Energy Storm World-Building

This post will feature information about the world of Energy Storm. It's set in an Alternate Timeline/History of the real world, and currently the RP is set in the year of 2018.

Forrester Corporation = Billionaire Technology Company. Operates in several areas including weapons development, security systems, private technology research, microchip/tracking technology etc
They are a major company within the RP, and in the world of Energy Storm this company is one of the top ten riches companies in existence.
The Current CEO of the Forrester Corporation is Nathan Forrester, a multi billionaire who is well known around America & the rest of the world as a very succesful technological business CEO. He's got a reputation for being a very greedy man & despite his company doing very well pays their workers/employee's the bare minimum. He's also been featured in headlines over the years for a multitude of different scandals for questionable business practices but thanks to his wealth has managed to elude any form of serious punishment.
===Nathan's brother DAVID FORRESTER, is the current President of the United States. He's a member of the Republican Party, & the Forrester Administration is Republican. David was elected President right after Barack Obama's term ended within the RP. He's very popular among the wealthy & upper class in America. His victory & subsequent acquisition of the presidential seat was seen as detrimental to the middle & lower class of America. The Majority of his policies are geared towards helping further enrich those who are already wealthy & further increase the divide between the economic class's in the United States. He's an outspoken racist & is known to discriminate against ethnic minorities, LGBT & other marginalized groups. Similar to Trump in the real world, David Forrester has no political history prior to becoming the President. He is considered to be a very controversial individual and his ties to corporate America have been met with disdain by several people who feel he is not able to relate & represent a good portion of American Citizens who are not born into & an accustomed to an affluent lifestyle like him & his family.

Emergency Altered Act - The Forrester Administration under the leadership & guidance of David Forrester has passed a set of laws using emergency powers to get a tighter grip on the Altered human situation. These laws are being passed in conjunction/combination with the mandatory blood tests to determine which American Citizens are Altered Humans. President David Forrester has stated that the Emergency Altered Act laws are temporary but will be enforced for the forseeable future with a pre-determined period of 3-6 months at minimum.
--All Altered Humans have a curfew of 10PM that's carried out till 8 AM the next morning.
--Altered Humans are barred/banned from working in certain occupations/professions including law enforcement, Legal practice, Medical Fields, Education/Teaching,
--Altered Humans are not allowed to purchase, consume or possess Alcohol
--Altered Humans are not allowed to purchase, consume, or possess other or illegal drugs. Enhanced penalties for Altered humans committing any drug crimes.
--Altered Humans cannot be present at any education facility including all school's and college's, neither as students or staff.
--Altered humans are not allowed to use their powers in public for any reason
--Altered Humans cannot use their powers during commission of any business or financial activities.
--Altered humans are not a protected class like race, religion & gender, and can be barred from & fired from any job without warning or reason.
--Altered Humans are banned from using public transportation and private transportation such as Uber & Lyft.
--Altered humans are barred/banned from using and/or owning guns & other weaponry.

Premise

Set in an alternate reality very similar to our own, a dynamic turn of events has forever changed the world in the year 2018. The entire world has been on the verge of war for the past year, many countries growing weary of America's position as the dominant global superpower. With rapid developments in technology around the globe it was only a matter of time before other nations began to flex their muscles intent on showcasing international dominance to replace the supposed land of the free as the top empire in the world.

Everything came to a head February 2 2018, a massive Energy Storm occurred in the United States. The skies were filled with raw destructive energy & violent raging winds. Powerful beams of energy rained down from the heavens in several major cities all at once, with millions perishing in less then 24 hours. The total death toll was found to be a few hundred more then ten million in this horrific sci-fi massacre that shook the nation & the rest of the globe. The series of unfortunate events terrorizing the democratic population didn't end there. The conclusion of the Energy Storm triggered a brief eclipse covering the world in a darkness that was a prelude of more to come.

The residual energy in the atmosphere left-over from the storm quickly seeped through the entirety of the country, leading several to get sick. This epidemic of this illness didn't stop with just filling the hospitals & overwhelming the medical community, leaving behind an X Men esque parting gift in some of it's victims.

