I am making a few assumptions here. That is, that there are a bunch of NPC Magical Girls around. Is this accurate? If so, at least 85% of them should be neither monster/dark/horror nor Beacon.
Also, if I can't make that portal, tell me. But, I figured I probably could, I knew exactly where I wanted it, after all.
‘Oho! Someone’s looking at us!’ Deni smirked and looked through the portal on the wall to the other side.
‘... Onto the list she goes.’ Eli said, bringing up a pen and paper to inspect who it was that was looking and then write down her rough description. The one on a pillar of dirt. The pen simply floated inside Eli's wing as she wrote with it, and she was pretty proficient with using it like that.
‘Good job. Continue keeping a look-out.’ Eli said, putting down the pen and paper again. It was always a really good idea to keep track of those who could see through Deni and Eli’s magic.
Mariette listened to the arguments taking place outside. They were making her feel uncomfortable. She reached down on her right side and grabbed her big stuffed bunny, lifting him up to her lap and hugged him. For a while now, she could never become frightened. Asengav was too scary by comparison. But, discomfort was another matter altogether. Reminded her of the arguments of her parents…
Her eyes turned to the portal, gazing at the scene. Was there a consensus being reached? … Maybe. But, there was one thing that was bothering her. This whole discussion was taking place in between the monsters and Beacon. But they should just be vocal minorities. Also, fighting side-by-side with more Magical Girls did give a considerable advantage against their foes, she just had to ensure to choose the right moment to backstab. Mariette kept her eyes focused on a specific location and channeled her magic.
‘Oh. The mistress stirs.’ Deni commented, a bit wide-eyed, Eli’s attention also drawn. This was not a matter which Mariette had to ask them about anything, they were merely her minions. She drew power from the large mirror in the corner, as it stood there anyway. She channeled this into her hand-mirror, which she grabbed with her right hand while holding her stuffed bunny with her left arm, and she focused her power.
She had to focus for quite some time, because she wanted the ultimate precision for this. Her magic crept along a dimension separate to their own to open another portal. She knew where she wanted it. Mariette opened one of her mini-portals right inside Victoria’s ear, on the side which was away from Chloe. Wouldn’t necessarily disguise the use of magic, but it would make it harder to potentially interfere. The portal was simply to convey words. Had there actually been hostile intent, she’d had to pour much more magic into it, which Victoria would have noticed. As it was, however, it was for a friendly intention.
‘I accept your alliance.’ Mariette spoke silently into her hand-mirror, where in the center was the tiny portal that was on her end, her statement intent only to be heard by Victoria. Deni made a sharp intake of breath at the statement and smirked, Eli looking on intently. ‘Do not waste your time with monsters and Beacon. Their argument is of no concern to us. Appeal to the common Magical Girl. Get them to agree first, to pressure the other factions about that this alliance is real. Then, we can split Beacon and the monsters up, make an alliance with them separately. Beacon need never know.’ So she stated. If Victoria moved in any way that’d bring the portal out of her ear Mariette would immediately remove it, the same if anyone called attention to it.
@Delta44 If you didn't actually enter, tell me so, and I can change it. Other than that, yupp. Here's a guy.
@Rune_Alchemist *snicker* Make of this as you please. But, I do assume you'll want to avoid, somehow. And if not, heh, that's fine too, write it so, then.
@Eklispe@Pikmin Eye And, um, after some analysis of your semi-randomly generated encounter, I came to the conclusion that these opponents of yours don't stand the ghost of a chance to even touch you. So, I went ahead, there you go. My apologies if that was a little anti-climactic. XD
But, well. Now you're free to act again. Haha. Unless you want to do more with these two for whatever reason, that's always possible. If you don't agree with how that battle went, feel free to take it up with me. Otherwise, there you go. And... that's about that.
Laurinda, after having her sleeve tugged, stopped to look what the little girl wanted, and then gently sighed as she stopped to let Amelia go over to the group of Pumpkaboos.
When Amelia approached the Pumpkaboos, which were drifting in a specified direction, there was a sudden moment of confusion among the creatures. Some turned with interest towards Amelia, others were determined to drift onwards with whatever quest they had. Yet, they were also exceedingly determined to stay connected as a group. As such, when some stopped and other drifted on, the group stretched as many held onto one another to not part and they formed a long line from one which had stopped by Amelia and one that kept going, until finally the one who had kept going gave up and the whole group came springing back, flowing back towards Amelia, and the different sized pumpkins bounced onto one another and positively crashed into a pile at Amelia’s feet. Despite this, none seemed particularly troubled as the pile of pumpkins on different angles all turned to stare up curiously at Amelia.
‘Pum?’ ‘Boo?’ ‘Ka?’ ‘Ka?’ ‘Pumkaboo?’ Numerous curious calls came up at Amelia, but mostly it seemed they were like they were doing fairly fine.
After a discussion at the restaurant, where she likely had a long and nice conversation with Joshua and Ewan, Ren took her leave and Joshua waved enthusiastically telling her ‘until we meet again’ and Ewan wished her luck. Then, she moved on, seeking the gym…
There it stood. A big, fairly boring building. A four-story building, square in form with numerous banners hanging out, and an imposing sign hanging out at the front of the building. “POKÉMON GYM”… And at the front of the building sat a single sign with a little bit of information about the Gym.
