Aegislash made one last gesture to Amelia for gratitude and then she was on her way again. Jonas was in position to escort a confused and dazed boy home from the tomb, and that was that, with all hope. She made her way back across the desert, managing to avoid getting into trouble, and also made it back to Raremine Town without any issues.





Connected areas:
Route 6. The Vast Plains open up to the north of Raremine. The shorter paths lead to Route 8 and 16, while west far enough leads to Lakewatch Town.
Route 7. The single rocky desert of Isson, it connects to the Desert Mines, the Old Tombs and to the Mythic Oasis.



In any case. Amelia heads for the Bug Garden after resting for a while. She intentionally went to check on the Shedinja…

So, Celebrity hid somewhere while the rest did their best to act natural. A couple of coins were left on the ground, and it didn’t take too long for a Murkrow to notice. A Murkrow blinked as the coins were located, so the bird swooped in-!

And landed on a building overlooking the area, looking about. Seems he was a bit suspicious. Wasn’t this just a tad, little bit convenient? … Hm. … Nope, too suspicious, and aware of that there were in fact awake trainers nearby. Murkrow waved his wings and flew-

-unknowingly straight over Celebrity’s hiding spot, where she promptly started singing to him. Murkrow spun, trying to avoid, but unfortunately it didn’t roll Insomnia (which was an option for Murkrow) and as such collapsed in a pile a bit further away. Celebrity shot a Disarming Voice at Murkrow, doing significant damage, and also woke the Murkrow up!

Murkrow got up and tried to dart away, but before the black bird could, Skylar threw a Pokéball! The night did not decrease Skylar’s accuracy in the slightest!

The Murkrow panicked, trying to flee, so Skylar was forced to catch him while he was awake, but given the considerable damage Celebrity had done… Murkrow was absorbed into the ball, which fell onto the ground.

So, the battle began, and Erza sent out both Shadowfang and Princess at once, and-

‘Wait, hold on, it’s a double battle-?’ Charline asked, in surprise, because she’d totally sent out both her Pokémon only so that they’d be seen, still intending that it’d be one-on-one after that, but-

‘SURE! DOUBLE BATTLES, GO!’ Hector didn’t even hesitate.

‘Gah!’ Charline recoiled a little, then grinned. ‘Well, gotta adjust my strategy a bit, then!’ Because double Bide is NOT A GOOD STRATEGY.

She does, however, still command Throh to use Bide when she realizes a Gust is heading for him. Meditite, however…

‘Meditite! Power-up Punch the Pooch! You can win that!’ Charline commanded, and Meditite hovered forth at Shadowfang, while Throh was charging Bide at Princess. Shadowfang would still be able to get off the Howl, increasing his attack, but perhaps Charline’s change of strategy will cause one in Erza as well?

Meditite is going to charge Shadowfang, trying to Detect at bites and trying to Power-Up Punch when given an opportunity. Meanwhile, Throh is going to try to Bide Princess, and after that attempt to run after her for Power-Up Punches.

After that!

Summer proceeded to make a harsh sunlight inside the dark dojo!

‘Gah! B-Boss, it’ll be dangerous to train in this sunlight! We’ll dehydrate!’ a Black Belt called.

‘POWER THROUGH IT!’ Hector called, grinning, sweating where he just stood with arms crossed. ‘SHOW THE HARSH SUNLIGHT WHOSE SUPERIOR! KEEP TRAINING, AND GET PLENTY OF DRINKS!’

And so, those that weren’t partaking in the battle continued training in the harsh sunlight that Summer had called indoors…

Croagunk does not have Dry Skin. Are you saying Erza’s good enough a Pokémon Trainer to know Croagunk COULD have had Dry Skin and that the sunlight would have been damaging to the Toxic Mouth Pokémon?

With the sunlight, Dale figured Summer to be the more dangerous Pokémon and Makuhita flashed up to her and slammed with Fake Out, causing her to flinch and made her an open target as Croagunk dashed forth and broke the floor open to get some mud from underneath and throw it at Summer, doing light yet Super Effective Ground-type damage and decreasing her accuracy.

‘OY! WE’RE GONNA NEED TO PAY FOR THAT!’ Hector called, meaning the floor that was just ripped up.

‘Eh, put it on my tab!’ Dale called with a wide smile, sounding like it really didn’t matter all that much to him.

This meant, though, that meant Flora could use Growth, prompting Dale to go a little ‘oh, darn’ as Flora’s stats were boosted greatly by the harsh sunlight.

‘Croagunk, go after Budew, Mud Slap! Makuhita, stay on Vulpix, Power-Up Punch!’ … Dale also has switched his tactics enough to warrant player input. Makuhita is on Summer, not intending on letting her target Croagunk and intending on Power-Up Punching up close, because Croagunk already Mud Slapped her. Croagunk, the poison type, was of course sent after Flora as a grass type, intended to resist the Mega Drain and then Mud-Slap to get down Flora’s Accuracy before Power-Up Punching despite Not-Very-Effective to eventually do significant damage to Flora. What will Erza command?

Against Madeline, later.

The first thing that happened was that Mankey and Hawlucha both charged forth, intending for quick close combat! Mankey at Vee, and Hawlucha at Pharia! They know no fear! … That’s when Vee Helping Handed, powering up Pharia’s Thundershock! It blasts the flying wrestler, cooking the Pokémon excessively and making it collapse onto the ground! … But wait, it just precisely wasn’t done! Hawlucha managed to precisely reach Phario to deliver a single blow of Power-Up Punch! … Didn’t do nearly as much damage as Pharia did to Hawlucha!

Vee then Quick Attacks away, before Mankey could reach him, straight into Hawlucha and knocks out the last of Hawlucha’s health. Meanwhile, Pharia turned and Thunder Waved Mankey, the pig monkey unable to avoid the paralyzing waves! And from here… Mankey was completely unable to overcome his paralysis as he came under constant fire, Pharia shooting Thundershocks and Vee Quick Attacking into him, disorienting Mankey until he couldn’t take anymore and fainting, providing Erza with his easiest victory!

Vee grew to level 15!


‘Aaah, no way…’ Madeline complained as she watched the result. ‘… Guess that’s what happens when you’re allowed to customize your team for what you’re fighting, huh! Don’t get used to it!’

Erza was victorious! Erza gained 52P for winning!


‘… Don’t look so disappointed! We’re all pathetically poor at this gym!’ Madeline announced like proud of this fact.

Anyways, Erza had two fights before that one that didn’t go quite as smoothly! What does he do in those?

It looked like the surrounding Onixes were pretty pleased with Eryn’s fright. There was something of a pleasure in being in a position of power, after all. Then, when she showed her gratitude for the egg offered to her, they also looked pretty pleased with themselves, above all the Onix she was thanking.

‘On-on-on-on…!’ the Onix laughed about making that child to be stronger than him, and then he looked her straight in the eyes with a focused glare. ‘ONIX…!’ He called out, and that translated into I’M COUNTING ON IT…!’

The mother Onix merely continued to glare at her, but with Eryn’s proclamation that the child would be safe, she gave a little grunt that may have been an acknowledgement. Maybe. In any case, she picked up the egg and moved on.

‘Diglett!’ the Diglett that had followed her called out to her happily, one final time before she went out and Onix slammed the entrance and caused it to collapse, ensuring nobody would be using it to enter directly into his domain. Still, if Eryn wanted to go back, she’d soon have her very own Onix that could open that very same path, now, wouldn’t she?

After the little clarification with Eri, they headed on towards Lakewatch Town, heading over the waters in order to get to the Pokémon Center.



‘Oh? A Pokémon Egg? Let me see,’ the nurse says, curiously looking over the egg as Eryn came with it for examination. The nurse brought forth numerous equipment to listen in on the egg, shone a little light at it with a special machine, inspecting it with a Chansey standing nearby…

‘It appears to be pretty close to hatching!’ the nurse says, a mild touch of excitement in her voice. ‘Keep travelling like you have, and it’ll come out soon! It’s still a little ways off, but it’s close! … Oh, and, with the shape of what’s inside it… perhaps give it a wide berth when it hatches, okay? The child is going transform, just like in normal Pokémon evolution, so it may come out of the egg considerably bigger than the egg itself!’ the nurse cautioned.

So, that said! Eryn checked with surrounding trainers about Pokémon you could find near here…

Route 14 has Magikarp, of course. She’s also cautioned about Carvanhas, who have a tendency to be violent. Otherwise, there’s a decent mix of tadpole Pokémon and various duck Pokémon…

Route 5 is primarily grass-type, with Oddish and Deerling being the most obvious Pokémon, but with odd bugs like Caterpie and Scatterbug around. Also, some electric rodents can be found among the trees…

Route 6 is, like, a safari. Honestly, go there yourself, if you want to see what you can find, just don’t train there. The Vast Plains, as they’re called, are way more dangerous than the other Routes around here… So she’s cautioned.

Frozen Caves… First, she’s told there are miners there that mine things out of the ice. Ancient Pokémon and items can be retrieved from there! Really exciting! Otherwise… Swinub, Delibird and Sneasel show up pretty frequently. Just watch out for Glalies.

With that out of the way, heading for Route 5!

‘500 on Lucky, huh…’ Valerie commented on Claire’s bid, something about her tone there. Her hand wandered over to the bath where Togepi and Ralia was playing. She gently gripped around Togepi’s head with a hand, lifting him away from the play with Ralia.

‘Toge…?’ Togepi asked, a bit surprised, before he was dropped into Valerie’s sweet embrace, the queen holding him like a precious child against her.

‘1000 coins on Empress,’ Valerie said, finality to her voice. She then smiled down at Togepi, patting the Spike Ball Pokémon. ‘Don’t you agree, sweetie?’

Togepi looked a little confused, but smiled up at Valerie and reached for her with tiny arms. ‘Togepi!’ he said.

