Bio

I have been writing as a hobby for longer than you have been alive. I have been a regular member and roleplayer of no less than fourteen different online forums during that time (including the old RPG), five six eight of which no longer exist.

I was previously a regular on the Homestuck forums, but I became so sick of thread turnover there that I asked around and eventually found the Guild. Since joining, I have exclusively only participated in Advanced RPs. Before Mahz gave NRPs their own subforum, I used to be an NRP regular in the Advanced Subforum. I am a Guildfall survivor, and know/regularly write with a few others.

If you ask anybody who has written with me in previous RPs, they should tell you that I have a generally open schedule, I post regularly and in a timely fashion, and I never drop an RP once I join unless the thread dies. Some of them may tell you that I have extensive expertise within the realms of Biology, Psychology, and Physics, which I will make no effort to validate since there is no way I can provide hard proof of aforementioned alleged expertise to anybody over the internet (though I am happy to try and answer any questions you send my way).

My favorite fandom is the Myst franchise, which seemingly nobody other than me has ever heard of.

I was a Contest Moderator for the Writing Contests Subforum for just a little bit over two years. I wrote the Moderation Policy for that subforum and I ran a contest called the Twelve Labours; you can still go there and see all of them and the entries people wrote for them in the Contests Section and the Victory Archives.

I have been quadruple secret banned from the guild discord. That is not a joke.

You already know about me.
Abridged Premise

Welcome to Chronoclasm. This is a roleplay about intrigue across time by factions that want to change history in order to secure their own survival.

Each poster gets to write as one world, one reality. Each of these worlds exists in a separate state of time, apart from those of the rest, each derived from a unique combination of circumstances and potential histories of what would otherwise be the same planet. For the moment, each reality is stable, but the clock is counting down (relative between each world of course) to the next Chronoquake - and when that happens, whichever one reality is most likely, becomes the only reality within our frame of reference.

Each poster for the roleplay will be responsible for creating a history for their faction, including a list of imperative events that need to occur or else be preserved. During the roleplay proper, each poster will be writing from the perspectives of multiple agents sent into different models of time in order to cause or else safeguard these imperative events - all while dealing with their competitors.

Not big on science fiction or the complex ontological dilemmas born of multiple contradictory models of time? Relax. This is a soft science roleplay. Those who know me will tell you that I am typically strictly hard-science, but I also realize it is unreasonable to hold everyone to the same standard. The roleplay is also structured on the assumption that nobody knows how time in each model works - or if they do, they may still need practice in working in them. Everyone will get the opportunity to mess around with time-travel in a relatively consequence-free fashion in the beginning and to figure out the flow of things. Allow me to assure you: Time travel only sounds complicated*.

Decompressed Premise

As it turns out, everybody was wrong about time. No one particular theory of time in and of itself proved to be the undoing of conventional frameworks for understanding it, but all of them as a monolithic set of hypotheses had the same flaw: They assumed that, like other fields of physics, time was static and unchanging. That there was one 'perfect' model of time out there that nobody had discovered yet, but that once known, time would conform exactly to that model. The modern theory posits that time used to function as a nonlinear wavelike state and always had, always would have, up until we took the reins and forced it to make sense. How does one observe time though? Is not just living and being aware of reality sufficient observation? No. Because Human perception of time is strictly linear. We cannot perceive it as the ocean it is, nor how we can move through it as we might move through the rest of space. True observation requires that we reach out and seize time itself - touch it, hold it, sculpt it.

The modern theory of time ultimately came about by accident as a natural consequence of the development of room-temperature superconductors, resulting in the accidental creation of the first time machine. This is when the first Chronoquake occurred, and a seventeen year old spent the next three weeks in their garage looking up mathematical equations using Gogole in order to describe the phenomenon their science project was generating. This gave birth to the first false-positive definitive time model: That all of history was predetermined and set, completely intractable and unchangeable.

For a time, as it is now understood, that model was even accurate. Time genuinely worked that way. The world was briefly convinced that Humanity as a species was confined to an eternal, static, unbreakable if intangible prison. Thankfully, The same model also predicted that the indefinite waveform of time had broken down upon observation, with each separate 'model' of time, such as we understand them, operating in their own separate niche instances. Which means there were waves, strings, branches, segues - rooms of time where it did not behave in such a linear fashion.

Humanity then freed itself. The inhabitants of one such room used its newfound ability to control its own fate in a freeform, nonlinear setting of time in order to break the Linear constraints of their temporal neighbors. This resulted in the second Chronoquake and the first partitioning of rooms.

Now, our worlds exist in a state of strained tension. Every actor within our partitioned spotlight stands poised to shove the others out from under it, and to become the sole star of the show due to the peculiarities of the most recent Chronoquake. Not all of us desire conflict of any sort, but it is a simple rule of physics that two objects - or in our case, two realities - cannot exist in the same place at the same time. The twelfth Chronoquake is projected to occur relatively soon - and when it happens, only one world will be left. There can therefore only be one logical outcome: In a conflict of to be or not to be, between us and them, we must always choose ourselves.

Important Information

There are currently three models of time, listed in order of least to most important to your very existence. The Nonlinear model, the Paradox model, and the Linear model. Once the twelfth Chronoquake arrives, each of these three models will merge, and their events will be translated in a final collapse event that will ultimately determine which world's reality is the one that actually happened. In order to manipulate these models of time, each world must send agents into each one in order to change history, all whilst thwarting the efforts of the other worlds and protecting events imperative to their own history.

