As somebody failed to post by the deadline, the contextual reality has broken apart some more. Since a few of you seem to rather like entertaining contingent presumptions in your posts, now the Contextual Reality will as well. Frequently.
Let us get multiple branching timelines going at once, please.
In other news: Now I get to integrate all the tense errors. Huzzah.
"When can we get up again?" he asked. "The streets of New Nemea are very comfortable, but I am a little thirsty now."
"Shut up." The male knight with the pavise said absent-mindedly as he turned his body and began to approach both Fortune and the fallen crossbowman. The female officer had approached the tripod and rooted her pavise on the street behind her while she worked on the circuitry at the tripod's base, and appeared content to let her partner manage the scene.
"Hello, officers? I'm the one who called you, I can explain as much as I can after you get us out of here." She spat out some of the dirt that had covered her face after the shockwave. "Most of us are unarmed. Just be careful dealing with the redhead, he's a bit trigger-happy and I don't want another accidental shootout."
"Now listen, I'm a police inspector. Did you hear me?? Just check the inside of my coat, on the left. I've been commissioned by two governors in cooperation to investigate strange goings-on in this particular area. Already I've been forced to take more aggressive action today than I've ever had to during the last ten years of my career, so I'd appreciate it if I didn't have to spend the rest of this long, ridiculous day on the ground!!"
@Bright_Ops "You're lucky that you aren't going to spend the rest of your short life in an oubliette, 'inspector.'" The male knight responded flatly as he approached Fortune and the crossbowman. He set his pavise into the ground a ways in front of them and gripped the stock of his compound crossbow with both hands - paying little attention to Donny save the brief offhand comment he had just uttered. "Alright. Which one of you two jokers is Fortune De Vigny?"
Which was when he spotted the red-suited man with the face reminiscent of rebar, who had staggered his way up to both of his feet. It was at that precise moment that reality decided to break at the seams some more.
@Doc Doctor If Donny noticed the man rising behind him and moved at all, the rebar-faced man reveals a small holdout pistol from up his left sleeve and shoots him in the back of the head with a military burst of speed far too fast for Amelie to react to, accompanied by immaculate, laser-accuracy - and Donny's head is instantly enveloped in a suffocating and almost assuredly lethal metallic burial mask.
@mdk If Donny noticed the man rising behind him and did not move at all, the rebar-faced man begins to hurriedly shout at the male knight. If Fortune did not answer the man's question before the red-suited man begins to speak, the pavise knight lazily aims his crossbow at the red-suited man and fires its bolt - shredding the rebar-faced man's entire body with a shotgun-like blast of shrapnel, silvery metal spreading from each point of contact that transform the unfortunate target into glimmering silver statuary in under a second. It then tips over in the air and begins to very slowly drift downwards to gently fall on Luca's back while a thousand jutting spines of silver metal begin to erupt from every inch of its surface - if Amelie fails to deflect the bolt.
If Fortune answered the man's question before the red-suited man begins to speak, he promptly launches into a tirade. "Officer, this red-haired oaf is not an inspector! He is Donovan Booth, and he is on both the FBI's most wanted list as well as the Turquoise Charter! He is responsible for that mess with the limousine, and he attacked me and my companions as we drove closer to assist! He is responsible for the deaths of nearly every single corpse you see here!"
The female knight finished fiddling with the tripod's rudimentary circuitry and rose back to her feet before idly kicking the tripod stand over with a hefty bash from the side of her right greave, sending the mounted spike toppling over onto the concrete with a tremendous metallic bang. If the red-suited man was still alive, an enormous, blinding bolt of lightning instantly leaps from the levitating traffic sphere and envelops his body, reducing him to a mass of rapidly flash-vaporizing, champagne-colored slop and ashes that float and drift eerily in the distorted gravity.
@Cruallassar If the red-suited man was already dead and if either Donny or Kael tried to raise their bodies more than two feet above the ground, an enormous, blinding bolt of lightning instantly leaps from the levitating traffic sphere and envelopes their body, reducing whichever one rose first to a mass of rapidly flash-vaporizing, champagne-colored slop and ashes that float and drift eerily in the distorted gravity. The levitating sphere crackles with static power and emits an ominous hum that rapidly rises in intensity, but does not fire off a second bolt at whoever rises second if one of them does so.
If Amelie tried to stop the levitating sphere from discharging at any time using her redirection orb, the immense surge of power wildly erupts in every direction at once, far beyond her ability to contain, and sends countless jittering arcs of electricity in every direction. Most discharge harmlessly into the ground - but several strike out at every individual laying on the ground, as well as the two pavise knights and the man in red if he was still alive.
If Fortune had not yet responded to the male pavise knight's question, the fallen crossbow knight answers instead in a cracked and pained voice, accentuated with a dread gurgle of blood and phlegm. "I am De Vigny." He says, and the pavise knight nods simply and begins to reload the crossbow he just used to kill the red-suited man.
He notices the hum in the air and the increase in heat, and looks around with worry. His ethereal sight appears in his eyes as he searches for the source, and takes some time to scan the vehicle as well.
