Lucky Noodle, Little Asia

The phone vibrated against the worn, lacquered surface of the desk, issuing a deep thrum that seemed to cut through the perpetual din of conversation within the PCPD’s main precinct office. With a weary sigh, Lt. Detective Steve Donahue forced himself to emerge from the dull haze of his late-morning coffee to check his messages. His desk wasn’t the most organized, and it took him a moment to locate the wayward device after shuffling aside a stack of papers and filing folders. A slight frown creased his features when he finally glanced at the text. It was from Officer Donovan, requesting his assistance with an incident at the Lucky Noodle.

The frown deepened, etching an array of fine lines across his forehead. The Lucky Noodle. The name didn’t ring any bells, but if he had to speculate, it was probably one of those fancy cafes located in the Little Asia District of downtown. Steve was still fairly new to Paragon City, having transferred over from Brooklyn several months ago. Although he had worked from one side of the city to the other on a variety of cases in his short time with the PCPD, he was still learning the lay of the land. Sure, he had heard whispers from his colleagues, but there was nothing concrete that he could recall to assist him in this instance. For the moment, it was another unfamiliar name on a growing list that he needed to memorize fast.

Despite his ignorance, Steve still felt a flare of irritation over the situation. He was a homicide detective, not some patrol grunt assigned to disperse petty fights out on the street. Why had Donovan contacted him? Part of him wondered if the Chief had suggested it. He had the impression that he was still serving a probationary period, even if he had proven himself on several occasions since his transfer. Was it simply that they didn’t like him? Or did they know more about his past? Specifically about his secret?

No. They couldn't know about that. It wasn’t possible. No one knew. He hadn’t told anyone.

That notion—that fear—allowed him to push aside his frustration and reassert his focus. Steve stood and pulled on his coat, patting down his pockets to secure his phone and keys, before stepping out into the late morning light.

The drive over to the Lucky Noodle was therapeutic in the sense that it afforded him time to reflect on the moment. While he initially expressed dismay over being asked to investigate this case, his gut now told a different story. Call it simple intuition, but Steve felt as if there was something more involved here than a simple disturbance. It needled at the back of his mind, like a persistent itch he could not reach. That sensation was compounded by the realization that trouble always seemed to find him, regardless of his efforts to avoid it.

Would this lead to more of the same?

When he arrived, the little bell above the door jangled as he crossed the threshold, announcing his entry. Steve immediately placed his hands on his hips and rocked back on his heels to survey the scene, his features adopting an impassive mask. The place had a distinct aesthetic, embracing tradition in a very tactful manner. It generated a pleasant atmosphere for patrons and passersby alike, though the tension that now hung in the shattered those sentiments. He quickly noted the mess that littered the floor: food debris, furniture, and blood, which indicated a clear sign of an altercation. A small group of people stood nearby, speaking amongst themselves in hushed tones. Steve surmised that they consisted of those present during the incident, including employees and patrons.

He exhaled softly as he absorbed this information, his eyes finally shifting to regard Officer Donovan. "Mike," Steve acknowledged the man with a curt nod, his voice steady but seeming to carry the weight of so many unasked questions. "Good call getting me out here. What do we have?"

As he spoke, Steve caught a flurry of movement out of the corner of his eye. He shifted then, noticing a young woman with a thin trail of blood seeping from an open wound. She uttered something about the Delgatos… and the occult, which prompted him to narrow his eyes. It was the end of a previous conversation, but it still sent a chill down the length of his spine, causing him to shudder involuntarily.

For the past several months, he had conducted his own research into the occult—ever since he had discovered that damned book. Was it truly a coincidence that he had been called here to investigate the very thing that could potentially help him unlock the mystery about his… condition?

Probably not.

Suddenly, being here made even more sense.

Clearing his throat, Steve stepped forward to address Julia. "I’m sorry, Miss. I’m Lt. Detective Steve Donahue." He pushed back his coat to reveal the badge on his belt. "I’m trying to piece together what happened here, and I’m curious… the occult? That seems… a little far-fetched, doesn’t it? Why would you assume something like that?"

@Master EffeX "My dad will probably end up chewing me out regardless." Steffan said with a slight shrug as he leaned back, and looked out at the large skyscraper as they approached the Delgato's HQ. The car turned towards an underground parking lot and the car drove further into it, eventually found an empty parking lot. "Alright here we are." One of them said as he got out of the car and opened the door for Steffan and Keyrs, and gestured towards the elevator. "This way." Steffan said as he entered the elevator once Keyrs entered it Steffan went and hit the very top button, and the elevator started to quickly ascend.

If they were to turn around they would see a glass window, revealing the city down below. When they got to the executive level the elevator doors opened a young woman was at a desk looking over towards the door she gave Steffan a friendly smile before turning her attention to the woman she hadn't seen before and nodded slightly. "Your father will be waiting for you in his study, he is in a meeting at the moment, but he will meet you shortly." She said as Steffan nodded motioning for the others to follow him they would make it to a set of doors which revealed a very large study with various bookshelves and a number of decorations and taxidermied animals in various places.

@IAmTheIsland Amara tilted her head slightly as she studied Taiwu a little bit more before nodded. "Yes I am Amara." She said before motioning him to follow her into the abandoned church. Inside looked like it had seen better days, there was a portion of the roof that had broken. But there were a few people inside though they all wore hoods and thick clothes as well to. "I maybe able to help you." She said as she gestured her followers to leave the room, they left shortly afterwards.

She then snapped her fingers as a pair of chairs and a small coffee table appeared with some hot tea and a pair of cups for them. "Tell me what you had experienced and i'll give see what I know." Amara said as she sat down on the chair crossing her legs and poured herself a cup while gesturing for him to join her.

@Tally Dor The youngest out of the group listened to the other two speaking for a moment, he was in his mid twenties wearing a hoodie and torn jeans and some very old and worn shoes he stared at the Weeping. "Who exactly is coming over here, and what should we expect exactly?" They finally asked staring at the Weeping, he defintely knew that they couldn't take on DSHA if they actually showed up, maybe the PCPD if they weren't the corrupt ones that could take a bribe or two.

@McNephelim@Silver Carrot@IAmTheIsland@Skelm "Stay here." Officer Donovan said as he stared at both Sarah as well as Kenzo keeping an eye on them as he turned to look at Julia and nodded. "I'll call an ambulance for you ma'am." Officer Donovan said as he saw Detective Steve Donahue entering the scene. "Of course, just keep an eye out on them they were trying to leave the scene." Officer Donovan warned gesturing towards Sarah and Kenzo as he moved to the other side of the room and started to call in for an ambulance for Julia. "They'll be here in a few minutes miss." Donovan told her.

Diana Smith

Location: Veridian Technologies, Nighthaven, Paragon City
Skills: Teleportation, Archery

"Yep I am Artemis, sorry I kinda kept it hidden from you." Diana said over the headset as she slowly started to stand up, and cracked her neck slightly looking at the attacker. She drew out her bow and fired off an arrow shooting it directly at the woman, but only missed, as the woman returned fire she also missed. "You suck at aiming." Diana said as she teleported and appeared behind the woman and shot another arrow this time hitting the woman in the back, causing the woman to scream in pain as she turned around and missed shooting her bolt of lightening at Diana.

Wolfe and KT would see on the cameras DSHA and PCPD cars were pulling up at the front of Veridian Tech HQ, and were getting themselves ready, for a fight. "Are they here yet?" Diana asked Wolfe over the radio as she dodged another bolt of lightening aimed right at her and dove for some more cover.

Madalyne Crane

Location: Financial District (Zero-Zero's Hideout)
Skills: Eldritch Blast

"And leave you alone to fend for yourself?" Madalyne said to Zero-Zero, as she looked over her shoulder towards the remaining Delgato and fired a fireball at the man. Only to miss, she launched another one knocking him back and hitting a nearby wall. She slowly looked around seeing that they were dealt with. She looked over at the armored suit for a moment.

It seemed like they were safe for now as she started to move closer to the wounded Delgatos on the ground. "So what'd you do to piss these guys off?" Madalyne asked looking over at Zero-Zero, she had a few small encounters were the Delgatos before but nothing to major she tried to not get into fights unless it was nesscarry.

Lucky Noodle, Little Asia; with Ken Shimazu, Kenzo Yamamoto, Julia Kray, Detective Steven Donahue, & Officer Mike Donovan

Sarah stopped herself in her own tracks. The soles of her shoes squeaked against the tile floor as she dragged her feet to catch herself. Shit. She didn’t need any extra senses to know that she had drawn attention to her exit.