Pureplain Pokémon Gym - Major League Gym Leader: Dorian “The Master of Normal”
But, she wasn’t the only one who was visiting the building. There were a couple of older human beings, presumably trainers were hanging out, not really doing anything. In fact, they were looking pretty drained. Pale, hanging over benches or leaning against walls, muttering incoherent sentences…
’What… happened…’
’That is so… unfair…’
’Oooooough… I thought I was Major League level… Just how big is the gap…?’
Well. Despite that, it appeared that the door, two double doors, was perfectly open. If she gathered the courage to enter…
The inside of the building was bigger than one could have thought. But, it felt a bit more like entering into an art-gallery than anything else. The place was clean, with a nice carpet leading inwards, there were fine paintings lining the walls and there were small tables with vases of varying sizes, colors and widths all over. It all looked exceedingly expensive. Along the same side-lines were numerous older men sitting politely, watching what was happening in the middle of the room. Because, despite the surroundings, there was a Pokémon battle going on.
'Go! Hitmonlee! Double Kick!' A young ace-trainer commanded, pointing forward with great passion, and his Pokémon obligued, springing forward its brown body on powerful legs towards its opponent.
Pokédex Entry #106 – Hitmonlee, the Kicking Pokémon. It’s legs can stretch and contract for considerable range and its balance means it can kick from any position. After a battle, it rubs its legs to relax the muscles and release the tension. It runs smoothly with long, loping strides.
The opponent... was a giant creature with enormous gut and blank stare, standing absently like a huge wall in front of the quick kicking Pokémon.
Pokédex Entry #143 – Snorlax, the Sleeping Pokémon. A very lazy Pokémon that typically only eats or sleeps. It is not satisfied unless it has eaten 900 pounds of food in a day, and after having consumed that it becomes lethargic and sleeps. Its stomach acids can dissolve any poison, so it doesn’t have to worry about what it eats.
The Hitmonlee flew forth to kick, when suddenly, with a speed that absolutely impossible with that size, the Snorlax just turned and smacked with a palm into the Hitmonlee's leg, and the suddenly wide-eyed Hitmonlee was sent scurrying off towards the side where it had to break its speed to not crash right into some price-less looking vases.
'Th-the heck!? Hitmonlee, use Low Kick!' The somewhat perplexed trainer commanded, and Hitmonlee quickly turned spinning swiftly and dodging low, way lower than the huge Snorlax's hands would be able to reach, and aimed what would be a super-effective move directly at the huge Pokémon's legs, and...!
The Snorlax casually lifted its leg and then stepped down with perfect timing to step its entire weight onto Hitmonlee's foot.
'LEEEEEEeeeeeeeEEEeeeEEEEEEE....!!??' The Hitmonlee cried out in sudden pain before the Snorlax intentionally let him go, the kicking Pokémon bouncing away from the Snorlax collapsing onto the floor. The trainer was left staring at the Snorlax, dumbfounded.
'How? Since the battle began, you haven't given a single command, yet each of your Pokémon took out mine as if it was sheer instinct.' The ace-trainer asked, his voice defeated. 'On top of that... I am pretty sure that Snorlax did it while completely asleep.'
There was actually sounds coming from the Snorlax's mouth that sounded strangely alike to quiet snooring, its eyes sure were closed and it was wobbling somewhat, but it had sure completely defeated that Hitmonlee.
'How?' The trainer asked again. A sound came from behind the Snorlax, and the Snorlax moved aside a bit to show the shape of a man, previously blocked from sight by the Snorlax's sheer width, but here he had started standing up. He had been seated behind a rotating panel, on which he had been shaping a vase from dirt. Because apparently, he had felt he had time to do such a thing while in battle.
'The question is not ”how did I do it”, the question is ”how will you overcome it”. Either case, do not gain that knowledge from me. I am a challenge to be overcome. Learn from today, and return when you feel ready to attempt taking me on again.' So said an older voice, filled with horrifyingly calm confidence, from a man with experience and class, a man whom had been collectively been agreed by the world of Isson to carry the name of ”Master”. This was Dorian, Normal-type Gym Leader of Pureplain City.
The trainer frowned, and then directed a finger forward in anger at the Snorlax.
'HIGH JUMP KICK!' He commanded, and the Hitmonlee's eyes suddenly burned with passion as it took its good leg and shot itself from the ground like a spring from it, and in mid air it was spinning around as to use the same good leg to deliver an immensely poweful kick at Snorlax. … The older trainer took a miniature sigh.
'Giga Impact.' With the command leaving Dorian's mouth, there was but the tiniest bit of movement. The much slower Snorlax somehow just slightly turned, the long kick of the Hitmonlee seeming like it would make a direct hit to the shoulder of the big Pokémon. Then, a blindingly fast burst of speed. The whole weight of the Snorlax had flown in as if projected into the body of the much lighter Hitmonlee, which absorbed the full force. The strike was so powerful that the room was briefly illuminated by a bright flash, from a physical blow. The aftermath of the blow saw Hitmonlee flying like shot out of a cannon straight into the wall right above the entrance where Ren just had come in from, so she might want to move because a fainted Hitmonlee would soon come falling down.
'A-aaaah...' And the trainer was totally dumbfounded, stumbling a few steps back, before spinning around, grabbing his Hitmonlee and then fleeing out the door. The older men that served as the audience provided a brief applause for their Gym Leader as Dorian returned Snorlax to his Pokéball. Notably, Snorlax was looking around a bit confused, having woken up when Dorian gave the command, automatically followed through with it by instinct, but now was confused as to where he was. The Snorlax vanished from view.