The race was on. To begin with, two of the racers were shooting off faster than any other. The two were Lucky and Empress. Zodiac was still not back at full speed, Grassball did the usual stumble, and Biscuit just didn’t have the pure speed of these two. It looked like it was an even match between Lucky and Empress, when-

-When Biscuit leaned forth to gain a spurt of speed, not catching up to Empress, but one of his heads got far enough to make a furious peck at Lucky’s leg. Lucky, who was focused 100% at running, suddenly caught the peck to her leg and fell down with three panicked yelps, Biscuit now pursuing Empress… but just wasn’t fast enough.

Empress crossed the finishing line first, scoring Valerie a win.

‘Yes, Biscuit will try to target the winner of the last race…’ Valerie said, patting Togepi while maintaining her queenly atmosphere around her. ‘… But with this starting-order, Lucky was placed between Biscuit and Lucky. Biscuit will attempt to attack, but he won’t be able to reach Empress because Lucky was in the way. Hence, he’ll interfere for Lucky instead, meaning Empress got away with the win, Zodiac taking second place. … Besides, it’s very rare for Empress to only win once. Normally, she wins at least two or three times in a row before she becomes too placant,’ Valerie stated, as if she had it all figured out.

Claire just lost 500 coins. She would have won a LOT if she’d won, but… Meanwhile, betting 1000 coins meant Valerie got an additional 400 coins for betting on Empress.

For the sake of the bet, Valerie has 1660 coins total, and Claire has 1440. Valerie’s now in the lead by 200 coins.

Biscuit is looking annoyed again, two of three heads glaring daggers at Empress. Empress, in the meanwhile, is walking back to the start of the race calmly, and in control. Lucky looks a little lost, the three heads pecking a bit at each other, trying to figure out what went wrong. Zodiac looks like he’s in full control again, though, the heads also throwing glances at Empress and Biscuit. And… there’s a bit of a commotion…

‘Oh?’ Valerie wondered, she and Togepi leaning a bit to look down. They were opening a sixth gate for another Dodrio… ‘… Well, I’ll be. Someone’s entered a new contestant.’

A new name showed up on the betting lists. “The Dread Divers”.

‘Hmpf. Horrible taste in names,’ Valerie commented. The odds for them… x3.

Odds are… Grassball (x100) < Biscuit (x10) < Lucky (x5) < Dread Divers (x3) < Zodiac (x2) < Empress (x1.4)

Said Dodrio was wearing black headbands on all three heads, glaring forward like not even acknowledging the other Dodrios. Empress, Zodiac and Biscuit all three looked a bit over the new contestants, Biscuit getting something mischievous in the eyes of two of three heads, though also taking the time to glare at Empress, while the rest just looked forward and focused on the race.

‘So. Our bet continues. Two bets left. You first,’ Valerie said, looking over at her.

The randomized order they’re currently running in, from left to right… DD, Biscuit, Zodiac, Grassball, Lucky, Empress.

‘Huff. Biscuit right next to the newcomer. He’s in for a rough first race,’ Valerie shrugged, apparently not even considering that a tip. Still patting Togepi who was pressed to her bosom, blinking curiously at the lined-up Dodrios.

What would Claire do?

‘T-tsk!’ Jenelle made an annoyed noise at Erika’s rejecting her, frowning and then pointing down at Farfetch’d. ‘Y-you haven’t seen the last of me! I WILL get you, at some point when there’s no trainer around to protect you! Mark my words…!’ … And with that said, Jenelle turned around and fled in full speed over the hill…

So, Jenelle’s parting words were in direct conflict to Erika’s comforting words to Farfetch’d.

‘Farfetch'd,’ the bird said in a neutral tone, looking up at her in confirmation about what she’d just said, nodding a bit as he was petted. She then offered that he could keep her company, which… ‘Farfetch'd!’ Farfetch’d was like “sure!”.

So, with Farfetch’d getting to play with Chic a bit, apparently, Erika focused on getting herself a Swablu. It didn’t take too long to locate, it was just a matter of finding a cloud that was a bit too close compared to how far away a cloud should be. The bigger problem was that… Swablu was flying really, REALLY high for Erika to actually be able to catch…?

‘Farf!’ Farfetch’d suddenly called, and the bird blew off into the skies, past the cloud… and then came down with multiple mighty TWACKS, poking down the Cotton Bird Pokémon with a bunch of stabs with the stalk, bringing down the startled Swablu into range of Sno…!

From there Sno could throw Powder Snow, hitting the cotton bird for super-effective damage, leaving it tired. Swablu attempted to use Sing to put Sno asleep… but Sno somehow managed to dodge the stream of sleep-inducing sound, or more likely, managed to overpower the desire to fall asleep and kept awake at all odds! Not having to deal with her Pokémon falling asleep, Erika threw a Pokéball!

Swablu was hit! The bird with cloud-wings was absorbed into the ball and fell onto the ground…

The ball rolled once! The ball rolled twice…!

So, Dawkin was off to find a trainer to fight! It really shouldn’t take too long…

Except, huh. This was a desert. There wasn’t a lot of people out in the desert at this point. Someone off in the distance there… No, that’s Kristy. He didn’t want to challenge her. With that, he moved on for a while, searching across the desert for someone or something that looked out of place in the desert…

‘U-um, excuse me, up there?’ … He found something exceedingly out of place. He looked down into the dune, and found a girl. A girl with long, green hair, equally green deep eyes, that had sunk down into what appeared to be a conical pit in the sand, which appeared to have been created in the sand by some form of predator. Assumingly the scared girl looking up at him had fallen into the trap built by the predator, but then the predator had been like “wait, this isn’t prey, this is human” and then bailed. She had two Pokémon on her side that looked really unimpressed with her.



Pokédex Entry #298 – Azurill, the Polka Dot Pokémon. It lives by water. It’s big tail is packed with nutrition for it to grow, and is also very bouncy. Azurill spins its tail as if it were a lasso, then hurls it far, the momentum of the throw sends its body flying up to 33 feet. On sunny days they gather at the edge of water and splash about for fun.




Pokédex Entry #551 – Sandile, the Desert Croc Pokémon. They live hidden in hot desert sands to keep their body temperature from dropping. It’s capable of submerging itself and swimming in sand, only its nose and eyes sticking up occasionally. Due to not being confident in hunting, it usually goes after things that have collapsed in the desert.


Azurill looked like she was about to cry from the trainer being so helpless without them able to help, while Sandile looked like she was just about done with all this.

‘C-can you help me up?’

I’m going to go out on a limb here and assume Dawkin would help her up. If he wouldn’t, do tell without reading on, and we’ll edit the rest of the post.

‘U-um, thank you…’ the girl says after Dawkin has helped her up, eyes a bit wide still, looking up at Dawkin… ‘Ah, wait!’ she suddenly looks like she realized something exceedingly important. ‘Grandpa always said, “if your eyes meet, you must battle! That’s the law of Pokémon Trainers”!’ That supposed law is perhaps outdated in Isson. Despite this… ‘I-I’m sorry, but it seems I have to battle you…!’



What would Dawkin do?

Perhaps he wouldn't even help her up. In that case, tell me, and we'll redo it from a bit earlier. Perhaps he doesn't accept the fight, I can't decide that. Anyways!

Togepi looked a bit surprised when Ralia jumped down into the heated bath with him and hugged him, but nonetheless could sense that it was with happy intentions and wanting to play catch. Togepi smiled so happily and innocently.

‘Togepi!’ he called out, raising his tiny arms to play with Ralia.

Meanwhile, Claire put her coins on Empress. Valerie silently watched the situation as it unfolded, analyzing the different candidates with a focused stare…

‘… You’re right,’ Valerie says with a sigh, and then pulled out her wallet… ‘900 coins on Empress,’ Valerie said, placing nine times the funds on the table. ‘For the sake of our bet, we’ll say the both of us started with 1000 coins. Having lost 100, I have 900 left to bet,’ Valerie told, simply.

The race started, and… Grassball stumbled into a pile, Lucky’s taking it easy, Biscuit is still basking in his own success and Zodiac’s heads were squabbling due to their last failure. Empress easily outran the rest and secured a win.

Claire won 140 coins!


… But having bet all 900 of her coins, Valerie won 1260 coins. With that, for the sake of the bet, Valerie has 1260 coins total, and Claire has 1940.

The other competitors are getting a bit more back into the frey. Zodiac’s trainer yelled a bit at the Dodrio heads, and they got themselves back in order. Lucky had taken it easy last race, recharging for a potential spurt. Empress was eager to secure another win-streak. Biscuit saw Empress desire for a win-streak, and two out of three heads got something mischievous in their eyes. Grassball finally got up on actual feet and took three steps back to the starting point.

New order was randomized. From left to right: Biscuit, Lucky, Empress, Grassball, Zodiac.

‘Hmpf, the next one should be a bit more difficult to guess,’ Valerie said, looking over at Claire. ‘Your next bet?’ she asked, focused.

Odds are… Grassball (x100) < Biscuit (x10) < Lucky (x5) < Zodiac (x2) < Empress (x1.4)

Lundin’s Fine Establishment was indeed “fine”. They were crowded and tight on space, but Erza eventually found a table for all his Pokémon and himself. Here, different menus for different Pokémon was provided. Meals for plant-eaters, cooked bits for the carnivores, special water for those who live on that, even special bird-seed for Princess. The GM is abstaining from actually describing the food on account of a severe lack of knowledge within the subject, but rest assured they offered something delicious to every single member of the team, and also offered that he could bring some rations along for the road. Erza’s Pokémon had, mostly, definitely not been treated to anything so nice while out in the wild. It’s nice to be pampered, isn’t it? Overall happiness increased!

And so, filled with good food and re-energized to take on the world, the team tracked down the Pokémon Gym!

Erza tracked down the Gym quickly enough. It was an odd sight. In this town for resorts all the surrounding buildings around all seemed homely and inviting, but here was this was a grey warehouse. There were scaffolding covering the side of it, seemingly bent on repairing or maintaining parts of it that were falling apart, and multiple walls showed signs of previous maintenance or just had outright cracks in them. Also, there were loud sounds coming from within the gym. Cries could be heard from within, echoing between the walls. The only thing that looked like a gym about this place was the sign that stood on the outside.

