@Alamantus@Vertigo “Ready,” Pebs said, swapping the truck for the C-type battery in her bag, which she tucked into her pocket instead before zipping up her backpack. Then, whipping out her phone and turning on the flashlight function, she nodded, walking towards the door.
“Phone ready, let’s do this.”
The door unlocked easily, opening up into a hallway with a blue rug. There wasn’t much to see by their phone’s light other than a table some distance down, and Pebs’ eyes quickly caught on the light switch near the door.
“Light,” she said, walking over and flipping the switch.
Route 5 || Day 3: Night || @PlatinumSkink “Eryn,” Eryn supplied with a grn when Laurel paused. “And this is Eri. Nice to meet you all!”
Eryn waved, and Eri did the same. Since Eryn’s talk with her Zorua would probably happen later that night, she figured it wouldn’t hurt to let people stay confused for a bit longer. After all, it was pretty amusing to see the gears turning in their heads as they tried to piece together nonexistent puzzle pieces.
With introductions over, onto the ship they went, and it was there that Zak and Laurel revealed their true colors. It was pretty clear from the get-go that Eryn was the newest person to the routine, but she hadn’t been able to figure out how new she was until her fellow patrollers whipped out their Pokemon of choice. While she’d been pretty sure that Laurel was more experienced than her, since he’d acted like some de facto team captain, she was surprised to find that Zak was as experienced as he was as well. His goals were sweet, with his Pidgeys, but she couldn’t help but wonder if his birds would be as useful at night as they would in the day.
Unfortunately, though, her most valuable team member was a secret, so trying to prove that she would also be able to contribute seemed like a bad idea. Eri was someone who felt more comfortable in another’s skin, and Eryn didn’t want to take that away from him, especially when he was in a new environment where even Eryn wasn’t fully comfortable. So, in this case, she felt it was more prudent to just let him do his thing.
“Wow, Cutiecruel is pretty awesome,” Eryn said, eyes wide as she leaned over the edge of the boat to watch the Tentacruel fade into the depths. Kylie joined her at the boat’s edge, prompting her to look over at her twin. “Eri, you getting this?”
With a nod, Eri walked over, looking over the edge as well. Though Eryn wasn’t sure of the versatility of having him fake water-types, given that the illusion didn’t lend him the ability to swim or breathe underwater, she figured it couldn’t hurt to have a Pokemon who could look like a Tentacruel for a few seconds sometimes.
The novelty of the new Pokemon quickly wore off, given that the more interesting two were underwater and therefore not quite visible. Besides having Kylie Fairy Wind the few Carvanha that leaked through the Seadra and Tentacruel, there wasn’t much to be done, which Laurel voice aloud soon enough.
Eryn laughed. “I’d say fingers crossed something comes up, but in this case probably not.”
She paused, glancing out over the lake at the other lights that roamed it. While she’d known that the lake was large enough to have multiple patrols out at once, it seemed like she’d underestimated the sheer number of resources at the Lakewatcher’s disposal. It was comforting, though, to know that the rare Pokemon of the lake were protected from smugglers and trappers. That there were as many people dedicated to the safety of Pokemon as she’d seen was reassuring for the future of such environments.
“Say, Laurel, I met someone who said they’d bought a Gible. From, er, somewhere in town, actually. The city underbellies or something?” Eryn shrugged. “Do you know anything about that? How are people managing to get through despite everything the Lakewatchers are doing?”
The discussion went on for a bit, Eryn filling up the time with either questions about his Seadra or about the Lakewatcher’s operations. When they reached a wall with those conversations, she moved on to trying to get Lin to open up because—since Zak was an easy read and she’d already grilled Laurel—there was only one other person left for her to chat with. Besides, Lin seemed like an experienced trainer, if Cutiecruel’s presence said anything, and Eryn figured she may as well ask where the sleep-seeking trainer had been to catch her trusty water-type.
Sometime during the conversation, though, something unexpected happened: The egg in Eryn’s arms shook. It took her a few seconds to process what was happening, to connect the dots she didn’t think she needed to connect for a few days, but surprise quickly morphed into alarm, then fear.