The call of the cop behind her confirmed what she knew. “Fuck,” she said under breath. She considered just bolting for the back door; unless the cop was some kind of speedster, a jolt of Chi would give her enough of a head start to lose him before he could even get to his car… and it wasn’t like he’d know where she was going. And if the new guy following her could back up his talk from earlier, he’d be able to keep up.

But Sarah knew that would only complicate the situation for Shimazu and Julia; her Sensei especially would have a lot of explaining to do if she tried to run.

Feeling like a weight had been tied to her ankles, Sarah turned around slowly. She faced back to the others in time to watch the ‘new guy’ force his arm out of the cop’s grip, and then pass the buck onto her. Her eyes widened, and the line of her mouth thinned. Was this guy for real? She wondered; he seemed strong, but not exactly the most subtle or tactful when it came to talking his way around. It took every bit of Sarah’s patience not to rail the guy herself.

Shimazu then turned his head toward her, giving a sharp, dissecting look-over. Though he would nod his head, his expression was disapproving. “I understand what you’re doing, but I don’t like it," was what he might have said if they were exchanging words out loud. But he remained silent. As he turned back to the opening door, Sarah’s head went low.

“Good afternoon Detective.” Shimazu spoke with authentic respect, if not for the man at first, but for the position he held. He hung on the greeting as he sensed him out. This was another new face to the police department; as with the officer before him, Shimazu needed to have some certainty that the man wasn’t likely to bring the case through the wrong people. It was almost as staggering a read as the man that had taken Maddie. The man was genuine, though masking an uneasiness. A further probe of the Detective’s energy hit Shimazu with a feeling of something powerful contained within… if not for the Detective’s will to control himself, the power would be bursting out through every pore and seam in his body.

“Ken Shimazu,” he continued, satisfied with what he had learned. “I’m the owner and manager of the Lucky Noodle.” He extended a hand to shake Donahue’s; a formality of courtesy, and a show of his willingness to cooperate. “I’m guessing you haven’t been around Paragon City for very long. Occult dealings aren’t as farfetched here as you might think. Nighthaven has no shortage of--”

Sarah slowly raised her head back up as the conversation shifted into matters of the Occult; she almost felt stupid for not thinking that a magic-user like Maddie would be targeted by some syndicate in Nighthaven. “I was working down stairs when the Blue Dragons stirred shit up,” she said, directing her testimony to the detective, and cutting into the conversation. “I came up when I heard the fighting, and had to get some… firebreathing asshole off of my boss, and--” A proper lie wasn’t going to get her anywhere, but as Shimazu had once taught her, sometimes, the best way to lie is to tell the truth.

“Zhang Taiwu,” Shimazu added. “A Blue Dragon enforcer; notoriously ill-temptered.” He darted his eyes hintingly towards Sarah as he spoke the last word “But I do believe we’re past that part of things, Sarah.”

“I… I know. I just… After fighting off some Blue Dragons, I had to watch as some monster portaled away one of my best friends. It’s feeling a bit heavy in here and I think I need to step out for some air, if that’s OK?” Sarah looked between both officers and Shimazu. Hoping that someone would cut her loose.

Shimazu’s eyes gave a half roll. He heaved a breath in and then out again, and looked to Donahue and Donovan. “It’s been a stressful morning here. For the youth most of all. I can corroborate her testimony. If I may, I would like to dismiss my employee before we continue; I believe that letting her go will be best for her well-being at this moment. And the young man here,” he indicated Kenzo, “is a patron who got caught up in matters that shouldn’t have impacted his day.”

The Void Hideout, Nighthaven; with Amara

Taiwu followed closely behind Amara as the pair climbed up the steps and into the old church. Other than the damages and disrepair of the building, it was a formidable space for a band of cultists; several cloaked and hooded figures were busy clearing floor space and moving material to reconstruct the place in their group’s image. However they would each stop what they were doing as Taiwu and Amara passed through the nave, drifting through what was left of the rows of pews to get a better look at the newcomer. Some, Taiwu noticed, followed his tracks threateningly, but didn’t budge for the will of their Mistress.

With a wordless gesture from Amara, those gathered in the nave dispersed to places out of sight and out of earshot. One hooded figure, face mostly obscured by a hood, bore a set of fangs towards him as they passed. The Dragon took the action in stride and continued up the pair of steps and seated himself in one of two chairs summoned where the altar had once stood. “Thank you,” he said, bowing, and helping himself to a cup of tea; the hospitality was a stark contrast to the hostile dealings the Blue Dragons typically had with 70th Street and the Delgatos.

“As I explained outside, we encountered two people of interest; both young women. One, I need no information on, as I’m familiar enough with the arcane to understand, though I believe her to be a product of Sanctum here in Nighthaven. She is someone that may, at some point, be of interest to you, if she isn’t already. Her spell work took the form of a green energy, manifested as projectiles and shields, so far as I was aware, although this may be too common a feature to go off of.”

Taiwu took another sip of tea before resuming. “The one of more interest to me, and my boss, whether he recognizes it or not… her power was different. Being targeted by most forms of magic feels like being struck by nature, an elemental force controlled by the practitioner. But this one… she produced a force that felt as though she were exerting her own essence against us; as if the energy she was projecting was coming directly from her.”

Angel’s Bar, Mapleview

Theresa was greeted by the warm glow of subtle orange, red, and pink lighting as she entered 70th Street’s favored bar. Since it was still early in the day, Angel’s was just opening up, and the crowd was small and thinly spread across the bar proper and a few booths of seating; a few randoms for the lunch hour, others as regulars and alcoholics getting their fix. Conversations were taking place in dull murmurs, as not to be overheard. As she made her way toward the bar a young man with dark hair and a thick but short and trimmed beard looked up, smiled, and waved at her. “Ey! El Toro!”

A few barflies flinched and shifted, looking over their shoulders at Theresa as she came to a stop next to them; one drunkard a seat away clumsily shifted another seat away, spilling a splash of beer on the countertop. Theresa ignored the fluster, as she usually did, and directed her attention toward the bartender, who began wiping down the puddle of IPA in front of her. “You really like to rattle the cage, don’t you Joel,” She said, pushing an empty seat off to the side.

Joel shrugged and chuckled. “It’s a little funny how jumpy they get. But that’s because they don’t know you like I do, yeah?”

Theresa’s eyes narrowed on the bartender, and his grin faded quickly as he realized she wasn’t there for fun.

“No Valentina today?”

“She’s busy buttoning up some things; finished up some work this morning. She might come by later. But I’ve got my own agenda. Is Angelica around?”

“She’s in the back, yeah. You want me to get her?”

“No. I’ll let myself in--”

Joel raised a hand to stop Thersa. “Not without getting a drink you won’t. Angel doesn’t like to be bothered by anyone that doesn’t put up.”

“I’m not here to get shitfaced Joel,” Theresa said. “I’m here on business, not recreation.”

“All the same chica. Either buy something or she won’t talk, even if you go back there. And trust me, she’ll know.”

“Fine.” Theresa reached into her pocket and pulled out a twenty dollar bill. She dropped it on the counter, shaking it and the glasses atop it as her hand hit the hardwood. “A shot of Clase Azul. And you better give me my money’s worth.”

“That’s more like it esa!” Joel reached back to the shelf and poured a shot of tequila out from a curvy white bottle with blue leaf accents. He filled the shot glass to the brim and slid it gently towards Theresa.

Theresa lifted the shot. “To the Boss Women,” she said, and downed the shot. She placed the glass back on the counter, wiped her lips with a napkin, and proceeded to the back of the bar where Angelica Lopez had her office. She swung the door open, disregarding knocking.

“Who the fu- oh. It’s you. And how may I help the Bull of 70th Street today?” Angelica leaned back from some ledgers she had been going over and waved Theresa into the office, closing the door behind her. “I take it this isn’t anything concerning Valentina.”

“Yeah,” Theresa said. “I’m here to ask about last night… downstairs…”

“You know I’m not at liberty to say anything about what happens downstairs. As a regular in the ring you should know that no one in the network knows anything about it.”

“You know if you say anything, I won’t go flapping my gums about it.” Theresa slammed her hands down on Angel’s desk; it nearly buckled under her strength. “I’m looking for someone that was here last night. In the ring, she goes by the name ‘Stryke.’”

Angel hesitated a moment, and then shook her head. “I don’t keep the listings of who participates in those events.”

“That’s fine,” Theresa said. “Put out some eyes and ears for someone who does, and get back to me… I want that punk’s real name, and where I can find her ass.”

