This Roleplay is set in a fictitious universe (2221), where five years ago humanity abandoned Earth and her colonies on Mars and throughout local space due to an impending threat. In 2196 for some unknown reason we were invaded by an unknown species, they destroyed Outreach Station, pride of the Fleeter people. With a cold war brewing between the Martian Unity and the Earth Governments of Nagasaki Conglomerate and Roslin Federation the attack was seen as a ploy, an attempt to divert forces away from protecting their capitals. This crisis became known as the Three Day War.

The alien force, named the Devastators didn't respond to negotiation, communication or feigned intimidation. They continued to push themselves further and further in from the rim of the solar system inwards, taking out Fleeter convoys, mining operations and stations. The Conglomerate and Federation still refused to move from their standoff positions above Earth, seeking to only protect themselves. The Martian Generals felt they couldn't afford to simply rely on news images and scrambled reports anymore. They sent a fleet to assist the Fleeters to defend Ceres station with whatever Fleeter ships decided to stick around to defend what was the most resource rich area of the solar system. Only one ship managed to return to Mars from the confrontation, barely beating the Devastator fleets arrival. Mars was the point of an epic battle, the Martian Unity outnumbered the Devastators four to one and still the Devastators managed to cut through the Martian ships without much effort.

The Martian Defences failing, there wasn't much hope. Until Admiral Roland Constantine, an Admiral from the Roslin Federation convinced Federation and Conglomerate forces to abandon their petty standoff above Earth and move to Mars to help defend their sister planet, the combined forces of humanity stood together and managed to take out the enemy force, however the price was high. An uneasy coalition was formed, the United Earth Council out of the Federation, Conglomerate and Unity. With the remnants of the Fleeters electing to remain independent. This was twenty five years ago.

Times changed, rapidly. Projects sprout up all over, and when another Devastator fleet was detected building far from our solar system the Genesis Project seemed like the most viable hope, a project to build Arks to evacuate Earth. 12 Arks in total, 15,000 waking personnel on each with 500,000 people in cryostasis. At first the Arks purpose was secret, many people believing that the massive ships being constructed were going to be battleships instead. The best and the best was decided for the crew, healthy individuals picked to move into cryostasis. The Council expected mass hysteria when the purpose of the Arks was made public, however while there was some panic and rioiting on the most part people accepted their fate.

The Arks launched in 2216 when the Devastators returned, twenty years after the Three Day War. Since then our ark, the Vitae has spent a quiet five years travelling from one unhospitable system to another...

Through these years tensions have grown: The Fleeters are struggling to find their sense of identity without a fleet, Martians without Mars, Federation and Conglomerate without Earth. The 12,000 civillians struggling under the concept of Military Rule rather than a democratic society. Everyone fighting the sense of hopelessness of spending five years, with no sign of a habitable rock for them to set up home.

Factions

Martian Unity

The Martian Unity was formed seventy five years after Madeline Ulrop first set foot on Mars, in 2098. The colony was first established in 2038, however during the Third World War thirty years later the colony had grown considerably and continued to do so as people sought to flee the war.

The Confederacy was caught in a three way war against both the United States of the Americas and the United Korean state, conditions deteriorated so when the newly formed Roslin Federation took over after the Nuclear Fall of '78 the Martians had had enough causing them to revolt. Gaining their independence in 2090.

Later, becoming a rapidly progressing Military Nation. Up to the Three Day War the Martian Unity was known for it's military prowess and more specifically it's special ops, perfecting cloaking tech years ahead of everyone else.

Roslin Federation

The Roslin Federation was formed out of the Americas during the Third World War in 2068. Originally just called the United States during the days prior to the war, the president at the time Ethan Roslin felt that renaming themselves would be beneficial. This was considering the connotations of The United States, especially with that prior to the war and during the war, other countries joined them.

In a bizarre twist of fate during the Third World War, between the Roslin Federation, European Confederacy, and United Korean State, the Federation would inadvertently create the Nagasaki Conglomerate, who after the Third World War would become their biggest rival.

Nagasaki Conglomerate

The Nagasaki Conglomerate is centered in Japan and is a union of Asian Countries with the addition of New Zealand and Australia. Formed during the waning days of the Third World War the Nagasaki Conglomerate was formed as a bid to bring about peace after the Roslin Federation dragged Japan into the war against the United Korean State. It became a powerhouse and was at the forefront of technological achievements. More significantly was that until the Three Day War occurred the Roslin Federation and Nagasaki Conglomerate were in a cold war, that was about to go hot.

