Akoni entered the cathedral hall with his accompanied team to be greeted by a demoness of strange form and stranger manners. He might almost think of her as gracious, had it not been for the enslavement of humans and necromantic abomination in the crypt. She introduced herself as Madamma Enepsigos and urged them all to sit rather pleasantly. The old mage's head filled with thoughts of a rabbit having tea. The angel took her invitation immediately, so Akoni figured him the Mad Hatter in this equation. Did that make him Alice? No. Unlike Alice, he was no stranger to these types. Despite the danger Akoni decided to humor the demoness, after mystically scanning the seat and surroundings to ensure he was not in immediate danger.

The old man mulled over her name in his mind. Madamma Enepsigos. Possibly familiar. He tried his best to remember anything about this particular figure in his studies, or perhaps his personal experiences in Hell. Maybe he would come up with something. Maybe not. His memory isn't what it used to be. Damn it all. Even his senses weren't what they used to be. The demon addressed another of her kind, one that Akoni hadn't sensed. He checked around to find Blair and silently chastised himself. Sloppy. Arrogant. Set in your ways. You're not as skilled or powerful as you used to be, you need to remain ever vigilant! How could you have missed that? Blair was vaguely familiar to him. He hadn't seen her personally, but he knew of her presence in the Cairn not two days before. When Sevrin stole the Yamato and destroyed a seal...

Akoni pulled his thoughts together and focused. Mundus was a task to handle at a later time, as were his servants. For now, he was on official DHO business and his attention was required for Madamma Enepsigos. Clearly she was powerful to be able to warp space like this. If it was merely an illusion, then it served as a testament to her power regardless, as Akoni could not tell the difference, and warping space was his own specialty. "Madamma Enepsigos, my name is Akoni," he introduced himself, with a tone of insistence, one that said you should already be familiar with my work. "For what purpose are you here? By your own accounts the humans here have not been entertaining. I would not associate someone of your status with a deliberate waste of time. Not unless your goal all along was to attract outside attention."

Arsenal had finally been recruited, and safely brought to the Icehouse hideout, whereupon the rest of the Jacks showed him around the hidden basement headquarters. Although Broker had definitively been absent, he had left a single key with a room number for one of the upper lofts specifically for Arsenal's use. While there, the group was able to meet back with Sofia and learn a bit of their group dynamic, perform a little show and tell (for as much as each individual was willing to provide) and explore the resources available to them. Naturally, one of the items on the group's to do list was to go over the file for their assigned job the next day. On interstate 25, at approximately 3:00 p.m., a prison transport was to be moving North through the city of Lone Tree, Colorado, just a few miles South of Denver proper. Aboard the transport was a villain known to the public as Gamble, assumed to be a thinker with the ability to have an abnormally high rate of success the more risky an action was. Two PRT escorts were to flank the transport, and according to the information provided by Broker it was believed that one of the local Protectorate Heroes would be in one of the transport vehicles. Which one was unknown, so they had to prepare themselves for any potential threat.

The next day came and the Jacks had arrived to the location they could set themselves up. Interstate 25 was a long stretch of highway with four lanes southbound and three lanes northbound. The road's western edge hugged against large hills and the base of a mountain, curving to match the topography of the landscape. The eastern edge dropped off a short but steep hill leading into a wide and open plain with nothing resembling any measure of cover. A waist high median separated the opposite sides of the highway. At this point in the day, traffic was sporadic, but constant, both northbound and southbound. How the Jacks wanted to set themselves up, how they would strike, and what strategies they were to employ, was entirely up to the group.
Decision is made, and announcement shall be made riiiiight..... Now.

I have weighed the options, and have highly considered both applicants. In terms of credentials, Solokolos has the edge. However, by his own admission, he does not have as much free time for updates as Elispe. This I have considered, along with the fact that Solokolos has a Ward as well as an independent character, and naturally he cannot GM update his own character. Therefore, with these considerations in mind, congratulations to @Eklispe. Thank you both, you're wonderful people. Eklispe, we'll talk either in PM or skype to coordinate some things.

Edit: And I'll be sure to work on getting the Jacks' update out today at lunch like I was able to manage for the Wards on Friday.
Shows what you know. I read everything in a western accent.

Sonar was down. The concrete ground had been stained with his blood and cranial fluid. The Wards each eacted in their own way, showing their own variations of concern. 911 had been called, just as Messiah contacted the PRT directly. In a manner of minutes an EMS had arrived, escorted by a few PRT troopers. The emergency medical workers moved in, relieving Messiah of her position watching over her fallen leader. After that everything had come as a blur. People tried to flood the area to see what had happened, and for the most part had been kept at bay by the PRT and remaining Wards. A news van had arrived and began filming the scene just as Sonar had been loaded up into his ambulance. A few stray media workers attempted to take advantage of the fact that Sonar's helmet had been smashed in a futile effort to photograph his secret identity. Those individuals were promptly arrested.