“You really think the organizers are gonna spill anything? To me? They wouldn’t risk the secrecy just for you to what? Get some payback on someone for a cheap shot?”

“This bitch has been dissing 70th for years now, Angel. Even Val’s starting to notice. Why do you think she sent me in last night?”

“And what do you want me to tell anyone about outing one of their… attractions… so you can get revenge?”

“Tell them that if they don’t go through you with it, that Toro will find them eventually, and the questioning will be a lot more painful for them if it comes to that.”

“You’re starting to mess with things you can’t even begin to see the depth of, Theresa.” Angelica scowled. She paused for a moment, then sighed, and said, “But I’ll see what I can get out of someone next time they come around. Better for you that I do it with some tact than you bulldozing it out of them. Now, if that’s all there is…”

“That’s all there is,” Theresa said, her voice cold.

“Then get on with your day. And remember, this conversation didn’t happen.” Angelica got to her feet, and opened the door.

Theresa saw herself out of the office. The sound of the door closing hard behind her and locking shut rang in her ears. She made her way back to the bar, and dropped another twenty onto the counter. “Another shot, Joel,” she said. The bartender served her another shot of tequila, which she downed even more quickly than the first before exiting the bar to make her way back to the 70th Street safehouse.

Horace J. Wolfe & Katherine Tran

Veridian Technologies, Artemis Hideout, Nighthaven

Wolfe and KT shifted their eyes over to another screen. This one was a view outside of Veridian Tech. A line of SWAT vehicles and DSHA SUVs had been staged outside of the main entrance. The main task force was preparing to enter through the Atrium; smaller detachments were beginning to station themselves outside of the many emergency exits. “That’s affirmative,” Wolfe responded. “DSHA and PCPD have a perimeter established outside of the building and are preparing for entry. Backup should be in the building within minutes.”

“That might not be quick enough,” KT said. She removed her headset and walked toward the door out of the room.

“And where are you going?” Wolfe asked.

“Up,” KT said. “Di- I mean, Artemis could use some help until reinforcements get here. Plus… I have a plan.”

Wolfe maintained a long, pensive look at KT. Seeing the determination in the young woman’s eyes, he resigned himself to the fact that he wouldn’t be able to stop her easily. “If you think you can make a difference, then go. But be careful.

“I will. I should be able to do what I need to from a distance.” KT rushed out of the safe room and made her way back up the stairs.

Wolfe, meanwhile, returned to the monitors. “Don’t panic, but Miss Tran believes she can help the situation somehow. She’s on her way up. Whatever you do, make sure you keep the hostile’s attention on yourself.”

KT arrived back in the Atrium. Electricity was flying about as the woman continued attacking Artemis. For the moment, it seemed that her friend was keeping the woman’s focus such that she [KT] would be able to do what she needed to without being seen right away. Peering out from around a corner, she concentrated on the woman… It was a hard process, cracking into someone’s thoughts from a long distance; but the lack of interference from other minds evened the difficulty slightly. Vague visions and a train of thought from the woman came into KT’s mind. Got it! She switched gears and focused her mind onto communicating with Artemis. Not sure if this helps to know, but she's working for the Delgatos. Maybe we can leverage that to get her to stop?

Location: Delgato HQ

Keyrs gave a nod to the car door opening service, then proceeded with Steffan to the elevator, as directed.

Several related thoughts going through her mind as she did so.
'Will this be one of those mysterious elevators without buttons?'
Nope.
'I wonder if they can do away with people in here, if they so need.'

She glanced around inconspicuously for any sign of little holes or vents which could exude a debilitating aerosolized substance, and came to be looking out the glass walls instead. 'Oh good. An escape route, if so.'

Sure the height of the complex likely made that impractical but. . .Keyrs made another mental note of something to add to her tech.
Feeling at relative ease despite her elevator suspicions, Keyrs allowed herself to reflect on the building. It was a step up - way up - than what she'd been expecting of the syndicate's HQ. Then again, why hadn't she expected something like this?

Clearly she'd watched too many mob movies.
Or maybe, just not the right ones.

On arrival at the executive level, Keyrs, hands held down in front of herself, reciprocated the nod to the receptionist before listening quietly to what the sitch was. Another reflexive nod, then she followed Steffan to the study.

Rather, one of the locations to be in the building, she was sure.

A series of emotions crossed her face at the sight of the poor taxidermed animals - they were nice to see on a base level, but pitiable and detestable on a fully aware level. Some reminded her of exhibits at the museum which she always thought -make that hoped- were just well done models and not actually once-living animals. Others made her question the character of The Boss, and also case a sideways glance at Steffan. Surely he wasn't party to such collecting? That would put such a damper on how much she was liking him.

Keyrs tried not to focus much on the animals and instead check out the book titles - though the other decorative objects kept catching her eye. 'Look with your eyes. Hands to oneself.' She caught herself, moving her hands from her front to be clasped loosely behind her back as she perused.

"So, who's collections?" She asked in a non-revealing tone.

Julia Kray

Location: The Lucky Noodle, Little Asia, Paragon City
@Nallore@McNephelim@IAmTheIsland

"Thank you," Julia replied as the officer walked away to phone the ambulance. Her attention turned to this new addition to the room's population. A detective, by the looks of things. He had immediately zeroed in on her, and what she'd set. Julia briefly felt herself prickle. It was probably going to take a while before anything thatfelt remotely like a police interrogation wouldn't make her nervous. No, she was now a civilian giving a witness statement. She could really tell him everything. Though, if she left nothing out, she'd probably have to explain why she was in that warehouse, and there's a good chance her money would get taken away. It was dirty money she was paid in return for commiting crimes, after all. She needed her goggles considerably less than the money. Maybe if she...yeah, that might work.

Julia sighed, and pulled out the old, rusty, stained set of goggles. This was clearly twenty year old tech, but also not something a civilian should own.

"Nice to meet you, Detective. I'm Julia Kray" she replied. Whether he recognised her name, clocked her age and put two and two together or not, she kept going. "I haven't had time to give a proper statement yet but I actually saw the monster meet with a woman in robes. I only caught a snippet of conversation but it should be recorded on these goggles."

She flashed an apologetic glance at Ken as if you say sorry for making no mention of that fact thus far, before leaning in closer to Steven. "I've already served my time for all my crimes, so you're free to take all the footage on this as long as I don't get any fresh convictions from it. I'd also like these goggles back eventually if at all possible."

The Weeping

Location:The Melting Pot, Paragon City

A small sigh escaped The Weeping's lips as he spoke not a word at first. Just a strained silence lingered in the air as the gathered men took nervous glances at one another as a light tapping begun to resound through the room. The Weeping closed his eyes in thought which probably would have unnerved those in front of him more since if it wasn't for the tapping that showed he wasn't moving amongst them.

The men all shuddered and winced as a sudden explosion of light showered the room with a dim glow. The Weeping now stood visible to them. One of them begun doing the symbol of the cross across his chest. Only the old drunk had ever seen him up close. A frown was plastered across The Weeping's features.

He allowed the claws of his own hand to drag across the desk as he listened to the sound of the scraping of the wood.

"There is only one who might bring the department or the cops upon us."

He allowed the words to sink as his eyes drifted between the men. Some were obviously more nervous about this than others. Some had more shady deals while others were just trying to survive.

Garrett cleared his throat as he rubbed his balding scalp.

"Do we need to be worried?"

The Weeping shook his head.

"I don't think so. The police and those in power have ignored this place for decades. Only coming here when money or someone needs to be silenced is involved."

His clawed hand splintering and leaving a deep gash on the top of the desk.

"From what I have heard no one has cared about the mistreated and forgotten of the Melting Pot since the Defenders disbanded."

The reminder of this fact seemed to stir the men slightly and decrease some of the fear.

"Even if someone does show. It'll be the same standard procedure that you all have done even before I came."

"Ignorance." The man with dreads chimed in.

The Weeping nodded a smile slowly crept across his face though it didn't reach his eyes.

"Exactly. It isn't the law or any of those heroes that worry me."

The image of Amara flashed in The Weeping's mind, and he rolled his shoulders. Feeling the tension leave them he shut the light off allowing the darkness to return.

"You are all dismissed. I have other business to attend to."

His words disturbed the darkness, and The Weeping left the men alone in the darkness as he came out of the darkness and entered into another now finding himself at the entrance of an ally way. His eyes searching before landing on the bent piece of rebar and the lack of thug he had left behind. Seems the man had been removed.

Good. One less loose end to tie up.

