Bio

You JUST scrolled down!

Hello out there! My name's Mason. I like a lot of random stuff like comics, Masters of the Universe, M*A*S*H, X-Files, conspiracy theories, as well as a good superhero themed role play! I'm more of a DC freak than a Marvel zombie but I did grow up on mutants and 3rd string heroes. Once in awhile I'll make a few micros in MSPaint for my RP's because I love designing heroes as much as I do writing/reading about them. I'm about to try and get another random themed game off the ground, if you're interested gimme a shout!

My top RP's on the Guild:

Young Justice 2020
Justice League Unlimited
Titans of Gotham
Champions of Engine City
Marvel Reborn
Legion of Superheroes Return [stat based]

Top Characters:

Ditto - Young Justice series
Bulleteer - Justice League Unlimited
Leviathan - Titans of Gotham
Fastlane - Champions of Engine City
the Thing II - Marvel Reborn
Ultra Boy II - Legion of Superheroes Return

I've been RP'ing for awhile. I mostly RP to keep my writing skills up to par, and I generally RP between Casual and Advanced. I've been a member of the guild for quite a bit, pre Guildfall even. Ninety percent of the time you'll find me in some superhero themed RP or something based off of another fandom like MotU or Power Rangers. Currently in the process of developing my own comics!

Favorite DC heroes (I won't go into villains to save space) in no order: Aquaman, Hawkman, Green Lantern (Kyle Rayner), Superboy (the clone), Swamp Thing, Starman, Animal Man, the Ray (90's era), Impulse, Captain Atom, and Batman Beyond.

Favorite Marvel heroes list: Human Torch I & II, Capt. Mar-Vell, Black Bolt, the classic Destroyer, Havok, Multiple Man, classic Scarlet Spider, Spiderman 2099, Nova, and Colossus.

OTHER FAVORITES: Space Ghost, the Rocketeer, the Maxx, Shadowhawk, Green Hornet, Madman, Doctor Star/Andromeda, the Phantom, He-Man, and Zorro.

...A-ahem. But man, that just makes me want to do a Kamen Rider or magical girl ripoff even more. XD

@The Kid LanternIt saddens me that everyone watched Masked Rider and no-one watched the other, much better American Kamen Rider adaptation, Kamen Rider Dragon Knight. D:

I *think* I saw an episode or two of that show on the WB/CW network a loooong time ago... on a Saturday I think when Saturday morning kids shows were taking a dive. I remember the character looking like something from Power Rangers or Masked Rider, then when I saw the dragon thing show up I was somewhat sold. Back then I was watching less of that sort of thing and I did't have stable internet so I couldn't really research it so beyond the one or two episodes I managed to catch I was clueless.

~KL~
@The Kid LanternIt's not like the constructs are living? lol

But he can't imagine another pilot to take the dead pilot's place. Because that isn't even realistic and the things he imagines are realistic. So if the pilot dies, he dies, and the helicopter goes down.

He doesn't completely understand his powers. The STRIKE force just had him build on what he knows he can do and gave him a specific theme to stick with so he doesn't go crazy with his imagination creating things outside that theme because then that would make him dangerous.

The Dog Tags are a construct. It's like how the human mind will defensively repress a bad memory. He made those to keep himself in check. So when they are removed, he is depowered to an average human because that is just what happens. Because he accepts that is the result when they are removed. If he never not accepts it and goes against it, then he is basically telling himself, my imagination is without limit. It's no different when a superhuman with superstrength holds back. He still has ridiculous super strength but he holds back for whatever reason morals, religion, ethics, etc.

I didn't mention any other weaknesses because I thought it was self-explanatory. If I didn't say he was resistant to bullets, then he isn't (unless he's wearing kevlar or sitting in a tank). I only mentioned the things worth mentioning.

Okay that makes a little more sense. If he's had the powers though from a young age and the government has been training him this long... he either has control, he's been brainwashed, or had his mind tampered with ala Jean Grey suppressing her full power to keep the Dark Phoenix in check.

I'll compromise though with the Extras power. If he's trained to ONLY make specific types of constructs for the government, perhaps his Extras could just look like agents of STRIKE? A limit to how many he can create would also be needed, like a max of two or three as I'd imagine it'd take more power/concentration to create something living as opposed to a weapon or vehicle. Also, would the Extras have their own voices, personalities, etc? Cause if they're anything other than a soulless operator it would still seem a little too God-like.