Some people of color/minorities who are infected and recover begin manifesting superhuman abilities inspired & based on their inner most subconscious desires including superhuman strength, teleportation, & control over the elements among other powers. A secrete clandestine black ops organization is formed as joint venture between the CIA & Homeland Security's best operatives to seek control over America's new superhuman population as well as carrying out a thorough investigation into the Energy Storm Attack & the mysterious plague it triggered all while the world is on the brink of a global war now vastly enhanced by this unprecedented sci fi esque attack on the nation.

Setting

As stated above earlier, this RP takes place in an alternate reality version of the real world. Set in 2018 a few months after the Energy Storm took place. The world is on the verge of war, world war at that so there's an international component to the storyline that will be explored as it develops. For now the bulk of the action will be centered in the United States, & only minorities in the United States are the ones developing any superhuman abilities. Also every single minority/person of color has not been transformed into a superhuman, only some who are survivors of the energy plague. Of those who do recover, there are still plenty of minorities who aren't manifesting superhuman powers either.

As far as characters you can play whomever you'd like as long as the fit this setting. This includes regular people, people with powers, members of law enforcement, politically themed characters, agents of the clandestine black ops organization etc.

The name of the superhuman monitoring agency is Liberty. Liberty is a well funded organization filled with talented, resourceful & skilled agents. As mentioned in the premise the organization was formed as a joint venture between members of Homeland Security & the CIA. Agents can be recruited from other agencies including the FBI, Military, or even Civilians.

Rules:
1. Fairness, want everyone to be fair and remember this is a story powers can grow over the story. But I'd prefer you remember that powers are GROWING, so do not start off with any sort of mastery of your ability.

2. You can have as many characters as you can keep up with.

3. Stay as active as your life allows you to, and if you foresee an extended duration of unavailability try to free up any plots/characters you have interactions with.

4. Minimum post length at least one to two paragraphs

5. Set in the "Real" world so keep that in mind, this not Marvel or DC comics.

6. Powers are first come first serve, a power can be reserved if you PM me, and let me know. :) I'll keep a record of reserved powers, as a result of this it's advisable to ask and see if a power is available. Duplicate powers are allowed IF THE ORIGINAL person who picked the power doesn't mind, but try to have a creative difference for how you use the power.

7. Due to the nature of how they got their powers, no characters under 14 have powers.

8. Reality Ensues, to make this a unique & fun experience in this RP reality takes precedent over emotional attachment to characters. Meaning for example if your character is waltzing around Manhattan and Manhattan is hit by a Nuclear Missile, your character is deceased. Unless of course your character has means to teleport out of the way or such etc. There will be situations in the RP that may cost your characters their lives, but alas you can have multiple characters.

ROLEPLAY ACTIVITY

I will be updating this thread to allow newcomers to see the current activity level of the RP. As of now we are still accepting, slots are still open. When it comes to RP a full house is optimal for any ground breaking roleplay. In contrast to that however an overcrowded house is not welcome. Having an adequate number of players is a good thing for a game when it comes to all aspects from character interaction to world exploration. Whilst having too many can have the opposite effect, not allowing for the story to encompass everyone & other horrid things.

I say all this to say, I do not want any new players to make the misguided assumption that everyone who has submitted to the character thread is currently enrolled in the story. I'll be providing updates so that if anyone new & interested stumbles upon the thread they'll be able to know precisely how many people are currently involved in the game. I'll be updating this thread bi-weekly or weekly at best to ensure this list is current.

BACKGROUND
Anya was born and raised in Moscow as an only child. Her mother was a nurse and her father a diver with the Navy. From a young age, she had been interested in a job that was high-paced and didn’t consist of the typical 9 to 5 bore. For a while, she contemplated also joining the service like her father, but he persuaded her to seek other alternatives seeing as the world today wasn’t exactly the same as it was years ago when he was enlisted. Out of respect for her father, Anya obliged, and for a while after the fact, she didn’t think about what she would do with her life once she completed school. Instead, the young girl concentrated on her current life: getting good grades and figuring out which boy to date.