Fleeters

The Fleeters were a union of space-faring humans living in the Sol System. Formed from the remnants of the Armani corporation who many of their original number worked for, before the company went bankrupt, these people spent almost all their days living in space and rarely set their feet on solid ground. While they later went on to develop a central meeting place in Outreach Station they held no central government unlike that of the Roslin Federation, Martian Unity or Nagasaki Conglomerate.

Their people quickly gained notoriety for being thrill seekers and explorers. Most of their people and outposts were destroyed in the Three Day War, but despite this they were no less important. Their expertise were vastly depended on for the mining of resources to build the Arks as well as protection from pirates.

United Earth Council

The United Earth Council was formed after the events of the Three Day War. When the Roslin Federation, Nagasaki Conglomerate and Martian Unity all formed together to fight a common threat. The Fleeters elected to remain independent from this Government body, needing the time to rebuild what they had lost.

European Confederacy

The European Confederacy was a powerhouse in global politics until the Nuclear Fall in 2078 during the end of the Third World War. Before that the European Confederacy had been the union of all of the countries on the European Continent.

Genesis Arks

The Genesis Arks were said to be designed and built specifically for the Genesis Project, however the first design of an Ark is older than the project itself, with the initial designs being for a new form of deep space colony ship. These ships were built with the best technology humanity had to offer, to take humanity to a better future. For more information on the history and background of the Arks please see the respective page. All these Arks were constructed at a massive shipyard in Africa.

1. Can I be a scientist? Yes. Yes you can.
2. How will this work? We'll be working towards survival, as I our mighty GM, will throw things your way. These could be big events that effect everyone (Such as a spaceship showing up and shooting at us), or small events that only effect a few people (Such as a murderer on board, or a deadly virus).
3. What year is it? 2221.
4. How long has it been since WWIII? 137 Years.
5. How old is the Vitae? She's virtually brand new, though her construction took nearly ten years.
6. Will there be civilians on the ship? Yes, with offduty personnel, scientists there will also be a substantial civilian population but they will also perform a vital role, on production of goods to staffing recreational facilities.
7. Can my family come? All crew will have had the opportunity to file for up to two family members to come aboard in stasis. This is to keep family lines apart, make sure there is no unemployment and is meant as a kindness. They must also be a viable choice for the program e.g. young/healthy and have skills necessary to build humanities future.

This is a formal letter of recommendation for the inclusion of Lieutenant Commander Elijah Ross in the Genesis Project. His skill at the helm of any ship cannot be overstated. He is an experienced commander of men that has proven himself to be unwavering in his bravery, even in the face of impossible odds. Those who have served with the man can attest to his effectiveness as a leader and strength of character. He has shown the ability to instill loyalty and discipline in his crew through a strong, commanding presence intermixed with compassion and understanding.

The Lieutenant Commander served humanity faithfully during both the Battle of Ceres and the Battle of Mars. At Ceres, the Lieutenant Commander elected to remain behind with with the Fleeters longer than the rest of the Unity relief fleet. His cruiser was the last to evacuate with the escaping personnel transports, managing to escape the Devastators by the skin of their teeth. Ross's risk was calculated, however- he knew that his ship could survive because he trusted in his own skill at the helm.

In the Battle of Mars, Elijah Ross and his crew held the line alongside the rest of the Martian fleet. He positioned himself aggressively to defend the orbital defense satellites from encroaching alien vessels for as long as his ship was able. Many crucial shots were fired off by the satellites because of Ross's bravery and intelligent maneuvering. Most impressive, however, was the fact that Ross did not sacrifice himself, his ship or any of his crewmen during this operation- Ross pulled back just in time to allow himself to continue to stay in the fight.

It is due to these many shining qualities that the office of Rear Admiral Holder formally requests that the Lieutenant Commander is brought on to work with your project. We need men like him if we want to survive this.

With all due respect Doctor Chekhov, I don't know what the hell you're thinking by bringing this guy in, but it's a mistake. I mean, you've seen the file, haven't you? I know he's supposed to be some kind of Martian war hero and all, but...for Christ's sake. Just look at this.