'So.' Dorian said, apparently not minding the sudden bulge outwards that had been caused to his wall above the entrance as he sat down to continue shaping the unfinished vase in front of him.
'What brings you to my humble gym, youngling?' Dorian asked, looking at his vase. … Despite never having acknowledged her existence with his eyes, it was pretty clear he was speaking to Ren.
Eugene had been told to wait, so he stood watching.
Yvonne blinked a little in surprise when she saw Claire kneel down to the dog-fairy-Pokémon hugging Yvonne's leg while Ralia was let out of her arms, and then Claire reached out to pet the Pokémon.
Now, two things happened at once that might save Claire some trouble. Ralia got one considerable forewarning from the sheer, terrifying, all-encompassing hatred that she all of a sudden blew across her emotional sensors. Secondly, there was the fact Yvonne suddenly shrieked at her.
‘DON'T!’ Yvonne cried out, and also quickly leaned foward with one hand lashing down to hit either Jeffrey's head or Claire's hand. Because the fact was that Jeffrey suddenly spun about in her direction, opened his mouth up wide with glaring loathing in his eyes as he bit at her hand.
By some manner of reflexes or interference Claire was spared having her hand bitten, Yvonne grabbing Jeffrey's forehead roughly and pulling him violently back while throwing her other arm around his stomach to keep him in place. Her eyes were kind of wide as she looked to Claire.
‘H-he's been trained to protect me! That is, supposedly, because he just seems to hate and attack everyone but me! I have NO idea what mom did to him to make him like this...!’ Yvonne seemed to have temporarily forgotten to act high and mighty as she tried to deal with the problem in her arms, trying to recollect Jeffrey's Pokéball while also holding him in place.
‘SNUBBULL!’ The Pokémon which the Pokédex had claimed to be friendly and affectionate barked at Claire, clearly showing his opinion about her.
It could also be noted that Eugene and three Skarmories suddenly stood a fair bit closer, Eugene looking a bit startled as he was now ready to attempt potentially intervening.
‘Ooooh? A Water and a Grass type...’ Larry commented with a confident smirk as he then looked down on his Geodude, proudly facing its opponents.
‘... Wait.’ And all of a sudden he realized what an exrutiatingly terrible situation he was in.
‘Poliwag! Jump in front of the Water-Gun and try to use Hypnosis on the Bulbasaur!’ Carol quickly commanded, and Poliwag was quick to jump forward, intent on following its trainers orders, turning to Bulbasaur with considerable speed and then somehow using Hypnosis, likely by somehow shaking its swirly stomach so it looked like it was spinning...
Didn't do <> <> to Bulbasaur. He proceeded to smack the Poliwag with a Vine Whip for the trouble, on Martin's command. The Poliwag cried out in distress and flew out of the way.
‘T-tackle the Wooper!’ Larry commanded, and the Geodude went flying at Wooper. Unfortunately, it couldn't reach in time before a sudden dose of water splashed across its face and the surprised Geodude could but stare at Wooper before it dropped onto the ground, doused and faited. And, um, the Poliwag had been hit from a Super-Effective move from a Pokémon of somewhat higher level, sooooooooo...
Martin and Dawkin were victorious! Martin and Dawkin each gained 455 P for winning!
Though, way too easy a battle to gain levels for.
‘... Uh. Hold on, hold on. What happened?’ Larry asked, bringing a hand to his forehead a little, looking at what just happened.
‘Time-out, time-out! Too fast! Too fast! Eh, uh. Did we win?’ A slightly confused Carol had to ask, waving her arms around trying to reassume control.
Yeah, um. Martin and Dawkin are free to continue their journey if they wish. Haha.
Route 2
Route 2 is the wetter alternative to the fairly dry and straight-forward Route 1. Dragon Lake naturally flows south, causing many rivers through Route 2 which lead on into Infested Woods, giving the woods all the water it needs to grow. The road forward is a more primitive gravel road, which in order to get to the mountain housing the Wet Caverns on the other side requires one to cross a number of bridges, and it’s near tradition that there’s at least one trainer waiting in ambush for any other trainer who desires to cross. But, Route 2 sees traffic from nature-goers, fishermen and so as well as trainers, giving possibilities to slip by if desired.
One step to the left and one has ended up in the wetlands of Route 2, drenched by Dragon Lake’s insistence on breaking into the ground. Large flowers and many bushes arise from these lands, the nature is lush and green. Although one might wish to pack an extra pair of boots if one intends to traverse the reaches, there are undoubtedly many wild Pokémon awaiting in the grass around. Quite a few other trainers seem to have thought this, as there are quite a few in various stages of Pokémon searching or battling. With the combination of water and grass, one can assume the kind of Pokémon one might encounter. In the distance, by the lake itself, stands a number of fishermen’s huts, for those interested.