However, eventually, the time came for Anya to pick a career. Her parents would occasionally ask her what she wanted to do with her life, but she kept blowing them off. Anya already knew the answer though. She had been talking to someone in the Federal Security Service right around the time she commenced her last year of school. The recruiter would meet her without her parents knowing, but she didn’t need their permission anyway. She knew what she wanted to do with her life. Upon graduation, and right before Anya shipped off to training, she told her parents she’d be going away to school out of town. They questioned her telling them last minute, but she showed them an acceptance letter forged by her recruiter and claimed it was a surprise she had planned all along. Her parents were stoked, as they were none the wiser, and unfortunately for all three of them that’s the last time they would see each other. Anya had been briefed that they would fake her death and let her parents know at a later time. Sure, the news would be devastating, but they couldn’t allow an only child into their ranks with her parents believing she was still alive.

The adjustment period upon arriving at training was a bit rough, but Anya got through the initial phase. It didn’t take long for her to pick a specialty: American Intelligence. Yes, she’d be trained like the rest of them, but upon graduation, she would move to the United States in order to join their ranks within the CIA. Knowing what her future would consist of made it a tad easier for Anya to get through training. About halfway in, she was involved in an exercise which had been the toughest one yet. All of the candidates had their hands tied behind their backs and were then thrown into the deep end of the pool. Some managed to save themselves, probably because they had prior knowledge of the exercise, but Anya was one of the ones who drowned. But for the instructors, it was just another day in the pool. The moment they observed a candidate making no movements, they went ahead and pulled them out, where they would then be resuscitated. Anya was shook after the fact, as anyone else who experienced the same thing would be, but that didn’t stop her.

Eventually graduation day would come and in the blink of an eye, she made the move to the United States. Anya settled into a nice apartment, and her life in America as Jennifer Donovan would begin from that moment on. She had it all: the perfect American accent, unlimited funds, and the entire Russian government backing her up. At that moment, the world was her playground.

Ability: Teleportation - Tony can instantaneously move from one location to another. As of now, Tony can only jump a few yards at a time, and not always with 100% accuracy. As a side effect of his relative inexperience, Tony will occasionally teleport without meaning or intending to, often only a few inches at a time.

Background:
Tony Liu is the only child of a pair of wealthy Hong Kong natives, born on the West coast of the United States. His parents were a pair of business magnates overseas, raking in large amounts of profit through both legal and illicit means. The couple moved to America to get away from the more illicit side of their business, and as a result Tony was afforded a relatively care free childhood and spent most of it in the relative security of the upper middle class. He did well in school, and grew up well adjusted.

While getting along well with his family, as a result of them often jumping between America and Hong Kong for business, Tony grew up mostly independent of them. After highschool, Tony opted to taking on a military scholarship in lieu of his parent's money, and attended University of San Francisco. After graduation, Tony spent the next 4 years in the US Army Signal Corps.

Deciding that military life ultimately wasn't for him, Tony left the service after the service required by his scholarship had concluded. Taking his earnings and savings thus far, Tony purchased a small building in Chinatown, turning the upper loft into his personal apartment and converting the lower floors into a simple but moderately popular dive bar: The Gweilo.

For a while, things were looking fine for Tony- until the Energy Storm incident swept through the US. Tony was among the many that caught a mysterious illness. Following his recovery, Tony was shocked to discover powers that he had developed following the incident. Unsure how to react, Tony has spent the days since pretending he doesn't have powers as much as possible, hiding the fact that he has them from even his family.

