From Stardust, to Stardust: The Return

Yeah, I am still alive.

If it wasn’t obvious by that little intro bit, this is another one of my/Key’s freeform Sci-FI Fantasy NRP sandboxes, with the added twist that a once great civilization who had united the universe was destroyed by some unknown outside force. Beyond that I am going to run it pretty much the same way that Key and I have always run these - do what you want so long as it isn’t super-b0rken and play for the story, and your good. One notable exception is I will being try to clamp down on some of the things that I think contributed to the downfall of other NRPs, but that is a discussion I need to have with Key.

And of course, thanks to @keyguyperson for having pioneered the original concept back on MCF and having brought it to the Guild.

Edit: Now with Discord!

Question: FTL limits? It was a real problem previously when everyone could vring everything to every single fight instantly because FTL.

Again I prefer the hard no limits but my thoughts was a hybrid of the old-system and slower FTL. You can have instant FTL - if your using precursor gates or gates you built yourself, but otherwise, limits are imposed.

Recommended that we use Notebook.ai for organiational purposes. I've even created a universe for people to add their stuff to, if they so wish:

I'm not sure I have the time.

I mean, I did have to leave a nation RP recently, because of my killer work hours.

But at the same time, this verse is in dire need of communist catboys.

Choices choices...

What would these roleplays be without something vaguely anime and extremely communist.

You have to admit that all my nations up until now have been extremely communistic. All central leadership and everything for the cause.

But I recently came to grips with realism and realized that a nation that focuses primarily on economy and industry would have a far more robust system than a communistic one, because in a capitalistic nation, one has the freedom to do things, and the prospect of success to inspire them. Communism can't promote the same sort of creativity as capitalism, nor the same enthusiasm.

If I really want to make some examples, I can just point how Russia has the largest tank fleet in the world, but ultimately they were inferior to their enemies' because of a lack of innovation and consistent high quality. Meanwhile the capitalistic nation of the world practically owns the global market, because if America collapsed and disappeared, the global economy would crash spectacularly as well. I can say that because the global market crashed back during America's Great Depression, and we weren't as important then to the global scene as we are today. And not only did Capitalism #1 have such a hold on economy, we also have the infrustrature. Japan was a very centralized country with a single ruler, and they did manage to take out Pearl Harbor... and then we replaced our losses and then some, and overwhelmed them. Even if they traded American ships in a 1-2 ratio, with them taking out two ships to everyone one of theirs, we'd still be able to overwhelm them. We had the economy and industry to do so, once it switched over to war production.

I was making a simple joke, not trying to start a discussion about economic theory and the merits of communism as a economic system.

I'll fukken debate you mate. By the time I'm done you probably won't be a communist, but you will be far more likely to commit suicide out of sheer annoyance and boredom.

Anyhow, this time you're only getting anime. No communism now. Just good old FREEDOM and DEMOCRACY, with INTERNATIONAL MONETARY FUNDS, WORLD BANKS, a heaping helping of A E S T H E T I C S 美 的 エ ス テ テ ィ ッ ク, and GLOBALISM. And definitely nothing bad, at all, period. It's all good.

And LOSING MY FUCKING SHEET DAMMIT WHY DID I FORGET IT WAS ON MY CLIPBOARD.

Well I suppose I have to at least *try* to join now.

Probably going with an Earth colony that has outgrown it's humble beginnings. May or may not be caught up in a cold war with the home planet or other, fash-y colonials.

Basic and rough timeline I'm considering. During the early days of expansion, Earth scattered colony across the galactic arm using wormhole technology. Tended to be a one way trip, understandably. Earth was in a state of near-collapse. Think of it as a last hurrah for humanity, as they try to escape a cyberpunk hell of their own making.

The best of humanity was sent out, into the void, to preserve the species against what, at the time, seemed an inevitable end.

Some colonies failed, some didn't, and some went off the rails to an extreme. The third was the case with the colony that would become the Pan-Colonial Soviet. The colonists found themselves unprepared for the realities of an alien world. And there numbers were few. Eventually, certain....measures were taken. An underclass was created-humans modified with feline DNA. Better able to survive and thrive on that alien world. And made to do all the dangerous work as the human colonists lived in ever-increasing ease and luxury.

They really shouldn't have brought a database full of Earth's literary works with them. Discontent was inevitable among this new species of slaves-and for certain members of the depraved wealthy-pets-and the texts found within this database would find their way into the hands of these discontented slaves. Old texts with old names. Marx. Lenin. Mao. Castro. Guevara. You got the idea. It started as an insurgency. Then spiraled from there. By the time the revolution came in earnest, it happened quickly.

Within a few years, the colonial administration was overthrown, and as the USSR did before it, a communist power turned it's eyes to the stars once more.

It seemed only right, for the heirs to Earth's first spacefaring power-to it's first communist power-to follow in the footsteps of history. In terms of tech and specializations...I'm thinking they're big on cloning, genetic modification (within reasonable limits) and industry. Mmmm.

Dem five year plans.

Above. Two essential building blocks of communism. The stellar fleet and a catboy.

My theory is sound.

I'm probably joining with some theocratic empire based off space magic. I'm contemplating on making them pacifists or crusaders.

@duck55223Can we try making a Discord channel as soon as the planning is actually kicking into a high gear. It helps coordination for such games. It admittedly doesn't need to be too fancy because then it might suck away creativity and activity but otherwise I support Discord chats for NRPs. Nationgames are collective effort in worldbuilding thus frequent communication is advised.

I also recommend using that notebook.ai website. You can write up your race, government, notable characters, creatures, locations, etc.

You need to be registered for it to even view and most of us never used that site before so I wouldn't cross my fingers for many people trying it.
Granted, same can be said for Discord so who knows? Maybe in a year or two it would become a fad here.