“The Fighting Challenge-Buster!”

‘Oh? Do my eyes deceive me, or are you a new trainer? No, not just a new trainer… a new Champ-To-Be?’ A guy who had been standing next to the entrance said, looking to Erza and then walking up to him with a smile.



‘Hello, there! I’m the Gym Guy! It’s my job to tell you about the Pokémon League, challenging the gyms and give tips about each specific gym you’re challenging, as well as tell you a little about the leader!’ he said, and then had a lot more to say. It was up to Erza if he wanted to listen or not, but here goes!





And so, sooner or later, Erza entered the gym and announced his presence.

"I WANT TO TAKE THE GYM LEADER CHALLE-!"
"EEVEEEE-!"
‘WELL YOU CAME TO THE RIGHT PLACE THEN!!!’
‘MACHOOOOOOOOOOOOKE!!!’


Aside from the immediate reply from a man shouting while wrestling with a Machoke, the first thing that hit Erza as he entered was the smell of hard effort, likely to cause anyone used to the more proper class to flee in terror. There was no air-conditioning here, yet it very much felt like he had walked into a real gym, with all the efforts that went into that. Pokémon and people alike were lifting barbells, punching punching bags and sparring hard with different martial arts. Black Belts, Battle Girls and their Pokémon were competing both against one another and against their trainers. Numerous humans were trying to wrestle their Pokémon… with what appeared to be extremely minimal success on account of the strength of the Pokémon, but they were trying.

It quickly became apparent that the maintenance outside was because the residents of the gym were constantly hurting their own buildings. The roof where the chains were attached audibly croaked as the punching bags took superhuman hits, there were cracks all over the walls in places where opponents had been thrown, many of the walls were built out of considerably different materials, likely added later in order to keep the building from completely crashing down on the inhabitants. The screams were quickly confirmed to be either just trainers or Pokémon shouting out before a strike… or crying out in pain after one.

And… so many Pokémon. Yet, there seemed to be little distinction between Pokémon and person, each living being in here collectively trying to become stronger by themselves, using the same machines, using the same methods, and sparring against one another without bothering to think about genetic makeup. Only the detail that the Pokémon were way stronger than the humans.

‘GREAT, NOW YOU GOT THE POKÉMON SHOUTING!’
‘BUT, HEY, THIS IS KINDA FUN, ISN’T IT!?’
‘QUIET, YOU ALL! IF A POKÉMON LEAGUE EXAMINER SAW US NOW…!’

‘HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA…!’ the man who had originally shouted at Erza laughed, and somehow his laugh quieted the rest, as he got up on his feet after having been decked by his Machoke. He had slightly spiky orange head on the top of his head, but wore nothing on the top of his body, showing off an amazingly muscular body while his eyes focused forward, full of intent and battle-lust while stretching his muscles a bit after the battle, waving them about a bit. He was handed a coat by a Machop, trying to pull it on, wind up his left arm and glare eagerly at Erza all at the same time…



‘Going into a new gym and proudly announcing your intentions, full of vigour and determination? I LIKE YOUR GUTS!’ Hector announced, sounding pleased.

‘NOOOOW… What kind of challenge should I put you throoouuugh…!?’ Hector grinned as he thought, bringing one hand to his chin. ‘First things first! What level are your Pokémon!?’ Hector asked, excitedly. Apparently he was going to keep this in mind.

‘Hey, boss, can I have him!? His face is handsome, makes me want to dip it in soap and wipe the floors with it!’ the same Battle Girl that had made the comment about “eating” Erza asked with a grin.

‘It HAS been a while since we’ve got to challenge challengers…!’ a Black Belt told, giving a bit of a smirk as he did.

‘Oooh? Hmmm… Yeeaah… I got an idea. I GOT AN IDEA! A BRILLIANT IDEA!’ Hector announced, his eyes lighting up.

‘He’s excited about his idea. You’re in for it, now,’ a nearby Battle Girl turned and told Erza with a normal voice, giving him a smile as she did. There were happy murmurs around the gym.

‘LISTEN UP!’ Hector called, and all was silent. ‘You three,’ Hector said, pointing to the three that had just spoken. ‘Prepare two Pokémon each with which to battle our challenger!’

‘Remember that we’re a Minor League Gym, don’t overwhelm the kid,’ a Black Belt said from the back.

‘Pfth. Spoilsport,’ first Battle Girl said.

‘Alright, YOU!’ Hector tells, pointing at Erza. ‘You will face three of my Gym Trainers! They will each use two Pokémon, and against each of them YOU will only use two Pokémon! You can only use each Pokémon in your party against a single Gym Trainer, dividing your team in three! Show me that each section of your team is a mighty combatant in its own right!’

‘After each battle, EVEN IF YOU LOSE, move onto the next trainer! You’re not permitted to heal your Pokémon at any point! So, in the end, after all three trainers, you’re bound to have a group of pretty damaged Pokémon, won’t you? Well…’ Hector grins.

‘That’s when you, along with whatever might have survived of your team, faces ME!’ Hector announced, crossing his arms with determination. ‘After your fierce trials, when hope seems lost and you can only dream of a Pokémon Center around the corner, THAT is when your most horrific of trials materialize! Regardless of what state you’re in when that happens, I want you to FACE IT! TRIUMPH OVER IT! LET ME SEE YOUR DETERMINATION WHILE WALLOWING IN THE DEPTHS OF DESPAIR! LET ME SEE IF YOU HAVE THE GUTS TO EARN YOURSELF MY CHALLENGE BADGE! HAHAHAHAHA…!’ Hector laughed out loud. There’s numerous ‘ooo’s in the audience of gym trainers.

‘Hey! I really like this challenge! I gotta remember it for later!’ Hector says with a grin. ‘Though, you three! Show him ahead of time what Pokémon you’ll be using! That way he can properly strategize what Pokémon to use against each of you!’

‘Aw, no element of surprise?’ pouted the Battle Girl he’d be facing third. ‘Oh, fine, then.’

‘Alright, then!’ called the first Battle Girl. ‘I’m Charline, and I’m taking you on first~!’ she called, happy for some action, bringing out two Pokémon.





Pokédex Entry #307 – Meditite, the Meditate Pokémon. It is found deep in mountains, meditating for hours on end and surviving on a berry a day. It trains its spirit, and by heightening its inner strength it somehow achieved levitation. It also enjoys daily yoga workouts.

Pokédex Entry #538 – Throh, the Judo Pokémon. It is known to make belts for itself out of vines, and increase in power when said belts are tightened. When it encounters a foe larger than itself, a Throh is filled with an irresistible desire to throw its foe. It changes belts as it gets stronger. In the wild, they always travel in packs of five.


‘I’m Dale! I’ll take you on second!’ the Black Belt said, determined to do some damage, with two other Pokémon.





Pokédex Entry #296 – Makuhita, the Guts Pokémon. Its body has a specific makeup that gains energy from being hit. Each time it’s struck down, it rises using the energy from the hit and stores some of the energy for eventual evolution. It loves to toughen its body above all else, happily undertaking harsh training.

Pokédex Entry #453 – Croagunk, the Toxic Mouth Pokémon. Its cheeks hold poison sacks. It tries to catch foes off guard and jab them with toxic fingers. It rarely fights fairly, in order to ensure survival. While poisonous, the fluids from its fingers are significant ingredients in multiple remedies.


‘And I’m Madeline,’ the last Battle Girl said. ‘And I have a special little surprise for you today.’ That said, she let out her two Pokémon.





Pokédex Entry #56 – Mankey, the Pig Monkey Pokémon. It lives in treetop colonies. It is unsafe to approach as it is extremely ill-tempered and can become violently enraged for no reason, and when one of them becomes angry the whole colony follows suit. They are very nimble, escaping an enraged Mankey can be very difficult.



Pokédex Entry #701 – Hawlucha, the Wrestling Pokémon. Although its body is small, its proficient fighting skills enable it to keep up with big bruisers like Machamp and Hariyama. With its wings, it controls its position in the air. It likes to attack from above, a maneuver that is difficult to defend against.


‘Yeah. I have a shiny Hawlucha!’ Madeline boasted.

‘So you do,’ Hector said, in a tone that told that everyone in the room had heard that one before.

‘Now, FIGHT!’

And so, Erza would need to pick out two of his Pokémon to fight each team that the Gym Trainers were putting forward. I implore that those are picked before the following hiders for their battle strategies are opened. Otherwise, go!

Wild Magikarps does not have the thought-process to think of Struggling to do damage, they just Splash. Hence, Mac was allowed to Scratch the poor fish with impunity to gain some arguably not-very-well-earned levels.

Mac grew to level 6! Mac learned Ember!


And as soon as Ember was learned, Karrablasts and Shelmets were easy prey, letting Mac combat some more competent enemies for better part of the night in order to get stronger.

Pokédex Entry #198 – Murkrow, the Darkness Pokémon. Commonly found near forests when it’s dark, they’re feared as alleged bearer of ill fortune upon those who see it. If spotted, it will attempt to lure the chaser onto mountain trials or forests where they’d get lost. It shows strong interest in anything that sparkles, and will attempt stealing it.


Couple Murkrows here and there seeking food and creeping by people’s windows to find things to steal or other things. They were only active when they believed everyone had gone to bed, when they could start their looting. They’d still avoid any humans or Pokémon that proved to be awake, but he could work around this. Skylar had failed to catch the previous Murkrow he had attempted to catch… but perhaps he’d be more lucky grabbing one of these now? He’d need to corner one, first, though.

First, against Carl.

Vee VS Spearow. Spearow is what you might call a Glass Cannon, with high attack and speed but pretty fragile, compared to Vee’s pretty balanced set-up. However, Spearow proved to be lucky, too, as after Baby-Doll Eyes Spearow got in a maximum amount of Fury Attacks on Vee. Fortunately, due to Vee’s first move being on a range he got the upper hand in the move exchange, and two Swifts did enough to strike down the Spearow, but not before Spearow got in another full five Fury Attacks, leaving Vee pretty damaged. Though…

Vee grew to level 11!