Myeisha K. Cole-Johnson

Name: Myeisha Kiana Cole-Johnson Age: 28 Gender: Female Height: 5'2 Weight: 100lb Ethnicity: African-American. Sexual Orientation: Lesbian. Religion: Christian. Occupation: Cashier at Trader Joe's/Community College Student (Former Cook for the US Army). Appearance: Myeisha fits the African-American "stud" stereotype down to a T. Take one look at her and you'd probably have to take a second one to determine her gender. The girl usually dresses masculine and would never go anywhere near something like a dress or a skirt, she dresses as an African-American male would. Usually wears jordans, ripped-up jeans (usually sagging), a baseball hat, and a T-shirt of any type - and the girl dresses in a way that'd definitely draw attention to herself. Dresses like she's a millionaire rapper and the top of the world, to attract any female. The girl carries herself rather aggressively and has a large presence for somebody who's 5'2ft and probably a hundred pounds wet. She identifies one hundred percent as a female and thinks that it's stupid that she's expected to act a certain way because of her genitals. Now, Myeisha is African-American to her very core. Some people wonder if she's mixed because she's "light-skinned" but she asserts that she's African-American. She has some tattoos, specifically the sleeve tattoo of roses and thorns on her right arm - which stop just before her hand so she can hide them in a long-sleeved T-Shirt. On her other arm is a smaller half-sleeve on her forearm of stars and various trails and on the right side of her neck, she has an A tattooed. Myeisha's skin is kiiiiinda fucked up, just a little bit, from a lifetime of roughhousing, she has a bunch of scars. Nothing like badass battle scars but scars from cuts and shit that didn't heal right. Not that you would even be able to notice it unless you're either examining her or a bit too close for comfort (and begging for an ass whopping). Myeisha goes to the gym pretty regularly and works out a lot. She's not a bodybuilder, but she's definitely in pretty good shape. She doesn't work out for practical purposes but purely aesthetic appearance. The girl has some pretty well-toned and defined arms and legs but she's been working on some abs.

Ability: Stone Manipulation - Myeisha has the ability to manipulate stone far as the eye can see. She's capable of dramatic usages of her power, and subtle ones, like threading a stone like a needle.

Background: Now, Myeisha was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia... a hotspot for African-Americans that you'd have to be living under a rock to not know about. Myeisha never knew her father because when he heard that her mother was pregnant he wanted nothing to do with her. She had to chase the bastard down just to get some child support but other than that, he didn't want anything to do with children and treated the girl with scorn. Not a great thing for a young developing girl. Life was not great for Myeisha growing up because her mother was not always the most mentally or emotionally stable - the kind of person that would make spur-of-the-moment decisions. Which meant either spending money that they didn't have, screaming at her over anything, or letting in shitbags that took advantage of her. The latter was the start of Myeisha's disdain for men because she took the brunt of many of those shitbags. They were abusive towards her, or they... well, Myeisha ended up running to her aunt's house crying a lot.

Myeisha's aunt was the only saving grace that tried to take care of her but she had a full family (of around four kids!) to take care of herself. It was tough, but her aunt did everything to make sure Myeisha was straight even when it really screwed her over. Myeisha had some solace at school where she fit in not with the popular crowd but... her interests had her gravitating towards the other fuck up girls with daddy issues. Peer pressure was a bitch as they pretty much goaded her to do dumb shit like beat up kids and graffiti and vandalize. Detention ended up being an afterschool activity, summer school was for chumps, and expulsion was not even a concern. However, one day they went a little bit too far and ended up beating another girl so badly that she had to go to the hospital... and naturally, the police got involved and she was charged.

Then she was sent to a magical place known as the Juvenile Correction's center... where she spent a couple of months. She thought that she was gonna be the top dog going in, and was beat down pretty hard - learning that the best way to handle Juvie was keeping her head down and shutting up. After she got out her mother was hysterical and did not want anything to do with the girl, stating that she would kick her out the second that she turned eighteen. All she had to do was keep the bastard under her roof and often wouldn't feed her and Myeisha had no choice but to go to her aunt's house for food and shelter. More or less living there as she thought of her aunt as her real mom... and then everything was taking its toll on her.

Nobody wanted to talk to her at school, seeing her as some kind of monster for what she did and she wanted to break out of this cycle. She wanted to get the hell out of this city, out of this place... and that's when she decided to enlist in the Army. Myeisha walked into the recruiter's office when she turned eighteen, took the open contract, and became the legendary 92G (AKA. Cook). She went to BCT in Fort Jackson the very next week, where she went through hardship upon hardship in her attempts to become a US Army Soldier, and graduated. Before they carted her off to Fort Lee... where she was diagnosed with severe stress fractures in her hips. They would have kicked her out for that in BCT, but due to the good old sunken cost fallacy, she was allowed to graduate from Fort Lee despite already having a disability rating. Of course, it sucked but she was finally free of her insane mother and left behind that awful city... only to learn the horrors of the US military.

