Understood, we were getting off topic. Sorry you feel that way^^ And I apologize to the others as well for derailing this a tad.

The point is, my contention is that we need admins that take their job seriously (and I'd like to point out, most do. Hank and Nutts come to mind) but we also need a healthy balance of discussion, while still maintaining the Mod/Admin authority. People should respect the position, and the Admins should respect the people. I'm certain after this thread has been made by Cynder, that some of these problems and concerns will be noted by the Admins, hopefully.

If that is the case, then Sven should have definitely been banned.

He has been, but Hank and other administration listened to his appeal before deciding to unban him. Meanwhile, PM exchanges between Mahz and The Spectre reveal that Mahz was unwilling to even discuss unbanning J8cob or Nyte (I do have screenshots for these as well, but again, I need to wait until I'm at a computer). I feel that this is inconsistent.

Even if you've seen screenshots of j8 supposedly trolling, did you send them to the actual guild administration before j8 was banned? Not really relevant if Mahz didn't know beforehand, so... yeah.

j8cob barely talked in official, so the last straw thing is kinda pointless. There were no straws to begin with.

I was talking about my experiences with him when he first showed up in the unofficial server. Odin asked why I would assume J8 had a last straw, and my point was "well I have seen him be a troll" and he questioned it. I am not saying I have seen him be a troll in official. Like I said, I didn't know why he was banned and why Sven was not.

Just to end this here. That last bit on my initial post was that things can get taken out of context and sometimes little things that accumulate over time cause bans. I was merely use them as an example, and I specified that might not even be a good example, because I myself wasn't completely sure on the details.

I am currently on my phone so please deal with any mistakes that I have made. I decide that it's time for me to join the discussion by revealing the private message that I sent to Mahz during the event. I am posting it because, in my opinion, Mahz has done nothing to address this situation and didn't do anything he said he would do. I also want to express my thoughts and opinions on several issues since I was there at the beginning and a part of the discussion. I stand by any statements that I said to Mahz in the letter and have no regrets. I am only worried that I might get banned because of what I said.

However, I am not looking to stir up anything or create drama. I think that it's a perfect time to release the private message since we are talking about the whole thing again. I am willing to respond to any constructive criticism of the letter. So, here is the letter that I sent to Mahz and his response.

I honestly want to say so much, but I'm completely appalled. Please reconsider your staff. Especially staff that is going to 'implement ways' this is beyond ridiculous, and I'm reminded again why I only trust 1-2 staff members.

@The Spectre Interesting how we're supposed to take J8cob and Nyt's versions of the story with a "large grain of salt," whereas the mods have consistently refused to give us their side of the story at all. Like, who are we supposed to believe when we're presented only one side of the debate, and the other side refuses to engage or respond altogether?

I'll go ahead say now (more for Nutt's benefit so he can see this, but also to share my general opinion) that I think Nutts is a fine staff member. I haven't seen true dirt on him, only him being around others that have done questionable things. And he also sent me an apology himself a few days ago, which I might add, confused the hell out of me because I had no idea this drama was even going on, and he still wanted to make sure he had never done anything to offend me. That shows he has a conscience, and whatever happens I hope he retains his status if he so chooses.

Of course that's not up to me. But I had to say it.

I apologize for the delay with posting these screenshots, but I've been restricted to my phone for the past eight and a half hours due to work, but anyway, here is a screenshot that is acting as a response to these comments:

As I had previously promised, I will be happy to provide context and/or further screenshots for discussions that are believed to be taken out of context. I don't believe that the additional two lines here had much to add to the point I was trying to make that I felt blatantly ignored and in fact, I actually think that they make my argument out to be stronger upon reflection. Not only my request completely ignored, but I was told to see another moderator about the matter. I understand that staff are not superhuman and completely prepared to deal with every situation, but users should be able to report issues to Staff of their choosing and expect to get a just response. Given my history with Ruby and the fact that she (rightfully so) told me to never speak to her again, I figured that discussing this matter with her would not end very well. That being said, I will update this screenshot to the OP for further context on this conversation.

On a side note, I would like to thank The Spectre for uploading the conversation between Mahz and himself regarding J8cob's appeal. While Hank has kindly offered to hear an appeal, it seems that Mahz does not feel similar and this (along with bans not fully being explained) is echoed in conversations between Mahz and J8cob's "appeal account" which can be seen here:

If this is a bannable offense while advocating for the death of all Muslims is not, then I'm not really sure if RoleplayerGuild is the site that I once thought it to be.

