The Cereal Killer

@Lugubrious

Runch couldn't help but give out a hearty laugh at how utterly serious his competition was. It really was just his lot in this tournament to be constantly pitted up against pessimists and the scorned, wasn't it? "OMNOMNOMNOMNOM!" His mustache wiggled and twitched in time with his laughter. The pirate closed the journal, and pocketed it once again. Cyril had no idea that by engaging in the conversation, he'd already given Runch a huge advantage. "I do not want to fight if I can avoid it, no, and I do not enjoy the situation we share at this time. I am a humble cereal chef who wants only to live life freely, and to provide for my loyal crew."

At this point Runch completely let his guard down by taking a seat, cross-leg style, leaning on his spoon-saber which had dug into the earth. In a way, he was testing Cyril. The journal described him as relentless, but also tactical. Would the knight, or perhaps the shrine maiden, take advantage of this incredibly poor maneuver? Perhaps. Perhaps not. Erina stood nearby, still aghast at the poor decisions Runch had been making, wondering to herself if his victory over both her and Motley hadn't been a complete fluke. A stroke of extreme luck.

"If you don't have any intention of backing down now, then I can't argue you out of it. It isn't the place of a man to change another man's mind anyway. I just want to see more smiles as I continue my journey. But I'm not convinced you're entirely convicted in your goals here, Mr. Boniface. You just said yourself it's not all worth it. So tell me, has the College broken the terms of their own rules and attacked you too?"

The Murder

@Lugubrious

Samuel's eyebrows rose up for a second before returning to their normal place. The bizarre man had to have sensed that he had taken some coin from his pocket. Why else would he have described Sam as having "sticky fingers?" Finding someone who could watch his hands so closely was a rarity indeed. That just meant that Samuel was even more wary than before. Trust issues were so difficult to put aside, especially when one wakes up in a new and dangerous world without explanation.

Cautiously his fingers moved toward his own pocket, curious as to what this thing was that the man said he already carried with him. Samuel had a number of things in his pockets. Coins, cards, knives, clothes, and numerous other props to aid in his illusions at any given time, but there wasn't a single thing he would have described as "yucky" or having "stomach-churning writhe." Then, just before the tips of his fingers dipped below the pocket line, he remembered something else the odd man had said, and stopped. "You said that you had over three dozen customers and implied they were unaware. What did you mean by that? Is this associated with that contest I've heard from the kitsune?" The longer he delayed, the more his horror cried out to be satisfied. To be fed. To terrorize this man and devour his delicious fear. Run him off, let him know it is wrong to toy with others, lies by omission are still lies and are wrong! Rip and tear his flesh, make him cry out and feed feed feed NO! ... Maybe later.
The Wards: The Day is Over, Time to Relax

@Old Amsterdam@Lugubrious@solokolos@yoshua171@BCTheEntity

Director Kens listened intently to what each of the Wards had to say. The underlying rage seething through his pores slowly deflated, lessening and lessening until it had vanished completely, leaving only the forlorn image of a sad man. His body language never altered though. He was a solid stoic through to the end. Not once did he interrupt any of the teenagers. Instead he let them vocalize what they needed to. They were still kids, after all, and he had one hell of a soft spot for the kids no matter how berating he was known to be to the adults. They needed an outlet to express their feelings.

Once each had had their little outburst, or lack thereof, the director picked up where he had left off. "I am terribly sorry you've experienced such a traumatic event. If we had known you were going to run into the Jacks, or that the Community had... Dean... We wouldn't have sent you. It would have been an all hands on deck situation for the Protectorate, not something to send the Wards into. I'll expect your official reports by 5 pm tomorrow, and the entire event will be under thorough investigation. Until further notice, the Wards will be suspended from active duty, with full pay. No training, no patrols, you will only focus on your school work. And we'll need to... Assess how you've been affected by this event." For the first time since they entered the room, Director Kens took his seat. He folded his hands together in front of his chest as a bead of sweat slowly rolled down his nose, but he appeared to be unbothered. "You'll have mandatory therapy sessions with Dr. Jackson Odin. First as a preliminary, then he will determine if any continued treatments will be necessary. Don't worry about your work, or the city. Noble and Captain Morales should be fully recovered from their injuries within a few days. Don't make any public appearances or statements, let the PR team handle that. You focus on you."