His lungs are practically falling apart! He has to lug around a respirator unit everywhere he goes because he can barely breathe on his own. Maybe that would be fine on it's own, but that leg of his is barely functioning as it is and he refuses to get it amputated for a prosthetic. We don't have a lot of room on these ships. Is there really nobody else out there who can take this guy's place? Yeah, I get it. Martian Command has a huge boner for the guy. And his service was admirable. But can we really afford to be spending valuable medicine and tech just to keep him from keeling over on us?

Do you know how much trouble I'd get into if I told them no? This E-Mail simply existing might be enough to get the two of us fired. No, he's going on-board the Vitae. The arrangements have already been made and I'm supposed to contact him in the morning.

Just make sure we have those prototypes on hand when he gets here in a week, alright? He's going to need that leg brace and the respirator pack if he wants to survive out in space.

Transcript of Unaired MPTV News Interview

Mars Planetary Television News logo flashes across the screen as the program begins. Commander Ross is shown sitting in his study on the right, while the interviewer, Dana Kelly, sits at her desk in the studio to the left. Ross is in full dress uniform.

Kelly smiles at the camera.

KELLY: Welcome back, everyone. I'd like to introduce you all to MPTV News's latest guest, Commander Elijah Ross of the Mars Unity Navy! How're you doing today, Commander?

ROSS: Please, Miss Kelly, call me Elijah. I'm doing great today, thanks for asking.

KELLY: Elijah it is, then! For our audience at home- why don't you tell us a little about yourself, Elijah?

ROSS: Of course. Well, as has been said already, my name is Elijah Ross and I am a Commander in the Unity Navy. I was born and raised in Arcadia. My father was an ice miner and my mother was a botanist in our local hydroponics garden. Since my father was away on expeditions most of the time, I spent my days learning to cultivate plants in mineral solutions. I'm sure we all know what that's like.

Ross and Kelly share a laugh.

KELLY: And when did you decide you wanted to make a career in the Navy, Elijah?

ROSS: Oh, my. I think I was about nineteen or so at the time when it really hit me. Met the desk sergeant that changed my life forever when he really helped...put my life into perspective. The sergeant couldn't go off world anymore, ya see. He lost his legs in combat so they put him behind a desk. I saw that and decided right then and there that I didn't want to waste my life staying in one place.

KELLY: W-what do you mean?

Kelly appears to be nervous.

ROSS: Y'know, most people'll tell ya they went military because they wanted to serve their planet, or help people. Most of the time that's just hogwash.

Ross chuckles. Kelly looks confused

KELLY: I'm...sorry, sir, hogwash?

ROSS: Ahh, my apologies. It means nonsense. Real old school slang from back when the United States was still around. What I mean is, a lot of the time, kids like me picked that job because we just wanted to get away. You spend your whole life in one place for so long that you start to get anxious to move. TO go somewhere. Cheapest way to travel is the Navy. Nineteen year old me would laugh at ya or call you crazy if you told him where he'd end up as an old man.

KELLY: Hell of a time to stick with it just to travel, don't you think? With war on the horizon and all that?

ROSS: Ahh, yeah. Truth be told I wasn't paying too much attention to the news in those days. I heard about the Cold War sometimes, but the reality of it didn't really hit me until we started doing the orbital bombardment drills at the academy. It was scary, I won't lie to ya.

KELLY: But that didn't stop you, did it?

ROSS: Almost did. But...well. I was about as stubborn then as I am now. Wasn't going to let some interplanetary war stop me from seeing the stars.

KELLY: And...where were you when the Devastators first attacked?

ROSS: The mess hall in the super carrier I was station on at the time, the Relentless. It was lunchtime. They were serving meat and potatoes again. The klaxons went off, red lights started flashing. The droning voice over the intercom told us that the Citadel had come under attack by unknown forces. Everyone I knew that it was pirates. The return of the Scourge, they called it. I wish.

KELLY: Wow. And you were part of the first task force the Unity sent to Ceres, correct?

ROSS: I was. I was commanding a Destroyer at the time, the Benevolence. At the time we still didn't know they were aliens, just an unidentified fleet that had torn it's way across the system and was making for Ceres. Fleeters had asked everyone for help. Only Mars answered. I didn't understand what we were facing until I saw their ships with my own two eyes. They were...inhuman. Never seen anything like it.

