Name: Lina Artemesia Himawari Thornwood
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Hometown: Thornwood Estate, Nacrene City (just outside of it but still part of it), Unova (Former)Thornwood Estate, Wailport, Eidda (Current)Appearance:A girl standing at the respectable enough height of 5’9”, and with naturally very smooth black hair that has been partially red to layer it for stylistic purposes, Lina upon first glance seems the part of a stereotypical teen who has a bit of a mood to her potentially. She likewise has a pair of somewhat determined yet oddly calm and rather light green eyes in turn, however, and while she is generally fair skinned she couldn’t be called ‘the palest’ sort of person who burns more easily in the sunlight. Meanwhile her exposed stomach as well as her legs show signs of well-built and leaner muscles for stamina purposes, as well as from things such as sit-ups and the like. Even so, the back of her right leg and thigh have three long, claw-like and large bits of scarred tissue visible. She also has what looks like a singular former-hole in her right foot, covered in scar tissue, as if something punctured her foot at some point or another and then healed up.
She most often wears her usual comfortably-sized black pants, longer-than-normal red belt, and a pair of red sneakers on her feet. While her shoes currently seem to be relatively new, however, they also seem to be generally ‘broken in’ for sure in kind. Beyond that, her usual stylized and ‘hip’ but simple white crop top adorns her torso. Meanwhile a bracelet whose attached symbol is a pair of connected triangles, perhaps meaning infinity or being an hourglass-like symbol depending on the angle at which it is observed, and her left wrist is adorned with a golden yellow and fancy top-shelf-brand smart watch made ‘to last’ as the brand so describes it. The watch likewise comes with a silver ‘buckle’ on the bottom of the wrist and a black colored face on top. She also wears a pair of shin-length all-black colored socks for long distance travel, being built of materials resistant to wear and tear and prevent blisters which likewise insulate from the hot and cold alike well in due fashion…and even repel water for that matter. A rather expensive type of travel socks only the most wealthy and seasoned/experienced hikers might recognize for their high price point and top-grade make as ‘really good gear’.
Personality:Lina for the most part would seem a strange person to some out there almost assuredly, whether it be her blank-looking and unamused yet somehow stoic demeanor on the average, her curious and inquisitive nature for peculiar things at times, or even her ability to process and learn things at a level well beyond her age group. While seemingly pragmatic and ‘chill’ in other manners, she also is one to speak her mind without so much as an ounce of hesitation one moment when walking with compatriots or an actual friend and then able to tacitly hold her tongue the next when in a much more formal setting. A person who doesn’t give regards for others and where they come from or who they are, save for how they act and behave, in the way she treats them while not being as heartless as one could mistake her for being. All of this while simultaneously being able to recognize where things such as rank and the formality of things need to be observed in a functional sense, at least unless she’s in a particular mood about something or someone to break convention otherwise when it comes to specific matters. In that sense she’s a peculiarity and an enigma to some, focused and driven yet odd in her behaviors in a way that alienates some but might mesh well with others.
Do not mistake her for an uncaring, bored rich kid who gets by lazily and has all she wants and so forth, or one who is especially becoming a trainer on daddy’s money, a stereotype she usually worries to face and at times has had to in the non-trainer sense before this point in time. Likewise if one needs a shoulder to cry on, or someone to sit there silently with you late at night because you can’t sleep, she’s the one to do it without saying a word most likely. And if you want her to back off? She grasps boundaries in that sense too if given the signal to do so, in that sense, that people have their limits and sometimes ‘you just gotta sit the crap out yourself’ as she’d rather bluntly put the matter. At the same time, she fears things such as crying in front of others, being ‘a liability’, or truly totally isolated and alone from everyone else around her in her life. She doesn’t want to be alone, and at least Jorm and her Pokemon help with that. Yet as a person? It still rings well enough a sentiment on her part, even if she’s not apt to admit such to others easily on her part by choice and personal preference unless truly forced to or trusting of another well enough to do so.
And if you back her when things get tough? She’ll do the same for you in kind in all likelihood.