To the right, instead, stands the imposing Infested Woods, which scare people by its name and promises of how terrifying it might be to wander deep, or maybe that’s just scary-tales from those who are scared to death by bugs. Regardless, it stands there, drinking deep from the waters provided by the rivers. One merely needs to break off from the path and then one will sooner or later be in the woods. It is an alternative way to the Wet Caverns that avoids the trainer-bridges, but the choice of where to go obviously falls on the trainers themselves. For the most obvious Pokémon, there are Pidgeys flying about, every here and there one carries a captured Weedle from the tall grass, which tries to sting back…
1. Find Pokémon. Can be specified what kind of Pokémon is being searched for, and how you search. 2. Train Pokémon. With this command, we can jump ahead in time and skip posting about grinding. 3. Seek trainers. There should be some here and there. Note, some may challenge you, regardless. 4. Talk. There’s some other travelers around. Maybe seek answers to any burning questions you have. 5. Move along. Move along normally, letting any events that may come happen naturally. 6. Hurry along. Intentionally avoid confrontations and try to get safely to the next destination. 7. Specify. If you specify what you want to do, the GM will take it into account and tell the result. 8. Trigger random event. Force the GM to use his imagination to make a scenario for you. 9. Area Specific: Fishermen Huts. See what the fishermen over there's got going.
Connected areas: Pureplain City. You’ve walked a bit now, but could get back without complication. Infested Woods. Close, can get there without complication. Wet Caverns. It’s a bit more, but you can likely get there without complication now.
Not doing anything yet. Just wanted to make a point of her proximity. It's not impossible to find the portal even if it is hidden by some darkness magic (since it's only hidden by MAG skill 7), if one REALLY felt like finding it, but there's a bunch of magical things here anyway so. Just reading the hider-title will do, honestly.
Inside what appeared to be an apartment with windows looking out over a city sat three girls at a table. In the corner stood a large, oval mirror, awaiting another day which it might be used for a portal or in a rite or so. Not today, however.
Two young twins who looked like harpies composed of black jelly and a white-haired girl in elaborate dress. They were having some tea and had sandwiches prepared for them on plates, which they were eating and drinking of. In the wall to their right was a tiny portal, shielded on the other side by the protective Darkness-magic of the twins so to protect it from detection, leading into a bush in Penrose Park. Through it, the three heard every somewhat loud word that was spoken.
‘Alliance, eh?’ Deni remarked with a smirk, stuffing her mouth full with a sandwich. ‘How cute. All the heroes rallying together against a common enemy!’ She laughed a bit, listening to the words coming through.
‘On a grander scale, there is no way any of the girls in this alliance will approve of our future goals. Joining might actually bring unwanted attention to our existence, which could make things difficult.’ Eli, the other twin, remarked, always so tactically minded. ‘However, joining could enable us to gain protection against the varying Beacon girls that have recently appeared in the city, and we could use such an alliance to make other girls unknowingly do work for us.’
‘Using others to get our way? I like it!’ Deni grinned a bit as she downed her tea. ‘But, that could cause quite the backlash when they realize what we’ve been doing~’ Deni cautioned with a playful voice.
‘At the same time, not being part of the alliance could hamper us in the future. We cannot deal with that many enemies, and with all honesty, we could use their help, even if they wouldn’t regularly help us. This alliance could be exactly what we need.’ Eli continued, considering deeply.
‘So, what say you, Champion of Asengav?’ Deni leaned forward, looking at Mariette. Eli did the same. After all, Mariette was the leader.
Mariette held a neutral expression as she placed down the tea onto the tiny plate. This food had been prepared for them by Joe when they said they had to go picnicking. It had been… a little bit of a lie. Still, it was really good. Mariette raised her eyes and looked at the two, black harpies that were holding their food and tea-cups in their slimy wings, somehow.
‘For now, we wait. We do not want to become representatives..’ Mariette said, in a mature but currently disinterested tone. They definitely didn’t want to attract more attention than they had to. So for now, they’d stay inside their interdimensional home, listening in on the conversation. The two monster girls nodded and they continued their midnight meal, their ears picking up the incoming conversation.
And, of course, the battle between monsters and Beacon was on at once, at least diplomatically speaking.
‘Oh, chucks.’ Deni commented. ‘I see the possibility for an alliance rapidly draining.’
‘For an alliance to form, likely either the monsters or Beacon have to pull away. If Beacon pulls away, it makes the alliance have to fight them due to having allied with the monsters.’ Eli commented, looking on. ‘Question is, if the alliance goes to the monsters, do we join?’
‘I think us joining would prove Beacon right~’ Deni said, playfully.
Mariette simply listened to both the chatter of those who spoke, and to that of her companions. She made sure to memorize names. Victoria, Ice Blue. A beacon girl, a loud girl and a girl compromising to a truce. Castor Kerberos, Tenebrae. Beacon girl that slandered Castor. … You’re looking in the wrong direction, Beacon-girl, Mariette thought. Though, of course, she wouldn’t know where to look or to point at the hidden portal, unless she had the Third Eye and considerable intuition. Unlikely.
Mariette kept listening, to see where this went. She had no intention of bringing any attention to herself just yet.
Age (Before Magical Girl): 4 (Horror doesn’t care.)
Gender: Female
Gender (Before Magical Girl): Female
Appearance: Mariette is a tall girl of slender but otherwise average frame. Her hair is long and white straight when transformed, blonde wavy when untransformed. She typically has a calm expression on her face. She tends to dress somewhat extravagantly, her transformed state wears elaborate black dresses while her untransformed self typically also endorsed herself with accessories. She’s often seen squeezing a large stuffed animal in the shape of a rabbit. Her right eye is constantly under an eyepatch, but she hasn’t actually lost it. There is a reason behind this.
