Inside a dimensional apartment, a meeting was taking place discussing crimes against common sense.
‘Anastasia and Lapis are scouted and judged worthy of kidnapping!’ Deni smirked happily as she concluded her report on two Magical Girls that she had been stalking, and Eli was writing notes on them.
‘Good. So, we strike at Anastasia during the day, since she's the only Magical Girl in the area active during daytime, and Lapis we'll deal with in twilight when she heads back to her country-side village after having been active in the big city.’ Eli nodded at her notes, before taking a new note and passing it to Deni. ‘Here's another girl. She calls herself Uberos Antique, Darkness-mage, real name Brittany Carroll. She's a stealth-expert, but I found where she lives, you should be able to find her there.’
‘I'm gonna stalk a stalker, eh.’ Deni smirked at this as she took Eli's note. ‘Going to be tricky. I like it, sounds fun. Leave it to me!’ She then grinned as she started reading the note and took in the information she needed.
‘...’ Mariette sat, clutching her bunny, staring at the two harpies that were discussing the matter of kidnapping girls. They had become quite efficient at this. But, something had started to bother Mariette. Something which she was going to voice now. ‘Our real goal. Have you found anything, Eli?’ She asked, slight irritation in her voice. Eli more than Deni should be scouting for that.
Deni and Eli both flinched a little. Deni could but smile awkwardly and look down, her hands were tied since all her hours were currently required for scouting out targets for kidnapping. Eli, on the other hand, was supposed to search for both. Eli, looking a bit worried, looked to Mariette and spoke.
‘I'm looking. However, Magical Girls consider themselves the apex predator of this system. They do not hide, and are as such very easy to find. Predators do not worry about themselves the same way. It is much harder, finding our prey...’ Eli told her, though it all sounded like avoiding the issue to Mariette. ‘I've been looking, but without much success.’ She concluded.
Mariette nodded, dissatisfied. ‘Continue, but keep this in mind.’ She eventually settled on. The girls then continued overlooking their notes, until...
Mariette heard a familiar sound coming from the top of her nightstand, and looked to see that the black crystal shimmered. It could only mean one thing; She wanted to speak to her. Picking it up, she then saw how Justine's projection of a fiery eye formed. Her voice once again resounded through the space the eye-patched girl and her two minions occupied.
"Greetings, Reflective Witch. How has the procurement of the vessels been? I assume you have had no difficulty completing your given task?"
Deni and Eli both flinched when the sound came, while Mariette simply remained calm and stood up to go and pick up the crystal with her right hand while her left yet clutched the stuffed bunny. She listened to the voice, and then responded.
‘The delivery of Magical Girls will be ready at the appointed time.’ Mariette simply told. There had been a minor... complication during the procurement of a particular specimen, but Mariette saw no need to mention that particular event.
"Excellent. Now then, I will specify the next vessel which you will acquire; bring me a magical girl of the Beacon, from Penrose and unharmed. This matter is of utmost importance, so you will be compensated accordingly. Understood?"
‘...’ So, Mariette had intentionally avoided taking anyone from Beacon, because of their unity. She also avoided taking too many from Penrose, so someone keeping track of who had been kidnapped couldn't find their base of operations there. But... one girl could be acceptable. Mariette didn't really like it, but she could do it. And at this point, not displeasing Justine was a priority. There were limits to what she would do, but...
‘Understood. I can do that.’ She answered after a few seconds of pause. ‘Do you want her delivered ahead of time?’ Mariette asked, since there seemed to be a specific purpose behind this one.
"Yes...Bring her as soon as you can. As for the rest of the vessels you have collected so far, you may bring them at the same time as well. We shall meet at the underground parking lots. Any other questions?"
Mariette considered briefly. ‘Among the girls delivered, there is at least one with Enhanced Transformation and similar tricks. Personally, I do not have the means to restrain all of them if placed back into this world all at once. Should I assume you have the means to handle them?’ She asked.
‘... Will Caroline be joining us?’ She added on the end.
Justine giggled. "Of course. If they are within reach, then we shall have no difficulty receiving them." She then turned silent at the second question, the eye closing and opening. "Why do you ask?"
