A gun sure does the trick.

Alternatively I could swap out the 90mm gatling for a sort of light rotary rail gun. Less moving parts and smaller (much faster) ammunition in an arguably lighter system would pretty much alleviate all the concerns of the Ravager, and would also require more power to use, this making E/M targetting easier against the Zephyr. Thoughts?

Of course this'd mean a more accurate, more powerful shot since Newton dictated fast mass is a fast blast.

So maybe half the size of the buzzsaws and add missiles? I suppose I could, if I had to... But my philosophy is simple.

To destroy your enemies all you need is the power to do so and the means of efficiently delivering that force, even to the detriment of everything else. I trust human ingenuity for the rest.
I could go with a buster beam or something but that'd bore me. 'You're original or you're nothing' constitutes the second half to that philosophy.

I'm not sure why, but I thought you were going to say, missiles that explode and throw flying buzzsaws everywhere like shrapnel. So I'll say it for you.

Your missiles ought to have buzzsaws attached to them and when those missiles explode, tons of buzzsaws with micro-rockets attached go flying out randomly to give everyone hugs.

This has got to be the most heart warming, adorable and yet most hardcore metal thing I have ever seen in an RP OOC thread.

@Sosuke Nothing happened ic yet and it's still on apply, feel free to join.

As for the weapon debate, I am willing to bend the rules for extremely diverse mechas, as some enemies also will bend those rules.

I know I'm a little late to the party... But a 90mm gatling gun? On a Light frame? You're gonna be able to fly with that amount of recoil!

Out of curiosity, how fast will combat play out in this? Mechwarrior style? Slightly faster Heavy Gear? Or zippity zoop Front Mission?

@Cleverbird

We've actually mentioned this several times.

It's Armored Core style mechs.

So more like this.

This trailer also shows the difference between most walking tanks in the game and a NEXT.

- Changed the 90mm Ravager Ballistic Gatling with the Integrated Hyper-Rapid Magnetic Cannon. The weapon is now a part of the HELIX's body, replacing the left forearm entirely.
- Changed out the 20x High Act Missiles with '20x Missile Pylons', allowing for the Zephyr to be loaded out with missiles appropriate for the mission. These would be loaded onto the zephyr prior to departing for the mission.
- Also added External Heatsinks as a means to counteract the high amounts of heat that the HMC generates.

Left Arm - Integrated Hyper-Rapid Magnetic Cannon [HMC]
Capable of spitting out magnetically accelerated rods at a high rate of fire, the HMC is the ultra-modern alternative to aging conventional ballistic weaponry. Instead of using a striking hammer and propellant, the HMC uses three arrays of magnets to sling rods at extreme velocities toward the enemy. At such speeds, the light rods hit with a mass far greater than the rod itself actually has. The HMC is integrated directly into the forearm of the Zephyr to allow for easy feeding of the ammunition and powering of the electronics. The HMC can be fired at different rates, using less power to fire a staggering volley of many shots, or more power for a single powerful shot over long distances. The weapon's lack of moving parts compared to a conventional weapon allows for greater control of the weapon. However, the heat generated both from the friction of the projectiles, and the electricity surging through it mean that the longer this weapon fires, the easier to is to track via infrared. If the weapon sustains long periods of fire, or charged for a high powered shot, the zephyr's electromagnetic signature grows as well. When the zephyr enters flight mode, the weapon stows into the HELIX and is used much like a fighter's cannon.

Right Shoulder - 20x Missile Pylons
The zephyr has room to mount up to twenty missiles on its shoulder. These missiles are the same as ones used by fighters. The missiles are loaded before the zephyr departs for a mission. If the mission requires air to ground support, AGMs can be loaded. If the missions foresees a large air presence, AAMs can be mounted. The zephyr can have a mix of missiles mounted on its pylons for mission flexibility. Essentially, if a missile can fit on a fighter, it can fit on the zephyr. Perhaps more specialized HELIX missiles can be mounted onto it later if they are ever designed.

Legs - External Heatsinks

To counteract the heat generated by the HMC, the zephyr has been fitted with heatsinks in an attempt to absorb and bleed off the excess heat. When the HMC is not in use, these heatsinks can be used to mask the zephyr's overall heat, and contribute to maintaining a low profile. If the heatsinks reach critical temperatures, they can be purged from the zephyr to prevent damage to other systems, but this will drastically reduce the longevity of the zephyr's HMC.[/hider]

So wait, the Zephyr now has a Rotary Mag. Cannon? That's fucking awesome!

EDIT: But can you imagine the science that has to go into that? I may be nerding out here. But Magnetic Caster/cannon/railguns/etc have always been portrayed as having a slight charge time before they would fire. To make it rotary and shoot rapidly, those magnets would have to charge so quickly. And the power needed behind it too.

I'm sorry my sci-fi nerd is having abit of an orgasm over the thought of how cool that is.

Well I can't even attempt to get into the sciences behind it so you're probably right. Thankfully we've been gifted the wonderful fictional tech of Phalanx Cores that run these HELIX's in the first place. That'd most likely be more than enough power for a mag cannon. Also it has always been a sci-fi wet dream of mine. I play a tabletop game called Infinity that uses the 'HMC', and I just love it. As a matter of fact, I have a picture of mine painted on hand!

Dayum! look at that thing. Wow that's hot. Impressive too. Make that thing work, that is just yeah Sci-Fi tech at it's finest.

My sci-fi tech nerd has calmed down some so I'm just looking at this in awe. lol awesome idea.