He saw nothing more than he had before. The strange, brass-colored wheeled carriage had a very faint magical source somewhere within its interior, but whatever it might have been was barely worthy of notice.
After an exasperated sigh he looked at the sky, at least it was getting warm now. Quite warm, to be honest. And pretty fast too.
He looked up to see a strange, bronze-colored corona of dull light tearing down through the sky towards the intersection. The light it emitted was very faint - if the sky had still not been faintly grayed from dawn, it would have been nearly impossible to pick out against the sky's natural saturation. There seemed to be an object - make that two small objects - held within the corona. Tall vertical shapes, with narrow gaps at their bases - almost humanoid in appearance -
The corona of light slammed directly into the intersection, missing the levitating traffic sphere by only a meter at best. A tremendous wave of pressure and heat rolled over Andreas, forcing him onto his stomach as though he had been picked up by an invisible tsunami that had then sucked him under and roughly shoved him up against the ocean floor. At almost exactly the same time, everyone else in the surrounding vicinity was likewise forced to the ground by the exact same wave of pressure. The air was positively stiffing with heat, rife with the fumes of heavily baked cobblestone.
He ricocheted off it with a metallic clunk, made louder by his own metal componentry, and settled into a nearly-stationary zero-g hover. As luck would have it, this all occurred right over the hitman's prone and ready position.
Luca, as with everyone else, was rolled over by the pressure wave and flung directly downwards - into Donny, who had been similarly affected. Not a ways too far from them, the red-suited man with the rebar face who had been about to float over the crest of the building adjacent the sidewalk abruptly crashed down onto the roof, rolling off of it and falling nearly three meters to the hard stone paving.
A scant moment later, the immense pressure that had forced everyone to the ground subsided and vanished, restoring freedom of movement. The air around ground-level was now wavering intensely with sweltering heat, which was rising and dissipating rapidly.
"NNPD, everybody stay down and put your hands on your head! The innocent have nothing to fear!" Barked a harsh, feminine voice, tinged with a metallic echo. "But if you want to wind up as tinsel fodder, go ahead and try to go for that amazing pushup set you've always wanted to do. See how far you get."
The speaker was yet another knight, fully decked out in black-painted platemail with golden trimming. A crest displaying an eagle emblazoned upon a coat of arms was prominently displayed over the woman's breast, and she carried a large pavise-shield depicting a pair of scales balancing gruesome, shackled men against a blindfolded angelic figure. A second knight with likewise adornment stood next to her, though he had drawn an intimidating, black-hued compound crossbow already loaded with a small, cylinder-tipped bolt. The cylinder was much smaller and different in design than the one the subdued crossbowman had attempted to use, but presumably had similar capabilities. Both of the figures stood within a ring of neatly scorched cobblestone, a faint trace of glassy fulgerite having been burnt into the road around where they stood.
@Doc Doctor Notably, the design of the newcomers' armor was a class apart from that of the errant crossbowman. It appeared to be lighter, with smaller plates, more scaling, and less overall coverage across the body - which was still entirely enshrouded in chainmail nonetheless. Most notably though, rather than possessing traditional visored slits their helmets were wholly translucent lids rendered from some plastic material that wholly exposing their faces. The police woman - knight? - muttered a brief comment to her partner before turning and stalking towards the tripod-mounted spike still entrenched underneath the levitating traffic sphere. The man gave everyone littered across the street a cursory glance, until he reached Fortune and the fallen crossbowman - whose presence appeared to startled him...
Directly behind Luca and Donny, the red-suited man - who clearly possessed extraordinary vigor - began to push himself back up onto his feet in clear violation of the woman's order, grunting in pain as he did so. His movement caused a rolling surge of wavering heat to spread, shimmering heated air rising faster about him and creating small eddies in the process.
The Final Hazard Roleplay, Created March 2nd, 2017
2nd Persona
Alwyck Malic, of The Nether Realm, on Corellon
Name: Alwyck Malic - Alternatively known as Godslayer, Svatan Lucifer, and The Vhair Heir Entity: A humanoid being, possessing a hidden eye on his forehead. Age: Physiologically mature. Chronologically old. Looks about 35. Genre: Gothic Tragedy Allineation: Anarchic Poisoner, bleed me dry. Love's last gift is letting them die. Joy keeps you raw, hate makes you hard.
Description:
Skills: Deception, Killing, Kidnapping, Corrupting, Persuasion, Ending Relationships, Killing Gods Through Unlikely Means
Abilities: As a Corellonian "Demon," Alwyck possesses a natural affinity for nature, and reviles anything to do with civilization. His demonic class is that of Demon King, meaning that he is in essence an aspect of nature which in this case has to do with putrefaction. He also in effect inherited the role (unintentionally) of the first god he killed, the Binder of Evil known as Axxesh, meaning that he can (though seldom does) access a dimension which functions as a prison cell with no spacial restrictions.
Knowledge: Alwyck understands, on a basic level, how dimensions, portals, and cosmic entwinements function. He still couldn't tell you the greater meaning or purpose of these things, but he understands how they work, and what they are. He is also an accomplished herbalist and poisoner, and makes a sick brew, not that you'd ever want to drink something handed to you by Alwyck.