Within an hour the Wards, sans their injured leader, had been gathered back in the same conference room they had been in just a few hours earlier. The scene appeared very familiar as each individual took the same seats, but some were missing. Sonar, of course, was in intensive care. Captain Morales and Noble were also noticeably absent. The holographic projection of Decoy took his chair, with Protean nearby and Inkscape as well. Decoy's face was difficult to read, not because it was a light projection, but because he was so damn good at maintaining a neutral expression. Inkscape was clearly saddened despite having such an alien appearance. Protean appeared distant, as though he was someplace else. Truth was he would rather have been anywhere else at that time.

There was no mistaking the emotional state of Director Kens. He stood, not sat, at the head of the table looking down at each of the capes under his command. Though he did not outwardly express anything the very air around him bubbled with the heat of rage and anger. Kens was a short fuse bomb, and that fuse had already been lit. Thankfully, when he spoke, he maintained a calm and pleasant demeanor. His rage would not be taken out on the Wards. Not today.

"You all know that I am not one for flowery speeches, nor pomp or circumstance. I am direct. Short and to the point has always been my policy. I am disappointed. The PRT, and by extension the Protectorate and its Wards, are a peacekeeping organization, but a symbol above all else. Today that symbol has failed Denver. Questionable judgments were made, and as a result our most experienced Ward is now three floors down in intensive care. As your team leader it was Sonar's responsibility to report the activity he had found directly to a member of the Protectorate team, or to myself. Instead he gathered you all to go off half cocked and he paid the price. We're lucky that only one of you got hurt. The doctor's report that he received medical assistance quickly enough, so he should be able to recover from his physical injuries assuming the operation goes off without a hitch. We have the quick response of Margrave and Messiah to thank for that. Good job. He shouldn't die. That being said, his actions placed you all in unnecessary danger. It was action without assessment. I'm sure Sonar thought he had gathered all the information he needed and could improvise on the fly, but the results clearly demonstrate otherwise. And that is why, effective immediately, I am decommissioning Sonar from the Wards. If he ever puts on his costume again, it will be as a parahuman unaffiliated with the Protectorate and the PRT."

The three Protectorate heroes glanced amongst themselves, exchanging worried looks, before Inkscape spoke up. "Is that really fair, Director? With all due respect, Sonar's actions saved seven hostages from the Community. We still don't know what Patriarch is collecting these people for, and he's hardly in any position to defend himself right now." Protean nodded in agreement, while Director Kens' brow furrowed.

"And in doing so endangered the lives of his team, children, who are able to help far more than seven hostages. I am looking toward the long term, Inkscape. That is why my decision is final. Collin Harrison no longer has a place in this organization. The PRT will pay for all of his medical bills, care for him until his final recovery, and commission a new helmet, but his work here is done."

This time Decoy was the first to respond. "I am afraid the argument is a moot point. Collin is done as a cape forever." Director Kens raised an eyebrow and was about to speak, but Decoy continued in a formal informative tone. "I am afraid that commissioning a new helmet for him will be improbable at best, and impossible in all likelihood. His helmet was designed by the original tinker, by Hero. Since Hero's death at the hands of the Siberian, few of his technologies have been able to be replicated by other tinkers, including Collin's helmet."

A stunned silence fell over the room, interrupted by Protean. "What do you mean, babe? What's so important about his helmet?"

Director Kens took the opportunity to cut in, firmly re-establishing his authority over the various supermen in the room. "It means that you haven't been keeping up on the files of the kids you are partly responsible for training. Collin Harrison's powers are uncontrolled. That helmet helps him to filter through the tremendous amount of static and background noise he constantly picks up in order to prevent him from completely losing his mind. Without it, he'll be in a coma as the constant sound assaults his brain from an uncountable number of sources, forcing his body into shutdown. That is the best case scenario. Worst case he'll be living in constant pain, incapable of telling what's in front of him from what's half a mile away, until he suffers a complete psychotic break."

Protean's eyes widened, his relaxed position stiffening as he realized the severity. The same realization that all the Wards should have been having. Sonar, Collin, was permanently out of the game. Not just the superheroing, but life itself. He'd either be stuck in a hospital bed unconscious for the remainder of his lifetime, or locked in a padded cell where he can suffer alone without harming anybody else.