Mariette was silent for numerous more seconds after Justine asked that question, needing to consider the reason herself.
‘I promised her to provide her with long-haired dolls. If she was there, I could prove to her directly that I have delivered upon my promise.’ She said. Then continued. ‘It is of no consequence if she's not there. It was merely a thought of idle curiosity which occurred to me. There are no problems. The girls will be delivered on time, with a Penrose Beacon girl in front.’ Mariette reaffirmed, to dismiss any suspicion or animosity which may have followed her question.
"Hmm...Is that so?" Justine pondered, her flaming eye looking her over. "But you do make a good point. I will ensure that my sister is present for the exchange, so that she may evaluate the goods. Thank you for your immense consideration. Now then, until we meet, goodbye~" And then, the crystal shut down; Mariette felt as if her question would have consequences, but she couldn't tell what exactly at the moment.
‘...’ Mariette stayed silent as the crystal shut down. Okay, Caroline would now be there. Hm. ... ... ... Well, no time to think excessively about that. She turned to her underlings. ‘Deni, Eli.’
‘Yes!’ ‘Here!’ Both girls had been listening intently and now both looked at their mistress with wide eyes.
‘We are to capture a Penrose Beacon girl. Eli. You have them all documented, correct?’ Mariette asked her Third Eye scout.
‘Of course. All in my notes.’ Eli confirmed, taking her notebook and holding it up for view. It wasn't very detailed notes, some didn't even have their names recorded, but all that Eli had confirmed were in the city.
‘Good. Deni?’ Mariette turned her eyes to her Genki, tireless scout.
‘Leave it to me!’ Deni grinned and saluted with her slimy wing. ‘I'll find you the easiest, juiciest target~!’
‘With long hair?’ Mariette questioned.
‘With LOOOOOOOOONG hair~!’ Deni giggled as she affirmed.
Mariette nodded to her and the planning of their most recent and most special abduction would now take place. Oh, yes. It would be fun to venture off to capture someone their planning had previously marked as off-limits...
And I reaffirm, the reason you weren't told to wait, was because there was no reason to wait. More like, I went to t2wave and Shifter_Master over PMs and was like "can we PLEASE have this happen some day prior" after I heard of your wish was going to happen and, yeah. There should be no clash. And if Eli's confronted now in the past, she's going to just bolt in terror, to ensure there will be no clashes. Yupp.
... So nobody try capture her in the past or something like that, please. XD
@BrokenPromise Nope. No need. The reason nobody told you to wait was because there was no reason to. It's just a scene I personally wanted Eli to experience sometime prior. Everything is juuuuuuuust fine.
Edit: "OTL"? One True Love? No, that doesn't seem right...
There we go. That was... a little something I wanted to have happened, preferably before that wish was made, hence the "prior" notice. Tell me if there's any problems.
A number of days ago, PRIOR to the Djinn Sisters’ entrance to Penrose, in an adjacent town…
Eli was scouting, as she was doing occasionally. First she had been properly fed by Mariette so that her Devourer trait was held in check, and then she went out. She flew across different towns, gliding from building to building disguised by her Darkness magic, using her Third Eye to identify Magical Girls and seeking them out. She’d then spy on them for long enough to identify their specialization, write it down in her notes, and then be on her way again. It was then Deni’s job to investigate closer. However, this one time…
The dark liquid harpy landed on a building and looked down at two transformed sisters. She knew at a glance they were Twinned Souls, just like herself and Deni. However, apart from that she needed to identify their specialization. So she stalked them, keeping at adequate distance while hidden by darkness. Of course, Sakura had the Third Eye herself and could identify that they were being followed, but nonetheless… in the event she wasn’t somehow deterred from her stalking and was able to see them using their Wish magic, and the Third Eye told what it was.