KELLY: What was it like fighting them?

Ross is silent for several seconds, his expression shifting into a hardened grimace.

ROSS: Hell.

Slender and beautiful, if in a careless way, Dr. Wolfe is most often found in lab coats or exercise clothes, depending on the time of day.

Profession:

Dr. Wolfe is a biologist and organic chemist whose specialization is the forced adaption of plant and animal life to otherwise hostile environments. Much of this is built on the pioneering work of her father, Dr. David Wolfe, to create more sustainable living conditions on Mars.

Nationality: Martian

Strengths and Weaknesses:

Naomi Wolfe’s greatest strength is her intellect. She is a brilliant scientist, highly rational and practical. In this vein, she is observant and detail-oriented but has a more difficult time with big-picture ideas and any concept that cannot be scientifically proven. This is not the person with which to talk about dreams or intuition. Naomi can read some 900 words per minute with good comprehension and has a good memory for facts and figures.

Thanks to the Martian required military service, Naomi is physically fit and has some basic combat and defensive abilities. Given a crisis, she will act first and talk later, a fact that saved her life a several times on active duty.

Naomi has a deeply ingrained need to belong but is lacking in interpersonal skills. Even when well-meaning, the scientist comes off as blunt or insensitive and can be very difficult to work with because of this character flaw. Conversely, this has led to her seemingly reserved nature. Rather than attempting to belong and being rebuffed for her lack of people skills, Naomi keeps mainly to herself. She’d be terribly lonely if she didn’t push herself to work such long hours.

Personal Effects: Clothing, a tablet, the journals recording the scientific research of both herself and her father, a portable microscope that more often than not is simply a paperweight on her desk, abandoned in favor of the better ones found in the Vitae’s labs, and a few dog-eared books. A couple of these are scientific texts annotated with Naomi’s tiny script, but most are old romances, such as Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.

Bio:

As the connection finally clears, an image of an old man’s bulbous nose takes up much of the screen, wobbling as he mumbles about Martian equipment and long-distance calls at all hours of the day and night. He fiddles with a few more buttons and wires then leans back, as if just now noticing the business-like face staring at him.

“Ah, about time, isn’t it?” He starts in his brusque way, sitting down in front of the computer so that more of the room behind him can be seen. It’s a lab, as spotless as the man is disorderly, filled with high-tech equipment of various descriptions and one other scientist, a young woman peering into a beaker, her dark hair pulled roughly back except for a few escaping strands.

“Well, get on with it!” the man scolds, bringing his correspondent’s attention immediately back to him. “What have you come to beg for this time?”

The man on the other side of the screen is a Martian official, used to respect and more than a little put off by the scientist’s lack of decorum, but he straightens his jacket and manages to speak clearly enough.

“Dr. David Wolfe, as my colleagues have no doubt told you, the United Earth Council has—“

“And I've told your colleagues,” David Wolfe interrupted, “That an old man’s got no place on that tub you're chucking into space! To think—“

“You’re right! You are too old for the Genesis Program. It is your daughter we want,” The officer shouts over him, his politeness forgotten in aggravation. He looks down at the file in his hands and reads from it: “Protege of the great David Wolf, extremely promising research in her own right, not to mention honorable conduct during mandatory military service, which is more than we can say about you, sir.”

The old man harrumphs in annoyance, as the woman behind him looks up, the first time she’s shown any interest at all in her father’s correspondence. “I’ll do it, of course,” she says calmly, placing the glass down and stepping towards the computer.

“Well how am I going to get a new one trained up now?” the old man grumbles.

“You won’t need to if you’ve been torn apart by Devastators.”

The old man considers this with perverse satisfaction for a moment, then gives a rough nod. “Well if you’re in such a hurry to leave your old man to the aliens, you’d best get to it.”

Six months later, Dr. Naomi Wolfe departs Mars on a short-range space shuttle and is packed aboard the Vitae.

So, to further his hopes for the future, this rather unpleasant man made himself teacher to a young girl, starting her on math and science much earlier than any child normally would have, while other (in his mind, lesser) subjects were delegated to unhappy lab assistants and Naomi's mother. Soon she was not only David Wolfe's student, but also his assistant and eventually, valued colleague. Family friends say he was know to call Naomi his greatest scientific experiment.