Under Dog Tags just note he also has 'Standard Human Weaknesses' when not wearing protective armor to counter specific weapons.

~KL~
I love them both [Utraman moreso, I only know of the American Kamen Rider... Masked Rider], so he's good either way LOL

~KL~
@Holy Soldier I don't think you'd have to rewrite the whole bio, he creates stuff with his mind so it's not beyond the realm of possibility to control it with his mind too. Letting a construct human get shot and then making a construct helicopter go down because of it doesn't make much sense either when he could literally just imagine another human construct in the other's place. There's also the option of creating a vehicle construct for somebody else to pilot/drive.

Creating objects is one thing, creating life... even as a construct, is a bit too God-like and it needs more limits somewhere. The Dog Tags being his only real weakness is also a problem and contradicts itself. When removed he is powered down to a normal human, but without them he'll fall victim to his own imagination? Which is it? He either has powers when they're on or off, but still... that being his only weakness is a problem. And HE created them? He was trained by the government but now he's a scientist/inventor as well?

Upon closer inspection those bits need more work, but still I like the general idea of this guy.

~KL~
@Holy SoldierLooks good so far, couple of requests though.

Giving him the ability to create inorganic objects like toys, armor, weapons, and vehicles is fine... but creating Extras is too much. The objects can just be controlled by his mind anyway, so it would seem superfluous. Also, with this being an original universe... SHIELD doesn't exist here and the term 'metahuman' doesn't either. I'd just stick with the standard label of being superhuman. If you need a government agency like SHIELD we can just come up with something together as a group. For example... STRIKE: Superhuman Tactical Response Internationally Keen Enforcers. That's off the top of my head, but you get the idea...

If you can work with that then Soldier of Fortune is acceptable. As for Archetype... if he's an Army brat he's clearly a Super Soldier. Just more super than Capt. America.

~KL~
Right now you can have a Primary Character and a Secondary Character. I'd like for everyone to have their Primary Character Sheet finished before the IC gets going and before you get to working on a Secondary Character. You can create an alien species or whatever you need for your backstory, just be mindful of the types of Archetypes. If it's not something similar to one of the ones listed just make it a Wildcard Archetype.

~KL~
So is this also gonna be left without any direction at all past the first GM post?

I already mentioned this in the last thread, as it was originally posted in the iCheck. I don't care who's got the problem be it you or @LHG100, but this makes four times I've posted this...

I'm also going to be one of those people who insists this is a High Casual RP. I'm not exactly looking for Advanced level length posts, I just don't want to have to assist everyone with their own individual stories because that isn't what this game is about. Two or three players could be working on their own thing in the game while I'm mimicking a battle like Hulk vs Thing or Superman vs Batman with another player in the background. If we lack a Superman or Capt. America type character, then the group can have dibs on collectively making them like I mentioned above.

@Lord Wraith hit the nail on the head with his response:

When you sign up for an RP that says 'sandbox' you should really know you're getting yourself into a self directed and led game where its up to you to collaborate with other players for interaction. Sandboxes aren't GM led, they just give you a setting to go play in.

If that's giving somebody too much freedom then this isn't the RP for you. I'm not doing this 'the exact same way and expecting a different result.' I'm CLEARLY pointing out in this iCheck and in the new OOC and IC that at no point do you need a GM or Co-GM to tell you to do something or react a certain way with your character[s]. There WILL be sandbox heroes and villains to use as fodder created by the group, but in no way are you limited to JUST using those characters. This universe will be exactly what you make of it and nothing more. If half the cast doesn't know how to write an original character in a setting of their choosing that's not my fault. I could write three paragraphs, advanced level even, on Batman eating a cheeseburger at McDonalds. However, I can't make chicken salad out of chicken shit. Also, be mindful of the rules once the IC begins, because apparently nobody reads the GM's posts...

5.) Problems with the game or players should be sent directly to me through PM's. I don't want a bunch of bickering in the OOC.

~KL~
Sounds good guys! Start working on Primary Character Sheets for your main character be it hero or villain!