Which she was unfortunately stuck with for six years and went places like Alaska, Germany... Texas, and chose not to re-up at the end of her contract. Her plan when she got out was to get a degree... but she didn't have a whole lot of life skills, nor a place to go because like hell she was going back to Atlanta to her mom (like she would take her back anyway). She hit up her aunt that lived in San Francisco, and she was allowed to stay with her, where the best job she could get from serving her country for six years as a Cashier at Trader Joe's. Well, at least she managed to start going to the local community college.

Though the Energy Storm that hit the US changed everything and she found herself developing an affinity to stone. Which was weird... however, Myeisha kept a very tight lid on this as revealing herself to have magic superpowers was not a smart thing to do.

Right now she is very limited to smaller objects and she is currently unable to rescale items as she brings them to life

Background:

Amalia’s mother, Giselle, was born and raised in the Philippines before moving to the states to pursue a degree in fashion at the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology. While in the states she met Amalia’s father, but once she found out she was pregnant she dropped out of college and went back home to the Philippines to raise her. Giselle never told her former love about Amalia as she was ashamed of herself for conceiving a child out of wedlock.

Giselle still pursued her love of fashion in the Philippines and loved making clothes for her little girl. The two were inseparable and Amalia learned everything from her mom. As a birthday present when she was 10 years old her mother got Amalia her very first sewing machine, she had saved up to purchase it herself with no help from her family. Amalia started sewing clothes for her dolls and as she grew older she started making clothes for herself, her family, and her friends.

All seemed well in Amalia’s life. They did not have a lot of money, but she had a lot of family and happiness. She lived with her grandparents and went to school with her cousins, making clothes after school and hosting her own fashion shows. She also learned how to cook and bake from her grandmother. Amalia didn’t know anything different then the four walls she was raised in but she couldn’t have asked for anything better.

Around the age of 16, Giselle was offered a job in New York at a fashion magazine after one of her latest fashion lines went viral. Giselle was hesitant to accept, she didn’t want to uproot her daughter and was afraid to run across Amalia’s father, but decided she needed to chase her dreams. So the two packed their bags and moved to New York.

New York was very different from her home. Amalia didn’t know anyone, had no family, the streets were busy, and her mother was too busy for her. The two moved into a rough neighborhood and found themselves on the wrong side of a gun more than once. Amalia’s first friend at her new school was a boy she ended up dating. He became abusive quickly into their relationship. She stuck with him though, as she didn’t know anything different.
When Amalia graduated high school she wanted to get away from it all. She couldn’t take the streets, her apartment, or her mother who had changed over time into someone selfish. She didn’t bake anymore or care about Amalia’s fashion. Giselle had become too busy chasing her dreams she would have achieved had Amalia never been born. Amalia’s boyfriend also became too much to handle after graduation and her mother neglected to ever notice the black eye or the bruises on her arm.

Amalia had applied to the Academy of Art University all the way in San Francisco, California. Even though she loved the schools and fashion in New York City, she simply had to get as far away as she could get from her life in New York. Amalia packed her bags, moved to California, got any part time job that would accept her, and started a new life there. Bitterness grew in her heart towards her mother and she longed to one day have a happy life like she had before.

Amalia graduated from the Academy of Art University at 22 and continued to work as a waitress while pursuing her dream of fashion. When the energy storm passed over Amalia was hospitalized, she almost called her mother to rekindle after their falling out as she was worried she was going to die in the hospital bed, but she made it through. (Unbeknownst to her, Giselle had died in the energy storm) After the hospital trip a strange power seemed to course her veins. One night after finishing sketching one of her new designs, the corner of the dress suddenly came off the page as real fabric.

Ability: Thomas can manifest a burst of golden energy, which propels him off the ground and allows him to fly. For every few seconds in the air, Thomas must unleash another burst, or risk falling to the ground. Thomas can also release bursts in quick succession to fly faster. Currently Thomas can only fly for about forty-five seconds maximum before needing to land for a few seconds to catch his breath.