“Arceus, Lin, could you—could you get Cutiecruel to take me to shore? This egg is hatching and it’s, damn it, it’s an Onix,” she said, shooting to her feet and whirling on Lin. “Throw me if you have to, but the Onix is going to sink this boat if I stay here.”
Actions: Talked to the trainers with her to pass the time before her egg started hatching. Then, given the situation, Eryn requests that she get to shore as fast as possible. Whatever it takes.
Also, I updated all the below information already and don’t really feel like deleting until my next post, so like… just ignore it until the egg hatches!
With a pale complexion that starkly contrasts her angular features and dark hair, Branna’s careless manner and haphazardly cut bangs speak for her in terms of personality, as does the poorly-timed smile that hangs on her lips. Given her tall, lean stature and her scuffs on skin and cloth, she easily passes for older than she is. Her closet is an untidy array of mismatched pieces she throws on in pieces of two or three, dark and simple enough to have been handmade if the situation so required it. Since she hails from the frigid cold, she doesn’t react to temperatures above chilly, and whether or not she minds the heat is uncertain. What is certain, though, is that she’s been through a few ordeals, and she has a loose eyepatch and a scratchy voice to show for it. Her tattered voicebox lends her a throaty laugh that’s hardly pleasant on the ears, and it gives her giggles and musings an uncanny edge that she enjoys watching others’ reactions to.
Background:
Branna was a wanderer of the streets before she was anything else. Though the capital of Dinas Afaraon was a self-sufficient fortress, the nation’s lesser cities and slums still held their fair share of strife, and Branna remembers nothing but cold and hunger from her early days. Working odd jobs didn’t yield good wages, but they were livable, and someone had to work them, so through mines and tanneries she went, her life a mix of smoke and dust.
It was sometime between her time in the hazy black that Branna came into possession of a wyvern egg, and despite the grievous injuries that came with procuring and raising the hatchling, Branna emerged with a beast that was able to keep her belly full and her coin pouch jingling. Given that wyverns were difficult to retrain if they’d imprinted and hard to kill for the average person, Branna was able to begin life as a travelling mercenary, using her wyvern’s wings to help her stay with the flow of coin.
Personality:
Branna smiles and laughs, enjoys both the rabble and the quiet, though often for the wrong reasons. With a penchant for needling others and revelling in their discomfort, she’s a tad more manipulative and moralless than most. Whether or not that bothers others, though, doesn’t matter much to her. For her, the most important thing is keeping her coin purse full enough to sustain her and her wyvern until the next job, and anything beyond that is a bonus.
Wyvern Flier
END: D STR: C MAG: E DEX: D SPD: C DEF: E RES: E LCK: D
Abilities:
Voracity || Units targeted by Branna have their defense lowered by one stage when Mors feeds on them. If she kills an enemy, all nearby enemies suffer a defense and attack debuff of one stage each. Neither the attacking debuff nor the AoE debuff stack with themselves, but they can stack with each other. Only Branna can utilize these debuffs.
Fortune || Branna obtains 50% more EXP. This only applies for EXP earned in battles, and is calculated after the battle is over.
Marla took in the scene with dismay. With the boat wrecked and Marco gone, it didn't seem like they were going anywhere anytime soon, and when Hugo turned on Hanjae and her she could only shake her head.
"No lo sé, Hugo. Lo siento," she said.
Glancing again at the wreckage, she swallowed, then looked down the river they came. They'd sailed too far to cover on foot in one day, and their camping supplies had been on the boat. Unfortunately, it didn't seem like they had a better option at the moment, so it was between tracing the river bank and counting on Hugo's map and compass. Hugo, though, was in no state to be leading the scientists out of the forest at the moment, and Marla wondered if there was anything she could say to help him ground himself. After all, given that they were probably dealing with poachers, the chances of Marco being alive still were slim to none.
Marla's eyes caught on something on the ground, and she froze. "Hold on, Hugo, mira. Footprints."
Indeed, at the edge of the greenery were a set of footprints leading into the forest, and Marla walked towards them, brows furrowed.
