While others eventually moved forward, a part of him continued to remain tethered to the memory of her, carrying both the pain and the lessons losing her left behind. He’d experienced loss before, but none that ever had any effect on him the way this one had. Maybe it’s the quiet familiarity with loss, coupled with his unwavering sense of duty, that made him an ideal vessel for a destiny he never could have imagined: becoming the successor to Hades, ruler of the Underworld and guardian of the boundary between life and death. Hades seems to have it in his mind that he’s perfect for the job.. we’ll see if the god of the Underworld was right in his choice.

Your first memorable original character?

I've made several different characters over the course of the nearly 20 years I've been roleplaying (I know, I'm old.).. but only three come to mind when I think of ones that stand out and truly mean something to me. My Romanian-descent demigod character Tyler James Rumancek, and later on, his two sons Nikolas ("Niko") Kanan and Aurelio ("Reli") Mihai.

Tyler James

I created Tyler back in early 2021.. he was the first male character that I ever fell in love with writing. Before him, I'd never really felt comfortable enough writing men. He was also somewhat of a self-insert before I ever realized I was trans. He embodied everything about me and my personality. The kind of guy I (hadn't realized at the time that I) wanted to be. Tyler was/is an AuDHD, deeply loyal, selfless, lover of horses pigeons and reptiles, dirtbike enthusiast, Star Wars/Harry Potter nerd who grew up with an amazing single mother... his dad was absent from his life (heh, shocker.. his father is none other than the messenger god Hermes himself!), so he was/is a complete momma's boy. Extremely monogamous. I allowed the influence of another writer (who had written his partner and mother of his children) to change his original character.. and though I do not entirely dislike what he became, I still would like the chance to write him the way I had originally intended now that that string is no longer tethered.

Nikolas Kanan

Niko was.. well, I'll admit. Niko's first name was hands down pulled straight from the PJO universe (even though Nico is spelled differently in the books.). I will admit to that x) And Kanan, well, that was from Star Wars.. but anyway. Niko was molded more around his mother's influence. Leaning more towards his Italian roots as opposed to his younger brother Reli who leaned more towards their father's Romanian roots. Did I mention their mother was the daughter of Hades? (Yes, I know. A bit on the nose for his name choice, as well. I KNOW!) Heh. Yeah. Legacies of both Hades and Hermes.. and again, Niko took after his mother more as far as his abilities and personality go. Very antisocial (just like me LMAO), art/photography buff, book lover, music enthusiast, awesome cook... Very much an older child. Micromanages his two younger siblings, constantly nitpicks at everything cause it's not perfect (the way he would do it) so he constantly has to do it himself and make it "right".. and though he loves his father, much like his dad, he is an absolute momma's boy. Niko is also gay. Now, I know what you're thinking.. "who cares, it's 2026". Well, I do. Because I believe we need more gay representation in literature/writing.

Aurelio Mihai

And then there's Reli... With his abilities, he took more after his father's side. As well as with his personality, though he is a bit more rugged around the edges.. really tries to hide the fact that he has such a big heart. Not afraid to get into a fight here and there (sometimes even starts them simply for the adrenaline rush). Absolutely LOVES horses. Another character that was strongly influenced by the previously mentioned writer and Reli's partner (2, actually.. for different storylines) they wrote for, and yet another character that I would love to be able to write for again untainted. In all honesty, I think Reli is more a self-insert than his father at this point. In an alternate universe where I'd been born a man, I probably would have turned out quite like Reli. That boy holds a special place in my heart.

Duuuuude.. I miss the old days of shifter RPs. They get dull after a while for most, unfortunately, but MAN were they fun. If I could go back to the 2010s again just to relive RPing back then... in a frickin heartbeat!