Background: Thomas was born in the San Carlos Apache Reservation in Arizona. The first son of a teenage couple, Thomas was not planned and was a great burden on the struggling teens. Thomas’ parents decided to give him a better life, one off the reservation, so they took their newborn and left. By the time Thomas was one year, his family had moved in and out of many cities, eventually settling down in Phoenix, Arizona. Both of Thomas’ parents got minimum wage jobs, one working days, the other nights, so that someone was always with Thomas. The little family was happy for a while in their tiny apartment.

Once Thomas started to walk and talk, his parents began to introduce him to others, making play dates with the other kids in the apartment building. Thomas would discover even more family members when his father’s brother came to live in Phoenix. Things were really good for Thomas as he entered school. However, one day Thomas came home from first grade to learn that his father had been in a car crash. He had survived but had several broken bones and other injuries.

Following the accident, Thomas’ father could no longer work, putting further strain on the family income. Thomas’ father thought of asking his brother for help, but he was having issues of his own with the law. Thomas’ father decided to try and sue the person who hit him, but this would only lead to prolonged litigation and hefty lawyer fees. The stress of it all caused fighting between Thomas’ parents, causing his father to move out and in with his brother. He would return only a few weeks later when he learnt his wife was pregnant.

So at the age of twelve, Thomas became a big brother when his brother Daniel was born. Thomas immediately became his protector, trying to shield him from all the pain he had endured. Things would become bad for the family when the father began abusing pain medication. During Thomas’ high school years, his father would come in and out of his life. Thomas ignored this however, instead focusing on school, particularly metal shop class. Thomas would end up graduating with good grades, his father promising him that he would get clean the same day.

True enough, Thomas’ father kept his word, being sober for three months as Thomas went off to college. Thomas pursued a degree in auto mechanic repair, as he had come to love working with cars. Even before he finished his degree, he was offered a job at a local mechanic. Also during college, Thomas’ parents would come to an understanding that they are bad as a couple, but could remain friends. His father would get a bigger role in his and Daniel’s life.

After graduating, Thomas would continue to work at the same mechanic, but did ponder the idea of moving away to start his own life, much like his parents had. Thomas decided to hold off for now, instead enjoying his good family situation. It was with his family, specifically his father and brother, that he went for a walk on the day of February 2nd 2018. The energy storm came out of nowhere, the Crichtons having nowhere to hide. A lightning strike came down toward Daniel, but with speed granted from adrenaline, his father managed to push him away, taking the brunt of the bolt. Thomas would rush over to his brother, picking him up and beginning to sprint.

Thomas would run for almost a solid minute, seeing passerbys getting shocked and vehicles completely destroyed. However, Thomas didn’t notice a pothole in the road, one that caused him and Daniel to topple to the ground. Groaning in pain from the fall, Thomas looked up to the sky just in time to see an energy bolt hurtling toward him and Daniel. Then everything went black.

Thomas woke up several days later in the hospital, his mother at his side. Thomas asked about his father, tearfully learning that he hadn’t survived the strike. Fearing the same fate for his brother, Thomas was elated to learn that he survived and was in a room down the hall, having woken up the previous day. Life changed for Thomas after the storm. Once again he considered leaving Phoenix, as there was just too much pain in the city. But those thoughts became inconsequential when Thomas learnt he had powers. Somehow he could now fly, propelled by some kind of energy. Yes, life was changing for Thomas Crichton.

This sounds like an interesting setting, but as a white person from England I am probably the least qualified person to portray the American POC experience without accidentally being horribly stereotypical. Is it only ethnic minorities who got powers, or are other minority groups like LGBT, neurodivergent, handicapped etc. also potentially powered?

@Bai Suzhen I'm happy you gained interest in the premise of this story! As of now at this point in the storyline only ethnic minorities have manifested superhuman abilities. However your character doesn't have to be American, for example Alicefalling's character originates from the Philippines. If you take a look at her background you'll see they've created a storyline for them that led them to being in America.

