Just checking, we somehow know the language, or do we have to role play learning it?

You automatically know the language and any language you come across.
@Theyra Um, does our translation apply for distances aswell? And time?

also im not sure how long of a time period our first post is supposed to cover, but i dont have the time to continue my post rn, so ill make a part 2 later if that is fine with you

As in knowing the measurements and time that ancient people used? Translation does not cover that.

Your first post should at least cover your character waking up, reacting to waking up in another land, and finding someone. After that, what the posts are and how long they cover are up to you.

So you are okay with making a part two.
@Theyra also i want to land on the coast, by knossos (its supposed to be like the major city). My char will probably spin a tale about being shipwrecked

You can land wherever in Crete. So it is fine that you want to start at Knossos.
Okay, that works after double checking and feel free to post. Unless you have questions like Wernher has.

Ehhhh, I might want to change location then.

If we go by that logic, then according to wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_Italy , Italy is barren of any mineral wealth. Obviously its because modern day mining makes it unprofitable to exploit minerals from a first world country with deposits that aren't rich enough because otherwise it would mean the Roman empire started itself with just wood and marble. Now I could drag up the Roman mining article, but it describes what the entire republic/empire used so now I have to find very granular data to justify anything. And on the other side, some countries that are now considered extremely rich in mineral are only so because advanced mining technology allows to access these minerals and they wouldn't have been available during antiquity.

Now, I'm not bitching, I understand you have to run this show and this is an easy way to do it, but if this is how you want to do it I will relocate Astrid to Oristano, Sardigna, Italy since it will make anything resource wise sooo much more simple.

Okay and you are free to change your location. More so since you have not posted yet. Admittedly, when I played earlier versions of this as a player. It was not really explained to me how it worked, and so this is what I did. If you can think of a better system, then feel free. Since I did find while looking at Italy's ancient cultures, that it had copper mines in the north near France in the past, which was not listed in the economy section of the wiki page. So if you say it is there a resource you should have. I can just look it up and see for myself. I do not mind.

But, this is how I plan to do it unless someone or I think of another way to do things when it comes to getting resources.
I personally dont care, I'll join a discord if there is one but I think we are perfectly good with just this thread.

And @Theyra please define 'pulling resources out of nowhere' because what I had in mind was say, I can manage to find mineral deposits etc with the excuse of 'by modern day it was exhausted' so I dont need to pull a geological survey to justify a copper mine, but I can't pull elephants, lions or silk worms out of nowhere since those were indeed from only a certain corner of the world?

I mean like, mining or getting tin while in Madagascar, where there was no tin there, even historically. Like, look at the economy section of a nation in wikipedia, and if it says there that there is copper or iron in the nation, then it will be allowed to say set up a copper or iron mine if you start in that nation. If you say you are mining, let's say gold in a place that does not have gold deposits, even historically listed on wikipedia. Then no, that is not an option. But if the culture you start with, or you found that there are other resources like copper in Italy. Then just show me, and it will be allowed. You do not have to do heavy research for this, and just do some checking, and it will be fine.

Sure, you can get stuff through trade once that is set up, or if it is already set up, depending on the culture you start with. More so if the culture you start with has access to copper or bronze stuff. Either by mining or trade.

But, unless there is a good reason why you have something like elephants in the UK. Then no elephants in the UK since they were not there historically. So, for the last part of your question. The answer is yes, you cannot pull elephants, lions or silk worms out of nowhere since those were indeed from only a certain corner of the world.

Does this answer your questions?

As I started to wake up and feel the warmth of the sun on my face. An odd feeling since I normally keep my windows in my bedroom closed. I started to feel, not my bed beneath me, but grass? I slowly opened my eyes and, rather than seeing the white ceiling of my apartment. I was greeted by an open blue sky. I was confused and got up halfway and looked around. Quickly finding out that instead of my bedroom. I was in a green open field. I tried to make sense of what was happening, and I discovered as I looked at my watch that I had nothing. No watch, no clothes, no nothing and I got up thinking I was in a dream. But this seemed too real, and I could move normally then in a dream. So, as one test, I covered my ears, and I could hear the ringing in my ears. The familiar tinnitus meant that this was somehow real, but nothing made sense.

"I do not understand, and where am I?" I said in a confused tone. Not fully believing what is happening, but if this is real, based on the tinnitus in my ears, since I never hear that in my dreams. Then how or why am I here, and who did this to me? I do not recall having enemies or knowing anyone who would do this to me. Who would kidnap me only to dump me in a field with nothing, not even my clothes? I tried to understand.

I scanned the area once more and came to a conclusion. If this is real and I am on my own then I need to find someone to help me get back home and find out who did this to me. I thought, still confused. I have three days to find help, since that is how long a human can last without water. Maybe I can find a river or something, but there has to be people around here. Unless my kidnappers choose a remote place for me to die in.

But, I choose to be hopeful and find someone somehow. I was scared, but I had no other plan, and staying here is not a solution. So after some time of where to go. I started walking, and the only thing I could think of as a saving grace was that the weather was nice. Not cold or hot. Maybe the only thing going for me in this unknown land, I thought.