Lucky Noodle, Little Asia

As the information began to roll in, Steve quickly realized that he had been correct about his intuition; there was definitely something amiss here. Something that went far beyond a routine public disturbance case. He felt vindicated for suppressing his irritation and agreeing to take the call. It bolstered his confidence as he accepted the goggles from Julia Kray and studied them with keen interest.

As he turned them over in his hands, he noticed the weathering around the seams, emphasizing their age. He wasn’t familiar with the tech itself, but it certainly wasn’t something you’d typically find in a local pawn shop. They almost looked custom-made. Had the young woman built them herself? But why would she require a tool that allowed her to capture images in real-time? Did she work in surveillance—or was it something more nefarious?

The questions continued to pervade Steve’s mind as he lifted his eyes to meet the woman’s gaze. "You’re a brave woman, Ms. Kray," he said evenly. "Not everyone would admit to owning something like this, much less offer it up as evidence. I appreciate your cooperation."

He rocked back on his heels and glanced at Donovan, silently confirming the exchange, before turning back to Julia.

"But you have my word," he continued with a small smile. "Once I’m through with my investigation, you’ll get these back. I’m not interested in dragging anyone through the mud for having a bad day. Especially not in a city like this."

A certain weariness then flashed across his features, though his expression remained kind. He had noted her earlier apprehension, as if something had been holding her back. As a recent transplant to the city, he wasn’t about to speculate about the source of her anxiety; some things were better left buried—at least, for now.

Nevertheless, he still felt obligated to reassure her.

"You’re not the only one with a past," Steve uttered more quietly, lowering his voice so that it wouldn’t carry to the others. "Whatever happened to you out there, I’m not here to judge… I’m just trying to make sure whatever’s coming doesn’t catch the rest of the city off guard."

Again, he offered her a gentle smile before slipping the goggles into an evidence bag he produced from his pocket. As Steve sealed it up and tucked it securely into the inner lining of his jacket, he turned serious once more. His demeanor was all business. "Once you’ve had a medic check you out, I’d like a full statement… preferably before you run out of here. Donovan will get your info, and we’ll follow up."

As he dismissed Julia with a slight wave, his gaze quickly shifted toward Shimazu and the girl. He noted the tension that seemed to exist between them, but to assume details about this strange partnership would be unprofessional, just as it had been uncouth for him to speculate about Julia’s past. It was best to stick with the facts.

And yet, his instincts told him the girl, Sarah, wanted out.

She appeared eager… agitated…

Shimazu suggested some fresh air to clear her mind…

Steve nodded once, acknowledging both the man’s courtesy and the weight behind his request. Unfortunately, he wouldn’t be doing his job if he allowed the girl to walk, especially with her odd behavior. If she truly had nothing to hide, why was she so nervous?

"I won’t keep her long, Mr. Shimazu," Steve replied in a measured tone, his gaze never wavering from the other man’s face. "But considering someone just… portaled away with another person, plus there’s talk of the Blue Dragons being involved, and the occult… well, I’d like to get names straight before anyone takes off. If she’s a suspect," he paused to dispel any objections by raising a hand, "and I’m not saying she is one, but people don’t get to walk out of a crime scene without at least confirming who they are and what they saw. That includes your ‘patron’, too."

Steve inclined his chin and regarded Kenzo with a shrewd expression.

"This isn’t me being difficult, Mr. Shimazu. This is me keeping things from spiraling out of control. You understand."

Leaving her alone to fend for herself? Bah. Nancy preferred to fight solo. It kept things simple. There would be no one to worry about. No one to cry over. Her father had already been a victim of the Delgatos. She didn't want anyone else to become a victim of her quest for vengeance, especially some jumpstart kid hero.

As the girl took out the final thug with ease, however, Nancy couldn't help but to feel impressed. Perhaps she was wrong about her.

"Fine," Nancy replied. "I suppose you've earned it."

A sharp audible hiss echoed in the room. The back of Zero-Zero began to transform; machine parts whirling to allow Nancy to eject from the cockpit. Placing the exosuit on stand-by mode, Nancy climbed out and approached the student, who was now carefully inching her way towards the Delgato thugs.

As Nancy approached Madalyne, she would see a girl around her age and height. Where flesh would be, most was now replaced with complex machinery and computers. Her half-robotic face would show little to no expression, as Nancy waited for her reaction.

"This is why." Nancy explained. "These implants are the only thing keeping me alive."

She glanced at the Delgatos, who had since been knocked out on the ground.

"My mother was always tough on crime. She didn't bow to them like everyone else did, so what did these bastards do? They planted a bomb to try and kill my mother. Except it wasn't her that night, and my father died trying to keep me alive."

Nancy arched her foot, and kicked one of the Delgato thugs in the ribs. The tone of her voice grew harsher, fueled by a sudden anguish, as she spoke in regards to the thugs. Clearly, some unresolved anger issues began to rear their ugly face as the memory of her near death experience came back.

"Guess what, assholes! You failed. You thought you could rid yourself of a "problem". Oh no, it isn't that easy. I'm coming for you. All of you. You can't stop the inevitable. I'm going to crush Anthony and his little syndicate for what he did, so stay the hell out of my way!"

K E N Z O Y A M A M O T O

Location: The Lucky Noodle, Little Asia
Interactions: Detective Steve Donahue, Ken Shimazu

Kenzo gave the detective a side glance. Frankly, he didn't like the city's police department much. Although the detective seemed like someone who takes his job seriously, that is at least something honorable.

Ken looked at Shimazu with a bit of regret. While the attack of the monster was something out of his bounds, he didn't have the obligation to try and fight off the Blue Dragons; he knew that, for the most part, he just showed up, asked for the "best plate" and kicked some ass. Which isn't really a good way to introduce yourself.

Ken lifted his hand and waved at the detective. Smiling, but also serious. "Hey, Mr. Detective?" He scratched his head as he approached the detective a bit. "My name is Kenzo Yamamoto... You probably don't know anything about me."

Kenzo laughed slightly, "And, I know this just sounds dumb." He also rolled his eyes, gritting his teeth a bit. "But that girl who was snatched is well known by a lot of the people here. Mostly the old man and the girl..." Kenzo's words drifted off.

"I'm just saying... I don't doubt they want to help find her."

@Master EffeX The door to the private study would open by a bodyguard and another man entered the room which was"The collection would be mine." Anthony Delgato himself, the man was in his late fifties he turned to his son who was standing nearby and gestured for him to leave. "You may leave, i'll have a talk with you about your failure last night at the docks privately." Anthony said to his son, which Steffan looked very annoyed

"C'mon really?" Steffan said looking at his father, he gave him a very serious look. "Fine, fine." Steffan said as he looked towards Keyrs for a moment. "See you later I guess." He said as he let himself out, and the bodyguard closing the door shortly behind him. Anthony closed his eye and sighed for a moment before wandering over towards a wine cabinet nearby and grabbed himself two glasses motioning for Keyrs to join him. "Some people are very unreliable at times." Anthony said as he went to take a seat at the table at the end of the room. "Would you like a drink?" He offered her as he took a sip of the wine before setting it down.

@IAmTheIsland Amara sat down and crossed her legs as she poured herself a cup of tea as she listened to Taiwu as he spoke, taking interest in the two girls that were mentioned. "Magic takes many forms." She said as Amara looked at the man before him. "There is Eldritch magic, practitioners of this magic tend to make deals with other worldly beings in order to use their magic." Amara said as she snapped her fingers and a ball of flame appeared in her hand, then it suddenly turned into water, and then dirt from around the ground suddenly appeared as well.

"There is elemental and nature magic, which I am sure you understand on some level." Amara said as she waved her hand and the display of magic stopped. Amara noticed a rat scurrying around on the floor and gestured towards it and held out her hand and the rat suddenly dropped dead, before waving her hand and a small light appeared over its body, and the rat slowly started to get up and quickly scurried away and into a hole nearby.

"Then there is healing magic as well as death magic." Amara told him and then she snapped her fingers a bright light would appear over their heads, and then she waved her hand once more and it disappeared and then she waved her hand and the room became very dark and they were plunged into complete darkness then the room suddenly turned back to normal. "As well as light and shadow magic." Amara said looking at him before snapping her finger one last time and a syringe and a small vial would appear on the table. "If you want me to figure out this one's magic I require some form of a blood sample from her to determine which is hers if you wish for a price of course that is." Amara offered.