Then… Mareep. Hah.

Taillow Pecked Mareep! … Then got zapped by Thundershock!

Ducklett shot a Water Gun at Mareep! … Then got x4’d by Thundershock!

Zubat Supersoniced and got Mareep Confused! … Mareep fought through and Thundershocked Zubat anyway!

Mareep grew to level 15! Mareep learned Charge!

A light shone in around the sheep Pokémon, as it was preparing to change into its next shape. Mareep is able to stop the evolution if she so wishes. However, if not, her shape’s going to elongate, from standing on four to standing on two legs, and…!



Now, against Ulrika.

Princess VS Vulpix. Princess started with Gust… only to find that the enemy Vulpix had exceptional Special Defense. She managed to relatively dodge an Ember, and then go in for a Tackle. There was a bit of a close-range struggle as Vulpix attempted to Ember at the bird up close, Princess doing more and more damage while Vulpix managed to get an Ember or two in in return. Princess was doing fine and about to win… when Vulpix turned and managed to predict Princess’ attack angle and blasted an Ember straight on. Critical Hit! Princess fainted. A heavily damaged Vulpix turns to face Erza’s next Pokémon.

Still going to get experience for that, though.

Princess grew to level 12!


Regardless. Knock down the Vulpix with any Pokémon.

Against Mareep, it was Budew… for a second, and then it was Vulpix, which had around the same effect as Sunny Day as harsh sunlight came down. Vulpix got paralyzed by a Thunder Wave, but that didn’t stop her. It became an Ember VS Thunder Shock match, and due to the harsh sunlight shining overhead Vulpix held the advantage, firing until Mareep was a cooked sheep that fell fainted.

Budew grew to level 8! Budew learned Water Sport!

Vulpix grew to level 12! Vulpix learned Confuse Ray!


Vee VS Eevee. On account of this Eevee being male, it is not the Eevee from before. Baby-Doll Eyes and Tail Whip was exchanged, which basically neutralized the other, before one went to Swift and the other went to Tackle! And now… now was a performance where one were more skilled than the other. Vee had two levels on the Eevee, and Eevee over here was freshly caught while Vee was more used to trainer VS trainer battle by now. Vee pretty easily came out on top.

Vee grew to level 12!


‘Ow, ow, ow! Alright, then! Back to the Pokémon Center with me!’ Ulrika smiled as she was defeated.

Erza was victorious! Erza earned 633 P for winning!


Finally, against Gideon.

Budew VS Chingling… nope, psyke, Poochyena VS Chingling! Chingling’s Confusion didn’t go well. Chingling’s going to have to go with Wrap, then! … Yeah, no, Poochyena’s going to bite it to pieces.

Budew grew to level 9!

Poochyena grew to level 13! Poochyena learned Odor Sleuth!


Vulpix VS Blitzle. Baby-Doll Eyes decreased Blitzle’s attack as it Quick Attacked away, and then it became a Ember VS Shock Wave battle. Shock Wave WOULD have been the stronger move… but Draught brought a scorching sun into the battle, as well as the fact the typical Vulpix has twice the Special Defense of a Blitzle, and so Vulpix could take the thunder way better than Blitzle could take Vulpix’s enhanced fireballs. Three Embers later, and Blitzle fainted.

Vulpix grew to level 13!


Budew VS Dwebble! Budew starts by using Growth, increasing its Attack and Special Attack dramatically! Dwebble starts shooting rocks at Budew, shooting three rocks but Budew managed to dodge one of them. Dwebble’s high attack still meant this stung! But, with enhanced power, Budew still went for Absorb! Growth had efficiently turned Absorb into Mega Drain, draining Dwebble of some health. Attacking Special Defense was definitely the right move on Dwebble, having weak such… but Budew had weak Defense in turn. In the next round, Dwebble shot a full five rocks into Budew, who barely held on, Absorbing health back but not enough to last another round.

Erza switched to Poochyena, who immediately performed pretty well dodging three out of four rocks of a Rock Blast. Dwebble now went for the super-effective Fury Cutter, while Poochyena went for Bite, and-

Poochyena bit first, causing considerable damage to Dwebble, but Dwebble sliced back and- yowch! Maybe Poochyena got a cool scar from it? … Critical Hit! Super Effective! Poochyena survived only with a slight bit of health on account of being the higher leveled Pokémon. … Poochyena then bit again, and Dwebble fainted.

Budew grew to level 11! Budew learned Stun Spore!

Budew probably became happier with Erza as a trainer, too.

Poochyena grew to level 14!


‘Okay, you got it!’ Gideon grinned as he admitted defeat.

Erza was victorious! Erza gained 272P for winning!


That done with, Erza can continue the other training he intended on doing!

Assuming he went to the Pokémon Center First.

For training on Route 11.

Zigzagoon having Tackle, Growl, Tail Whip and possibly Sand Attack. Budew had Absorb and Growth. Pidove had Gust and Growl.

Vee, Princess, and Budew having no trouble rounding up the local Pokémon, the latter admittedly only against Zigzagoon and only after long battles against other Budews, but quite a few needed to defeat quite a few of them to level up, probably won’t achieve over level 13 on this route.

For Vulpix, there was Budews that she was effective against, but there was nothing on the route that was super-effective against her, here. That said, the relatively high level of Pokémon here meant she could only grind one level before getting too damaged to continue.

Fortunately, Seabreeze only really needed to worry about Murkrows because all other wild Pokémon were too scared/intelligent to do anything but bail as long as Entei stood there. The legendary beast kept his eyes on Skylar as he approached… and gave a slight warning gruff of a sound, indicating that he wasn’t about to let Skylar touch his mane as things were. That said, Skylar was allowed to walk pretty close. Skylar asked his question, even while standing so close to the massive pressure of the fiery lion…

Entei nodded. With a slightly somber but slightly satisfied expression, the mighty beast bowed its head just the slightest before bringing it back up, affirming that indeed, this was the case. After this, Entei lowered his head to grab into the back of Mareep with his mouth, the Mareep giving a distressed little cry as the wool Pokémon was lifted up, and then Entei turned around and leapt back into the forest, quickly disappearing among the trees.

‘… There he goes,’ says the farmer, who just reappeared by the fence behind Skylar. ‘Well. I’m not going to deduct pay for that one, what could you have done? He appears every now and then, and, well. No worries. I have a LOT of Mareep eggs. I’ll consider it my offering, I suppose. If ya ever want to see him again, you can just work here, and he may show up,’ the farmer said.

‘In any case. That’s all I need you for. Well done,’ the farmer said, and handed over the payment.

Skylar gained 1500P!

Yamask followed after when Amelia went to the Golett and Honedge a bit further away. Golett stood straight and official, silent and on-guard like in the presence of a commander still, while Honedge floated with what almost looked like a frown on the face in the scabbard of the floating sword. Amelia started to explain the situation…

"… Lord Aegislash has allowed me to take you all out of the tomb and with me on my journey…"

Golett suddenly piqued awake, looking at Amelia, and then stepped forward and did a nod with its entire torso towards her. Apparently, that was all Golett needed to hear. The rest that Amelia had to say didn’t change that.



Honedge looked a bit more unconvinced, looking Amelia over for a bit. He looked over towards Aegislash a bit, and they stared at one another. Presumably, some form of contact was taking place, whereas Honedge was being given a bit of information about this individual who’d he be joining. Honedge eventually turned and looked towards Amelia, one of the eyes of the scabbard tilting a bit, as raising eyebrows didn’t really work on the eyebrow-less scabbard. Eventually, though…

‘… Honedge!’ Sounded like he’d accept the challenge.



On principle, the average Pokémon should not mind being placed in boxes, or the system would never have been implemented in the first place. That said, Pokémon can have individual preferences, you know the drill. I’ll leave that discussion for you to resolve.

So, what will Amelia do now?

When Eryn started talking about having him or another Onix in her team, Onix raised his head higher, to look down upon the little human talking. He kept still, Diglett doing the same, inspecting Eryn and letting her finish her little speech. After she was done talking, Onix kept silent for a bit, considering her words. Then… he directed his head closer and roared.

‘OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIXXxx’


The cavern shook somewhat underneath her feet, many surrounding Digletts that were around fleeing, though not the particular Diglett next to her. It was probably hard to interpret the roar. Challenge? A command for her to get her ass out of here? However… a couple of seconds after the giant roar, the cavern started shaking once again. More shaking. From more than one direction.

Seconds later, another Onix showed up through a tunnel to Eryn’s right, the giant rock-snake emerging and standing tall. Then, another Onix showed up in a similar fashion to her left. Then behind her. Then slightly to her right behind and above her, a giant rock-snake looking on as the head stuck out of the ceiling. A final one in front of her to the left, emerging from the ground next to the Onix that had guided her here, placing herself next to him. Eryn and her Pokémon found themselves surrounded by five different Onix.

‘Oooooooooonnnniiiiix… Ooooooooonnnn…!’ the one she’d met roared more silently to her, pointing about his tail at the rest of them.

Translation for Dei and Eri:
‘If you wish to collect an Onix, there is more than me. I am yet beyond your power, but one of my kin here may not be… You’ll have to show your mettle in battle for any of us to join you…!’

He then turned and spoke something to the Onix next to him, and she gave him a bit of a glare. Yet, then she reached forth her tail… and placed something on the ground in front of them.



‘Ooooooonnnn… Niiiiiiiix…!’

Translation for Dei and Eri:
‘Alternatively, an adventure in the world at large is something I could wish for my child… You can make a powerful warrior out of what comes from this egg…!’

If Eryn checks the egg, it’s already close to hatching. She wouldn’t have to wait for long.

‘Diglett!’ Diglett called in amazement.

Actually, Water Gun and Vine Whip has normal effect on Gible, part-ground type! However, does Jenelle know that?

‘Grr, dragon! That means Water Gun is ineffective! Alright! Panpour, use Scratch!’ Jenelle commanded, pointing forth.

She does not.