After some time walking, to my joy, I found a river, a small one but a river nonetheless. I calmly walked to it and as the gazed at it from its edge. Just keepin near the water, I started to think. Maybe I will not die of dehydration after all, I thought hopefully. I did not smile, but the sentiment was there. The river water was clear, and it looked okay to drink. Which I was a bit thirsty, but I weighted the idea of whether I should drink the water or not. I looked at the water again and I made up my mind and hoped this was not a mistake and took some handfuls of water to drink. "Please do not come back to haunt me," I said as I finished drinking the water, and it tasted different from the water I was used to. I sighed, either it meant it was safe to drink or I just screwed myself.

But since I found a river, I decided to follow it since towns tend to be built on or near it. I took a moment to think with way to go along the river since this meant life or death. If there were people in this place, that is. But I chose to follow the river one way and walked for who knows how long before, after some time. I could see people, a small group, but people still. I, in my desire to get help. I ran to the group and tried to get their attention.

"Hey, hello, hey, I need some help," I shouted at them, and as I got closer to them. I slowed down until I was close to them. It was a small group of people, three, and they were all on horses but did not have saddles. But one had what looked like some kind of deer on one of the horses' backs. I could only see it from the back. It looked like their horses were drinking from the river. All have bows and arrows and they all stared at me, confused, and one of them seemed to be studying me carefully. They looked foreign and were not wearing clothing I would recognise. They may not even speak English, which means getting help from them would be hard. So I tried my hardest.

"I need help. I was kidnapped and dumped some distance from here with nothing, and I do not know where I am." I pleaded desperately to them. For a moment, there was a silence in the air before one of them spoke.

"Your tale, outsider, is an odd one." Wait, I thought, semi-relieved, I can understand that. He speaks English, but still, where am I?

"Ozen, what do you think of this one?"

"Ege wait, look at his eyes, they are two different colors. What does that mean?"

"Please," I spoke again. "I just need help to figure out where I am and try to get back home and find the ones who did this to me."

Again, there was silence before the one who spoke first talked. "What is your name, outsider?"

"William," I said quickly.

"That is an odd name, and my name is Ozen, and while I am... hesitant about you. I will bring you to our camp, where my people reside for now. They will decide if you stay with us or not."

"Thank you," I felt relieved.

"Do not thank me yet, William, for if my people choose not feel pity for you and allow you to stay with us." There was a seriousness in his voice. "Then you will have to live out here alone, and I do not know how long you will last in your state."

I shallowed hard at the words with an audible sound, and simply said this. "It is better than nothing, so thank you for now. I can ride on one of your horses?"

Ozen nodded, "you will ride with Umit, and our camp is not far from here." He pointed towards the man and his horse.

"Okay," I said, and after awkwardly trying to get on without a saddle for some time. Umit rolled his eyes and offered a hand, which I grabbed, and he pulled me on his horse. "Sorry, I only rode a horse once when I was growing up."

"It shows outsider," Umit noted. So the group started making their way to the camp, and while I was nervous about whether I would get help from these people. I just hope things will work out and I can find a way back home. But one step at a time, I told myself mentally, and if they do not want to help me then... I may be screwed.

Captain Mathis Lauzon

So far, so good, Mathis thought after Weiss smoothly got the ship into position near a good distance from the wreck. A good job so far, and he would say something about it. "Good job Weiss, and keep us here unless something else happens in this system." Mathis sounded a bit cautious. It may be nothing, but in his experience. It pays to be careful, and since this is the first mission and they have already found something of great note. He does not want any deaths this early in their mission.

"Leino," Mathis said in a commanding tone. "Any other readings so far in the system?"

"No captain, just the energy signal on the ship. Nothing else in the system so far."

"Okay, and keep me informed if anything changes." Mathis stayed in his chair and watched the wreck from the bridge's viewport.

"Roger captain," Leino replied back professionally and keep her eyes on her console.

As time passed and Mathis watched the alien wreck and studied it both from the viewport and on the holographic display. It was clear this ship had seen combat based on the scans, but what he thought the most was how long it had been here. In this system, simply floating in cold space in this damaged state. The damage seemed bad enough to disable the ship and as long as the ship does not have any susprises for them. This might be a simple run, more so if the energy source can be identified and maybe even recovered.

Then he heard Vance got on comms, and it seems he was wrong about the ship and this mission being a simple one. "Be careful, Vance, and do not take any chances," Mathis spoke in a clear and concerned tone. "Find the source of the energy source and deal with anything that seems hostile."

While Mathis doubts that they will find anything actually alive on that ship. The fact that it has sprung to life after who knows how long in space and despite its damage makes him concerned. They do not know what is on that ship, but now that it seems to be still alive. Maybe it does not wish to surrender its secrets just yet. So Mathis just hopes that this mission will do well and they can get in and get out without any problems.
@Theyra just want to have somewhere with metals and such, and didnt know where to pick, so yeah
plus, greece so greek fire in a couple thousand years (I hope i really want greek fire cuz it would be cool)

I am curious about what you found in Crete metal wise. For Greek Fire, I am not sure when it was created, so when it is created, by your civ or a npc one. That will be a fiery time.

@Theyra Btw, on the subject of sciences and progress, I presume that our posts will be us communicating our intentions and methods to achieve them and you will in turn answer if we succeed or fail?

Well, in keeping with the original idea... not really. As long as it makes sense for your character to make/invent it. It will be allowed. But I will say if something is not possible for your character to do at the time, or if you are pulling resources out of nowhere that are not found in the area you are in. Stuff like that I will be watching for. You can get help from your people if needed, depending on what you wish to invent. But as long as the technological and scientific advances are logical and make sense. It should not be a problem.