U N I V E R S A L

Welcome to New Athens, a city of adventure and intrigue. In New Athens, a hero is made every day and a villain every night. A thriving metropolis, New Athens is a modern city, built in the Appalachian Mountains of the eastern United States. Over the years the city thrived with coal mining being it's main source of revenue however New Athens quickly became a leading industrial city on the eastern 'States with several noteworthy corporations' factories and plants. Westman Chemical Plant, Napier Valley Ammunition Plant, Pepsi Cola Bottling Company, and Wells Helicopter are just a few of the reasons people choose to live and work in the grand city of tomorrow. The Olympian Gazette is widely known for its stories of new superhumans and celebrities, as well as the general local news. Midtown is where most of the action is, as well as the Mercury Mall. Subdivisions, landmarks, and schools include Lee Heights, the Kirby River, Shuster Elementary School, Universal Avenue [one of the longest streets in America], Simon Middle School, Kubert High School, Riverview [ghetto subdivision], Highland Park, Warpath State Park [in the mountains], the Museum of Tomorrow [tech museum], etc. The city sees a number of tourists as well, all trying to get a glimpse of superhumans in action. New Athens has more superhumans than any other major metropolitan city in America with a general population of over three hundred and sixty thousand residents with an estimated fifteen thousand superhumans possibly within city limits. And who are these superhumans?

That's where you guys come in. This RP idea is to build a universe but not necessarily a team right off the bat unless the lot of you wants to. We'll mostly be basing our characters off of Marvel archetypes just because they have a wider range of possibilities. Spots are still available and I'll add new types of archetypes as we move forward I'd like to see adapted into the game. Right now several of them are listed under Wildcards for lack of a better term as I didn't want to get super specific when determining the archetypes for this.

Here are a couple of Avengers offshoot teams created by DC. First off ‘the Maximums’ based on the Ultimate Avengers aka the Ultimates:

Here’s another with a much larger cast based on the larger Avengers line-ups of recent relaunches:

The general idea is to build a universe similar to how the big two comic book companies have done with heroic crossovers, fights between the heroes, and team-ups leading into the eventual founding of a superteam within the game. Now, that isn't saying you HAVE to join a superteam. Originally in the comics the Hulk only joined the Avengers long enough to take down Loki. When looking at the building blocks of a more connected universe I look to movies and story lines like Batman v Superman, Civil War, the Avengers, Justice League War [the animated retelling of the new52 JL origin], Hulk vs. the Thing, Secret Invasion, etc. There are a lot of teams and concepts involved, but not everyone's characters will be team players or want to be. And I get that. There will always be the option to have a 'Wildcard' which is exactly what it sounds like. Can be anything and not even based on an existing archetype. Maybe you wanna create something of an amalgam of Hawkman and the Punisher and toss into the game as a vigilante w/superpowers? That can still happen.

Available Archetypes and Marvel examples include:

Super Soldier ACCEPTED - Soldier of Fortune
Demi-God/Goddess
Advanced Techno [Ironman, Black Panther]
Feral Man/Woman [Wolverine, Tigra, Beast]
Archer/Sharpshooter [Hawkeye, Punisher]
Size Manipulator ACCEPTED - Sentinel [Changed the Archetype since his powers included giant growth]
Big Man/Woman [Hulk, She Hulk, Thing]
Vigilante [Moon Knight, Punisher (again lol), Daredevil]
Wildcard 1 ACCEPTED - Mayhew [mystic pawn dealer]
Wildcard 2
Wildcard 3
Cosmic Outlaw [Starlord, Darkhawk, Gamora]
Plant Person [Black Tom, Groot]
Atlantian [Namor, Attuma, Namorita, anybody wanna put a spin on Atlantis?]
Alien 1 ACCEPTED - Radiance
Alien 2 [I'm willing to accept a couple more original alien races to make it a true universal theme]
Elemental ACCEPTED - Sekhemi [fire and darkness manipulation]
Big Man Villain [Red Hulk, Juggernaut, Abomination]
Genius ACCEPTED - Gilgamesh Sinn
Wildcard 4

Here's the CS template. Throughout the game we'll create supporting characters and such for our characters and the universe as a group, however players will also have the option of a secondary character. Secondary Characters will need the same info as your Primary Characters and will just be used less often whenever you're not coming up with anything for your Primary Characters. Sandbox heroes and villains will also be made as we need them and can be used by anyone and everyone. For now, let's just work on your Primary Characters, can be hero or villain or something in between....

Archetype:
Name:
Alias:
Age:
Powers:
Weaknesses:
Alignment: [hero or villain, or walking the line]
Personality: [5 words best describing your character]
Appearance: [pic or description]
BRIEF Bio:
Storylines: [What do you have in mind for your character?]
Notes: [anything else you need to tell us?]

So, who's got heroes? And who potentially wants to co-create other supporting heroes and villains with the rest of the group?