Panpours are faster than Gibles on average, so Panpour got in a Scratch on Gibs first… but then had a Sandstorm erupted into its face. After being buffeted once and getting that Gibs is pretty tough, Panpour used Leer to reduce Gibs Defense successfully, but was then hit in the face by a Sand-Attack. Now Panpour dashed in to Scratch again, but mid-sandstorm and with sand in the face, Panpour had a hard time hitting anything and was buffeted by the sandstorm, and Gibs just sent more sand into its face. By some stroke of luck Panpour managed to hit the next Scratch, but then was promptly Dragon Raged. Panpour stuck around by eating its Sitrus Berry and then tried to attack again… missing terribly and then fainting to the next Dragon Rage.

Pansear was next, revealing the theme of Jenelle’s Pokémon. It goes immediately on the offensive, which Gibs responds to by sending sand in its face. With Sand-Veil in place it means that Pansear misses all four of its Scratches as the fire monkey desperately tears into the sandstorm and, albeit the sandstorm dissipated after the second Sand-Attack, Pansear still missed and Gibs could just set up Sandstorm again and Dragon Rage the poor blind monkey to fainting again without having taken any damage.

Completing the trio was Pansage. It was Sand-Attacked in the face, but despite all of that, it still landed the first Scratch. Gibs had taken quite a bit of damage, now, but was still trucking and shot another Sand-Attack in Pansage’s face. Pansage missed the next Scratch, and then got Dragon Raged again, the dragon-type flames making the monkey cry out from damage and being flung back to eat its Sitrus Berry. It somehow hit the next Scratch, leaving Gibs with perilously little health left… but the next Dragon Rage took out Pansage as well, meaning Gibs had effectively taken out all of Jenelle’s Pokémon on his own.

Gibs grew to level 15! Gibs learned Take Down!


Erika was victorious! Erika gained 546P for winning!


‘Nooooooooooo! My Pans! I-it cost so much to complete the set…!’ Jenelle complained, placing her hands on her head in panic after they all lay defeated. She then looked to Erika in mild panic, then smiled a panicked businessman’s smile and held a hand forward to her.

‘H-hey! Y-you’re pretty good, but how about this? You let me have that Farfetch’d, and I’ll use the money from the client to order whatever Pokémon you want! No matter how rare, Team Amethyst can procure it for you! H-honestly, I’m more concerned about my reputation within the team right now than I am of the money, so if I get to seem competent, you can use it! I get the credit for catching the Pokémon, while you get Amethyst to bring you the Pokémon of your dreams for you, for no cost and no strings attached! Th-that’s a sweet deal, right!?’

So Jenelle attempted, desperate.

‘Far…?’ Farfetch’d asked, behind Erika.

What would Erika do?

… Now, if she declines, Jenelle is probably just going to reply to what Erika says and then run off in a panic with her fainted monkeys, so here’s the Mountain Valley again for the next action. Of course, the next action could be addressing Farfetch’d, but in case it isn’t.

Togepi looked a little confused at Claire’s suddenly patting him, but then looked up happily, waving his tiny arms at her.

‘Togepi!’

‘Biscuit, huh? You’re a bold one,’ the queen commented. ‘In that case, I shall bet 100 coins as well.’

‘Here’s a little primary,’ Valerie said, smiling as she turned to the race. ‘Lucky won last race, and Empress had a winning streak before that. Biscuit will always be annoyed at whoever just won, more annoyed the more they’ve won in a row. Lucky has a tendency to exhaust herself when she wins, so she rarely wins twice in a row. However, Biscuit will still go for her, and Empress is between Biscuit and Lucky. Now, Empress is usually skilled enough to avoid Biscuit, but she rarely performs well right after a loss due to the shock of losing a long winning streak, like the one she just had. As such, I believe the winner will be…’ Valerie held out her money and made her bet.

‘… Zodiac. He seems to have his heads on straight, today,’ she said, like she had solved the puzzle, her own hand going over to pat the Togepi as she did.

‘Toge!’ Togepi called.

And so, the Dodrios got into a row. Order was Zodiac, Biscuit, Grassball, Empress, Lucky, like the order of the bettings. Now, after a bit of preparation, a Bronzong’s bell was hit to call the beginning of the race…

And Biscuit starts the entire thing by ramming to the right, because that’s apparently allowed.

He misses Grassball, mostly because Grassball’s heads were still squabbling, but it took Biscuit straight into the side of Empress, who then carried them off into Lucky, the three heads of Lucky blinking in surprise before they were all bashed into the wall.

The only Dodrio to actually dash on was Zodiac.

‘… And there we have it,’ Valerie said with a smile. ‘Honestly, sometimes it all turns so predict-’ Valerie stopped talking, because Zodiac suddenly turned around right before the finish line. Togepi was still smiling at Claire.

Biscuit came skipping over, the only real survivor of the crash he had arranged for. There was somewhat of a glaredown taking place between the riders and the Dodrios, two out of three Biscuit heads giving what sounded like mocking laughter at Zodiac, whose heads were looking at Biscuit with what appeared to be malice…

‘… Oh, no,’ Valerie said, realizing. ‘Zodiac had enough. He… always did state his distaste for winning due to Biscuit…’

The two Dodrios charged one another, one with heavy justice and the other just enjoying being placed in this situation…

‘… But… Zodiac can’t beat Biscuit…’ Valerie stated out her realization…

… And so it was. Zodiac might be stronger, but Biscuit didn’t know the meaning of fair fighting. While the audience shouted the name of their preferred winner, Zodiac attacked with regular Fury Attacks… but Biscuit countered by using Pluck, aimed like one of Zodiac’s six eyes was a berry. Biscuit then proceeded to entangle them while Zodiac was in pain, wrapping leg over and tripping the other Dodrio.

This… was when Empress came running, having finally recovered from the crash and was dashing to go past the battle and finish first. It really looked like-

Biscuit threw Zodiac in a perfect manner to crash him into Empress and the two hit the wall in what looked like a really painful manner.

Two out of three of Biscuit’s heads laughed as they pranced over the finishing line.

Claire won 1000 coins!


For a total of 2030 coins.

‘Togepi!’ Togepi called out happily. Valerie turned her gaze to look at the blissfully ignorant Pokémon.

‘Deceitful little creature, aren’t you,’ the queen muttered. Then, she reached into her clothing…

And placed a rather large bowl next to Togepi.

‘Toge?’ Togepi asked. Valerie proceeded to take out a Pokéball and call out…



Pokédex Entry #662 – Fletchinder, the Ember Pokémon. A territorial Pokémon that will hunt other Fletchinders off if too close. It’s very fast, its acceleration from takeoff is famously high, though can only reach max speed when its flame sack’s gotten warm enough. When feeding it sets grass on fire from its beak, and then feeds on the bugs jumping out in fright.


‘You know what to do,’ Valerie commanded, while she was taking out a bottle of Fresh Water and pouring it into the bowl. Fletchinder nodded, and pulled its wings around the bowl, heating it up with Flame Body. Valerie then lifted and gently placed the surprised Togepi into the heated water…

‘Togeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee…’ Togepi breathed out as he was allowed a very nice warm bath, a little comfortable smile on the little Pokémon present. Valerie then gave it an Oran Berry, Togepi blinking happily and then accepting the berry to eat as a snack in the pool.

‘Only the best for my precious companion,’ Valerie said, smiling oh, so kindly at Togepi.

‘Togepi~!’ Togepi called, happily. Fletchinder was dutifully heating the water still.

‘Now, then…’ Valerie turned to Claire. ‘It seems you have a 1000 coin head start, as the result of the most violent “race” I’ve ever seen. Very well. I would have simply matched your bet in all the races, but I feel forced to ask how many coins you started with? If I bet more than that, it would be fundamentally unfair,’ Valerie said, something sharp in her tone now. Claire proved to be a challenger, after all.

The Dodrios are brought back to the starting point. Most look pretty messed up after Biscuits last performance, though. Zodiac looks out of it, Lucky looks confused and Empress looks angry. Biscuit still hasn’t stopped laughing, and Grassball looks… normal. For now.

Now the starting order from left to right is… Biscuit, Zodiac, Empress, Lucky, Grassball.

Odds are… Grassball (x100) < Biscuit (x10) < Lucky (x5) < Zodiac (x2) < Empress (x1.4)

So. Claire’s next bet? Valerie will insist on betting after her.

As demonstrated, with the exception of outside interference, anything goes on the Dodrio tracks. Only rule is to start at the same time and first one that crosses the finish-line wins. Usually racing is just a lot faster than trying to fight the others, though.

Claire started out at the slots.

Claire started out with a decent win and ended up at around 350 coins!
Then she got into a losing streak down to 275 coins…
Minor win! 325 coins!
A bit of a losing streak, went all the way back down to 250 coins…
SAME decent win, after a Mime Jr came up on the digital screen and stopped the last bar for her! 350 coins!
HORRIFIC losing streak, down to 185 coins.
A series of minor wins that all led up to around 280 coins!
A decent win going up to 380 coins!
A bad losing streak down to 260 coins.
Somewhat of a win up to 290 coins.
Major win to 350 coins!
Small pieces of losing and winning back and forth that slowly edged her up to 380 coins again…
Sudden terrible losing streak, down to 250 coins.
Major win when a Drilbur came up and rotated the first bar from a loss into a win! 350 coins!

… This went on for an hour, going up and down. Claire managed to get up to 380 coins again before leaving.

She went over to the roulettes!

As the ball rolled and an Alakazam watched the wheel… Claire found herself on a bit of a losing streak. She lost five straight times, all the way down to 130 coins. So, then, she decided to play one more time, max bet of 50 coins… and freakin’ won! Suddenly 430 coins! As she started to win, she kept playing. … And then she won again!? 730 coins. She lost once after, 680 coins… Then she won again to 980 coins. Yikes. People and Pokémon at the table are now staring at her with envy and suspicion. She lost thrice down to 830 coins… Then won. 1130 coins. Claire departed the table with people glaring at her back.

As her winnings are closest to 900, Claire is apparently skipping the cards.

So… Claire approached the queen herself. Valerie, the queen of contests and casinos, apparently. She was sitting at the Dodrio races, where the Dodrio she bet on won yet again.



