Epsilon: This is No Decoy

@solokolos

The door that Decoy had led Ira to was a highly advanced sliding steel door locked by magnetism. There was no handle, no buttons to press. The unlocking mechanism was a nearby combination retinal and palm scanner, holographic of course, projected from a small camera next to the door. If Decoy's word was to be believed, it was unlocked for Ira, and so... Yes. As soon as she applied her hand and held an eye to the scanner, the door rushed open with the signature "whoosh" of a vacuum replacing the air. It led to a small chamber large enough only to hold maybe four or five people, with another magnetic door on the other end. As soon as Ira stepped into the chamber, the door behind her sealed itself. From two cameras on opposite walls a holo-grid was projected, scanning the entire chamber from top to bottom, logging Ira's presence. After a second the grid vanished, the projectors shut off, while a computerized voice emanated from... Somewhere. "Ward: Epsilon. Access - Approved."

The second door opened with the same vacuum sound, granting Ira access to Decoy's personal room. A grid lined the entire place, which was about thirty feet in length as well as width. The entire thing was reminiscent of classic Star Trek episodes. The entire room was one big hologram projector. A single figure stood at the center, unseen, masked by dozens of holographic screens floating around simultaneously. With a wave of one hand, the screens were dismissed allowing the figure to walk toward Ira. Decoy was... Not as advertised. A tall 5'9" with slender, beautiful skin and a lithe soft body, she made for a gorgeous Japanese woman. Her brown-red hair hung just barely below the shoulders, and she carried herself with a measure of grace to match the flowery blouse and blue skirt she wore.

<"Riese-chan, I am glad to make your acquaintance in person, after all our tutoring sessions."> As she spoke, the door slid shut behind Ira. It was just the two of them, now completely alone. <"I apologize for ordering you to hold your tongue, Riese-chan. It was distasteful, to say the least. But necessary at the time. You all are required to attend therapy for what happened tonight. Imagine the psychological damage the other Wards would have suffered if they knew? That is assuming they wouldn't have become too distracted to survive. Please, make yourself comfortable, Reise-chan. We shall talk."

Decoy waved her left hand in an oddly specific gesture, which seemingly conjured a red sofa chair near Ira. Though it was a light projection, Decoy's tinker technology had made it quite real. Hard light. That was a new one she hadn't ever shared with the Wards before.

The Broker shook his head a little low at the sudden influx of questions. He was not used to being accosted in such a manner, and to be honest he cared very little for it. His first instinct was to dismiss it with a wave, but no. That would not do, would it? Instead he poured himself another glass, then began to speak with everyone. "You've all earned some explanation, I suppose, and a good chinwag never hurt anybody. Well," He glanced at Chatterbox with a knowing smile. "Almost anybody. Very good."

The Broker downed his drink in one go, set his glass back on the bar, then continued. "I don't interact with powers. Not directly. I interact with the source of powers. Your... Passengers, you might call them. Every parahuman has this thing that gives their powers, and I control those things directly. But that's enough about me. I hate talking about myself, worst sodding topic." He took the box that Heartless had produced and gently caressed it on the bar top. "Whimsy, would you be a good lass and dispose of the... Extras? Like you did a few weeks ago? Apologies for the mess, but the second was defective as well. You see, her power didn't function at all. A non-functional Whimsy was no use to us, and on the streets would have been a liability. I don't deal in loose ends. If Love Craft still had a functioning brain, you could ask them."

At this point he stopped his caressing and keyed in a small code on a number pad the case had. It popped open with a small hiss as the insides of the case repressurized. "Hm. Nice to see the bloody wankers haven't changed the master code." he mumbled. The boss man then lifted up the top of the case, revealing its contents: six colored vials. "Since you've earned it, what we are doing here has to do with these. None of you are aware, but there is another way to gain powers beyond a trigger event. There are people out there who sell powers. A secretive group, like a real world Illuminati." He closed the case once again, a smirk of satisfaction across his face.

"The more information you have on them, the more danger you're in. You've heard rumors of the Bogeyman, right? She works for them." There seemed to be a certain amount of venom as he emphasized that word. "It seems we have stopped the Community from bringing in six new parahumans into their organization. Capital work gentlemen, and lady. Capital indeed. One step closer to taking down that thick sod Patriarch."