Kens turned to face the hologram of Decoy, which reciprocated, and waited to be addressed. "Decoy, it goes without saying, but we will be going over your information sources very carefully. The Community was clearly expecting this raid. I don't like it one bit." Even the most distant Ward could tell he was restraining himself from screaming at the adult hero.

Decoy's hologram nodded in acceptance. "I understand, Director. This is most troubling to me as well."

Rather than continue the discussion openly, Kens turned back to the kids. "It's been a very late night. Get some rest. Go home to your parents. Blow off some steam with some recreation. Do whatever you need to do to feel good and refreshed. Your preliminary appointment with Dr. Odin will be set for-" He took a moment to pull up a holographic interface, checking some time tables. "6 pm tomorrow. Tulpa, later this week we will need to schedule additional tests for your powers. We need to determine if what happened was master interference. You're all dismissed."

The director stood up and opened the door for the Wards, personally holding it for them as each one took their leave. Where would they go? How would they reflect on this night of horrors? That was up to them, but for one young Ward, her destination had already been established.

<"Riese-chan,"> came Decoy's voice through Ira's headgear. The hologram nearby hadn't moved. <"I am ready for you. You will not go to the room you are used to. My personal quarters are on floor 47. Suite 4718. I will leave the door unlocked.">

The plan had worked. Naturally Sofia, whether she be clone or original recipe, couldn't possibly dodge or recover from a kick delivered by a man so disproportionately larger than her, trained in the science of death dealing. Just as well the Chatterbox clone couldn't compete with a trained brawler like Thunderbolt. His protection was dealt with swiftly, and he could hardly fight back before being clocked and gagged. Clearly he was pissed, but the man was hardly in a position to do anything about it, was he? He fought through the gag, mumbling inarticulate ramblings and threats which, thankfully, wouldn't be having nearly the save level of effect as if his words had gone unhindered. Thus they were off in a mad dash to avoid getting boxed in by PRT response vehicles, the van peeling away as Thunderbolt jumped majestically through the air, like a pegasus pack-mule carrying the two Sofias.

Through a combination of blind luck, a confusing driving route, and pure skill, the Jacks made it back to their headquarters without picking up a tail. Through it all the cloned Chatterbox made his displeasure quite well known. How dare they do this to him? He had been completely cooperative! They were pissing away a great opportunity, just pissing it away! Broker would see things differently. Broker was a smart man, a man of business who looked at a situation with a certain cold objectivity. He'd be ecstatic at the opportunity to have two Chatterboxes to manipulate Denver to his whims! And speaking of whims, Whimsy! The moniker they'd assigned to Sofia! Her ability doubled could create such great opportunity. Yes, the Broker would see how his Jacks had been paranoid idiotic rubes.

The villains entered their joint home to find the Broker already sitting and waiting at the bar. He had poured himself a glass of cinnamon rum, sampling it in small sips. Soon as the shadows of the Jacks crossed over to his stool, the man turned round to face them in earnest. He looked somewhat displeased, but as soon as he laid his eyes on the duplicates, his expression changed to confusion. Only a second passed and he seemed to have garnered some sort of understanding of the situation. The Broker set down his glass and approached the second Chatterbox, but spoke to the Jacks as a whole. "The job should have been simple. A quiet retrieval. But the police scanners tell a different story, eh?"

Once within arm's reach of the duplicate he pulled out the gag, finally allowing the newly dubbed "Blabbermouth" the opportunity to speak unabated. "ARGH! Many thank yous, Broker. If I could trouble you for a spot of that rum, I'd very much like to. The taste should be more agreeable to my palate than what currently resides there." Those who had felt his power working on their minds previously no longer felt that subtle influence. The copy of Sofia said nothing, instead trying her very best to blend into the floor like a lost piece of lint. The Broker made no motion to retrieve a drink, and so Blabbermouth continued. "We're just like the originals. We were made by some freak called Overrun to kill them, but we want to join you!" Blabbermouth's words and tone became more and more desperate as he saw the unfeeling look in Broker's eye go unchanged. "Two Chatterboxes! Two Whimsys! We can do so much for you, and I won't need to be paid as much as the original, boss. Think about that?"

