Question about name changes - Seeing that this is now a thing on the forum I have some questions.

If one is to change their name and they are say listed in an Rp they are already in - will tags for them change in previous posts? If not, will say if someone clicks on their old name in an @mention will it redirect someone to their old name?

Also, is there going to be a list of name changes so that GM's will know if someone changed their name? Say they had a problem with @Joe in the past and banned them from an RP but Joe changed his name to Ralph and then tried to join a new RP that GM is hosting - will the Gm be able to check for this?

And about Pm's - what about the pm's people are in conversations with a person that has changed their name? Will they continue to go through or will new pm's have to be started?

While the old tags wont change in post which have previously been submitted, they will still lead to the same user. I couldn't tell you if using the old tag name will notify the person though as I haven't yet tried it yet.

We, the mods, can see a list of the latest changes but I don't believe there's a public viewing. I can say though that most have been relatively minor with either spelling or easy to spot adjustments. From what I can see no one has yet to create a new image. With PMs however the name will change but the conversation will continue unhindered. Keeping that in mind you have a list of old users tagged in a PM or something, that will still be valid for your particular reasons.

To understand it all a bit better imagine how every user has a number attached to their account. You can test this with the roleplayerguild.com/users where adding /1 will lead to Mahz.
(Eg: roleplayerguild.com/users/1)
The Username is merely a label on top of that for us to identify each other with.

Blows off the dusty cobwebs.
Is there anyway to change your username on the guild? I assume is had to go through the mods or else it would be happening willy nilly.

Yeah, let a member of staff know what name you want and we can change it over for you.
I believe one's creativity really comes down to the ability to tell a story and pace it out correctly. So often I witness and experience roleplays where people push too hard and too fast early on, that they use all their ideas for plots in the initial character sheets, and when it comes to the roleplay they are already trying to write the conclusion to these stories as a beginning instead.

To give a guide a story should follow three acts and be within a set structure. There is a video that you can watch that will explain it in greater detail, but the structure given is as follows:

ACT 1
  • Introduction to character
  • Introduction to setting
  • The turning point

ACT 2
  • Sub Plot
  • Love interest
  • Midpoint
  • Plan
  • Execute

ACT 3
  • Failure
  • Success

Most of the time roleplays won't reach Act 3, but if you have a look at Act 1 and Act 2 you will notice something interesting...
- How many Roleplays start with a proper introduction of a character?
- How many Roleplays build up the setting for the characters?
- How many Roleplays have that important turning point that changes the character?

My answer, not many.

If you look closely most people will have this information in their character sheets and the OOC. They will skip over all these details and move on to Act 2. By page 2 of the IC I can guarantee that many roleplays will be planning the big battle, the player challenge, the love interest, and the many subplots... and yet these characters have failed to complete Act 1 properly. They don't know their other characters, they don't understand the world they live in, and they don't have that turning point (eg: "will you pick the blue or red pill?" ~ The Matrix)

So I bring up all this about pacing when we are talking about creativity because people can be too eager to just throw out half their hand of cards in the hopes of creating that cool, memorable character, only to find that they have less then a few "possible" ideas left. Ideas that can fall apart if the GM makes one simple, and harmless decision for the story. At that point you're only a handful pages into the roleplay and you realize it isn't working and you've lost your jam... hence writers block.

To sum it up, "Write less, and brainstorm more".

Edit: If you want a decent example you can look at one of the roleplays I'm in. I have the several sub plots per character (running 3 characters) and I can write so much at any point, but I drop in small hints every time with every post containing one piece of the overall puzzle. My other players know half of what I want to achieve but my audience isn't really them, it's the other characters in the roleplay. I want the other characters to figure out my character's story, and I want to read the reactions that have been carefully crafted and planned over a period of time.

@Mahz Can we have an additional folder in the PMs and have it titled "Roleplays"? Currently my folders do have a mix of stuff by dedicating one to IC stuff will make it far more easier to manage.
User was addressed and we apologise for not catching this sooner. Mahz is fully aware of these kinds of attacks and he is working on some features to help control and clean up the vandalism.
Not to double-post, but... seriously... I need hlep. XD

I'm in the middle of a PokeCrisis - I'm finally playing Pokemon Y and I've already got almost all of my team, but I keep learning about the Gen VI Pokemon and it's so hard to pick the last slot.

So currently the team is:

Axew
Lucario
Quilladin
Fletchinder
Wartortle
Kirlia

But I want the Onix I caught, or a Rhyhorn, and I really like the fossil Pokemon (but I'm even having difficulty deciding between the two, though I think I prefer the Ice one, and also Aerodactyl later in the game)... Plus I'm still super early in the game, so there's a butt-ton more to go and I have no idea how to decide what I want in my party. This is the first time I've had this problem in any Pokemon game. Oh, also, I'll probably want an Eevee... Though I might have to say no for just one game on that.

Aerodactyl does have weaknesses to a few things cause of flying. Onix can evolve into Steelix if traded, but honestly I'd go with Ferrothorn instead. Only weakness is fighting and fire but it has an ability that hurts others on contact and you can breed in stealth rock, a great move in difficult battles.

Moves:
- Stealth Rock
- Ingrain
- Curse
- Gyroball

Item:
- Leftovers

That should set you up nicely where you can follow up with another Pokemon if needed.
(Ingrain will hold it in unless it faints, but by then you should have 3 stealths up and Max curse)
That's fine. Sorry if I've neglected this a bit myself as I was kinda thrown into a work course a month ago, right after starting this, and its chewed up some of my time. No biggie, just gotta catch up on a bit of reading and writing.

The idea was bought up a couple weeks ago about a welcome committee of sorts and they can be ones who can be approached by new users. I can't remember the exact details but it was only recently discussed.