Personal Effects: He possesses a Godly Artifact, known as Vhairnouros, which allows Alwyck to sever dimensional connections with anything that the scythe cuts.
Seem overpowered? Well that's because he is. *shrug*
I like to think that the greater the potential threat, the more chances for Alwyck to be a total dick. Of course, within reason. I don't think he especially wants to die brutally in an iteration.
Character noted - I cannot accept him for the moment as the current Iteration is still in-progress, but I can go ahead and pencil Alwyck in for the Second Iteration if you like. No firm deadline on that, though I can tell you we are rapidly approaching Act 2 of what is meant to be a Three-Act first Iteration.
Turning to look down at the knight he had captured while ignoring the suited man and the open carriage door for the time being, he quite bluntly asked "Who are you and why did you attack us?"
The oddly cold light cast by the morning sun had aligned serendipitous with the fallen knight's visor, revealing to Fortune the mist of gaseous blood that was evaporating off of the man's face from the injury to his eye, thankfully obscuring the wound itself. With Fortune's foot pressed firmly to his gorget, the knight managed to sputter out a single word in answer.
"Suffer." If he had intended to say more, it was lost amidst a burst of hacking coughs accompanied by hoarse hyperventilation. There were no remaining weapons on his person, and both of his armor-clad arms with trembling faintly on the pavement; the fingers twitching ever so slightly.
"I can't do much more and I have a patient to see, but I can give you a little more of my time if you care to explain about who sent you here to suffer and why. And I don't suppose you know Tafans? A Kanuri boy?" It was worth a shot, even though he doubted this man would know the whereabouts of the patient he was supposed to see. The one who most likely knew that was the recently deceased driver.
"I...I nuh tha name..." The thug's eyes were still wide as spotlights, staring without sight at the space behind Andreas' head. "Boy...et by a lion?" An abrupt and deep, red hue had spread across the man's entire face, and neck - and his arms as well. "Wa go. Heh saw tha trud. Three. Wa three. Sha lied."
‘…’ Immediate problem, Amelie had never even seen a real gun before. Of course, she knew the theory and seen them in movies, but… What was ammunition? What was safety? What could be moved? Making sure not to touch the trigger and point the shooty end at the ground, Amelie checked for moving parts and options, trying to figure out all the preparations…
In her cursory inspection, Amelie nonetheless managed to to discover that the vector had a collapsible stock the hard way, with the stock's butt hinging slowly and eerily downwards as she lowered the gun, its motion as unnatural as the rapidly fluctuating gravity.
Donny's left hand flickered out of his coat, a shadow of a blur. Unless the gentleman driving the Royce had the reflexes of a boxer and the instincts of a soldier, he'd scarcely be able to react to the small object being tossed through his open window, a hard, ovular thing which could easily roll under a seat.
The driver had been looking right at Donny with a bemused expression as Donny issued his rhetorical question - and so had a full-on view of the concussion grenade as it was lobbed directly past his face, bouncing off something unseen behind him and falling to the floor. Eyes widening, the driver lunged against his seatbelt in a manic but futile struggle to leap out the window - and shouted a warning.
"Grenade! Get-" Was all he had time to say. The only reason any of the occupants survived was because they had already been in the process of stepping out of the car. The man who flung himself out from the left-hand car door was a huge figure with a face reminiscent of steel rebar, wearing a suspiciously bulky carmine-colored suit and sporting a trim, military haircut. He was halfway through curling into a ball as he leapt, but the shockwave caught him mid-air and threw him straight down into the ground, his face and chest both smashing against the cobblestone street with a sickening noise that was lost amidst the chaos and the doubtlessly ensuing tinnitus. The man then bounced - floating back up into the air off the street, drifting slowly up towards the roof of the adjacent building. His eyes were still open, filled with blind shock and pain - stunned and battered, but alive. Whether anybody who had been getting out from the car on the right side had managed to make it out in time was unknown for the moment.
‘What do you mean by “stragglers”?’ She asked, mildly hostile in her voice, eyes darting in-between the man and the opening doors, prepared to raise a Redirection Orb at any moment.
… And then Donny threw the grenade. Amelie’s eyes widened in surprise and she dashed to get to hopeful safety, a bit further away, not turning around until she heard the explosion and confirmed she was safe.
'You could have stopped him, you wretched little witch.'
Back by Andreas, the thug with the arrow stuck in his knee had not fared well from the effects of the explosion. Diminished though the shockwave was after working through the car, either it or the tremendous, explosive burst of noise had been more than enough to push him over the edge. His eyes rolled up into his skill, and he fainted, mouth agape in a groan torn from the air by the rush of noise.
The pedestrians who had started to reappear on the street were suddenly nowhere to be seen again. The air, previously cool and dry, now seemed to suddenly be getting hotter. Much hotter. Very quickly. Though only Luca was still able to even hear it, the levitating sphere's ominous hum had not changed - the new sound that had just started was similar, but came from elsewhere. It was pervasive, but faint - coming from somewhere over his head, but not from any other particular direction...