The Broker shook his head, seemingly relenting as he reached back to grab his glass of rum. Blabber looked hopeful as the Broker raised the glass in front of him, but his hopes were dashed as Broker drained the glass himself and placed the now empty vessel on the countertop. "You're a quantum duplicate, the two o'you. Near identical copies of the originals created from a theoretical shift in spacetime. An alternate version that never should have existed, right mates?" Blabbermouth seemed contemplative of the idea, following along but unsure where Broker was going. Duplicate Sofia didn't understand any of it. She just wanted to go to bed. "But that's the thing, right? 'Near' identical. I'll bet fifty pounds you don't even know that your power has been active since the moment you were made. You can't turn it off, y'see." Judging by Blabber's expression, he genuinely hadn't realized it. "An' that's the thing. I can't use you if you can't turn it off. No good to me at all. Quite the opposite, really. A massive detriment. Because the damage you can cause could attract 'her' attention, and I've no intention of letting her find me. So-"

Pew! Pew!

Out of nowhere the Broker had produced a small silenced pistol from his jacket and quickly put a bullet in both of their heads. The two fell to the floor, instantly slain by the weapon. Thankfully, it did not reflect back onto the originals. Drake and Sofia had been spared.

"Funny thing, that." The Broker cleaned the muzzle of his gun's suppressor, then pocketed it once again. "I see there were complications, but hopefully nothing you lot couldn't handle. Did you find the box?"
I honestly have absolutely no idea how you could come to that conclusion whatsoever. A discussion about in-character motivation does not equate to players attempting to peer pressure another out of the game itself. I'd go deeper into it, but Eklispe pretty much said everything there is to say, but I will add one more thing. Try not to take things personally when they really aren't.
Disaster was coming in hard and fast! The summit of Reverse Mountain pooled up the four currents like a whirlpool before ejecting the water back down. This made the situation especially difficult to deal with, and most of the Red Rums were ignoring their captain’s orders. Thankfully, it was to make themselves useful in other ways, suited to each of their unique talents. The other ship’s crew could be seen doing their best as well, and quite a colorful group were they! But now wasn’t the time to stop and gawk.

The trees Bonesword sprouted did a great job at slowing the Rum Runner’s trajectory. What they also did was completely throw off the ship’s course. The current still carried them in the same direction, but not straight. They were spinning. Even better at slowing them, and helping to stabilize their course, was Lilliana’s contribution with her B-MO. The spinning slowed and nearly came to a total halt! But they really started going places once Kite managed to juryrig some repairs on the mast. Enough even that Dirk had some measure of control over the ship!

Aided by Caesar’s raw strength, Dirk was able to direct the Rum Runner properly, albeit with intense difficulty. Narrowly missing a series of rocks, the Rum Runner made it to the mouth of the downward channel! As long as she kept steady, they were home free! Down, down, down they went, picking up more and more speed as gravity worked on the ship! The end was in sight, clouded by the mist of water churning. And they! Were! FREE! Droplets splashed over everyone’s faces as they passed through the curtain of mist. On the other side, nothing but beautiful blue ocean in every direction.

A couple seconds later the other ship emerged as well. The mustachioed man could be heard screaming like a child, gripping his ship’s figurehead. However once they cleared the danger, he instantly decomposed himself. The ship pulled up next to the Rum Runner, and the man addressed them. ”Ahoy there! That was quite a close call, wasn’t it? Shook me right up! Omnomnomnomnom! What luck we had, eh? I’d say it’s a sign! Care to meet up and introduce ourselves? My crew was just about to sit down for some lunch, but you’re welcome to join us! There’s more than enough to go around! Omnomnomnom!”

Assuming the Red Rums took up the mustached man on his offer, he would setup a crossing plank immediately.
I have nothing to add to the current round.
Ok everyone, this round of time is coming to an end. The Wards are debriefing the Director as to what went down on their mission, and the Jacks are about to get back to their own hideout to deliver the mysterious box to Broker. I expect things to go for another 2 updates, maaaaybe 3 but it's doubtful. All you out there that are not part of an independent team, be sure to get your adventures wrapped up, and we'll have another timeskip to the next "chapter" of the game (about 3 weeks this time) and you can post various "interludes" at your discretion.