@Tally Dor As the Weeping appeared in the same alleyway earlier, he would be able to hear the sounds of an ambulance at the opposite direction of where he was facing. If he went to investigate what was happening, he would notice the thug that he had impaled earlier was slowly being taken in a bloodied blanket was slowly being covered over his dead body. He would however notice a man in normal clothing, but attached to his hip he would notice a standard issue sidearm along with a badge nearby on his hip with the emblem of DSHA on it.

The man was writing and taking down notes, when he picked up his phone and started to speak into it. "Hello, yes ma'am i'm on the scene right now, got an anonymous report from a passerby but they left the scene and found the body, but tried talking to the locals and they said they didn't see or notice anything." The man said as he paced around slightly before nodding. "Alright i'll continue to keep an eye out for anything suspicious." He said before hanging up his phone, and made his way towards his car.

@McNephelim@Silver Carrot@IAmTheIsland@Skelm Some chatter could be heard from Officer Donovan's radio, something about a store being held up by some people. "Alright i'm on my way." Donovan said as he looked at Steve for a moment. "The case is yours now, just keep me updated and if you need me for anything." The officer said as he looked towards Julia. "The ambulance should be here soon." He said as the officer turned and started to head out, and a few seconds later an ambulance rolled in and a paramedic started to get out and made his way into the Lucky Noodle looking over at the group before noticing Julia's injuries. "Is anyone else here injured?" He asked the group, everyone else appeared to be fine as he started to pull out his first aide kit motioning for Julia to approach.

@IAmTheIsland The walk over towards the 70th Street HQ wasn't to far, inside there were a few members of the gang out on a few tables counting out all of the money that they had stolen not to long ago. They were putting through currency counters and neatly tying them off and storing them away. One of them named Fred was overseeing the operation was sorting through the ones that weren't good due to dye packs going off making some of them completely useless. "Yo whats up?" He asked looking over towards Theresa as she entered the little hideout as he waved her over, Fred was mostly known for doing all of the accounting for the gang with the money that they stolen.

"Awesome." Diana said to Wolfe as she looked at the woman as she fired off another bolt of lightning hitting Diana in the chest and knocking her back leaving a nasty burn and singe mark on her chest. Groaning slightly as she slowly stood up and dusted herself off. She quickly teleported again getting behind the woman she fired off a normal arrow at the woman, managing to get her in the back. She caught a small glimpse of KT hiding nearby as she read her mind.

"So you work for the Delgatos?" Diana asked the woman as she turned around to face Diana and tried to attack her again. "They paid me to attack this place, cuz you attacked our operation on the docks last night!" She yelled as Daian dodged again, as Diana launched another arrow this time was an explosive arrow and managed to hit the woman knocking her back making the woman slammed into a wall nearby knocking the woman out. Diana went over towards the woman lightly tapping her on the leg when she was satsified that the woman wasn't getting up she radioed Wolfe. "You can lift the lockdown now Wolfe." Diana said over the radio. 'Thanks for the help' Diana said to KT in her head.

Madalyne started to relax seeing that the last of them was dealt with, she turned around hearing the hissing sound coming from the robot, she was surprised to see a girl around her age coming out of it. She was half expecting the suit was an actual robot, as Madalyne took a step to the side letting Nancy take her anger out on the unconscious Delgato thug. Madalyne got a better look at Nancy's face seeing the cybernetics.

"For what its worth, i'm sorry to hear what happened to your father." Madalyne said as she lightly tapped the unconcious Delgato with her foot turning her attention towards Nancy and extended her hand towards her. "I'm Madalyne Crane by the way." She said introducing herself to Nancy as she looked at the bodies once more. "What do you want to do about them?" Madalyne asked.

Ken Shimazu & Sarah King

Inside the Lucky Noodle, with Steve Donahue, Kenzo Yamamoto,,& Julia Kray

"I understand, Detective," Shimazu spoke with an aire of professionalism, hinting to his prior life with the PCPD. "You're obliged to follow standard procedure."

Sarah's face contorted into visible discomfort when the Detective voiced his decision. She felt every inch of her body quiver beneath her skin. The muscles in her legs twitched nervously; though she stood still to her spot, she felt as though they might run off on their own, leaving the rest of her behind. The pulse of energy returned to her arms as she considered another expulsion of Chi as a distraction while she made a break. But a timely meeting between her eyes and Shimazu stayed her hand, aided by the departure of Donovan. She breathed, and the power that had started to gather to her palms receded into her. Her legs fell calm again, though the subtle shaking from the center of her chest continued. She began to speak, but hung onto her words, mouth hanging open. Once more, she looked to her Sensei.

Her mentor offered a slow nod; it was safe to speak honestly here.

Her body eased. If the Detective was good by her Sensei, he was good by her. "My name is Sarah King," her first words came out with a noticeable tremble. "I live over in Mapleview. I've been working here for the past six years, part-time. I've already told you what I saw happen. Like I said, I was working down in the storage room when the Blue Dragons came around, and then the other guy, or monster, whatever he was, appeared and snatched our friend Maddie. I tried to stop him, but I... I wasn't enough..." A single streak of water descended Sarah's right cheek as the last word escaped her.

Shimazu beamed at Sarah, gestured reassuringly, and turned to Steven. "To reiterate, for posterity's sake, I'm Ken Shimazu, resident of Little Asia, and proprieter of the Lucky Noodle. There was an altercation here earlier, instigated the Blue Dragons, and involving myself, my employee, and several patrons. But I do not wish to pursue legal action or charges over it; justice will find them before long. Shortly after the Blue Dragons left, another individual arrived, assualted Ms. Kray, and then escaped with Madelyne Crane as a hostage. He seemed intent on taking her in particular. He seemed to have an affinity for shadows?" Shimazu pointed to the faint shade cast beneath his feet by the overhead lighting. "He grabbed Madelyne Crane and vanished through a shadow."

"Yeah. That's how he showed up too."

"I will suggest, Detective, that if you put out an APB for this man, you include not to engage with hostility... I'm not certain his actions are entirely of his own volition; think of it in terms of a demonic possession. It may be possible to bring him in peacefully if he isn't provoked."

Both Shimazu and Sarah then turned to Julia, who seemed to know more about the man in question. "Is that accurate? The shadow part anyways?" Shimazu asked, breaking an awkward silence.

The Void Hideout, Nighthaven; with Amara

Taiwu sat quietly and studiously while Amara spoke. He observed carefully as she demonstrated the varied forms of magic. It was an impressive show if her skill and power, and unquestionably enlightening. However, he couldn't identify any of the magic she had shown him with the particular brand of power Shimazu's kid had exerted against him. Perhaps Amara had seen his puzzled, grasping grimace, as she then offered another avenue. A blood sample to study the girl's power more closely. Taiwu's frown curled upward into a grin at the proposal. "Yes. I can arrange for that." He finished his tea, and set the cup down. He stood up, and bowed respectfully. "I thank you for your time and hospitality. Once I've acquired what is needed, I will deliver it personally. And I will inform Xiao Feng to maintain a truce between your sect and the Blue Dragons, as to head off any potential unpleasantry."

With the meeting adjurned, Taiwu began down the aisle and exited the cathedral. Once outside he took up his phone and dialed the driver who had dropped him off. "My business is concluded for the time being."

Angel’s Bar, Mapleview

The walk back to the 70th Street hideout was uneventful; it was a short distance from Angel's, tucked off in a non-descript back alley, well and away from prying eyes. When she entered she saw the fruits of their morning labors spread out along folding tables with her gangmates counting the momey stolen. Off to the side Theresa could see a pile of marked bills growing. Disappointment struck her looking at the pile. All that and only three quarters of it will be worth a shit. She walked over to Fred, the accountant.

"Hey Fred." She stood beside him as another dye-stained set of bills landed on the pile. "Tell me we're gonna turn a profit off of that bank job." She grabbed a bound stack of marked money and a flipped through it like a card dealer. "Nothing useful in this once the dye is on it... by the way, is Val around?"

Katherine Tran & Horace Wolfe

Veridian Technologies, with Diana Smith

"Roger." Wolfe responded through his headset. He retrieved his security communicator and radioed to the HQ. "This Wolfe. I have confirmation that the threat has been neutralized in the Atrium. Begin procedure for ending lockdown. PCPD and DSHA will be inbound." He pocketed his device and returned to the headset, saying "I'll be right up." Securing the room as he left, he began up the stairs to the main floor.