The Broker stood up from his bar stool, taking hold of the box. It was just about time to take his leave. "The money is in your accounts. Thank you for your services tonight. I won't have another task for you for another three weeks. Until then, relax, assist one another on any jobs you'd like to get done amongst yourselves, and prepare your silver tongues. It's about time to call all the villain factions to neutral territory for a meeting to discuss The Community. Anything else I can do for you before I pop off?"
Guys, it’s been 5 days and not a single post. Come on.
@TheWindelthank you for your prompt response and not leaving me hanging.
@TheWindel You have not made a response since I answered your question. Do you have any more questions? Are you interested? Not?
I’m just going to leave this here for anybody who hasn’t seen it in the Discord yet... roleplayerguild.com/topics/171209-hel…

@TheWindel Thatd be a negative, good buddy. Demons the warlocks have Pacts with aren’t hanging around, and their summoning is a really big deal as it involves the most costly sacrifice in a Pact.
First I'll say is that I'm not 100% certain that I'll be making this game with as busy as I am, so it largely depends on how strong the interest shown is.

From around the world a group of occultists and warlocks are called together in the city of Boston, MA, where they are tasked with investigating some otherworldly activity by a mysterious benefactor. From there they will work together, or against one another should the case be, to unravel a series of interconnected mysteries such as abductions, human sacrifice, and demonic summonings. Characters have access to a few low level magic spells themselves, but nothing more potent than your standard tracking/location magic, divinations, basic low-end telekinesis, etc. These are not full fledged wizards and masters of the mystic arts. In fact, those don't really exist at all, as humans don't have the capacity for magics much stronger than this. But what does have access to much stronger abilities, and what the occultists have access to, are demons.

Now this doesn't mean the modern Abrahamic take on fire and brimstone demons hailing from the depths of Hell for eternal damnation, no. This is an older take on the concept, otherworldly beings and spirits capable of acting as guides, teachers, and minions for humans in exchange for something. Now don't get me wrong, the modern idea of the dreadful demon from Hell is a very distinct possibility (and will in fact happen) but they can be just about any kind of mystical being that survives just outside of human perception, and they are not all evil, but they are all dangerous. Each one operates on its own view of morality that is not comparable to our own. A spirit of fire doesn't burn because it's evil, it burns because it has to. A dryad protects the forest above all else and cannot compromise that, whether its planting a few seeds or killing the construction workers bulldozing the trees, because it is incapable of acting any other way just as you and I are incapable of choosing not to breathe.

In addition to the minor magics your occultist/warlock will have access to, they will have formed Pacts with 1-2 demons which gives them access to that creature's "Gifts." A spell, trait, or knowledge that the demon can bestow upon the warlock if they call for it. As an extension of the Pact, the warlock can also summon any demon they've made a Pact with to aid them directly. However, everything comes with a price, and no such creature will be offering their services freely. Every use of a demon's "Gift" builds up the debt a little more, and direct intervention, well, that's some costly service indeed. So the question is, how much are you willing to sacrifice to get what you want?

Looking for 5-7 players to be chosen on a merit basis, I do not operate on first come first serve. Let me know if you're interested, or if you have any questions, and I'll be happy to address them. Thank you.
@Lugubrious@yoshua171@BCTheEntity We have officially hit day 7 from my last update, and thus begins the 5 day period. For Wards updating at this point isn't necessary so there's no penalties, but I'd still like to see the Wards wind down/recover from the horrible events they've experienced. The Jacks however still have a little bit more to get done so they are mandatory. Let's get us moved on into the next time period, my friends. :)
The other pirate captain observed the Red Rums with a bright smile as his own men made the necessary preparations for them to properly meet. Boone and Bonesword each offered up their own questions, which he waved off, if only temporarily. "We'll save the conversation for when we're all comfy and I'm playing a good host, eh? Omnomnomnom!" One by one the Red Rums were crossing over, or carried over in the case of Dirk and Lilliana. Dirk tried to jump across, but was caught by Caesar, while Lilliana simply didn't have the strength to move herself after the amazing stunt she had pulled. That's when Slick made his dramatic entrance, completely misreading the situation. The pirate captain cocked his head while Slick swung through the air on his oil, blinded and seeing only red. Nobody from the Red Rums had stepped up to stop the crazy cook from going off the deep end, so someone else had to take matters into their own hands.

"Nesting magpie!" Slick's tunnel vision, coupled with an excellent affinity for stealth, prevented him from properly seeing a series of knives and shuriken thrown from the shadows. Each one caught his clothing and pinned him down onto the deck of the ship, while a figure clad entirely in black, but wearing a traditional pirate hat, eyepatch, and fake beard over his black facemask, landed atop Slick's back with a heavy pound. Using his left hand, the figure forced Slick's head down, while a hidden blade shot out of his right sleeve. The man held it against Slick's temple. "Hostile subdued, cap'n."

