It'll allow you to be in both bodies at once, with each of their capabilities at your disposal so long as the connection is maintained.
If it weren't for the fact that you'll likely need all those measures you mentioned, I wouldn't have even thought about letting you near your original body yet.

By attaching something similar to these, I can link your new body to your old body and vice versa. I'll be able to control the connection however, meaning that you can't go off doing anything stupid. As long as at least one of them is intact though, you won't die and your soul won't be left floating around.