Meanwhile, KT peered around the corner from her hiding spot. Seeing the woman incapacitated, she walked toward Artemis. "Whew. That looked like a close call. Guess you gotta be an adrenaline junkie to vibe with this life." She looked down at the woman, who was out cold. "Sorry I couldn't do more. But hey, we have a lead on why she did it and who for. Maybe we can... you know, take advantage of that. I mean, you're, err... in really good with Diana Smith, richest girl in town. And if money doesn't talk loud enough, I can try a few of my other tricks." KT tapped the side of her head with her finger.

The Weeping

Location:The Melting Pot, Paragon City

The Weeping had initially not paid too much attention to the rebar in the wall but as he glanced closer, he spotted blood. This was strange. He had left the thug uninjured. Noticing the trail of blood leading away, his focus was drawn to the sound of sirens behind him. As he turned and stayed to the shadows he witnessed the agent. Seeing the badge on his hip he felt a sudden rise of anger.

Why?

Why were they here?

Ignoring the paramedics that were moving the body and even the police officers in the distance. He stood up confidently and walked towards the agent. As he neared the man he spoke.

"Who lined your pockets to come here?"

The Agent turned to face The Weeping hand moving to his holstered sidearm. "I received a call from someone and was ordered to investigate it."

The Weeping snorted in disdain. most likely just a lowly grunt. They would know nothing. Would there even be a point to the anger that burned in his chest. "I don't need you or the agents here in my ally ways. I don't know why you have taken this sudden interest."

The agent glared at the Weeping. "Well, I don't follow your orders and I do not work for you sir. Unless you have something that will help the case I suggest you leave the scene."

A frown crossed his lips at the man's response, and he moved a bit closer as he spoke a question.

"Hatty Mcall?" A slight pause as he allowed the name to linger. "Russel Stokes?" His orange eyes never left the agents. "Jennifer Love?" A slight growl escaped his throat. "Do you even recognize any of these names?"

"No, I do not."

A slight smile creeped across The Weeping's face but it did not reach his eyes. "Of course you don't. Why would the department care about those that have gone missing or been killed here unless you've accepted a bribe?" He shook his head.

"No. Your higher ups sit in their ivory towers away from the common man and are happy to say they are upholding order as long as they really don't have to do any work."

The agent glared at the Weeping still keeping his hand on his holster. "If you have an issue with my bosses, please bring it up to them, write a complaint, or go setup an appointment and speak to them in person." The agent said. "Now unless you have something you need or can help with the investigation, I suggest you leave."

He chuckled before turning away from the man and vanishing into the shadows. Allowing his final words to hang about in the air long after he had gone. "Fine, finish up playing your part, but know those names that none of you people care about? Those people died this month and no one outside of the Melting Pot cared."

As The Weeping found himself standing in Garrett's shadow. He rubbed his chin before starling the old man.

"There is a killer about Garrett. Make sure no one goes anywhere alone if it can be helped."

The old drunk turned around a few times trying to find The Weeping but when he was unable to locate him. He nodded to the empty air as he took a swig from his brown bottle before stumbling his way towards another bum to begin the chain of relaying The Weeping's message.

Location: Delgato HQ

Keyrs drew a mental breath of relief at the collection being the Sr. Delgato's, who cut a compelling figure. Her eyes then widened with interest and some low-key concern when he laid down the game plan for talking to Steffan about his failure.

Just how did a crime boss such as this deal with failure in the family? It took Keyrs a split second to register he was talking about such having occurred at the docks, and not that that's where the private chewing out was going to take place.

Her attention had shifted between the two as they spoke, and she was inwardly pleased when Steffan looked over to give a good-bye of sorts. She smiled in answer.

Hands still clasped behind her back, Keyrs then stepped towards Anthony at his motioning, unable to keep from narrowing her eyes slightly at his comment. 'You among them, I'm sure,' were her thoughts behind the expression, though it could've been mistaken for serious agreement. In any case, she quickly shifted to being a diplomat: "It can be so hard to find consistency." It wasn't a false statement - and she did think Anthony sounded fair in his comment; getting on his good side was an honest pursuit as much as it was a necessary one.

"Oh, um-" having sat down, she was on the cusp of declining the wine, even raising her hand slightly in a dismissive gesture -after all, she had never touched the stuff before in life- but then, "-certainly. Thank you."

Her mother had always described her one experience of drinking wine as having tasted like medicine, and, though disinterested -to put it mildly- in trying most any other kind of alcohol, Keyrs had a curiosity to try it ever since.

Julia nodded, and gave the detective a half-hearted smile. She wasn't used to being talked to like this. She knew in theory that she was now just a civilian, deserving of law enforcement's protection like anyone else. It was another thing entirely to hear somebody tell her such at point blank. She was happy, but still couln't quite look him in the eye. She felt awkward, and undeserving.

"Thank you for saying that. I hope that whatever's coming isn't something that will drag me back in to trouble. I want to try a normal life for once..."

She looked over to Donovan and thanked him when he mentioned the ambulance, then turned her attention to the paramedic. Her injury, once a bleeding gash, was now half the size it had been when inflicted. Though the paramedic seemed amazed, Julia seemed crestfallen. Old age had really slowed down her healing factor. You could barely call this a healing factor anymore. It had been at least ten minutes and she still had a wound.

Julia nodded when she overheard Ken and Sarah's statement. "It looked like shadow powers, yes. That was the first time I'd ever seen him use them myself."

Nancy punted the thug with one more final kick.

"It's more than Veridian ever did for him." Nancy explained as the teenager expressed her condolences. She took a deep breath, allowing her a brief respite to calm down. "They slaughtered him in their facility and did nothing about it. He—we were swept under the rug. Their secrets were worth more than a life."

Nancy sighed, and turned her attention back to the teenager, who proceeded to introduce themselves.

"Nancy. Nancy Rodriguez." Nancy replied. She didn't like to give out her name, but it didn't matter much at the time. The Delgato thugs were all knocked out, and Madalyne had seemed at least trustworthy. "Yes, that Rodriguez. Councilwoman Rodriguez is my mother. Not that it matters, though. As far as she is aware, I died along with my father. Perhaps it's better that way. I don't want to see me like this. Like... some kind of machine. More cogs than her own daughter."

She began to walk back to Zero-Zero. A somber expression had since graced her face.

"But that's enough chit-chat for one day." Nancy spoke, activating Zero-Zero. Climbing back inside the exoskeleton, she picked up one of the Delgato thugs in her grip. "Rise and shine, sleepy head! Time to tell us everything you know, and maybe I'll let you live. And it better not be the same thing your buddy told me earlier!"

Lucky Noodle, Little Asia

Steve rocked back on his heels and absorbed the last of their comments in silence, his jaw working subtly as he tried to piece together the complex mosaic of details they had given him. Shadow manipulation. Gang interference through an orchestrated attack by the Blue Dragons. A targeted abduction. He had jotted it all down in his notebook; it helped him process things, in addition to providing him with a reference point. From his initial assessment, he deduced that none of it was routine. However, the consistency in their narratives confirmed that they were likely not hiding anything from him. They had also been cooperative when he had asked them to stay. He had to give them credit for that.

“Alright,” he said finally, his tone easing. “As far as I can tell, you’ve all been straightforward with me, and I’m not going to make any of you relive this twice. You’re not suspects, and you’re not being detained. I think I have everything I need.”

His gaze shifted briefly to Sarah, noting her restlessness. She hadn’t relaxed once since he arrived on the scene, which would’ve been suspicious in itself, but he could only presume she wanted to help her friend. He couldn’t fault her for that. In fact, it was admirable.

“If you need air, water… whatever helps,” he canted his head toward Sarah and offered a thin smile, “take it. Just stay relatively close, so I know you’re alright.”

Steve turned to Shimazu next, nodding to offer his respect to the old man. “Your assessment of the suspect is noted,” he stated firmly, tapping the end of his pen against the pages of his notepad. “If this individual is acting under coercion, or something akin to possession, I’ll make sure to include that addendum to the APB; that it warrants caution. The last thing I need is some rookie charging a potentially compromised meta and making a hostage situation worse.”

A knowing smile touched his lips, almost as if he expected the other man to understand his predicament. They shared a mutual bond in the sense that Mr. Shimazu used to serve as a law enforcement officer for the PCPD. That was all the respect he needed.

He held the old man’s gaze a moment longer before turning to regard Julia. “And you, Ms. Kray,” he spoke in a more somber tone, “you did the right thing turning over the goggles. I’m not interested in dragging you backward over mistakes you’ve already paid for. Once I pull the footage, they go straight back to you. You have my word.”

