Oh also, politics really has no place in casual conversation. Especially the tired, tedious issue of american politics when you live in fucking Canada and can't vote in the US anyway. Didn't your mama ever tell you that it's impolite to talk about politics in mixed company?

Christianity in RP?

I would tend to agree with @Shoryu Magami up there, with the exception of only playing 'true follower' characters. The subject of Christianity is a tricky one as well because there are so many different types/denominations, all with somewhat differing beliefs (for example, the difference between Catholics and Calvinists is quite a bit, not to mention lots of other denominations in between). So, even if you're a practicing Christian, if you're playing a character outside your denomination, I recommend research. A mistake I see with a lot of RPs with Christian themes is that they default to the mainly Catholic way of things as if that's the only type of Christianity out there.

As for 'true followers', I'd have to say it's pretty hard to define a true follower. Splitting the issue up by denomination would help, and you could make a character who follows all of that denomination's doctrines, but it's important to remember that everyone practices faith differently, and many teachings differ even from church to church or pastor to pastor within a denomination. So it's pretty hard to make a 'true Christian' since often, everyone is taught a little differently. (There's a whole debate on that topic, but I have no interest in getting into it).

On the subject of characters, I also have great interest in imperfect followers: maybe they're simply interpreting their faith in a unique, personal way; maybe they disagree with some teachings, but still consider themselves Christian; maybe they're a die-hard believer who's recently started to lose faith in God; or maybe they say their prayers and go to church every sunday, but abandon those ideals every other day of the week; there are a million and one ways to go, and they all tend to be a bit more intriguing than your regular, good-hearted Christians.

As for execution as a setting/theme, which is more to what you're actually looking for, I'd say to read up on Christian mythology. There are a lot of interesting stories in the bible - even for the non-religious, if you consider them to simply be stories, they're pretty good - and they're great to incorporate into the lore of an RP.

As for do's and don't's, I'll again recommend to do your research on whatever denomination you're going with (it helps to actually talk to people about it, I'm sure they'd be happy to explain their faith to you if you asked them). If you're going to, say, mix various denominational beliefs together or change something, just mention that you did, so nobody gets confused or offended. (You'll notice it's very hard to please everyone - just do the best you can). It's a good idea not to make an attitude like "God is evil" or "Christianity is bad" or anything like that, because people will get offended and on the internet it's best to avoid drama. If you want to spin it that way, I recommend creating a fictional religion from scratch.

Hey guys, I'm glad to see all is going more or less well here.
If you're interested on an update from me: as you all know, I have been away because of stress and my grandmother'a failing health. Well, sadly, she passed away on October 10. My entire family misses her dearly, and it'll take a long time for things to feel normal again, but we're relieved that she's no longer suffering.

I don't know if I could get back into this after being so far behind, what happened to my character, or if you guys even want me back; but I'm still happy to chill around the OOC with you guys ^_^

Unnecessarily Detailed Update

Hey guys I'm here with an update. I'm feeling better (I think many of the issues I was having when I was here last were due to a new medication but since then those issues have corrected themselves) but I likely won't be coming back to the site for a while yet. Along with some lingering issues with keeping interest/motivation, I'm going to be working a lot more (I work at an office supply store and it's back to school season) as well as starting university on the sixth, and as if that weren't enough, my grandmother (who I've mentioned was doing well in her battle against lung cancer) was hospitalized on Monday. Turns out the chemotherapy made her bones extremely brittle and a particularly hard bump into the counter resulted in a fractured pelvis, which she then walked on for a week until she was too weak to stand. She is now on bed rest and doing better, although some days she has problems with confusion (not knowing what's going on, thinking she's somewhere else, etc) which are, however, getting fewer. She's going to be in hospital for 5-6 weeks minimum, so I don't really know how that's going to affect me time-wise, but it's definitely a load on my mind.

I'd like to extend a huge thanks and an apology to you guys; the former for being so understanding, and the latter for flaking out so much XD. @RomanAria Thank you so much for volunteering to add Lienna to your already enormous character load. Even though it feels really weird to have someone else writing my characters, there are few people I'd choose for the job other than you. ^_^

@NarcissisticPotato I'm so sorry for causing you so much grief! It pains me to leave because I so enjoy your writing, and I know how annoying it must be to have one of your principle partners in this story go AWOL.

Anyway, this sounds like I'm writing a eulogy for my account or something, and for that I apologize XD Good luck guys, I hope to come back as soon as I can ^_^
