Biography: Amelia was born to
John Wintergarden DVM DACVS
Petra Skipper. Her Dad was a respected Veterinarian in the horse world and her mother the owner of a horse farm so a match made in heaven.
Amy was a happy child growing up her family comfortable and safe.
She attended a private school where she took advantage of it’s attention to the students scholastic skills. She was a dedicated student pushing herself so that she could eventually attend Auburn and be a Vet just like her dad; her life was on track then it happened and shattered her plans.
She was nine and about to turn ten when the outbreak was first reported. Her family had a large and remotely placed ranch so in the beginning they were safe from the shambling horrors and they had enough room to take in survivors that found their way to the ranch. Her father though a Veterinarian was soon pressed into seeing human patients and treating their injuries and best of all was that few of the horrors were seen near the Ranch and the ones that they did see were blocked by the fence. It looked as though they might be safe from the horrors outside when they had something worse fall upon them, Bandits, People or Scum.
The Scum in the beginning looked as if they might be able to commit as many atrocities as they’d like but they too discovered how fickle fate was when the Troopers from Lasthope showed up and fell on the beasts like a vengeful tidal wave. Some of the people staying on the ranch felt safe again but her mom who’d always been a practical thinker insisted on moving the whole ranch livestock and anll to Mount Hood
It was shortly after the they sat out the troopers began telling her family about their wonderful home and the safety it offered and how they could use people like her parents and those that followed them in Lasthope as settlers not to mention their odd collection of animals. (45 head of horse, 162 head of cattle, 23 head of lama, 14 donkeys, 12 dogs, and 20 cats. Add to that 3 working
Conestoga wagons, 2
horse carts and skads of farming equipment and tools)
In the beginning her parents allowed some of the cattle to be butchered but pressed hard for a breeding herd that was exempt and and eventual Ranch on grounds of their choosing and were awarded with
The Nova Ranch which sets on 4,000 acres with access to 12 acres of grazing pasture on the hip of Mount Hood.
Always having a good seat Amy became a prolific hunter of deer using her skills in the saddle and a handmade longbow finding the archaic weapon suited to her sense of frugality and her steady seat almost made her a Trooper. Few deer once spotted by her and Andy her Hunter horse along with Max and Dave ever escape.
Personality:Amy is an independent girl who tends to take on tasks without asking for help believing she needs to do things on her own or she’ll appear week and vulnerable. She appears to people watching from the outside to be reckless as she and Andy fly over the terrain at paces that might have once been good enough to get her a seat in international competition but she is actually preparing for the day she might need all her skills to escape some unwanted fate.
A soft hearted girl Amy is still able to cool her emotions when she needs to and do what is necessary to come to the best possible solution (She is thought of as cold blooded because of how she cuts the throat of an injured horse without a tear)

NotesI'd love to have more friends but my age and status puts me in the unenviable position of the "Outsider" because my family and I live two miles from the town and my only acquaintances are the 12 troopers, and 24 hands stationed here to protect the Horses and other Livestock. The strange part is that I have seen at least half of the people that live around me when either I or my mother gave them riding lessons and because I was their Instructor I had to present myself as an authority which means I am referred to as "The Pony Princess" or "Horse Girl" rarely by my name; I suppose it is why I always seek out books when scavenging.