Untransformed, she looks like a very regular blonde 15-year old, wearing glasses and regularly overdressing herself in hats and coats as well as generally gazing off into the vast distance with no purpose.
Specialization: Oddball: Portals. Mariette is a master of using portals. She’s immensely powerful with them, too. She can create them in mid-air, in varying sizes, around enemies and in varying kinds of movement. With as high magical power as she has, she can create her portals anywhere within her sight, but she has much greater fine-control of their movement the closer they were created to her. The portals are circular and flat, and lead to another portal of the same size she also has created within her range. The edges of the portals are solid and can be broken to destroy the portals.
With extended focus, she can also create portals to places much further away assuming she knows the location, and with greater use she can even enter alternative pocket-dimensions. She has no desire to leave this world behind, however. Also, if others flees through teleportation or to different worlds, Mariette may be able to follow them. Using a mirror as the base of the portal greatly amplifies the effect and makes rituals for more extreme portalling much easier. There are some major rituals which she can conduct using big mirrors for the sake of Asengav’s goals.
Weapon: Mystic mirror. It’s a simple hand-mirror that she can seemingly summon from nowhere into her hand. It helps creating portals around the area, and Mariette channels her magic through it.
Power: Tentacles. These are sentient tentacles sprouting from anywhere within a certain range around Mariette. These are a blessing given directly from Asengav, and they look pretty much like darkness given form. They’re powerful, regrow if they’re blasted into pieces and are Mariette’s main defense if the enemy tries to strike her in close combat. Herself, she has no ability in the close.
Perks: Gifted - The reason Asengav chose her in the first place. She can do things with her portals that other people perhaps would not be able to. She’s an expert at this. Interdimensional Home - Using her portals, she has set up her own little dimension that she can go to. It’s a nice place to hide, and she can feel comfortable there. There’s food and a view, but she does prefer Joe’s place. Blood Magic - Among other things, she was granted the ability to expand her own life as magic. Mariette will use this if the situation turns deadly. Overcity Shift - If she wants to, she can displace the entire area to a different dimension in the Overcity. There the battle can be conducted without destruction and so. Interdimensional Tourist - It’s Joe. Joe’s an average man with normal job, a stressful life and a licence as an interdimensional tourist. He helps Mariette and the twins out with food and give them a place to stay, for now. He just felt sad for Mariette once, and now he has three girls living off of him… Huh.
(now Emergency, +2 Combat Perks) Hammerspace Handbag - Which actually is a portal of hers. She just reaches into the portal, and she has everything she needs there. Good to have. Allies - Along with her transformation, Asengav saw fit to provide Mariette with two allies that should come in handy. A set of two twinned-souls monster-girls. (Now Gold coin for extra +2 Perks) Awareness - You’d think a girl with one eye would see worse, wouldn’t you? Wrong. There’s something about Mariette that makes her excessively perceptive of things around her, and she just knows. Even when ambushed she seems to be able to block the attacks. Absolute Direction - With destination or object in mind assuming she knows about it in detail, Mariette knows which direction it is. … REALLY useful for a girl that can open long-range portals with enough focus. Bad at finding concepts or nonspecific things.
Patron: A Horror named Asengav. Not really his name, but as best and easiest we can pronounce it.
Patron Benefits: Minions - They’re shaped like men and look like they’ve been drawn with ink, and they’re strong and can lash out at unexpected ranges with stretchy arms. They’re weaker than magical girls, but they can take one by surprise. They can be summoned through Mariette’s portals when Asengav has been kind enough to put them at Mariette’s disposal. Retrieval - Asengav has no intention of losing his chosen champion. If Mariette is in trouble and he has a moment to, he’ll strike open a portal and retrieve her before she’s done for. Mystic Might - Asengav has provided Mariette with a bit of extra magical might, and... Mana Font - … he has also given her a small portal in her heart to a great reserve of mana, for her to use as she sees fit.
Patron Drawbacks: Mind-Bent - Mariette is completely unable to not follow the orders of her patron. The very idea of opposing her chief causes an immediate major dose of terror and struggle to keep coherent. If she ever left Asengav’s care, she’d be left a quivering mess in her bed, forever unable to move unless someone bent back her mind. Also, there has been a SERIOUS impact to her personality. Insomnia - Can’t sleep, won’t sleep. She clutches her favorite bunny every night trying to sleep, and she absolutely can’t sleep a wink without it. Bane - Something as simple as a lit wax candle. A lit candle symbolises the hope in the darkness, and it sends Asengav scurrying. Similarly, unlit candles make Mariette uneasy, but lit ones can effectively make her flee in terror. But, they must be kind of small. People holding wax candles will be unaffected by her portals. Also, broken mirrors. A broken mirror cannot be used for rituals, and it sends fear and pain through Mariette to even see one. The greatest tool for her portals, the mirror, can so easily become her bane by merely shattering the mirror. So Mariette has to live. Health Sapping - So much power is poured into Mariette, with the tentacles, minions, and so, that her movements and physical efforts are somewhat blocked.
Fighting Style: First things first. That eye-patch? That’s to ensure her enemies don’t realize her right eye is constantly looking through numerous portals. She switches the location and number of these portals as she needs to, inspecting the battlefield from varying points, gathering information from a bird’s eye view. It’s imperative that a portal-girl is constantly aware of the positions of everyone, after all, and this allows her to widen the range of where she can open portals quickly as she needs vision to open them. The portals are so tiny, you’d never usually detect it, even with awareness. … Someone with the Third Eye likely would, though.
