Current I'm a pretty good writer and former site staff; I still deal with imposter syndrome every time I log on. You're definitely not alone. And t's worth trying anyway.

Don't worry, D3AD ST4R, most of us feel like that. <33

I just finished The Secret History, a very Gen X book. Never Let Me Go before that, which I'd recommend to any writer outside the MFA atmosphere who wants to know emotonal restraint.

Let’s try again:

Stick to the purpose of the thread, that’s enough of the sniping and attacks.

Any further violation will result in Mod action and the closing of this thread.
That's enough, folks.
@Odin I was more writing an informative post for some of the users who were confused about how copyright claims work. I've said my peace on artists already: That I don't understand their viewpoint, but feel we should honor a take down request. It creates the least amount of drama, and pictures probably aren't critical to the function of an RP.

It's really the path of least resistance. Or as I put it in private staff channels, "Removing a post from three years ago to comply with this artist's request costs us nothing."

Members seem to have the same general attitudes about the issue that staff does, which is refreshing.

Annnnnd I'm gonna call that a thread. Thanks folks!
To those who gave actual feedback, trying to address the subject at hand, big thanks!

Right now it's looking like we'll add something into site rules about respecting artists removal requests, but that we expect artists to respect the community and come to site staff with issues instead of going directly to a member.
Hola Guildies.

I've been a member of site moderation, on and off, for around two years now. During that time I've seen this issue come up a few times, and each time there's a quick and simple solution; problem is there's always lingering questions. The issue in question? "Stolen" art. That is art posted online that winds up on a CS, or an OOC thread/IntCheck thread.

So here's a hypothetical on how these situations go down from my experience, and I've been involved in three cases of it so far:
  • Person claiming to be artist behind piece of art used on a CS from a RP thread posted 2-3 years ago shows up. Claims to have PMed the person behind the CS, usually doesn't get a response--after a few years that no response isn't really a shock. Then contacts site staff demanding we remove the image.
  • We ask for proof they're the artist behind the image. They provide it.
  • We delete the post in question.

So this naturally raises a few questions.

Should we have a policy for this? We want to help out an artist who has legal claim to a work of art, but at the same time we don't want artists harassing members. Odds are the member didn't "steal" anything, odds are they found the image on Pinterest, or Tumblr, etc, etc. So far deleting the post with the offending image has been an easy solution because the posts have always been so old. What if it's a new post? Obviously we'd contact the member with the image in their CS and ask for it's removal, or should we? What if they say no? Should we edit their posts ourselves?

Any thoughts? Any questions you think are important to consider? Let us know.

Thanks!
@Odin Didn't really think about making a shared account. That may be a good idea but at least for now I'd like to stay with the one I have.

@Ruby I don't see a reason? But maybe someone else will. The Test Forum right now is just a single tab thread and I imagine adding a couple more could only help.

Also thanks for looking into this!

Yup. Let me know if you need anything else.
<Snipped quote by Ruby>

I'd been waiting for about a month or so for some word on other contest mods, or some kind of green light for me to go ahead and start. Even longer for something from Hank, who started the recruitment two(almost three) months ago.

I didn't go directly to either of you to bug you about updates, since I assumed you'd get back eventually. I'm just getting restless, and am eager to revive the Contests section.

I'm not aware of any conversations between Hank and yourself, but I'll PM you in a few.