Backstory:It all began with a simple story of two people coming together, in this case Lina and her younger brother’s parents. Her father was a 25 year old aspiring board member of a Pokeball-produicing company who was going to the Orre region to help negotiate an important trade deal for the Castelia-city based company, meanwhile her mother was a 23 year old lab assistant who alongside her Porygon was meeting the same ship her father was on in order to help process the shipment of Pokemon it was also bringing to the region. It was here they met at Gateon Port, where her father famously missed a step of the gangplank and went into the sea after being distracted by him seeing her mother for the first time. Her mother and her Porygon helped fish him out of there alongside the sailors, though it wasn’t until she saw him treading water well enough that she ‘felt sorry’ for him and treated him to an early lunch as he waited for the Orre representative to meet him at the port for the business meeting. It was here the two chatted about things a bit, her being surprised to see how composed he was compared to the ‘usual suit wearing types’ she’d seen ‘who’d have freaked out badly over the matter of falling into the sea like that’. He in turn felt she had a ‘tough but sweet charm to her’, her having grown up in Pyrite Town before her family moved to a city and she managed to get a higher education online before working at the region’s sole Pokemon Lab after watching the trademark ‘colosseum’ style battles held in Orre for all of her life. From here, even after his meeting, he took several more days to see the woman he had met. She did similarly take a couple of more days to meet the odd foreign businessman who seemed to not be adverse to hard work.
In the end, one thing led to another and love blossomed, leading to their marriage in her home city of Phenac for the sake of her family, and the two leaving to return to Unova to begin a new life together. For her it was strange to go from the wastes of Orre, where wild Pokemon still barely were beginning to come in and importing Pokemon was still the norm due to how scare they were overall there in the wild, and yet it turned out even the realm of Unovan prosperity still held just as many dangers of their own hidden in alleys and other such places. And while her husband was one to not hesitate to work with his hands, he had to handle the sort of politics that gave her a headache just to think about, and yet they still supported each other in the end regardless. Helped each other, and forged a bond in the fires of life. She worked in helping analyze data for Pokemon researchers and Professors as a ‘side gig’ at home for a time, and he continued to seek out ‘getting to the top’ so he could prove himself to….well….himself in part, but also ‘ensure my family won’t have to go hungry or wanting’ in his own words after she first became pregnant. So Lina’s mother retired from most of her side work, save for a bit to keep herself busy alongside her first child….a little girl she named Lina after her own sister who had passed away as a teen from a rockslide incident back in Orre years ago when they were both kids. And a few years later, a second child would be born in turn, Lina’s younger brother Nicolas.
From here, Lina’s story could be said to ‘truly’ begin, and to say it was its own form of ‘eventful’ would be an understatement on the part of her parents.
Starting with a chance encounter in a park in Johto, that her parents were visiting on a vacation with her at the time, she as a crawling, cooing, giggling baby would blitz off on all fours the moment she got the chance. It was at some point thereafter that a top trainer named Clyde’s Steelix, which had been released to wander about a bit and get some time to sit in the sun, would notice the small, squishy, utterly blind to danger baby crawling about with no parents in sight. Call it the surprise good fortune of a young and learning couple trying to be parents, but said Steelix would gently let her climb onto its head before it began to very carefully slither about looking for her parents. She, for her part, was happy as a clam and sat there looking at things from up high and enjoyed the ride. Her parents, for their part, went pale in the face but were overjoyed when the giant Steelix approaching them eventually would gently lean down to give back their lost baby. Shortly thereafter the Steelix’s trainer would come in tow, out of breath almost from the blitz over to where his Pokemon and this couple were, and the situation would find itself properly explained as they all put together what went on.
And with some talking, chatting long-distance, and inviting the trainer whose well behaved Pokemon had found their beloved little girl and
not squished her into a pancake along for the rest of the vacation (along with his wife in turn), it would lead ultimately to Top Trainer Clyde and his former Pokemon Breeder wife Lydia to becoming Lina and her younger brother’s very own godparents. Thus with a new family friend, and his cool shiny (as in they look shiny, not as in a 'shiny Pokemon' shiny) Steelix and so forth, Lina ended her first little adventure with Pokemon. Yet the adventures would not end here either, as it would turn out, for better or for worse alike.
At the age of four, a ghost type nuisance at a zoo in Galar phased her through the barriers and she ended up sleeping on the back of a rather large Copperajah. It simply covered her up partly with a big leaf nearby like a blanket, and the two napped until her parents and zoo keepers entered the habitat to request the baby back. The Pokemon gladly and sleepily accepted, gently lifting her off its back and handing her over before falling asleep again in the warm midday sun. This also ended with her attempting to sneak home a little Sizzlipede she had already nicknamed ‘Bacon’, who along with her attempted to make Baby-Doll Eyes at her parents so it could come home with them. While this ultimately did not succeed, the Sizzlipede was sent to Clyde and Lydia to care for at their sanctuary as a ‘pet’ for their own family.