Naomi's unconventional education and her natural inclination to the work let her advance quickly beyond her years. At the age of twenty-four when Naomi was contacted about the Genesis Project in her father's lab, she was already a doctor twice over and was working on her own line of research in the field of xenobiology. So her skills are those of a brilliant scientist and researcher, and she has all of her father's prodigious work to build off of.

Since the launch of the Vitae, five years ago now, Naomi Wolf has largely kept herself above the despair of the so far fruitless search by keeping her mind on the details, the smaller problems immediately before her: evolving existing edible plants and animals to create sustainable food for either a very long space voyage or for a new home planet that might not have a sustainable food source fit for humans, controlling an eliminating the occasional outbreak of disease, and her pet project, experimenting with the Tardigrade genome to alter other organisms’ survivability in the vacuum of space.

Bio:
Born in 2176 to parents of Mexican descent, Matt was always a hyperactive child who enjoyed the outdoors and venturing into the wilds of Mars. His father was in the military, serving as a Lieutenant in the Martian Unity Navy and his mother worked as a doctor, they both loved Mike very much as he was the only son they had been able to conceive and believed he was destined to do great things. Matt’s father, 1st Lieutenant Manuel Lopez was strict at times, applying the military doctrine of the MU into the life of Matt and believing it necessary, for there would come a time in which Matt would be one of the many men in this new and young State who would have to fight for their planet, their people, themselves when danger was amidst. Matt’s mother, Rosa Lopez, was much more compassionate, she wanted Matt to grow into a man of his own and make his own decisions based on his free will. Whether he joined the military or not was no boggle to her, she wanted him to be the best he could be at anything he had chosen to be. Matt carried both his parents teaching at heart and in the end, after finishing high school, he enrolled in the Martian Military Education Program. Not because the influence of either parent, but because he wanted to belong to something greater, he felt he owed to his planet to serve it and to fight for it. He had that conviction.

Matt trained and studied for years to become part of something greater, training physically and mentally to become a soldier through a through but also continued to believe in the words of his mother and the word of the lord himself. He didn’t openly showed his faith, but deep within it was always a part of who he was. He became a commendable soldier, joining the Naval Special Operations Division and passing training, becoming a sergeant at the age of 20 and showing prowess in ground ops but most importantly in space flight and space operations. He had taken part in covert operations during the cold war and had proven he had the conviction to fight for his planet. He was still young and fresh from training but was ready to fight in any given danger to the Unity.

In 2196, when tensions were running high between the MU and the other powers, the Attack on the Fleeters outpost brought fear but determination to Matt. He believed that whoever had been the ones behind the attack, he had to be ready to fight. And he prepared himself for it, waiting and waiting for the planet to rally on the warpath against the alien enemy known as the Devastators. The planet kept on building the defenses for the incoming Invasion. The destruction of the Ceres station made it clear the Martian Unity was next on the Devastators campaign. Matt and his squad were dispatch to orbit under Commander William Locke, where they took part in the engagement against the Devastator fleet. Mike and his comrades took to their fighters and off to the battle in space, Mike and his squadron as well as others took on waves of Devastator fighters and also took part in attacks against Devastator cruisers and frigates. The battle took a toll on Mike as he heard over the comms the screaming agony of those in the destroyed ships being torn apart by Devastator weaponry. Mike continued with his squadron in battle the Devastators and they destroyed dozens of fighters, however, the squadrons began losing men quickly as the battle turned against the Martians.

In a surprising move by their commander, the squadrons and several ships were commanded by Locke to use their cloaking technology to come at the Devastator from behind, flanking them, Locke’s forces began the assault on the Devastators rear. Matt had already lost many friends during the battle, and his own squadron leader was killed during the counter attack. He took the initiative with no hesitation and led his squadron to continue Locke’s attack. For a moment it seemed like all was lost, as the Devastators were tearing apart the Martian forces with little effort.