"OMNOMNOMNOM! Such a spirited bunch you all are!" the captain laughed. "Let his mates handle him, eh Smith? Everyone, join me in the galley! I've prepared a feast the likes of which you've never tasted!" The captain waved everyone toward a cabin door leading deeper into his ship, while the one now known as "Smith" got up off of Slick. Feya pulled the ship chef up, clearing the knives and shuriken from his clothes and began lecturing him on the importance of paying attention to his surroundings, and the best way to do that was a proper diet for heightened senses and information processing and ohgodshewastalkingaboutthefoodpyramidagain.

Once inside the galley, the Red Rums were treated to the sight of a long table with multiple places set, enough to include everyone. At first glance it would appear that this captain had planned to bump into the others and invite them to lunch, but those who were especially observant would notice the places had been set only in the immediate present. What might have been stranger was that they had only empty bowls, spoons, and a large quantity of milk to go around. Were they... Were they supposed to be drinking milk from bowls, with spoons? Well regardless, one by one a number of the ship's own crew entered the galley with the Red Rums and took their seat. The first, of course, was the captain guiding them along and generally acting the good host.

"Welcome aboard the Guppy! Omnomnom! I'm the captain here. The name is Bartholomew K. Runch!"

"I'll get your lunch started, my lovely guests! Omnomnomnomnom!" The captain went around the table, milk jug in hand. At each bowl he produced a large quantity of cereal from his bare hand, before drowning it in milk. Each bowl seemed to be slightly different, whether it be texture, color, or something else. Once each bowl had been filled up, the captain took his seat at the head of the table. "Thanks to the power of the bori bori no mi, my body can produce any kind of cereal that I've ever personally eaten in my lifetime. Since I'm a cereal chef, it certainly suits me! Omnomnomnom! I've sized each of you up and gauged what kind of cereal you'd best enjoy. Please, dig in!"

Feya was cautious, bordering on the paranoid. Certainly this couldn't be part of a healthy lunchtime meal? However once she tried it she found it to not only be incredibly tasty, but also bursting with nutrition of vitamins! The same would go for each of the Red Rums to try their own bowls. Each one had been tailored to their exact tastes. This Runch guy had to be a master of his craft, to be able to size up their personal tastes after just a few seconds of looking them over!

"Let's not be rude to our guests. Everyone, introduce yourselves! Omnomnom!" Runch waved at each of his crew at the table. The first to speak up was the man who had earlier subdued Slick. A most peculiar man dressed entirely in black cloth, hiding every one of his physical features, yet he wore such a paper-thin disguise. Surely that eyepatch, hat, and beard wouldn't be fooling anybody, right? Well, there were plenty of idiots in the world...

"Smith Smithson Smithington. The third." He spoke quickly and efficiently. Though his eyes remained hidden (one of them twice over!) the Red Rums couldn't help but feel he was glaring at them all. He already had three empty bowls at his place. When did he have the time to eat all of that?!

"Hachirou," spoke the next, a tall, well built and muscular man with chiseled features. His long black hair looked more like a mane, and he wore only a simple open vest with his pants, opting to go not only shirtless, but also barefoot. A machete hung from his side. As he introduced himself the man was performing squats with weights on his shoulders. Feya immediately took notice.

"Heeeey now!" shouted a rather annoying man, clearly the most drunk in the room by a longshot. He was quite muscular, but more toned and slim than Hachirou, with a bit of a nerdy appearance with his short blue trimmed hair and bookish glasses. rather than milk, his cereal was filled with booze, yet he had another bottle of booze in his left hand. He swayed as he introduced himself, slurring not just his words, but his very movements. "Ish my tuuurn. Wutong *hic* Ken. M.D. Pleashooor to meet yoush." M.D.? Let's hope nobody was hurt bad enough to need medical attention on his watch...

And that seemed to be everyone present. So why was captain Runch, and the others, looking expectantly up above them? Those who followed the Krunch Krew's line of sight would inevitably see some sort of hammock situated across the ceiling. Swaying in the hammock was a small mammal, a honey badger. Now why a honey badger would have been swinging in a hammock was unusual enough, but this particular honey badger had to take its peculiarities to another level, for it wore a cowboy hat, had two revolvers strapped to his side, and was enjoying a bowl of the captain's cereal.

"Oh fine, y'all're just gonna keep starin' at me I might's well break the silence. Can' just let a badger eat in peace, canya? Joanne Schrodinger. Call me Jo or I'll pop a cap in your ass you'll never see comin'."