At the age of six, she and her parents were on a Kantonian beach trip, when she found an Omanyte wiggling along the beach shore. She proceeded to get excited, talk to it and hug it, and then her and several other kids running around within mostly parental reach pretended to make a cult to the now-nicknamed “Mr. Squiddy”. For his part, the little Omanyte was entertained and happy to play along for one reason or another, despite being an invasive species of sorts at the time.
At the age of seven, she accidentally fished up a Dhelmise in Alola that was content to be entertained by the small human and swing her around on its anchor for giggles, and she had fun for what it was worth as well. Near the end of the same vacation, a Merciless Mareanie in Alola pierced her foot with its spike when she got almost a bit too far away to investigate it, before being rushed to a hospital to get treatment thereafter. Needed a Chansey with the move tutor move Heal Bell to be brought in to treat her when the local hospital had not enough antivenom to do more than stabilize her. Had to have surgery to fix the big hole in the center of her foot thereafter to boot.
At the age of eleven, she ignored her godfather’s rather stern warnings about sneaking into the secure isolation pen to see the new Aggron they had taken in just before she and her brother had arrived to stay with them a few days. In turn she’d managed to dupe and escape the attentive care of his Steelix, however, before she got in and her leg slashed nearly to ribbons by its Metal Claw move. If not for his timely intervention, the Steelix deflecting the Aggron away and then shielding her, and distance from her to the Aggron initially when it had swiped at her, the lacerations she got would have led to one less leg and its jaws and gaping maw would have clamped shut over her head soon thereafter. Yet she did now have some rather wicked scars following the surgery done to her leg and the year and a half of recovery and physical therapy that followed until her leg was properly back to normal once more. This also came with Pokemon using healing moves to help along the process, including a Gardevoir she remembers using Life Dew on the affected area initially and being her nurse for a time instead of a Chansey when going for therapy, though it still took time for all it was worth. However, her godfather would send her a Pokemon Egg months after the initial incident for her to care for after her parents reported her being depressed. They were not happy with the fact it was an Onix egg that would hatch into a rather large Pokemon, but her having a Pokemon to look after her and her to look after in turn….well, that seemed to be a needed lesson in responsibility after the adults talked it out behind closed doors. She, for her part, kept the egg with her through the tough time and even had it nestled in her bed in a nest of blankets nearby to her too.
When her Onix eventually hatched, though, the day of was its own flavor of hectic. Her dad was in the middle of a work call, her mom was finishing a work call while getting lunch ready, and she called out for them when her egg began to shake and was about to hatch. Were it not for her mother arriving in time to grab the back of her father’s shirt, he’d have dived out the window with the egg aiming for some bushes before he could remember they were still on the
second floor of the house. So her mother’s Porygon-Z would in turn grab the egg and fly out of the window and into the rather large backyard of the estate. She, for her part, despite being in recovery, would manage to be carried by her father just in time to meet her new Pokemon as light surged from the egg and a large and new baby Onix roared to life. Having taken time to prepare a name beforehand, however, she simply hobbled over with her father’s help and a crutch to tell him his name and then hug him at her own insistence since it was ‘just a short distance’ at the time. For his part, the Onix looked at her curiously, then at the Porgyon-Z, then at the parents and whatever was around it, and then gently leaned down curiously so she could hug its head with her warm little body (by comparison that is). Lina’s mother then emerged with her little brother to see it as well….and also took pictures on her Rotom Phone and maybe cried a little at the sight. Just a little bit. Pinky promise.
At the age of twelve, she was in Johto for a festival with her paternal grandmother, dressed in traditional garb and walking about a festival when she spied something peculiar from the trees. A silhouette of blues, and a pair of white eyes staring directly at her, which stayed there long enough for her to walk over, stare back at it for some minutes that felt like more than a few minutes, and gently, cautiously, walk over to put a hand on its snout as it let her do so before nuzzling her left hand. All just for her grandmother to walk over calling her name, before the beast cried aloud and ran off into the woods once more. Her grandmother went pale for a moment, it drew some attention, and later she learned the name of the Pokemon was ‘Suicune’ and that her encounter was being murmured about as ‘very fortunate’ and ‘a blessing’ in its own right. It was also an experience she’d call ‘magical’ in her own words.
Yet with all of this being said, life wasn’t simply seeing Pokemon. It was getting education at her parents’ dual insistence, running into other kids her age as well as ending up with extra tutors after much of the material for kids ‘her age’ felt boring and simplistic, and sometimes her dad being in Castelia for work for a number of days that felt longer than that. It was her mom lessening her own online job’s workload to juggle her and her brother, as they all seemed busy enough at times as it was. It was growing older and learning more, even coming to her reading and helping legitimately critique and proofread her Aunt Lydia’s thesis paper when said Aunt Lydia returned to finish her education and schooling. It was the pain of hormones and becoming a teenager, and feeling distanced from a good number of her peers by wealth, distanced from other wealthy children by her personality, and finding comfort in keeping herself fit, exploring with her Onix, going by the Museum/Gym in Nacrene City to read and talk to the Gym Leader there, finding her own fashions and sense of taste and some kids to at least hang out with, and so forth.