Then another fleet joined in the battle, led by Admiral Roland Constantine, the fleets merged together and were able to defeat the Devastators, but at the terrible price of many Martian lives lost. However, Matt had proved he was a dedicated soldier and leader and was promoted shortly after due to his leadership during the battle. After the Three Day War, the United Earth Council was formed and Matt like all other soldiers prepared for the inevitable second wave that would come. The special operations division continued to serve for the 20 years that followed, Matt promptly achieving the rank of First Lieutenant and meeting the women of his life, Crystal Miranda, a women of Asian descent whom he had known from back when he was a kid and she was an infant a renown Biologist. Still sure that Humanity could win, Matt continued his service to the Martian Unity and the UEC as a special ops soldier and took part of military operations meant to prepare humanity for the incoming fight. Eventually, with Crystal, the two conceived a child in the year 2208, naming him Julian. Matt became an arduous father and caretaker, and having learned of the incoming second invasion, one that Humanity would not be able to fend off, Mike was willing to do anything to make sure his wife and child survived. Enrolling in the Genesis Project the Lieutenant pledge that he would serve the as a member of the military force that would face off against the Devastators once they arrived in exchange for his wife and child to be part of the Ark, Crystal being a biologist she was welcomed aboard in the science team. Matt was willing to accept the possible outcomes, he either died in battle or he lived through it and Humanity defeated the Devastators and he could see his wife and child again. Eventually, in 2214, disaster struck for him when Crystal contracted Leukemia, a dangerous malignant strain that would eventually kill her.

Knowing her faith, Crystal made it so that Mike was the one who would be part of the Project, not her. Matt was not willing to let Crystal go like this, he was sure she could survive the Ark trip and take medication until she was cured, they could meet again, but Crystal was not willing to become a clear lost cause. She knew that the reality was that either they both died, Matt in battle and Crystal due to the cancer, or Matt survived to ensure the safety of Julian. Crystal made Matt swear he would protect Julian no matter what, and with crying eyes he did so, accepting the spot in the Ark as a member of the military force who would protect the Ark if the need arose, this granted him the promotion of Captain due to his experience and his service.

The day came that Crystal died, a mere month before the Devastators return, Matt buried her in the spot of their first date, near the New Horizon River. He would not be part of the fight, not yet, but he would make sure the future of mankind lived on. The day came in 2216 Matt’s Ark was launched, he could only watch as his home was ravaged and his fellow brothers in arms fought a losing battle, but at the very least they assured the survival of the human race. Now it's 2221, under the leadership of the same man he fought under in the Three Day War, Matt is now captain in the Vitae’s military garrison and he is determined to find a new home for his son, and not let down the memory of the love of his life.

Character Age: Appears to be in his mid twenties, in actuality he has been active for just over five years, being activated shortly after the Vitae was launched.

Appearance: Michael stands 6 feet exactly, his frame is lean. He appears externally human with no blemishes or scars. His medium brown hair is not really hair, it does not grow, he also can't grow facial hair. His skin is a synthetic fiber that feels like real skin but is almost plastic in its composition. His eyes are a deep blue. He has not changed appearance wise in the last five years.

Profession: Originally designed to work with the scientists on the Vitae for whatever task they require, he has since earned a position as a respected member of the science team.

Nationality: Synthetic android

Strengths:

• He has a near encyclopedic knowledge of recorded human history. He can recall any point if asked to. Also will constantly add to this knowledge over the Vitae's journey, he has done just this over the last five years.
• He also possesses a deep knowledge of many different types of sciences, comparable to a supercomputer.
• Michael is stronger, faster and better coordinated than a human being. But his strength is not superhuman by any means. It's comparable to modern, lesser advanced robots. He's reluctant to show these strengths.
• He was given a fully functional, detailed personality. Designed to be as human-like as possible in this aspect. He can easily blend in and appear fully human. Few aboard the Vitae know of his true nature.
• He knows how to make basic repairs to himself and has a tool kit within his quarters. If he were to suffer more extreme injuries then he would need assistance from others.
• Michael does not need to eat, drink, sleep or breath. He can also survive in an oxygen-less environment such as outer space.
• He is fully capable of learning and adapting, potentially able to overcome some of the faults in his programming.