Mariette does not fight in close combat. When she fights, she prefers to do so behind the minions of her patron. From there, she can support them in an excessive amount of ways with her portals. She can create them as shields that then redirect the attacks at her enemies. She can slap a portal onto someone and send them into compromising situations or place them really far away. She can open portals for her attacks to come from unexpected directions.
For actual fighting, Mariette uses her tentacles. They’re strong tendrils of darkness that constantly surround her in battle. They’re strong with plenty of range, but the average magical girl would be able to keep them at bay. … Which is why Mariette often sends them through portals to attack from unexpected angles and from longer range than expected. Portals make no sound as they’re created, after all. She makes them squeeze and crush enemies from afar. In close combat she can also use better fine-control of portals to trap limbs and halt an enemy’s progress. That’s her last defense.
She doesn’t really have much high-power attacks of her own, but her portals are there to ensure the enemy never get close. She likes to team up with Deni & Eli to make them shoot into the skies through her portals or send them into combat supported by portals. She can easily change her own location as well by just walking through a portal herself. But, she’s not fast. Mariette sometimes also risks that enemies try to use her own portals to fire upon her. She simply has to ensure that doesn’t happen. Those are her tactics.
Personality: Mariette carries herself like an extremely calm older girl, her expression remaining neutral and her force remaining intentful. She’s determined to achieve her goals, and may come across as rather arrogant. She’s playful around official matters but merciless in action. She often acts in a creepy way that seems to tell that not everything is all there. However, that isn’t all there is to her. She finds any small animals or stuffed such animal mind-bogglingly adorable. She wants to try every new experience she can notice, from singing to roller-coasters to arcade machines, wearing accessories and going to school, such. She rarely has the money to try anything, however. But, so it is.
Also, good luck trying to scare her. She’s been in contact with Asengav, she won’t even react to what the regular public might think is scary or repulsing. Like someone’s sudden death, or so.
History: There was an emergency. Except, the emergency wasn’t really one which four year old Lina Herring could do anything about. See, she had an abusive father, and she could see the incoming signs the moment she heard him enter the house and start yelling at her mother. So, she fled. Somehow, she managed to escape without father noticing. She fled, and never wanted to return. On that route, she came across an emergency. That is, an emergency for her.
An unspeakable horror dived onto her, enveloping her. Her magical potential must have appealed to him, and with that he took her over and transformed her into the kind of girl he wanted her to be. As far as anyone else knows, Lina Herring either died or was kidnapped that day. It took quite some time, a number of years as the horror was reconstructing her to suit his needs, but one day a girl walked out into the world again. A Magical Girl, significantly older than Lina had been, this one known as Mariette Pedersen. A fake name, of course, but as it is that’s how it goes.
Incantation: In a world without meaning, exists a purpose with destination, and I will see it to its end. The gate is open.
Additional Info: As said before, mirrors help amplify her portal might. This is actually why she wears glasses in her untransformed state. She can, without rousing suspicion, easily make portals in her glasses to look at something from a great distance.
Also, friendly tip. Mariette’s usually really calm, and won’t even bat an eye if you decapitate someone in front of her. But, if you really want to kick a puppy, or harm any small adorable animal, don’t do it in front of Mariette. Hell feels bad for those who do.
Names: Deni and Eli.
Names (Before Magical Girls): Denise & Elizabeth Walton
Age (Magical Girl): 7
Age (Before Magical Girl): 15
Gender: Female
Gender (Before Magical Girl): Female
Appearance: Underdeveloped/Skimpy They’re amorphous harpies. Body-wise they’re absolutely identical, but they’ve put effort into looking different. Deni has used her amorphous properties to give herself a chest, because hilarity and pride. Eli finds that pointless. Both of them however find pleasure in ornaments, wearing them in their hair and clothing. Otherwise, both are short girls whose bodies are largely composed of black jelly that typically are shaped like wings, their eyes looking very creepy and unnatural. … It should also be noted that their jelly is partly see-through and skin-tight, so one can kinda see the shapes of their gelatinous bodies through, which is why it qualifies as skimpy.
Deni to the left, Eli to the right.
When untransformed, Deni still likes to wear little dresses and make herself look pretty. Eli, on the other hand, wears a uniform fit her age to blend in and wears a pair of glasses to further hide herself. Neither has horns or anything monster-like which it looks like in the below image. They look considerably normal for their age.
Eli to the left, Deni to the right.
Specialization: Reinforcement and Darkness.
Reinforcement means the two of them can block attacks with barriers, enhance the items or bodies of others as well as heal wounds. They can remove curses and other negative energies, and in addition their disguised human forms are a bit tough and their words of encouragement have an intoxicating effect.
Darkness means the two of them can shield themselves from detection as they use their wings to glide through the night. They can see in the dark, and make themselves temporarily intangible as well as warp themselves short distances between shadows. They can also place minor curses and negative effects on areas and people.
Weapon: Melee/Ranged. That is, they don’t actually carry weapons. However, they can combine their magic with their amorphous bodies to suddenly form swords, pikes, axes, sharp feathers, guns and similar things, the ranged weapons powered by their own magic to fire. These weapons are not powerful, but the weapons the two can produce this way can be really adaptable to what is need at that moment, and can emerge from any part of their bodies.