It was, to put it simply, life as it was and as it came to her and her family.
Then a year and a half ago, her father would move their family to a new family estate purchased, prepared, and made for them to arrive in the city of Wailport, Eidda Region. A move that came with some sadness in leaving the familiar, and yet fresh air and enough distance from Byjerfal itself that her father could easily work and come home more often. A warm, safe, comfortable but not too small place to live. A new region. A new home. For Lina, it made something click in her mind as she was browsing the net one late night, and her datapad would ping with-....eh? An ad for the Eidda Professor hiring trainers to catalogue things for her? Turns out her desire to become a trainer, a new desire rising inside of her since the move and something ‘clicked’ in her mind, was ripe for the taking. Explore her new homeland? Start her own course on things?
Sooner than later, she’d submitted an application before she went to sleep that late night, and that next day she told her parents what she’d done. Then came the brief silence, the stares, the support, then all of the last-second family messaging and….sooner than later she had expedited-shipping travel supplies as gifts from immediate relatives coming in. Only some of it she could bring along at the start, however, so the rest got stashed away for maybe a later time and date (a travel tent, a blow up mattress or two, portable wifi spot, a kimono, etc, not stuff like Pokeballs and Potions due to her getting that much of a word in on the matter).
By the time it all got whittled down to the supplies she could feasibly carry without Jorm doing all the lifting, then, and she had one well-made backpack for the road. Now all that was left was to get a lift to Byjerfal….eh? A plane? Nah, a boat was more preferable.
Quirks/Talents/Aspirations/Other: Lina is someone who has notable talents in the intellectual sense, having gone beyond stuff ‘her age’ and being on par with adults twice her age writing thesis papers for university in terms of intellectual and educational understanding in a general sense. It is something that her appearance doesn’t belie, and even her family’s wealth can only be used as an excuse for that to some extent. Not that she normally looks like she comes from a rich family either for that matter, which is in part by design on purpose on her end as well. She may seem bored, but usually that’s because she is looking for more interesting material for her reading, whether it be educational or simply for purposes of entertainment. Doesn’t mean she doesn’t like some things her age either, far from it, but it all certainly makes her stand out as an oddity compared to most peers her age potentially.
She is also someone who often keeps fit, something stemming from prior physical therapy and finding it to be ‘relaxing and stress relieving’ to her mind and body in her own words. She isn’t a fitness nut, as some might say, but she does her usual exercises each morning like clockwork at the very least. It's a matter of good habit or perhaps good teaching as well, though in the end she also doesn’t go for the usual ‘stupid fitness fads’ as she will also bluntly state when/if asked about the matter of exercise.
Her mind is a curious one, something bent on understanding and grasping something as best as she can but not being so forceful as to get too obsessed. Analyzing data, reading a book and pondering its meanings for herself, exploring a strange place out of the way because it sparks her own interest in it for one reason or another, she is the sort who would find herself seeking out such understanding. For what reason? She doesn’t often say, if at all, the reasons behind it. But it certainly makes her all the more quirky in a sense perhaps. One day she will prep an idea on the fly when going somewhere, the next she’ll be reading up on something else.
She is also generally good at basic cooking and navigating of all things.
She is also no too piucky on food, save that overly bitter things get the 'ick' reaction out of her in a way few things do. She is also rather a fan of earthy, spicy, and sweet or sour foods overall, with lolipops being a personal favorite candy she only goes to if she's really deep in thought about something rather specifically. In that case....cherry or strawberry flavors are her favorites.
Favorite Kind of Pokémon: No real theme in terms of typing, more feeling out what Pokemon ‘vibe’ (for lack of a better word) with her best out there in one way or another. What stories of theirs, peculiarities, quirks, and so forth best speak to her. Could be some bog-standard looking one that has a good attitude, or it could be some lonely pokemon on a mountain peak whom she can relate to, or a mystical feeling moment where she bonds with another one out there that she runs into and finds its charming and ancient presence to be something she wants by her side for reason she doesn’t yet understand in full. A bit all over the place potentially, though there is one thing of note…
…her desire for a certain Rock/Bug Pokemon at the start, something she’s researched in the days before coming to the lab, is certainly just as peculiar as herself perhaps.