Weaknesses:

• Michael was programmed to never harm another human being, even if he is being attacked. Violence against humans is something that would never occur in his mind.
• He freely thinks but does not have free will, whatever his creators ask he will do. As long as what is asked of him is within his programming.
• His personality is very naive, he was given emotions but does not really understand what its like to be human. He'll often ask 'odd' questions about human nature and has an almost child-like curiosity about life. Even in the years that have passed during his time on the Vitae he still has much to learn in this regard.
• He does not feel empathy, if told something that would cause an emotional response in a human he will often stare blankly and appear unaffected, not sure how to react. Michael is able to feel severe emotions that can cause him to cry, but these are brought on by himself.
• Michael does not bleed, this would give away to someone that doesn't already know that he is not a real human. Internally he is filled with complex machinery, externally he appears fully human.
• His body is quite fragile, his skeleton is sturdy but many of his internal mechanisms are vulnerable. His central processor is located in his head, if that is damaged enough then he will shut down.
• His programming is susceptible to modifications, if someone wanted to modify him for whatever reason then they could and he would be forced to adjust to it. In the five years that have passed no modifications have been made to his programming.
• If his serial number (MHSA276012) is read out loud enough for him to hear then he will shut down on the spot.

Personal Effects: Michael does not have many personal possessions, in his room he only has a small wardrobe of clothes and his repair kit.

Bio: Michael was constructed by the a small team of scientists, the concept for the creation of a humanoid synthetic only something seen in science fiction until then. Robotics and artificial intelligence are both something the human race is familiar with, but Michael is something completely different. If God made humans in his image, then Michael was made in his own creator's image as well.

His creation was a hotly debated subject amongst the few that actually knew of the idea, some frowned upon it, others saw it as a necessity. If we were gathering the greatest of our species, then why not simply create one that would be destined for greatness? They had the technology, no one just had ever given serious thought to creating a truly synthetic man.

The cost of his creation was a high one, but money was not an issue when the survival of the human race was at stake. It took some time to build him, they started from scratch and spent every dime required to make him perfect. It was not rushed, every single moment of it was monitored closely to ensure perfection. They could not afford any failures with such a delicate operation.

Early on in the android's creation some within the team voiced a concern to limit their machine man, they ultimately decided to treat him the same as their artificial intelligence. Michael was given the ability to freely think but not freely act, though his programming left opportunities for modifications. He would answer wholly to those that made him, do whatever was asked without hesitation. After months of focus and dedication the synthetic man was completed. The final touch was to give him a name, Micheal, there was a certain irony in bestowing a biblical name upon the android but it was oddly fitting.

On the Vitae

The android was moved onto the Vitae, weeks before its launch. Sealed away in a secured contained the robotic man was activated upon launch. With some of his creators aboard the vessel, his true existence was a kept secret among a select few important individuals. A pinnacle of human advancement in the field of robotics, it was only fitting that he would find himself sent away with humanity's chosen survivors. His first weeks aboard the ship were guided by one of his leading creators, Dr. Ethan Phillips, who would become a mentor to the 'naive' android.

Michael had a place among the science team as he showcased his ingenuity in multiple fields. To everyone that was unaware of his true nature he was just a young scientific phenom, curious and non-confrontational. As the years passed in their journey the android has become an important voice in the science department, living up the expectations that had been placed on him before his activation. He has also gone on a few missions that have taken him off the ship, his skill set enabling him to assist in matters beyond just scientific ones. His curiosity has not been satisfied, in his free time often exploring corners of the massive vessel, interacting with different people from different backgrounds. This is all while his true nature has been successfully kept a secret to the masses aboard the Vitae.

He has had thoughts of the Vitae's struggles at finding a new home for humanity, though very few have been pessimistic ones. His programmed personality is not one that dwells on sadness or despair, rather he deals with such troubles rationally. The galaxy is a massive place, Earth like worlds suitable for humanity to colonize and live upon are a rarity. With the advanced technologies at their disposal he remains utterly hopeful that they will find a new Earth, where humanity can prosper.

Relationships:

• Dr. Ethan Phillips - The most important person behind Michael's creation, Dr. Phillips has taken a role akin to a father figure for the curious android. He's Michael's closest confident, and someone the machine man truly cares for.
• The two have a friendly relationship due to being work colleagues.

Strengths: Sullivan experience with electronics and space craft can be traced back to his family trade as they had been working as engineers during the earlier days of the Mars expansion. His father acting as cheif technician during the Three Days War. He continued his education and formal training conducted at the Hawkings Institute on Eden Dome 3, Saggitarius Plateau, Mars. His technical capability of FTL systems and space craft maintenance are considered top marks, with additional experience in fabricateering, manufacture, space walking, robotics, and mechanical engineering. He has been relied upon time and again to not only repair systems, but also further optimize systems.