‘W-wish!?’ Eli’s eyes widened and she flinched at this knowledge, stumbling back from the edge of the building. Such magic… it existed? Eli was overcome by thoughts of how amazing that was and what it could be used for. In what possible ways could that be used to further Asengav’s ambition? O-or… HER ambition? Wait, what was her ambition? Her desire had always just been Mariette’s best, but with this, Eli’s mind wandered. What would she wish for herself? Maybe… just maybe… She could use this to get free of-
‘AAAH!!?’ A searing pain went through her head, and Eli collapsed on the roof, her wings reached up to her head as her liquid body hit and partly splattered across portions of the rooftop before sliding to reconvene at the slime-girl. She stared into the sky with horror, and could swear she saw Asengav itself glaring down at her, despite that she was pretty sure Asengav had no eyes and wouldn’t bother with someone as tiny as herself. It was a hallucination from the pain, but… It hurt, it hurt so much, Asengav’s magic punishing the girl for even thinking of her own freedom.
The pain eventually went away, Eli clutching the rooftop while breathing heavily and flailing from residue pain. Th-that was… unbearable. What had she been doing? Oh, yeah, Eli reminded herself, she had been thinking of the two sisters, and their Wish magic, and how she could use it to-
‘A-AAH…!!’ Just reminding herself of why she had felt the pain sent another surge of pain through her head, and Eli rolled, sprawling on the rooftop with her amorphous fluids splattering around her because she lost control of it with the pain. … She inadvertently hurt herself several more times, as soon as the pain vanished she reminded herself of why it had happened, and another episode of the searing pain in her head returned.
Finally, after having repeated the same loop of pain and reminder multiple times, Eli taught herself not to think. She was left gasping with her head feeling like it had burst open, clutching the rooftop and lying face-down, the slime of her body that she had thrown around her in the pain moving to reconverge with her because it was still part of her body. Okay. Do not think of their powers, do NOT think of their powers… Eli told herself.
She slowly stood up, hiding herself with darkness magic again. Her gaze lifted, she just got a signal from Deni that she should reconvene at their base of operations, probably to go snag a girl. Of course, then she also had to tell them about her findings…
‘Ngh…’ She knew exactly how Mariette would react. Those two’s existence… was unacceptable. Using mere wishes, someone could undo their entire plan from a distance. It was unpredictable and dangerous. Even if Mariette made use of their services before doing it, Mariette was probably going to hunt them down. And then, the chance of Eli using them would be gone forever…
She felt it threaten. Not telling Mariette would go against the cause. It was a threat to the whole plan. If she was still going to consider hiding this, she would be subjected to-
‘NO.’ Eli declared, and a part of her fluid brain rearranged itself, bending with Darkness magic. She issued herself a mental block, a curse that she could only use on herself. She breathed out calmly, staring ahead. ‘This is not against the cause. Those two are indifferent to our actions, and will have no impact on our mission. Telling my mistress about them is a waste of time. I am not going to waste my mistress’ time, because doing that would be against the cause.’ So she said, using her own bent mind to convince herself. As no surge of pain came, she nodded, satisfied.
Eli threw a last glance down at where the sisters had previously been, before the slimy harpy turned, intending to leap off the edge and spread her wings to glide back to Mariette under the cover of Darkness magic… … …
@Joshua Tamashii I'm a little bit confused. Anyways, here's the map I made. Bottom left.
So, the Silent Shrine lies in the midst of the Silent Forest. You're currently on Route 1. The usual path to the Silent Shrine is from the small road breaking off from the bottom of Route 3. To get to the Silent Shrine from Route 1, you need to breach some of the roadless part of Silent Forest. Certainly doable and likely a lot wilder, but not as easy as taking the man-made road. Also, you might actually miss the shrine on that route, as you might lose track of how far you've gone within the forest. Well, um. Anyways.
@Pyromaniacwolf Alright, nicely posted. You're heading back, the other two heads forward. @Eklispe@Pikmin Eye Just to check, but you're both alright with Lucian splitting off, or are you going to change your action because of this? ... And Pikmin, which two people are you wishing to catch up to? I must admit I got a little confused there. Oh, well.
@Joshua Tamashii Ooooh, so you're heading towards Silent Shrine... THROUGH the Silent Forest? ... Heh. Well. Alright, then. I will mention that the road to the Silent Shrine is from Highhill Town, that's the intended actually made route which is likely easier to navigate than just pushing on through sheer forest. You're going off the recommended routes on that one. Or did you intend on taking that route, just not entering Highhill Town? I think I want a little clarification. Regardless. Nicely posted.