She took out a whole bunch of coins, because of course she had bet on a mildly low-odds one, and then turned and gave over half of it to the Lopunny next to her.

‘Spread these among the riders of the Dodrios. Congratulate the Dodrios on a job well done,’ Valerie told with a little smile, and the Lopunny bowed gratefully.

‘Togepi!’ called the little Pokémon on top of Valerie’s table…



Pokédex Entry #175 – Togepi, the Spike Ball Pokémon. As its energy, it uses the positive emotions of compassion and pleasure exuded by people and Pokémon. This Pokémon stores up feelings of happiness inside its shell, then shares them with others. Considered a symbol of good luck, it is said that individuals who treat it kindly will become lucky.

In the beginning, Claire walked up to Valerie. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move. Completely ignoring those infuriated glances by Valerie’s fans who kept themselves on a respectable distance, Claire got the woman’s attention as she got closer.

‘… Oh? And who might you be?’ Valerie asked, tilting her head and looking up at Claire, since Valerie herself was seated. Togepi looked up at Claire curiously.

‘Did you come to challenge me? Hm… Well, then,’ Valerie turned and faced to Dodrios. ‘Let’s say it like this, then. We’ll bet on the Dodrio Races five times, and the one who won the most coins win,’ Valerie suggested.



Pokédex Entry #85 – Dodrio, the Triple Bird Pokémon. It uses three brains to execute complex plans. It has three hearts, three sets of lungs but only one stomach. The three heads are no longer identical, representing joy, sorrow and anger each, occasionally squabbling with different opinions. They’re largely aggressive and should be approached with caution for pecks.


‘Of course, that isn’t entirely fair, I know these Dodrios and you don’t, but… we can make that up for in coin prices. If I win, you pay me 1,000 coins. If you win…’ Valerie gave Claire a little smile. ‘10,000 coins. Sounds good?’

If Claire accepted, the following five were the Dodrios.

Zodiac. Looks pretty strong. The heads occasionally quarrel, but they have a good track record when cooperating. Decently good driver, too. Decent odds of winning.

Biscuit. A nasty but average Dodrio with a tendency to mess up other riders with pecks and tripping. Pretty rarely wins themselves because the heads squabble, but can mess up the others, throwing wrenches into the odds.

Grassball. A shiny Dodrio! … Has a pretty terrible record. Often trips and looks exhausted already. Though, like, if you do bet on her and she wins…?

Empress. The constant favorite. Rid by a pro, bred by a pro. All three heads in sync. Wins the most, gives the lowest reward when she does.

Lucky. Supremely average, usually loses to both Zodiac and Empress, but occasionally she outperforms them all. Valerie just won betting on her…

Odds are… Grassball (x100) < Biscuit (x10) < Lucky (x5) < Zodiac (x2) < Empress (x1.4).

Erza switched up his team and went on to challenge Route 11 for a couple levels.

Thing is, he's fighting trainers.

And trainers aren't as willing to just grind against as wild Pokémon.

‘Diglett!’ Diglett (♀) happily responded to the only question she could possibly answer with her extensive vocabulary. Then, ‘Diglett!’ she called equally excitedly in response to have built this whole tunnel. Though, any Pokémon Eryn had along could translate Diglett’s happy cry as “No, I didn’t!”

Then when Onix appeared, Diglett’s next cry was “He did!”

Onix (♂) stared silently at the Eryns as Eryn did her explaining. His alert expression faltered a bit, and then gave a mild, mouldering growl at them, before turning around and pulling its massive body through another tunnel.

‘Diglett!’ Diglett happily called, and started following after. The Pokémon around Eryn could translate that into “He wants us to follow him!”

Anyways, Skylar called in Paradise, while JoJo was already in place. JoJo shot Barboach with a Disarming Voice through the smoke, staggering the fish but not stopping it.

‘You…! Koffing, smog the fairy! Barboach, grab that Torchic!’ Guy commanded, annoyed at being attacked.

‘KOFFIIIING!’ Koffing called again, bursting out a cloud of purple smoke at JoJo. Meanwhile, Barboach did manage to sneak into the henhouse and managed to come out with its tail tied around the leg of a Torchic it intended to escape with… but then Paradise was there.

‘Barboach, dodge!’ Guy called when Paradise unleashed her Razor Leaves.

‘Barboach?’ the fish asked, then got utterly peppered with razor-sharp leaves. Critical Hit! Super Effective! Barboach utterly fainted by x8 damage!

‘Seriously? Fine, then I'll do it myself!’ Guy called, dashing forward into the smoke to pick up the Torchic Barboach had pulled out… ‘WAHK!’ only to suddenly be launched back out of the smoke and onto his back, Barboach also sent flying past him for good measure. The smoke cleared, and there stood mama Combusken, one leg raised after the kick and glaring daggers after the Amethyst grunt, Torchic safe and confused behind her. Maybe, just maybe, the Torchics were not really in as much danger as the farmer had made it seem like.

‘D-darn… Koffing, retreat!’ Guy called, returning Barboach to a Pokéball and running off, Koffing hurriedly floating after.

Skylar was victorious! Skylar earned 374P for winning.

There, Skylar had successfully repelled the invader, and pretty quickly, too! Good thing, that, because Celebrity on her own would not have been able to efficiently hold back the Murkrows that were doing nasty tactics like diversions and such.

The time which Skylar needed to protect the ranch for was reaching the end. Fortunately enough, all he now had to deal with was-

Dawkin momentarily left the tombs to go train.



Anyways. Dawkin started training, which went excellently for Wooper, all these Ground and Fire types about.

While training he saw these little yellow critters sometimes surfacing here and there in the desert. Given they’re pretty recognizable Pokémon, Dawkin could identify them. And if he couldn’t, the Pokédex could.



Pokédex Entry #27 – Sandshrew, the Mouse Pokémon. It lives in arid regions burrowing deep underground. It emerges only to hunt for food, which it catches by lounging out of their burrows. If threatened, it curls into a protective ball and bounces off from enemy attacks. If it gets cold at night, its body will coat itself with a fine dew.


And then, also, here and there in the desert there was something alike small, centralized sandstorms that blew around spherical areas. Peering inside these sandstorms revealed the source, small herds of sand hippos walking about inside.



Pokédex Entry #449 – Hippopotas, the Hippo Pokémon. It lives in arid places. Instead of perspiration, it expels grainy sand from its body. It shrouds itself in this sand to ward of germs and enemies. It can walk through sand as easily as on ground, though has to shut its nostrils when doing so. They form colonies of around ten.


Anyways, training!

Wooper did well enough, assuming she avoided Cacneas. Lots of Ground-type Pokémon that she could Water Gun on a distance and then Water Gun again before they got too close. Problem was, she didn’t resist the ground-type, and most Pokémon here used Normal-type attacks anyway. But, she got a decent amount of training in.

Cacnea as well, though Absorb was weaker than Water Gun and didn’t take out the enemy as efficiently. It did heal her in return, however, and considering Wooper could heal her anyway by just Water Gunning her, Cacnea was able to get one excellent amount of training, assuming she avoided Darumakas.

Wooper grew to level 13!

Cacnea grew to level 14! Cacnea learned Sand Attack!


… And here’s a level for the rest, too, just because.

Atlas grew to level 13! Atlas learned Rock Tomb!
Pichu grew to level 10! Pichu learned Sweet Kiss!
Tyrunt grew to level 6! Tyrunt learned Roar!


So, what’ll Dawkin do now?

Current Condition; Clear - Because I’m not about to drop a sandstorm on you after what you just went through. The usual sandstorm blows over the path to the Mystic Oasis, though.

Desert Mines. What Raremine Town stands here for! These mountains are filled with dough!
Old Tombs. Across the desert, an old and chilling place awaits those who wants to visit…

‘As has it been mine, you who came to the aid of my master,’ Aegislash’s controlled boy said, giving a bow in return. As Amelia moved on, she may or may not have noted Darcie and her father went to talk to Aegislash. Jonas was still waiting on a bit of a distance. Anyways, moving on, now!

The Yamasks she looked to gave each other a look, the Pokémon looking at one another for a bit of time, then in some way came to a unified agreement and one of them floated forward.

‘Yamask!’ the Yamask called to her, approvingly.



So, that was one down. It should be noted, however, that this was her sixth Pokémon, and if she put Yamask into a Pokéball the Pokédex definitely showed her party as full. Assuming she hasn’t been going around with any of her Pokémon as wild just floating about her.

The farmer frowned a bit at Skylar’s suggestion, though he considered it.

‘Let me tell you, Torchics are rare Pokémon. On Isson, I’m the primary provider of most of those you’ll find out there’ including Chic! ‘so handing one over for that little is too little. However, I am in need of help, so let’s say it like this. I deduct 6000P, so you get 1500P for the work, but in exchange, you also get a Torchic. Got it?’



Otherwise, suppose it was straight ahead and to defend the ranch! Skylar deployed his forces as described, Seabreeze overhead looking things over, while Celebrity and Paradise watched the crops and the pens. Jonathan and Skylar himself watched for foxes and snakes as best they could. So, the first couple minutes nothing was happening at all, just the sound of the various animals on the ranch occasionally sounding out their names. Then… a bird went down at the crops.



Pokédex Entry #16 – Pidgey, the Tiny Bird Pokémon. They are docile Pokémon that avoid fighting, kicking up sand in an enemy’s face or using Whirlwind to avoid battles. They have sharp senses of direction, capable of finding their nest or destination from very large distances. They inhabit tall grass where they search and prey on small bugs.


The birds were, in fact, mostly Pidgeys! After Celebrity scared off the first one, more and more came travelling down. Then, it didn’t take long for JoJo to see the first snake trying to sneak through the grass towards the henhouse…



Pokédex Entry #23 – Ekans, the Snake Pokémon. It stealthily sneaks through grass to prey on small animals and bird-eggs. When born, it is short and has no poison, but the poison develops and it grows longer as it gets older. When it sleeps, it wraps itself around a tree to safely sleep high up from the ground.