Power: Twinned Souls/Third Eye. The only thing that differs between the two magic-wise is their powers. Deni has a mental link to her sister, and can alert Eli to her location once a day and Eli will automatically know where to go. Meanwhile, Eli has a special sight called the Third Eye, allowing her to see the flow of magic, straight through illusions and see traces of past magic having been used in areas. Mariette has use of them both.
Perks: Dual Weapon - The girls have mastered the arts of making ranged weapons out of their amorphous bodies as well as firing these with their mana as ammunition. Wings - They’re fluid harpies. Somehow. They can’t actually fly as well as birds, but they sure can climb, jump and glide around. Martial Training - They’re accomplished in a very wide variety of weapons to go with their ability to form weapons on the go. They’re also quite tactically gifted and could handle commanding armies. Flexibility - They’re fluid and adaptable, amorphous. While they normally look like supported by bones, they can suddenly curve in impossible ways when the current amount of flexibility just didn’t cut it.
Monster Girls: To summarize, they’re amorphous harpies that have wings, yet they’re much more slime-creatures than they are harpies. They make use of this every way they can. Nonstandard Limbs - Their limbs are slimy harpy things. Though, given that their wings are slime, they can still hold things. Devourers - There’s a certain hunger within them, which could make them attack humans if they’re not properly fed with meat. Mariette ensures to always keep a significant amount of meat in her Hammerspace Handbag just in case. Amorphous Body - They’re liquid harpies. Their forms are difficult to injure, their fluids can make their bodies contort when they don’t feel like looking like they do, and so on. There’s a ton of consequences. Second Specialization - Aside from natural Reinforcement, Asengav has given them the gift of Darkness to add to their magical arsenals. The two are very efficient spies, because of this.
Patron: Asengav, horror.
Patron Benefits: Takes One To Know One - There are two parts of Asengav’s power. The portals and the darkness. Deni and Eli are literally dripping with the darkness to their cores, and this has consequences. They feel the same energy if exposed to it in others. This allows Deni and Eli to see through the disguises of monsters and detect Horror champions should they touch or meet eye-to-eye. If they have a bane, they also get a rough idea of what it might be. Genki Girl - Deni only. As Mariette’s scout, Deni’s filled with insurmountable amounts of energy and fortunately finds stealth-missions fun, and she can stalk targets for days upon end without getting tired or bored. It does mean that not actually doing anything engaging bores her extremely fast, now, but that was sincerely always the case. She’ll also never get tired mid-battle. Retrieval - As with Mariette, should any of the two of them end up in mortal danger and it has the time to spare, Asengav might reach out through a portal and save them. Might. It’s a multidimensional being with plenty of other things on its mind. Saving underlings is significantly less important than saving champions. If they’re lucky, with other words. Magical Overload - They’re amorphous harpies.
Patron Drawbacks: Insomnia - With a horror as their patron, neither of the two monster girls have an easy time falling asleep. Something’s always clawing at their minds, whispering horrendous nothings, giving them terrible dreams when they do fall asleep. Neither of the two seems to ever want to go to sleep, staying up playing games or stalking targets outside, and this is a large part of that. But eventually, they have to… Mind-Bent - Deni and Eli are both as mind-manipulated as Mariette. They think they’re following Mariette out of their own free will, but they’re really not. Their minds have a compulsion to follow Asengav and their current leader, Mariette, and although they can disagree with commands they can never even consider going against the cause. Any notion of such will send a pang of pain through their heads, punishing them for even thinking the thought. Should they ever fall out of favour with their horror overlord, they’ll find themselves quivering wrecks huddling forever in fear unless someone bends their minds back. Bane - While Mariette is affected by both lit wax candles and cracked mirrors, Deni and Eli are more or less immune to the cracked mirrors. This is because they have no portal or dimension-travelling abilities of their own, which the cracked mirror bane is linked to. However, a lit wax candle is the bane of the darkness of Asengav, which Deni and Eli are the personifications of. The slightest light of such a candle or the smell of wax in their noses will cause burning pain, forcing them to flee. Being locked inside a room with lit wax candles will burn them alive and cause their amorphous bodies to melt. A much more extreme reaction than that which Mariette experiences. Monstrous Form - They’re amorphous harpies.
Fighting Style: As stated before, they’re amorphous harpies. Compared to other magical girls, Deni and Eli aren’t very powerful, but they’ve got considerable adaptability. Their wings and their fluid bodies allow them to swirl around, and their ability to form hard melee blades or ranged weapons that can shoot out of their bodies can very easily take an enemy by surprise. Being fluid, they’re difficult to hurt and are quite flexible. They dance on the battlefield and take out enemies one at a time.
They don’t necessarily belong on the battlefield alone, though. With Darkness magic, they make sneaky attacks that the enemy don’t see coming as they’ve hidden themselves, and with Reinforcement they can power themselves up to match stronger enemies or heal damage they take. They remove curses from themselves with Reinforcement and then put curses on their enemies with Darkness up close. But, the typical magical girl should be able to fight both of them, they’re not that strong.
When they REALLY become deadly is when they’re matched up with Mariette, with portals on their side. Then they can dive through portals, shoot through portals or be defended by portals, greatly amplifying their effectiveness. Yupp.