I have returned the the staffing fold for the guild, the RL commitments that were previosuly destroying my free time have freed up somewhat so after some discussions with Hank, I am taking up my old position as a moderator.

Now I have been absent for the last couple of months so I am still catching up on much of what happened after my resignation but if anyone has any direct questions for me, feel free to ask away either here or in a DM. On a side note, I do run notifications for discord on my phone, so if I don't reply in a reasonable amount of time, feel free to drop me a DM on discord and I'll find it much quicker.

I suppose to give my personal view on moderators on the guild; we're basically the janitors and receptionists of the guild. We're here to clean up a mess when it's reported and help out users when they need something. No privileges or benefits really exist.

Easy: cronyism. When a mod does something stupid and wrong (e.g. banning someone unjustly), the other mods' immediate kneejerk reaction is to assume they're justified, ignoring all facts and available evidence meanwhile. I'm one of the lucky ones who got his claim investigated by another mod, but most of the victims mentioned in these whistleblowing threads have not yet received that luxury. They haven't received their justice.

"Those screenshots" referring to the ones in Grimhildr's original thread, now found here. And if you sincerely believe they don't incriminate most of the mods then you're either blind or delusional.

Curiously, as it interests me a great deal, what exactly do people want done/changed? What policies and all.

Those aren't benefits though. That's just trust in other mods.
Granted, the trust is misplaced. But literally there are no benefits of being a mod/admin.

@POOHEAD189 How is being able to kick/ban anyone you dislike, and getting away with it at no costs to yourself, not a blatant social benefit?

I was banned for (not) breaking a rule which doesn't even exist on this site. And we still haven't seen the proof of Nyt or J8cob's wrongdoing. In fact the mods cannot even deign to tell them what they did wrong in the first place, instead making up bullshit about how they "know what they did wrong."

While I cannot speak for everyone, what I want changed/done is simple.

Follow your own moderation policy/or ensure everyone is onboard.

Hank and Kangaroo say they're happy to help if you DM them or whatnot... but not all moderators are as willing to be helpful. One only needs to look at mahz's replies to spectre and j8cob, or nutt's reply to cyn.

I mean, hank said he was willing to listen to an appeal, yet when j8cob actually tried to do that mahz was less than willing to hear him out.

Who should I trust then? the Co-Admin and Kangaroo, or the main admin and Nutts who do the opposite of what Hank and Kangaroo are claiming mods do- Some mods will not listen if you DM them, and might actually give a response that come off as rude. If they can't serve the entire community, well then whats the point?

Get everyone on the administration team on RPG on the same page. There are so many conflicting responses between certain moderators. One says yeah, okay talk to us, while the others just basically tell us to step off even if we legitimately ask for help.

I would like to see more solid rules that can't be interpreted as the administration sees fit. This would be ideal for both the Discord and website itself. I think that adding new members to the Staff team would be a viable suggestion as well seeing as we seem to rotate between the same seven individuals or so. I'm also not necessarily saying to demote anyone, but there may be grounds to argue for this as well.

If you think power is a benefit and not a responsibility, then I'm glad you're a user and not a mod, no offense meant. All kicking someone you don't like does is cause an eventuality such as this thread. Mods are people who serve the community. Sure, you could manipulate the system to make it corrupt, but to say that 'mods have benefits' implies being corrupt comes with the job. It does not, if you do your job correctly.

That's how it's being treated right now, not how I want it to be treated. You're confusing prescriptive and descriptive ethics, which is, like, Logic 101, dude.

Curiously, as it interests me a great deal, what exactly do people want done/changed? What policies and all.

  • Mods do their jobs. (This one is harder for some than for others.)
  • Mods do their jobs in a prompt and timely fashion.
  • Mods do their jobs without bias, prejudice, or favoritism.
  • Mods do their jobs without whining about how hard it is and how little it pays. You volunteered your way into the position and you can volunteer your way out of it if actually fulfilling your obligations is, for any reason, too difficult.
  • Mods do all of the above with transparency and honesty.

In theory all this was already in the job description so I don't think I'd be asking for much.