"In any case, you'll all be updated with Collin's status once he comes out of the operating room. So I need to transition the topic of discussion to a different avenue of business. With Sonar gone, leadership of the Wards falls to the second in command. Messiah, you are officially promoted to leader of the Wards effective immediately. It is your duty to watch out for your team, call the shots in the absence of a senior Protectorate hero, determine training and patrol schedules, and to report directly to myself and Inkscape. I understand that this is a difficult position you find yourself in, and you all will need some time to decompress and reflect on changes. That being said, I expect to receive your recommendation for a new second in command by the end of tomorrow. You are all dismissed."

A great deal had happened in a very short period of time. The Wards, while heroes, were still teenagers. No doubt there was a great deal to process for each of them. They now had time to themselves and could spend it however they wished, whether it was to go home and spend time with family, enjoy the facilities at PRT headquarters, bond with teammates, approach the senior heroes, or anything else they desired. The group was not expected to report for any official duties until 8:00 am the next day.
So you all probably noticed that there's no update. That's because despite there having been a snowstorm that blocked traffic and never stopped snowing all day, my office did not close down or delay as was forecasted by my superiors. Which is highly annoying. >.> To that end, I'll work on getting an update today at lunch. It won't be a full update, but I will post whatever I can manage to actually finish in that time frame, then get the rest of it out ASAP.

@Eklispe@solokolos, thank you both for volunteering for the position of co-GM to help me out. Eh, who am I kidding? To help out all the other players. At this point I don't deserve to say that I'm receiving the help. Anyway, unless you guys duke it out in a death battle to determine who gets it (or go a more civil route, but where's the fun in that?) I'll formulate a decision by tomorrow. Eklispe, since I already know Daltyn's credentials as he's in the skype group, I'd recommend you post or PM me your qualifications (how familiar you are with the setting/source material, any past GM experience, etc.).
Hey guys, I've got to apologize for not getting to update when I said I would. Things have been crazy. Work with overtime, family stuff, aunt in surgery, pregnant girlfriend birthday preparation, it's all a big hassle. I don't want to make excuses, though. When I make a promise, I should fulfill it, and I haven't done that. Tonight and tomorrow there's a snowstorm that has a good chance of getting me the day off, or at least a couple hours delay. I'll get an update out during that time.

And I'm still looking for a co-GM to help me with updating the independents, in case anybody is wondering. Having that stress off of my shoulders would be a tremendous help.
Alright, looks like the only plot relevant character that hasn't updated is Chatterbox, but I don't think we need him at the moment. I won't be able to get an update out today, but tomorrow for sure. Wards will have their mission wrapped up and get a little bit of downtime to recover, the Jacks will get timeskipped to the first mission (@Eklispe will be able to jump in and participate, woo!), and independents will get their own updates as per normal.

@PlatinumSkink Would you like an event to occur or are you good on your own for the moment being?
"You all have a good time killing Nefas! I'm going to free the rest of us!" V declared, once he had ensured that every prisoner that was willing had been armed with one of his quick and dirty enchantments. With that, he turned round to head even deeper within the prison asylum. His words were, of course, bold faced lies, but they would be good for this group's morale and thus increase their chances of surviving long enough to cause Nefas some sort of inconvenience. Maybe they would even surprise the poison spirit and kill the warden! No, of course not. Perhaps, if they were lucky, a serendipitous strike would weaken the cambion enough that V's entourage would be able to do os, but not them.

Villiam did continue moving further into the place though. He had someplace to be. Someplace where a certain rat demon had likely already gotten, and if V knew Kritch like he thought he did based on the small amount of analysis he could perform before this mission, he knew that Kritch was going to need assistance with the last line of defense. Somebody as important as Betty? There was no way even the most idiotic of cambion's would skimp on security.

Villiam was not disappointed. As soon as he melted his way through the wall into the maximum security wing, his eyes rested upon a bloody sight as Kritch was locked in combat with some random soul with a uniform marking him as the head of security. Though the man was bloodied and appeared to be weak, something about his posture and composure told Villiam otherwise. This was a man well versed in dealing with threats far larger and more dangerous than himself. Villiam smiled. Reminded him of his own nature. Then Villiam saw the name on the uniform: Mike Schmidt. That felt familiar, and his smile drifted away. "I feel like I know you..." V muttered, just loud enough to be heard by those paying attention. "That's no good. Familiarity is horrific for a man like me. You see, it means... Well, it means..." V's smile then returned in the most horrific manner possible. Muck and grime oozed and dripped down his face, connecting upper and lower lips together in a disturbing and threatening grin to combine joy and loathing.

"It means that I was incapable of finishing you before!" Villiam shouted a guttural growl of those final words as he released a gaseous glob directly at Head Guard Schmidt's head, the same gathering of pure ozone he had been saving since his first encounter with Poncho.