Straightening, Steve issued a sigh and tucked the notepad into his breast pocket before addressing the group as a whole. “From here, the rest is on me. I’ll file the initial report, escalate the abduction up the chain, and get the APB out with the shadow-ability advisory attached. I’ll also have a tech run a cross-reference on Blue Dragon activity in the area. There might be a connection, or it could just be a case of lousy timing, but either way, I’m going to include it. Better safe than sorry.”

His gaze drifted toward one of the darker corners of the diner, a hint of unease flickering over his features.

“I also want to ensure we’re not dealing with more than one shadow being… or walker,” he continued with more caution. “If someone targeted Madelyne Crane specifically, there’s a reason… and we’re going to find it.”

A warm smile touched his lips as he returned his attention to the group. “You’ve all done more than enough today. Just sit tight for a few more minutes, and then you’re free to head out.”

@Master EffeX Anthony started to pour Keyrs her glass of wine and handed it towards her. "He's young, someday he'll have to take up my position business can be messy if you fuck up to much." Anthony said as he sat down across from her and then pulled out a tablet, bringing up a display of a local new station. He was having a debate later in the evening against his mayoral opponent and handed it over towards her. "My men told me that you were good with tech." He said as he studied the woman very closely. "I'd like you to be among my security detail for the debate tonight. And if everything goes well tonight i'd like to offer you a job here as my cyber security expert when we go out for jobs." Anthony said as he looked at her studying to see her reaction to his offer.

@IAmTheIsland "Of course you know where I will be." Amara said as she watched Taiwu getting up and headed out of her Cathedral she to disappeared into the shadows. Outside the driver had dropped off Xiao Feng on another errand that he had been called away for. The car slowly approached and stopped in front of the Void's Catherdral in front of Taiwu. "Were you able to find out what you needed?" The driver asked, a young man in his early thirties by the looks of it as he got out and opened the rear passenger door for him.

@Tally Dor The officer was a little weirded out by The Weeping the moment he had disappeared from view, once Garret had stumbled off to spread the message of the killer. The air around The Weeping suddenly dropped and a familiar voice would sound coming from all around him, when he turned around he would see Amara standing there leaning up against a nearby wall. "Any updates on the task that I had given you?" Amara asked The Weeping as she looked over at him.

@McNephelim@Silver Carrot@IAmTheIsland@Skelm The paramedic finished cleaning up Julia's wound and gently gave the woman a pat on the shoulder. "You are good to go ma'am looks like you won't have to go to the hospital today." He said as he dug through his first aid kit pulling out a roll of bandages. "Just change it every few hours and keep it clean and you are good to go." The paramedic said as he overheard the conversation and looked towards the detective. "You'd probably should look up the girls parents and give them a call as well to." He said somewhat familiar with police protocols to.

@IAmTheIsland "Oh we are gonna make bank on this job, just sometimes you aren't as lucky when bills are attatched to dye packs and they go off." Fred said as he finished tossing the last of the useless bills into the bin and lightly kicked the box over towards another gang member who picked it up and started to bring it over towards a nearby furnace to burn the useless money. "I believe Val is in the back." Fred said as he gestured towards the rear door in the room which was her office of sorts.

Diana Smith

Location: Veridian Technologies, Nighthaven, Paragon City
Skills: Teleportation, Archery

"Sounds good and see you in a bit." Said Diana as she smiled slightly. "Its an alright side job if you can get past being shot at or getting smacked around." Diana said with a slight shrug as she gently rested a hand on KT's shoulder and gave her friend a smile. "You helped enough to get the woman distracted so I could take her out." Diana said to KT, the lockdown was lifted and the security grates over the main entrance to the atrium and windows were lifted.

A swarm of PCPD, and DSHA started to enter the building along with a few paramedics as well to take care of any of the injured who got hurt in the firefight. "Pretend that you don't know me at all." Diana whispered to KT as she quietly watched them go to work, the DSHA agents quickly sent to secure the attacker putting on power inhibitor cuffs and collar around the woman and started to drag her off.

Madalyne Crane

Location: Financial District (Zero-Zero's Hideout)
Skills: Eldritch Blast

Madalyne listened to Nancy as she introduced herself her story seemed to be really sad as she looked down at the unconscious Delgato thug. "Maybe you should meet your mom when you get the chance." Madalyne suggested as she looked at her. "Maybe it'll give her some closure or something. I myself never really met my birth parents I was adopted." Madalyne said as she moved over towards a nearby wall and leaned herself up against it as Nancy climbed back into the suit and started to wake up the Delgato thug.

The Delgato thug started to let out a groan as he started to come to, being held by the robot he started to panic and thrash around a bit. "Put me down!" He said as he tried to look for his weapon but couldn't find it, Madalyne found it laying on the ground and picked up the handgun. "Looking for this?" He asked holding the handgun in her hand, his eyes went wide for a moment as he panicked. "Hey listen we were told this place was abandoned we didn't know anyone was living here, we were expanding!" He told Nancy.

Lucky Noodle, Little Asia; with Ken Shimazu, Kenzo Yamamoto, Julia Kray, & Detective Steven Donahue

“If you need air, water… whatever helps, take it.”

The words from the detective washed over Sarah like a warm shower at the end of a long day out in the cold. The ease of calm that had eluded her through most of the questioning settled in, and she managed a deep breath without Shimazu’s urging. But in sharp contradiction, the relaxation that she had found gave her little in the way of immediate strength to make the beeline through the kitchen she had planned on. Instead, she remained in place, albeit not nearly as agitated by her stillness, which, to that point, she had been held to against her own will. Was that the manner of temperance Shimazu had lectured her about so many times? It was either that, or the simple fact that she realized standing still had left her legs feeling numb. Regardless, she stayed in the dining room long enough to hear everything that Steve had to say.

Once he had concluded, Sarah turned, and doubled down on her stated intention. “Getting some air.” She stopped mid-turned and looked at Kenzo as she oriented herself towards the kitchen. She pointed the way with a nod. “You can come along, if you still want to.” She shrugged. Not waiting for a response, she walked by him and into the kitchen, breaking step only to fill a cup of water as she passed a sink with a filtered tap -an excuse for her going out through the back door-. After chugging from and emptying the cup, she continued through the backroom, and cracked the door into the alleyway open; she checked one way, and then the other, but saw no one. She swung the door open fully, and went outside where she leaned against the backside of the restaurant.

She pulled the amulet out from her pocket, and resumed examining it, now away from the prying eyes of either the Detective or Julia; it was still directing her in an eastward direction, though how far she’d need to go, the amulet didn’t say outright. Just don’t make me have to leave the city. She tucked the amulet back into her pocket, and placed her head back against the wall. She’d give Kenzo a minute, two tops, to decide if he wanted to stick around for more police banter; if she knew Shimazu, he’d want to have a proper conversation with the detective.

Lucky Noodle, Little Asia; with Sarah King, Steven Donahue, Kenzo Yamamoto, and Julia Kray

Ken Shimazu surrendered himself to silent observation after all accounts had been given. He watched with interest as Detective Donahue went to work piecing together the information he had been given. The look on the Detective’s face, and his overall body language was something he was very well-acquainted with; he had seen it in other detectives throughout his years with the police department, and even felt it in himself in his prime. It was the turning of gears, stringing events and clues together. It was the process of making sense out of calamity. Watching it unfold upon Steven brought back its share of memories, for good or ill. For that nostalgia, and the due respect given to the sanctity of that thought process, he kept a quiet vigil, so as not to disrupt the Detective’s train of thought.

When Steve finally spoke again, Shimazu followed his gaze and landed his own on Sarah as well. He was ready to provide additional assurance to her, but was pleased to see that she had calmed herself down without anything further from him. Progress is progress. A faint smile etched itself across his face, and only grew inward when he noticed that Sarah remained still for a moment longer. When she did finally make her way from the dining room, he acknowledged her stated intent, though knowing his student left him certain that she’d move on her ulterior motives sooner rather than later. “Just stick close by the shop for now,” he reminded her as she entered the kitchen.

He followed his pupil by her energy alone as she exited. Sensing that she hadn’t simply sprinted off, but stayed just outside of the back door, he shifted his gaze, again following in tow with the Detective’s in eying a darkened corner of the room. The thought of more beings like the one from before hadn’t occurred to him until that moment. He was compelled to question why only one of them would have attacked if there were others, but kept that question to himself; Donahue was likely thinking along similar lines without him interjecting.

Lingering on that thought he narrowed onto the corner of the room he and the Detective were looking at. “If there are any others like him, I can say with some certainty that there aren't any here at the moment.”