Personality: Deni’s an excited person who wants to head out and do things, beat down the head of the one who’s in her way and quickly turns angry if things don’t go her way. Eli’s an apathetic loner who prefers to have everything under control and is shy among people, and would much rather engage her time daydreaming or painting or so, and is fairly accomplished in video-games and has talents Deni never had. This caused a lot of clashes when they were one and the same as Deni forced Eli into situations where Eli had to use her greater skill and focus to get out of trouble Deni put them in, and to counter Eli intentionally put Deni in challenging situations requiring Eli and the two squabbled a lot.
They’re inseparable and love one another now that they’ve got bodies of their own, though. They help each other out and can now let the other do as they please while they themselves take things in their own speed. Too bad about that deal with Asengav, though.
History: Something went very wrong when Denise Walton was born. Because, somehow, she was born with two consciousnesses in her mind, which switched often. To make things easier, the other personality was called Elizabeth. They were two personalities in one body. Not unheard of, but they were constantly messing up for one another as one was shier than the other. The years went by, and there didn’t seem to be any way to solve this. The two girls in the same body felt panicked, and prayed to the heavens out of stress that something would come and solve their predicament. Unfortunately, something heard them.
Asengav approached them, feeling that the two personalities had been caused by a considerable base of mana. He offered them a way out, and they agreed. Deni and Eli were then formed, split in two and given half the age of each, and they’ve been trained to follow Asengav’s commands and now follow Mariette on her mission. As simple as that.
Incantation: Deni - Fate and cruelty, envelop our reality, guide the way to inevitable destruction! Deni! Here I go! Eli - Love and passion, squander our lives, make us fight for meaningless ambitions! Eli! Here I go!
Both - Fate and Cruelty, Love and Passion, Envelop Our Reality, Squander Our Lives, Guide the Way, Make Us Fight, To Inevitable Destruction, For Meaningless Ambitions! Deni and Eli! Here we go!
Additional Info: They have quite different interests. Deni can sometimes be seen in the park or in school playgrounds, playing with the kids around because it’s fun, and then perplex teachers as that’s not their kid. Eli can sometimes be seen in arcades owning the heck out of anyone challenging her or her high-score, and she’s totally calm and cool about it, too. Deni laments that her body’s perpetually 7 years old, she can’t seduce guys like this. Eli’s totally fine with this, and privately wants to make it big as a competitive gamer or an author. Deni will happily remind that becoming famous in their condition would be a terrible idea. Eli then gets depressed.
Type: Horror
Name: Unpronounceable, but we call him Asengav.
Patron Benefits: Creeping Doom - Cannot attract extreme attention. He has a carefully laid out plan, and it’s going to be executed, one step at a time. They’re less likely to be lethal and uncompletable for Mariette. Reasonable - As disturbingly horrifying as he is, Asengav is reasonable. He has been watching humans and magical girls for a long time. He knows how to blend in. He can even take the form of a human to hold a simple conversation. He does not intend on destroying the world, thank god, because he probably could. Retrieval - Asengav has invested a lot in his champions. If they find themselves in trouble, he can reach out through a portal and bring them back into safety. He can, that is.
Patron Drawbacks: Quick-Tempered - He’s only reasonable up to a certain point. Mess up a single part in his carefully laid-out plan… and watch the nightmares overcome you. Bane - A simple lit wax candle keeps Asengav from affecting an area. If he’s after you, you’re pretty much dead… if there aren’t lit wax candles inside your house. He avoids those. The smell of burnt wax… it repulses him… Also, a broken mirror. It sends shivers through him. Can’t be used. Trying to use a broken mirror for portalling is like trying to press through a corridor of razor-sharp blades.
Personality: Asengav’s a perfectionist horror. It has a master-plan in place, and it will follow it to the letter. As for the rest… who really knows. He’s very calm for a monstrosity that can drive you insane with his mere presence. When he peeks at the world, he often does so through mirrors. They somehow work well with his dimensional magic. So if you glimpse something that really, REALLY shouldn’t be there in the mirror, but look again and it isn’t there… it is quite possible Asengav might have been watching you.
History: For all we know, this horror simply was. One might claim it was somehow formed when countless dark sorcerers from a hundred billion realities committed the same atrocious dark ritual in the same location in many universes, sending all the magical energy spiraling into one location in the multiverse and bringing a horrific entity to life… but that’d just be theorizing, because nobody knows. What we do know, is that its name is unpronounceable. We know it can travel through dimensions at will, and is investing into monsters and girls in many, many different alternate versions of the same reality, influencing each in a tiny way to tip them all away from one another and then watch to see what happens.
As for what he wants with this reality… … … … … Who really knows…?
Resources: An important thing to note about Asengav is that he has invested in many different dimensions, throughout multiple different possible realities. While in the world which Mariette wanders she and her two allies are his only agents, across the multiverse he has many, many more monsters and minions doing their work.
And, um. Asengav does have coins, but you’re expected to work for him because you’ll die if you don’t. You know the skill, Absolute Direction? Yeah. Asengav… has that. Across multiverses. You do not escape Asengav if he has decided to hunt you. And, honestly, he can do much worse things than simply kill you. Muuuuuuuch worse.
One thing he does provide is giant mirrors for the sake of some of the rituals that he wants his followers to conduct for him. They greatly amplify his power, after all.
