Nikki's mind was on autopilot. Her heart was in pieces and she had nothing left to lose. Her eyes focused on the job at hand and she could do that in her sleep. She just kept them at arms length and taking their heads. Nikki's tears had dried and her eyes were scanning the area for anyone ahead of her that was responsible for the gun shots. She heard Ingrid's voice and turned to see her in trouble. Nikki jumped over and took out the walkers closest to her and then pulled Ingrid up from the ground. "Nikki! Oh thank god!" Nikki just turned and went back to her own line of walkers.
Jack approaches the two women having slung his M4 and now using a hatchet to take out as many walkers as he can. He drops the duffel bag he's been carrying full of ammo and weapons at their feet. "Guns and ammo in the bag use what you need there's plenty more where that came from." He grunts sticking the hatchet into the head of another walker and kicking its body into another.
Ingrid nodded and grabbing a gun and an extra magazine. She started shooting them. She had better aim with a gun than Nikki and that was saying something. She kept an eye on her friend who seemed to have turned into a fighting shell of her former self. After what seemed like forever the fighting slowed down. There were less then ten left and Matt and Ethan made quick work of them. Ingrid looked around and saw Nikki's trench coat disappear around a corner way up ahead."Nikki!" Ingrid went to go after her but Matt stopped her. "Go check on the girls. I'll go." Ingrid nodded and went towards the house that she had put them in.
Matt got up to where his sister had turned the corner and he saw her. She had her head against a concrete wall and she was shaking with heartache. Matt turned and walked back to the others quietly. He would give her a few minutes to herself.
Jack stood for a moment surveying the damage before standing up as Matt turned the corner and approached him. "Listen I don't know who you are or where you came from but thanks a lot for the help. I don't know what would of happened if you hadn't come along, names Matt" Matt says and sticks out his hand.
Jack shakes Matts hand and introduces himself to the rest of the group. "Listen I know your friend around the corner is gonna need a few minutes but I suggest we start moving soon. It seems just to me whoever that was shooting at you set this whole thing up and I don't wanna stick around to see if they have an encore planned. I have a place up the road a couple miles it was an old National Guard Training Ground there's plenty of ammo, guns, food, and water left over."
When Matt walked back to check on his sister she was gone. Nikki had vanished. Matt's heart leaped in fear and pain, he hated to leave without her but he had no choice. He had Sasha and Grace and he couldn't leave them. Not out here, not with Jacklyn out there. He would come back for her he decided as he hurried over to his family.