Hoping he had put that concern to rest for the moment, he turned to face Donahue. “This is by no means to dissuade you from investigating any connections, but I wouldn’t dwell too deeply on the Blue Dragons’ involvement in the abduction. Xiao Feng has been vying to expand into this part of Little Asia for a while now. His visit was, at least on the surface, for the sake of bringing me and my shop under his influence. Humph… as if I needed his protection. No. It was only a matter of time before that situation escalated.”

Nighthaven, with The Driver

Taiwu sat himself into the rear passenger seat of the car, and settled in comfortably. As the driver pulled away from the old church, he watched the building fall away into the distance through the side mirror. A part of him wondered if Amara would have him followed; as well as any meetings among the city’s underground had ever gone, the seeds of distrust between the gangs, organizations, and other assorted communities had been planted decades prior. To be certain, he would uphold his end of the bargain, and see to it that anyone that misstepped was punished accordingly. “The conversation was most illuminating.” He answered the driver while still looking through the mirror on his door. “But the knowledge I seek will require some additional effort.” Xiao Feng’s plan to strike the Lucky Noodle through proxies seemed even more appealing; one of them could take the blood from the girl, and bring it to him.

70th Street Hideout, Mapleview; with Fred & Valentina Vega

Theresa took in the growing stack of large bills for a minute longer, absorbing Fred’s assessment that the haul would be enough to turn a profit. As nervous as the dye-stained money made her, she allowed herself to trust in Fred’s accounting skill, and take his word that the heist had been a success; he hadn’t allowed The 70th to operate at loss so far. She took a closer look at the piles, which indicated the accuracy of his statement. “I’ll take your word for it then.” She didn’t make any further comment, and proceeded to the door to Val’s office, making three gentle (for her) knocks. “Val, It’s Theresa,” she said, though announcing herself might have been more of a formality.

Nighthaven - Veridian Technologies; Atrium

Katherine Tran, Horace Wolfe, & Greg Vaughn; with Artemis

“Glad I could help.” KT spoke with a glaze of uncertainty. She stuck close to her friend as several squads of police and DSHA agents entered the atrium. Don’t worry, I won’t give anything away.

“Alright, I need this whole floor secured. Agent Norris will lead the inquiry of witnesses; only question people who AREN’T being seen by medics this time, understood?” A tall, lean man with a clean haircut, a trimmed beard, and glasses had entered the atrium. He was adorned by a navy blue windbreaker with the DSHA emblem on the right side of the chest area. He was flanked by a squad of similarly dressed people, and was directing them with rapid efficiency. When he arrived before the restrained woman, stopped and ordered the agent handling her: “Get her into the containment van; I want facial recognition and an ID as soon as possible.”

He then looked at Artemis and KT; the surname “Vaughn” became clearly visible as he turned. “Artemis,” he said cordially. “Thank you for your help, as always.”

“Deputy Director Vaughn.” Wolfe had returned with a contingent of his security team, the majority of whom dispersed to assist the medics and law enforcement. “Good to see you again. Though I hadn’t expected you to be here.”

“Ah. Of course, Horace; just a shame for it to be under these circumstances. Naturally a blindside attack by a Super on the largest company in the city warrants high level response. I was in the area anyway.”

“Naturally.” Wolfe agreed. “What’s the status of the attacker?

“Secured and in the process of being contained. Once she becomes conscious we can start the interrogation and get to the bottom of why she targeted Veridian.”

“She was hired by the Delgatos.” KT had stepped forward and spoken up. “But I couldn’t figure out why they hired her.”

Vaughn raised an eyebrow at KT. “I’m sorry, I don’t believe we’ve met.”

“Sorry. I’m Katherine Tran. KT for short. I’m a friend of Diana Smith. I came here to see her; we were about to go grab lunch together when that woman showed up and started making a mess of things. Mr. Wolfe was able to get Diana to safety. But I… I fell behind and figured I’d help Artemis.”

“And how did you figure you could help?” Vaughn inquired skeptically.

“Well, Mr…?”

“Greg Vaughn. Deputy Director of The Department of Superhuman Affairs.”

“Well, you see Mr. Vaughn, I’m a Telepath. If you check the records you’ll find my name listed; I was trained to control my powers when I was high school. I can communicate telepathically, read minds and such. That’s how I found out the woman worked for Delgato.”

“A mind reader?” Vaughn leaned forward. “Show me.”

“Uh…” KT blushed. “What do you mean?”

“I can’t be so sure about what you’ve told me without you proving it. So I’m requesting that you read my mind. Tell me, what I’m thinking.”

“That sounds reasonable.” Wolfe chimed in. “Please, Ms. Tran. Deputy Director Vaughn is only here to help.”

“OK then.” KT focused. Her eyes locked with the Deputy’s for a moment, during which she seemed to go rigid as she probed as deep as she could without violating too much of his privacy. “Right now, you’re thinking about why the Delgatos would want to attack Veridian.”

“Gonna need something a bit less obvious,” Vaughn replied, not breaking eye contact.

“You’re also considering how to best break the news of this event to the media.”

Vaughn nodded and gestured for something more. “Better, but still…”

“Aaand… hoping that the fish tacos you bought for lunch are still warm.”

Vaughn backed away. He hid a small shred of embarrassment behind a humored smile. “Well that satisfies me. So we have an electrokinetic hitwoman hired by the Delgatos to assault Veridian Technologies.” He looked around from Wolfe on his right to Artemis on his left. “Yeah… yeah.” He nodded and placed his fingers on his chin. He wore the distinct look of someone whose brain was rapidly connecting dots into a picture. “I’m gonna need all three of you to talk with me in private,” he said at last

“I think we can arrange that.”

“Right now?”

“I don’t see why not?” Wolfe looked to Artemis. “If you can spare the time.”

“Should we wait for Diana?” KT asked.

“I don’t believe that will be necessary to Deputy Director Vaughn’s intentions.”

“It’s probably best not to involve the Smiths in this matter,” Vaughn agreed. “Though…” He looked to Artemis with the hint of a dissecting flare in his eyes, and then backtracked to KT, and finally landed on Wolfe. “I don’t doubt that Diana will be informed one way or another.”

“We can meet in my office then,” Wolfe said, ignoring Vaughn’s suspicious glare. “More privacy there than upstairs; the executives will be wanting to ask questions.”

The Weeping

Location:The Melting Pot, Paragon City

The Weeping glanced towards Amara. His expression was neutral but inwardly he frowned. This woman again.

"I did attempt it but was met with failure."

He shook his head. Recalling what the girl had done. He rubbed his chest recalling the feeling and then the silence as that one voice went to sleep and he now found himself back in the driver's seat. His mind halfway wondering when or if the spirit would awaken. His orange eyes flickered towards the woman and he gave her a slight bow.

"I appreciate your offer about the Delgato's but I have decided to go about it another way." He glanced upward. "I would appreciate it if you don't intrude in my alleyways any longer."

Location: Delgato HQ - Study

Keyrs nodded to Anthony's statement about business. It applied to more than just that, she thought.

She took a sip of her wine as he brought out the tablet.
It wasn't so medicinal tasting in her opinion, though she wouldn't be trading her sparkling fruit juices for it on special occasions.

Keyrs put her glass down to accept the tablet, expecting to see CCTV footage of some tech shortcoming of the Delgato's, or perhaps something on the market that wanted improving upon. She did not expect what she heard Anthony say, and her surprise would've been evident in the widening of her eyes and raising of her brows, though the positioning of her head looking down at the tablet, and the reflection of the screen and other lighting on her visor may've obscured it.

Security detail right off!
Keyrs supposed this could be considered a hands-on interview, and she liked it.

Compared to the process she had to go through for Veridian Tech. this was cake!
So long as she didn't blow it from here. . .

Keyrs read what was on the screen. She was never one who followed political matters too closely -too many other things vying for her brain's attention- so long as she had enough information to make an informed vote. Though one couldn't miss the ads. She liked Anthony's mayoral competition. But could she let him know that?

Keyrs shifted her eyes up to look at Anthony a moment; nothing telling in her neutral expression.

Eyes back down on the screen, she took on a considering air: "Rather an ambitious goal in this city," she said of Tara Farelle, her tone belying any faith Keyrs had in her, even as Keyrs added, "I mean if anyone can achieve the perceived-impossible I would place my bets on a woman. Though," she passed the tablet back over to Anthony, "we'll see how her manner of approach fares."

"So, what sort of threats might I expect as your detail? Any clever assassination attempts on your life in the past?" She crossed her legs with a composed and self-assured manner.
