Name: Piotr Rasputin "Colossus"

History:

Piotr (Known as Peter in America) was born on a soviet collective farm before the fall of the Union in 1987. When he was only three years old his brother being a cosmonaut went missing. His parents would become overcome with grief and when his little sister came along Piotr vowed to becoem the best big brother he could. Though as time went on Piotr grew, he continued to stay at home working on farmland as the Soviet Union disbanded and Serbia gained it's independence. Before his mutation he became a central part of the community. He was big and strong, though he had a soft heart caring for everyone else.

At the age of 13 his mutation took hold, his body would spontaneously turn to metal without so much of a thought. His strength would increase drastically, he'd weigh more and he'd even be taller. He became a recluse for a couple of months as he struggled with his mutation, having little links to the outside world and living in a small community it was a large change. While he did eventually gain control of his mutation he continued to be shunned and distrusted by the community. He didn't let it dissuade him but life became tough.

At the age of fifteen Piotr was contacted by a man who claimed to be a representative of a institution called Xaviers School for Gifted Youngsters who worked primarily with cases such as his. He also warned that if he had heared about it, it would only be a matter of time before the local Government found out about it. Fearing for the wellbeing of his little sister Piotr headed to the states where he would then attend the school in Westchester. He struggled at English at first, having to spend extra time in lessons. Though soon he learned that this place was so much more than a school. It was sanctuary, where they could be themselves and learn to use their powers for good. He took to walking around in his full metallic form more often than not. 

He wouldn't come to know of the existence of the actual group known as the X-Men until he was 25 working in the school grounds. As Charles Xavier outed himself as a mutant as he brought their existence to the knowledge of the UN the School came under heavy scrutiny, not just from the authorities but from the local community as well. As an older resident Piotr was asked to keep an eye on the grounds, while some of the locals did attempt to get a closer look at the mansion the appearance of the 7'5 metallic man seemed to disuade them from actually crossing into school grounds. It would just so happen that a year into his new duties Magneto would attack the new President Kelly for the Mutant Registration act, and Colossus would be there to see the jet leave the Mansion for those X-Men who were to get involved.

Officially in on the secret, from that moment onwards Piotr has been training with several others to officially become X-Men. It is a hard secret to keep, especially as Piotr acts very much as a guardian and counselor to many of the younger children and he feels like he is betraying their trust for not telling them. This is made harder by the fact that while their numbers have grown since Professor Xavier announced himself to be a mutiny public opinion has turned against them, and the entire institute is under constant scrutiny.

How (if at all) does the New Frontier version of your character differ from the original?: His origin differs slightly though only to modernize it to include the fall of the Soviet Union.
