That’s what I would assume. The only concern was her immediate assertion that I would intervene. If someone was just mining, why big beasts like that? And why assume off the bat that when someone shows up, they’re looking to interfere?

Portaling causes tears in spacetime as you open your little path from point a to point b. That doesn’t mend itself fully when you close it, not immediately. So you wait to make sure someone doesn’t follow you unintentionally.
