I actually sometimes prefer sad endings. Makes things much more interesting and (from what I believe) Realistic.

It's why I could never stand some stories like, say, Peanuts, where Charlie never actually gets anywhere. A couple of old Disney shows were like this for me as well; it felt like nobody really progressed when all they did was fail.

Rick won't, I don't feel. He's transcended beyond what an essential character is in the show. Abraham and Morgan might.