He has shown to be a capable leader and is respected by his team. Additionally he has been recognized as a much needed morale officer, often times organizing and scheduling crew events designed to showcase movies or strengthen working relationship. His artistic capabilities have also been considered to add a breath of color and fresh air to the VITAE, a welcomed distraction from the growing tension.

Flaws: Sullivan has a very stubborn and superior attitude when it comes to his duties. He will frequently rail against his superiors when it comes to matters of maintaining the ship and its systems and will often resolve issues his own way. Normally this results in a problem solved, but as expected on occasion he is wrong, most commonly for not knowing all the specifics that a superior might have known.

Lately his behavior has been erratic and agressive. While Sullivan is considered social by other crew members, his increased consumption of alcohol has been noticed. While he has never reported for duty under the influence, he has been on record for causing eight public disturbances and has been reprimanded on two accounts for instigating two brawls and one case of assault, all within the last ten months. Evaluations for this behavior has been linked to depression and survivors guilt. The medication he has been taking for these symptoms no longer effects him the way it should, and the VITAE medical staff has not yet found an effective cocktail for him. He is currently to attend mandatory weekly psychiatric sessions and attend group therapy sessions.

Personal Effects: Sullivan keeps a rather extensive collection of old world animations in old fashion plastic cassete boxes as well as posters and memorabilia of the characters starring in that media. He also keeps a number of sketching, painting, and inking supplies with various incomplete works filling a sizeable corner of his quarters. Other items include the suitcases that belongs to his living descendants which includes a oversized teddy bear and soccer bag with gear. He also has a hidden stash of alcohol which is common knowledge to pretty much everyone.

Personal History: Keith Sullivan was born on Mars to a family of primarily Irish decent whom established private engineering contracts during the early days of Mar's habitation and terraforming. The Sullivan family had maintained a tradition of military service and engine manufacture and repair through the highlight years of the Martian Unity and Keith followed in his family's footsteps, even volunteering in scrap salvage with other youth groups during the Three Years War. He attended the Hawkins University at Eden to obtain degrees in mechanical engineering, advanced robotics, and Spacecraft Systems Specialization. Immediately afterwards he began his military service, working on the various ships and associating with Confederates, Nagasaki, and Fleeters throughout his career. He had barely been back to Mars since his recruitment into the Martian fleets.

Following the marriage of a Fleeter, named Rosita, Sullivan pushed to be removed from military vessels to more logistical and civilian space craft. Due to his admirable record, this task was approved and he actually had and raised his family aboard such vessels. It was because of this approval that probably saved his life. It was the first military vessels that were comissioned to defend against the Devastator Threat, and as the battles grew closer to Mars, unity civilian ships were reequiped for military use. Sullivan personally supervised these efforts and his superiors had him reinstated on the Damacles, a Heavy Cruiser a few weeks before the Devastator Fleet reached Mars. While the Damacles acted as secondary command ship during the battle, it had also seen action and was heavily damaged. He had obtained three commedations for bravery for saving numerous lives and possibly the ship by preventing the ships fusion reactor from detatonating after a direct hit. Following this act, his name was included as the lucky few who would crew a genesis ark as a Senior Engineer, to be working under the Cheif Engineer.

Despite constant attempts to do otherwise, the two family member limit was not over ridden to include his wife and their two children. His wife had chosen to be left behind beginning Sullivan's habit of anti-depressants and substance abuse. His open social nature however had led him to develop a number of positive connections which he had further nurtured, and had taken into artistic pursuits to express himself. This has lead him to become an unofficial morale officer of sorts on the VITAE whose planned events were a welcomed distraction for the crew and had given him projects to work on.

With the death of his Chief after a catastrophic coolant burst a year ago had also killed a few of Sullivan's crew, Sullivan had begun to fall back into bad habits but had taken to his new duties with equal comitment and efficiency. The growing malaise among the crew combined with a number of personal factors had caused Sullivan's depression and drinking to effect his psyche. This is having a cumulative effect on the rest of the crew whom had become more and more desperate for not only a new home, but anything to contend with the hopelessness of their travel through the endless void. Sullivan butts heads with the admiral and command staff on official buisness, but off the clock still has developed personal relationships with them, as they have something in common, the burden of command and loved ones lost. On a positive note; Sullivan had finally taken off his wedding ring perhaps in some small way, showing he is ready to move on.
