the creature intended to lead them into a trap.

After looking long enough to satisfy his curiosity, Voth would step back outside the cave. If the rest entered, he would follow. However, he did not want to be the last one inside the cave with the owlbear still following them. In that same vane, Voth would whisper yet another prayer to his god, this one more powerful than simple guidance. Speaking in his native tongue once more, he would pray, "Ever Vigilant Grankhul, through your sight let me see friend and foe."