… And promptly Confusion at it, making the snake recoil, hiss, and slither off. Then, Paradise made the first sighting of a “wolf”...



Pokédex Entry #261 – Poochyena, the Bite Pokémon. At first sight, it will bite anything that moves and threaten foes with bared fangs and bristling out the hair on its tail. It’s a Pokémon with persistent nature, liking to chase down its prey using its acute sense of smell until the prey becomes exhausted. However, if the prey strikes back, Poochyena turns tail.


… Who immediately became occupied baring their teeth at the big Tropius in their way and then fled at high speed after a Gust or whatever Paradise would send after them. Turned out that most the Pokémon attacking the farm were unwilling to engage in actual battle. When Skylar localized the first fox…



Pokédex Entry #37 – Vulpix, the Fox Pokémon. Inside a Vulpix's body burns a fire that never goes out. It commonly inhabits grassy fields, and will feign injury to escape a stronger opponent. When born, a Vulpix has only one snow-white tail, but with age and care it splits into more, warmer tails.


… It was unwilling to even come close, because Skylar was in the way. So far, simple enough. Whenever Pidgeys descended or Poochyenas tried to approach it was a simple matter to chase them off. Ekans tried to sneak closer through the grass on unexpected angles, but JoJo’s emotional sensor could detect their predatory instincts and localize them before they reached their targets, Confusion serving well to cause them to flee.

However, as the day grew darker, approaching evening, something tried to be clever. Black shapes were watching the movements of the defenders from a range, looking for openings, through which they attempted to sneak down low so they could descend into the crops unseen where Celebrity and Paradise were not looking… good thing Seabreeze was watching with his Keen Eye! Seabreeze could quickly swoop in and cause panic in the black shapes, who cawed up into the air as Seabreeze uncovered their schemes.



Pokédex Entry #198 – Murkrow, the Darkness Pokémon. Commonly found near forests when it’s dark, they’re feared as alleged bearer of ill fortune upon those who see it. If spotted, it will attempt to lure the chaser onto mountain trials or forests where they’d get lost. It shows strong interest in anything that sparkles, and will attempt stealing it.


Now in the air, Celebrity could chase them away with Disarming Voice. Noticing the Pokémon that had appeared on the other side, Skylar quickly made the way over, depending on JoJo to hold the fort, which he did the best he could. It took a bit of time, but then there finally was one Murkrow which was hit by a Disarming Voice, and then Skylar could throw a Pokéball and hit it. Murkrow was absorbed into the ball, and it fell onto the ground.

The Eevee stopped the attack as Vee was called back, and then simply watched him curiously as Erza said that he’d be coming back for her. She sat there in place as Erza headed off, back to Redcoast City. Then to its Pokémon Center.

Note that the Pokémon at the PC will be instantly healed.



And then… he asked about the Pokémon Gym.

‘Oh? Curious about Hector’s Gym? Or perhaps scared for what it looks like on the outside?’ The trainer he asked chuckled a bit. ‘Hector’s a Fighting-type Gym Leader of the Minor League, and would be a good place to start looking for badges. Except, he’s a bit of a brute, and loves using high-level Pokémon he isn’t supposed to. He dreams of becoming a Major League Gym Leader so he can have explosive battles with high-level challengers… Not yet. He’s a bit unpredictable as you’ll rarely have a regular fight against him, instead he’ll make up some sort of challenge for you to overcome on the spot. These challenges range from “so easy you feel like you stole the badge” to “virtually impossible”, it all depends on his whim. But, his challenge is one all trainers must overcome sooner or later, right? Better just go face him and see how it goes!’

‘Oh, and the looks of the building is just because Hector needs to pay for fixing it after every battle. The place is pretty run-down after so many high-powered matches inside a low-quality building. It’s a wonder it still stands… The screams are really just the trainers trying to fight their Fighting-type Pokémon. They lose every time, often with mildly painful results,’ he said, chuckling so more. … Yupp. That’s it. The information Erza might need if he felt like going to challenge the gym in Redcoast City.

Ten Pokéballs for 200P apiece becomes 2000P. That plus five potions for 300P apiece becomes 1500P. Erza paid 3500P. He has 3950P left.

He’s now in Redcoast City. What would he like to do?

Once again, Aegislash listened to her, and then responded through the boy.

‘As is custom, if a trainer can defeat and catch a Pokémon of the tomb, I will let them bring it with them. I believe, however, that you will have no problem convincing them to follow you on their own. Your affinity is apparent to one such as me. I can direct you to a Golett and Honedge that will be yours to persuade, though I am not aware of any Pokémon of unnatural colouration within this tomb. Note, though, that the Yamask of the tomb do not fall under my command. They are the former inhabitants of the civilization that built this tomb, mine to defend, not to rule. As long as they stay, I will defend them. Should they not wish to join you, there is nothing I could do about it. … Not that it appears like that will be a problem.’

So he told, Aegislash looking towards the Yamasks floating over Amelia's head still, not having departed since giving her the Relic Gold. They’re still there.



Pokédex Entry #562 – Yamask, the Spirit Pokémon. They’re said to have arisen as the spirits of people interred in graves of old times. They carry a mask with their likeness from when they were human, which they sometimes look at and cry. They appear to retain their memories from living as they wander the ruins of ancient civilizations.


Then, the matter of Jonas.

‘Hmpf. I was wondering what that boy was still around for. Very well. I’ll ensure my forces do not extract vengeance upon him, and also that this boy will be handed off to him when my need for conversation is at an end,’ the boy said, with Aegislash floating beside him as he spoke.

Somewhere in the background, Darcie’s father was emerging from the tomb, leading those that had been put to sleep for Darkrai to feed on out of their place of capture while a bunch of ghosts watched them as they left. Darcie ran over and promptly stopped in front of her father, talking to one another in the same voice they always use, neither of them showing much of a facial expression despite the supposedly happy reunion.

With that done, as Amelia’s currently in the tombs, it would not be particularly difficult to locate a Golett and a Honedge that would be suitable enough for her to attempt to convince. For the former, there’s a line of Goletts standing in a row and on guard just nearby, like the soldiers of the ancient kingdom. If needed, Aegislash gestured to one with his “elbow”, that could be suitably leveled for Amelia.



Pokédex Entry #622 – Golett, the Automaton Pokémon. These Pokémon were created by ancient scientists and move using an unknown energy which it burns within itself. The source of this energy is unknown, and they’ve each been active for thousands of years. Constructed out of clay, it was meant to protect the civilization that constructed it.


Not as common as Goletts but still quite a few, there was Honedge’s floating around above the rest of them, and if needed Aegislash gestured to one of those as well, the Honedge turning to face them with its eyes(?), curious about why it was being looked at.



Pokédex Entry #679 – Honedge, the Sword Pokémon. They are ancient swords possessed by departed spirits, floating by mystical power. Should someone grab the hilt, its blue sash ties itself around the arm to hold it in place as the sword drains the energy of the one foolish enough to grab the hilt of a possessed sword.


There was also Bronzors among the army, but on account of not being ghosts, perhaps were not particularly interesting.



Pokédex Entry #436 – Bronzor, the Bronze Pokémon. They were found in ancient tombs, and implements shaped like them are too. Ancient people seem to believe the pattern on their back had mysterious powers. They are closely related to mirrors in ancient writing, yet no surface of it is properly reflective. X-raying it, there’s nothing inside.


Now, then. What would Amelia do?

Dawkin can do things too. If he wants to.

Searching the skies, Erika mostly saw the common sorts of birds above all. However, occasionally, there was like there was a little cloud accompanying them…



Pokédex Entry #333 – Swablu, the Cotton Bird Pokémon. Swablu has light and fluffy wings that are like cottony clouds. This Pokémon is not frightened of people. It lands on the heads of people and sits there like a cotton-fluff hat. As it cannot relax in dirty places it will clean any dirt it finds with its wings and then clean them in a stream.


They walked closer to the mountain-side, seeking nests… when something just skipped right over them, and bounced on. There were multiple of them in the more mountainous area. Indeed, because they were constantly bouncing they were pretty easy to detect.



Pokédex Entry #325 – Spoink, the Bounce Pokémon. It bounces around on its tail, the shock of each bounce makes its heart pump. If it stops, its heart will stop. The pearl on its head amplifies its Pokémon's psychokinetic powers. Its life consists of a constant search for a bigger pearl. It loves to feed on underground mushrooms.


Still, Erika kept looking at the skies to see something out of the ordinary… and she did. Was that a flying musical note?



Pokédex Entry #441 – Chatot, the Music Note Pokémon. One of few Pokémon that can learn and speak human words. So, staying at the mountainside, Erika searched some more… and came across a small shape trying to climb a cliff that did not look climbable. The little shape was struggling, yet was still fueled by the determination to climb further, to overcome its limits.

… And the bird promptly swooped around Erika and hid on the ground behind her! A second or so after it did so, a female voice sounded out from the direction Farfetch’d had come.

‘Oh, c’mon! A wild Pokémon shouldn’t hide from a trainer behind another trainer! Just stay still and let me capture you!’ she called, running closer with a blue monkey-like Pokémon at her side. On account of how tired she looked, it appeared she had pursued this Farfetch’d for quite a while.

Pokédex Entry #515 – Panpour, the Spray Pokémon. It stores water in the tuft on its head and fires it from its tail. It likes watering plants. When in the tuft the water becomes extremely nutritious, any plant watered is sure to grow large. It does not like dry environments and will dampen itself using its own water if it grows too dry.


‘… Can you please move aside? I’m trying to catch a Farfetch’d…’ the girl asked Erika. So far, perhaps that sounded pretty natural, trainers catching Pokémon isn’t anything weird. However, then… ‘My client REALLY longs back to the days he could have Farfetch’d burgers whenever he wanted. Then it got all protected and stuff, but he’s old now and this might be his last chance, so if it’s just one, if we grill just this one it won’t be a problem…!’

So, in that battle way in the past by now, Ralia successfully defeated Sno in that final battle with Erika.

Claire obtained Mach Bike!