There is also the possibility that none of the factions can secure any kind of victory. Total failure across the board to secure a dominant history of events by the time of the twelfth Chronoquake would likely result in a Chronoclasm. A temporal reset button of sorts, blending all the histories of each distinct reality together to create an amalgam world, like and unlike all the realities drawn from in order to create it - with every composite reality drawn from being effectively erased from existence.

More to Come

Assuming this gets enough interest, there will eventually be a faction and character sheet templates, a Q&A, as well as a basic primer on conventional temporal mechanics as well as the specific intricacies of each Model of Time. If there are enough participants, I may even set up a chat group. Optimally, I would like for the RP to be able to begin on or about Friday.

If anybody has questions or would like to express interest, fire away.
Reviews.

These are not gentle. Though they are not cruel.

My @vote is for The Sixth Truths. Which could have been better, but was nonetheless well-written.
I will still also write reviews for various submissions in other contests, if people find them helpful. I did not stop out of convenience or choice, so I still have all the time needed. Look out for those.
My concern with the character would be that of the Semblance ability, not in the way it works but more when they would have the opportunity to use it. It feel somewhat situational as I don't have any human fights really planned out (Mostly Grimm), meaning that it would more likely be used against other players. Do you plan on having some PvP banter with other players, or would this info change your views on what ability you would like?

A reasonable concern - I had not planned on Charis picking many if any fights with the other posters. She is caustic, but not disturbed or a lunatic. That said, I think back upon the RWBY series proper as well as the circumstances described in the OP and cannot help but feel we will be encountering Human foes at some point. If that is not the case I apologize for making the assumption.

I will say that Charis is an adapted character - she has a kind of template which I have adapted to the roleplay, and part of that template includes a Nullifying ability similar to how her semblance currently functions. I carried it over both because it seemed like it might prove helpful on top of being a normal part of her character. Even in light of the fact that we may not be facing any other Humans, I feel it would be best to keep the Semblance as-is. If you feel it would be better for me to change it in order to better synergize with the other characters/the overall theme of the planned encounters/story though, I have no problem doing so.

Your thoughts/verdict?

Edited Charis' profile to include a skill elaborating on her ability to repel and attract Grimm.
@NuttsnBolts

Hey I have a question. Been going back and forth with deciding if I wanna be a part of this. I know you had a good amount of interest and only want 3-5 people. Is this first come first serve or merit based acceptance?

Just wondering. I've been wanting to join a RWBY RP since my last one ended.

Listed below will be a topic guide on the details that should be included in the character sheet. I will be selecting sheets based on the quality of the writing; the balance and correlation of their Skills, Weapon and Semblance; and the level of passion for the project. Due to this the "First Come, First Served" expectations don't apply, nor do "Hold my Position".

So you still wanna join? Then show me something that you are proud of!
Posting a character sheet here for your review and approval. I have been watching the interest check since it went up and am glad to see it finally have reached official status. I am open to constructive feedback and suggestions as to changes.

@Terminal

Kael wasn't caught off guard by the transition, not as such...

He just had essentially no options. He maneuvers himself as best as he can to take the shot in the same spot he took the last one, that way the metal would spread the same distance and merely coat metal with more metal, instead of spreading to cover something vital. At least if that worked, he would have access to the solvent now. He memorizes its relative position to him in case it doesn't work...luckily he'd gotten some out of the bottle before.

The last surprise of Kael's life was the revelation that the metallic coating spread across surfaces like a liquid when more of it was added - even if it already appeared to be solid. The cylindrical bolt exploded in a burst of iridescent light, a warm, burning mass of silver pouring across his chest and armors as the already existing mass spread further out, completely encompassing both his arms and enveloping the entirety of his head.

It did not even truly hurt. In fact, although he could no longer even move his arms or head whatsoever, Kael nonetheless felt fine overall.

Until his lunges started to twinge.

The sword landed on the tip of its blade on the ground behind the pavise knight, the impact and strange angle of landing causing the blade to shatter in a storm of deadly shards, peppering the back of the knight's legs. The last trace of Fortune De Worde broken and no more.

The pavise knight glanced at their own feet in confusion as the sun bled back into being once more, the ground becoming recast beneath them for the second time.

"...You waited a third day? Why? They were already-"

Fortune de Vigny's sword shattered into fragments against the ground directly behind the pavise knight. By some twist of chance, a single fragment of the blade shot nearly straight back up from the angle of impact. The pavise knight was wearing even lighter armor than the first opponent the passengers had encountered in New Nemean had been adorned in. Demonstrably just as if not even more physically resilient, but altogether providing less coverage. In particular, the pavise knight lacked any kind of gorget, which had been supplanted by the low-hanging front of the helmet's transparent visor. Which left a single strip of exposed skin just above the helmet's rear lip, obscured from sight but still technically exposed to air, with the chainmail below it ending precisely where the helmet began.

The single fragment of Fortune de Vigny's blade shot straight up into the gap between the helmet and the pavise knight's head, carving a neat and surgical tear into the back of their neck. That alone may not have proven fatal. However, the sudden burst of the remaining fragments across both of the pavise knight's knees surprised the knight, forcing him to reflexively take a single step forward and crane their head to look down, even though none of the fragments could either penetrate his chainmail, or even stagger him from their impact.

The pressure exerted by the pavise knight's indestructible helmet, with the man's final jerking motion, buried the intrusive fragment fully into the back of his neck.

"...Me too?" The pavise knight muttered as he fell, further, and all motor control abandoned him. "Why did I have to-"

He never spoke again.

The cold sun shone upon the scene - the broken allineator, the pavise knight fallen on his face, and Kael's form - arms, head, and chest wholly ensconced in metal.