For the main story teams, the deadline for this post has been pushed back an additional 2 days, simply because I had to rewrite the Ward section of that update. So it's 7 days from that edit.
@propro I see your point Jeff. When I started this I hoped to have everyone begin the journey together. However, as you know, Favian joined after it began. What I would like to happen is that Favian would hear Marque introduce himself as Favian. With that the real Favian would want to get the bottom of his deception and accompany them. Also, Favian knows about the strange happenings that have occurred in the last several weeks, i.e. figures moving in the night, a large troop of soldiers recently passing by and howling noises at night. He could relay this information and prove valuable. Col would be more then intrigued by the howling due to him being attacked by wolves recently. @Eklispe@angelofoctober

I've already had Marque tell the others to not call him Favian to "protect his identity." It's more likely one of them would slip up on this request than it would be fore Marque to break his own act.
Better question, why? I hate to be a negative Nancy but none of us have been setup in a way that we’d want him along... And he has no reason to want to accompany the rest of the group. It’s an unfortunate setup.
Orders were given, and the pirates each took to their stations for this all important trip. Steering was of the utmost importance, which meant that Dirk, with the aid of Caesar, had the most important job in this event. Even entering the mouth of Reverse Mountain's canal would prove to be tricky. Any last second change of wind and they'd be knocked off course just enough for the rapids to send them spiraling out of control! But that wasn't going to happen, not with the excellent navigational skills and eagle eye of their captain, Broadsides Boone! Dirk kept her steady, lined up perfectly with the center of the mouth. As they sailed in closer and closer the ship began to pick up speed. Soon they were pulled in violently by the impossible uphill current. The real test had now begun.

Even those with the most sturdy of sea legs found the sudden jolt to throw them somewhat off balance. The Rum Runner was now shooting up the mountain at a 70 degree angle. Anybody that wasn't holding onto something would wind themselves tossed back rather violently. The sails were pulled up thanks to the good work of Sli-Wait, where was Slick?! Oh no, the sails were never properly put up! The massive upcurrent with the air resistance granted by the sails forced the ship to list starboard! Crash! Large sections of protective vines were torn from the ship as they hugged against the rocky walls! A portion of the mast's crossbeam snapped in two as it hugged that same wall. The Red Rums had left their mark on Reverse Mountain already, here's to hoping they wouldn't leave another! But hey, Bonesword got milk, so that was a great use of time, wasn't it?

Feya and Lilliana managed to get the sails and rigging back into place so the ship's balance was no longer thrown off, but that was only a part of the struggle. Crash! A section of the outer hull was torn away as they hit another rock, just in time for Dirk and Caesar to steer them away from the wall. That didn't mean they were totally back on point though! A larger than average wave tossed the ship up into the air, and it came crashing back down with intense force! Kite had plenty of work going on! Thankfully it was all damage that could be repaired en route, at least so far!

Bonesword's vines were starting to replenish at a rate that could keep up with the crashing and rocking damage as Dirk and Caesar could better stabilize their trajectory. For the first time since starting their uphill ascent, Boone's directions could actually be put to use! Now they were dodging rocks like skilled professionals, instead of blindly flailing about like a drenched bat in a tight cave! The summit was coming closer, and closer, and closer! The Rum Runner launched up into the summit, where all four currents from the four Blue Seas converged! Now there was only one way left to go, right back down-OH CRAP WHAT WAS THAT?!

Despite incredible odds making the event seemingly impossible, which is precisely why it was always guaranteed to happen, another ship was ascending Reverse Mountain at the exact same time from the West Blue! It flew its own Jolly Roger flag signifying it to be another pirate ship. A sloop, to be precise, with a figurehead made to look like a metal spoon. Her own crew was visibly running about in just as much distress as the Red Rums, and for good reason! If something wasn't done quickly, the two ships would collide, no doubt destroying both vessels and likely killing everyone involved!

A single man on the opposite ship, a bit shorter than average, wearing a blue bicorn hat, and sporting an impressive mustache, stepped forward and threw out his hands. In what could only be described as some sort of devil fruit power, tons of small round pellets, innumerable, spewed forth from his palms and into the water. It provided great resistance which slowed his ship down, but it wasn't enough. The Red Rums had to act quickly, or they'd still crash!
@LemonZest1337 Ok, I've reviewed Silvia, and she's good to go. You can put her in the character tab, on the grounds that she's replacing your original character. One dragon Case 53 is enough. :P