Mach Bike most assuredly was not designed to be used within a city and Claire caused quite the bit of havoc by using it. Somehow, she found a route most assuredly not meant for bikes trucking down to the Entertainment District, after which she had to manouver the crowded roads leading from building to building in these dark skyscrapers until she finally arrived at the shiniest building in the underground.

The halls spread out vastly in all directions. Rows upon rows of slot machines filled the shining golden halls, a stylish gold, black and red theme hanging over the entire place, it felt like the lap of luxury itself. The place was filled to the brim with chattering consumers that were playing the various available games. Of course, we not being restricted by some form of anti-gambling age-restriction laws, there were tables for common poker and blackjack, not to mention a roulette, as well as various minigames of Card Flip, Voltorb Flip, Dodrio Racing that people bet on…

The dealers are all high-level Psychic-types. Alakazam, Mr. Mime, Gardevoir, Gothitelle… Also, there were Jynx dancers and Lopunny servers providing drinks to those playing. Just… because.

Pokédex Entry #122 – Mr. Mime, the Barrier Pokémon. A master pantomime, it practices constantly. It generates a mystic force from its fingers, creating an actual invisible wall by stopping air-molecules. Should it be disturbed during its act, it slaps with its broad, powerful palms. It enjoys conning people.




Pokédex Entry #282 – Gardevoir, the Embrace Pokémon. It has the ability to predict future events. They’re known for bonding closely with a single trainer, and then fiercely protecting them even at the expense of its life. It has the psychokinetic power to distort the dimensions and create small black holes.




Pokédex Entry #576 – Gothitelle, the Astral Body Pokémon. Space is distorted by its intense psychic power, and viewed through that space one can see stars thousands of lightyears away. It is capable of predicting the future by looking at the stars, and it can see the lifespans of trainers by looking at them. If it cries while looking at someone, it may mean they’re not long for this world.




Pokédex Entry #124 – Jynx, the Human Shape Pokémon. It constantly moves in a rhythm of its own, as if dancing. These dances are known to be alluring, causing people to shake their hips to the rhythm without noticing. It speaks a human-like tounge, yet it’s incomprehensible to us.




Pokédex Entry #424 – Lopunny, the Rabbit Pokémon. Extremely cautious, known to quickly bound off when it senses danger. It’s very conscious of its looks and grooms its fur with dedication, shedding said fur twice a year. If they are touched roughly, they deliver powerful kicks with their graceful legs.


Aaaaaaaaaaaand it took a mere few steps into the Game Corner before someone showed up in front of Claire with an offer in their hand.

‘Hello! Welcome to Worldedge City Game Corner! This is your first time at our establishment, correct? Then, here’s our special deal for newcomers! For 1000P, get a shiny new Coin Case and 250 Coins! Normally, 1000P only nets you 50 Coins, so it’s a bargain!’

Eryn dodged her way into the mountainous rocky cavern, avoiding Geodudes and Gravelers on the way. She successfully managed to get past the brawl, and fortunately discovered that the Zubats behind her was pretty hesitant to continue on this path. The “why” of matters not immediately important, Eryn proceeded to go down the path the Graveler had rolled. She’d quickly discover that the natural light of Wet Caverns originated from its water, and as such, down here it quickly became very, very dark. Fortunately, Dei’s presence made that less of an issue, and she could continue regardless, assuming she was prepared to occasionally cast herself out of the way as that was not the only Graveler that was going to come rolling down. There was the sound of an explosion somewhere in the distance of the caves…

Finally, she arrived to what could best be described as some tunnels. They were not exactly straight or even, more curving a bit as they wanted, only sometimes passing by one another. A chain of tunnels that could allow Eryn to climb a bit however she wanted. Honestly, they seemed more like something a Pokémon of some kind had created, rather than a naturally occurring cavern. That, and… a tiny Pokémon stuck its head out. The little bump in the ground stared up at her curiously, and then called to her happily.

‘Diglett!’



Pokédex Entry #50 – Diglett, the Mole Pokémon. They live underground and spend most of their time submerged. It’s weak to light, and will only pop up where shielded or in caves. They often exist a mere yard underground eating roots. They’re often raised on farms, because soil dug through by Digletts is left perfectly tilled for growing healthy crops.


… And that’s when the tunnel suddenly started shaking. Something… was approaching. Something large was burrowing its way through the tunnels, getting closer, turning a corner, and-

And it’s absolutely huge rocky face just turned a corner and gazed down at the really tiny in comparison Eryn that had just walked into its territory. A giant rock snake gazed at her where she was in its way.



Pokédex Entry #95 – Onix, the Rock Snake Pokémon. It lives deep underground, and it burrows through earth at a staggering 80 km/h in search of food, and it grows harder as it collects material while digging. A magnet in its brain keeps track of which direction it is travelling. The tunnels it creates behind it as it burrows are often used as homes for other Pokémon.


‘Diglett!’ Diglett happily called to the giant Onix. Onix did not react.

Erika inspected the garden. There’s a bunch of seeds for sale which trainers could then plant in their own ground to indefinitely grow their own berries, assuming they wanted to spend the time and energy doing that. She also went and watched a couple battles at the gym. She wasn’t allowed to watch the Gym Leader fight, you need the badge to get to peep on that kind of battle, but she was able to see a few normal challengers going up against the Gym Trainers. And, indeed, Daisy was there, as she had said she was, standing as the second out of three Gym Trainers. No Vivillon, though.

Erika then went and purchased some things at the store.

1 Paralyze Heal. 200

1500 + 1200 + 100 + 200 = 1500 + 1500 = 3000. Erika spent 3000P. Nice and even.

Pokédex Entry #318 – Carvanha, the Savage Pokémon. Territorial and vicious, they’re known to swarm and attack anything that enters their territory. Their strong jaws and sharp teeth are known to have the power to tear out boat hulls. However, when on its own, they turn extremely timid.


- a whole pack of Carvanha jumped out of the water, seeking to consume the hook, line and sinker in its entirety. Very soon one of their sharp teeth cut the line and they swam away with the banana.

‘Ye,, uh, careful, there,’ the fisherman simply said.

Onwards, then, to the ranches!

Skylar eventually arrived to the ranches. They’re a gathering of barns and houses, surrounded by fields of crops and grass-fields. There were scarecrows of some kind dangling in the fields, while in other fields Pokémon were grazing. Here and there are Mareeps, the occasional Miltank strolling about and a ton of Torchic over at that henhouse with a couple Combusken. Because they’re seriously the only hen Pokémon.



Pokédex Entry #179 – Mareep, the Wool Pokémon. It rubs together its coat of wool to generate static electricity that is stored in its fleece, which can more than double in size with enough electricity. This is how it keeps warm, so it discharges the electricity come summer when it’s not needed. The bulb on its tail grows more brightly the more electricity is stored.




Pokédex Entry #241 – Miltank, the Milk Cow Pokémon. It produces five gallons of milk on a daily basis. Its milk is highly nutritious and seem to help combat sickness. While healthy, it is high in calories and should be accompanied by healthy exercise. It is naturally calm and prefer not to fight, but is known to violently roll at enemies if endangered.




Pokédex Entry #255 – Torchic, the Chick Pokémon. It has a flame that burns within its body, which it can take advantage of to spit fire at foes. It is famous for being one of the most comfortably warm Pokémon to hug, thanks to the warmth and fluffy coat. It’s known to struggle in darkness.




Pokédex Entry #256 – Combusken, the Young Fowl Pokémon. It toughens up its legs running across fields and mountains. It legs possess both speed and power, said to be able to deliver ten kicks a second. During a battle, the hot flame in its body increases, allowing to spew powerful fire from its beak.


‘Hey! Young trainer!’



A farmer approached Skylar as he came into the ranching area. There was a light smile on the farmer’s lips.

‘You’re just in time! Do you want to work for me? I need to leave for a while, and I need someone to keep my ranch safe. There’s a bunch of birds that wants to feed on my crops, and my scarecrows just aren’t helping! There’s also a bunch of foxes that like to catch my hens, so watch out for that. There’s also snakes, who can come from unexpected angles, careful. Oh, and there’s wolves… I think they’re wolves… and little lions among them trying to take my sheep, so if you could take that into account, that’d be nice.’

‘Here’s a rough drawing of the situation,’ the farmer said, handing over a piece of paper… that Skylar obviously couldn’t see well what was on himself, but still…



‘Do this for me, and I’ll pay you 7,500P. I’ll deduct a bit for each time you fail. Please, assist me! Save our ranch!’

So the farmer asked.

‘I-I’m not seeing Pokémon as tools!’ Jonas objected, looking horrified at the implication. ‘My Vanillite… was released by her trainer in the midst of Redcoast City. I saved her, when nobody else would, as she was melting in the hot streets… I’ve been caring for her and been her friend ever since!’ Jonas attempted, Vanillite floating about looking at him in worry as he did. ‘It’s just that… some Pokémon are classified as dangerous to humans, but…’ It did look like Jonas had something complicated on his mind.

Amelia made things easier, however, by giving him a separate thing to focus on. The boy. Jonas nodded with determination. ‘… I will! When he’s free, I shall look after him!’ So he decided.

Then, after that. Aegislash listened to what Amelia had to say, silently and solemnly. At the end of it, the Pokémon simply made a slight, sagely nod, which involved the whole sword-and-shield Pokémon tilting a bit forward.

‘If so my master has decreed, then I will allow such to come to pass. My second duty will become my primary, and that is to ensure these tombs remain a haven to the Pokémon that inhabit them, as well as preserving the history that are contained within these walls. I have no regrets.’ so the young boy next to the Aegislash said, obviously conveying Aegislash’s words.

In the background, the rest of the Team Virtue forces were heading back, Ivory throwing a frown at Jonas who seemed to have decided to remain, while the ghosts of Old Tombs headed back in to where they belonged. Oscar had started dashing over the hill, towards where in the distance the hole in the ceiling that Cresselia had made and Pangoro had expanded still existed. Clearly, he wanted to see what was going on over there.

So, what would Amelia and Dawkin do now?