In theory, Jennifer can turn into anything she likes. In practice, it's a bit trickier. While she can change what she's made of and how it's arranged, she can't create more matter, so if she wanted to be a giant, she'd be a hollow one. Outside of a few one-offs she hasn't managed to repeat, she can turn her whole body into a single materiel and reshape that, or go back to her human form.

Background:
Jennifer wouldn't describe her life as anything particularly special. Born and raised in London in a flat that used to be a council estate, she went to school, then to a university that used to be a college, worked at Tesco in between and eventually got a job teaching science at her former secondary school.

Being black wasn't a big deal either. Her parents had been born in England (Though their parents were from the West Indies and Caribbean), and the racist groups had by-and-large moved on to targeting Eastern-Europeans. She got teased far more for wanting to kiss girls, and other than being stopped-and-searched by the police more often than average, she wouldn't have thought her race made a big difference. Sure it was there, but it's London. Even the minorities have massive numbers.

The first time it really mattered, it probably saved her life.

Jennifer had picked quite possibly the worst place to be when the storm happened - On a plane somewhere between New York and Las Vegas. She'd been looking forward to the holiday, watching an in-flight movie when the emergency lights came on. The flight attendants asked everyone to secure their seatbelts, there was talk of turbulence and an emergency landing, the rain hammered the windows as the plane shook and lurched, and then everything went white.

Looking back, Jennifer decided her powers must have activated and saved her. If the energy storm is what caused them, then being at the centre of one would have switched them on, right? Maybe she turned into air and was blown about? It's not like she remembers anything about what came next. Just delerious impressions and dizzy sequences that just as easily might have been a dream. She remembers waking up in what she would later realise was probably a tent-hospital set up at one of the storm sites, panicking at something and fleeing. She dreamed she was a cactus, but maybe it wasn't a dream and she'd been photosynthesizing and preserving water?

When she could think clearly again, Jennifer had found her way to SanFran with only a ragged sheet. She tried to get help from a cop, who drew his gun and yelled at her to stay back, then fired. Jennifer thought she was dead, closing her eyes and screaming. She felt the bullets hit, thought she must be blocking out the pain, but a few seconds passed and it still didn't arrive. When she opened her eyes, the cop fired again. This time she saw the bullets ricochet off her metal body. Both people fled from each other in opposite directions, at some point Jennifer realised she was flesh-and-blood again.

She hid in the storm-ruins, which had already been picked clean but were private enough for her to practice in, and eventually find some things to wear. A few days later, she was confident and, if not presentable, at least a lot moreso than she had been. Now she just had to somehow get home with no money, no ID, no passport, no idea if they'd even let her on a plane...

Ability: Luck Manipulation - Alexis is capable of influencing luck around herself and her surroundings (up to 1 meter around her). She can make herself super lucky for a few seconds at a time during a day but has a passive ability that makes her generally luckier than most people. Over time her ability will grow to the point where she'll be able to decrease the luck of others around her and make herself extremely lucky for a longer period of time.

Background:
Alexis's family came into America long before she was born. They started small doing odd jobs when they could and eventually managed to open up a shop. Alexis and her twin sister, Nafisa, were born there. Named as they were to represent the new world they live in but also to respect the traditions of the one they've left.

While the sisters were identical in all physical ways, everything else was different. Nafisa was always the model student, the one that people would praise and of course, the one that always prefered to stay and help the family.
Alexis was everything but that, always skipping classes, hanging out with the popular kids eventually made her the shame of her family and there would always be fights between them.

Eventually Alexis had enough and ran away from home at the age of 17 with a senior student, her boyfriend at the time. Her boyfriend left her soon after they reached Vegas for another woman and she was left stranded. No money, no shelter and no contacts. Not wanting to return home to her parents, she did whatever someone who finds themselves in Vegas can do to get money. Begging, pickpocketing from drunk gamblers and then proceeded to gamble. She learned quickly how to play and discovered a passion for gambling.

A few months before the great Energy Storm she found herself working in a casino as a dealer and then the storm came. She developed the powers soon after but didn't realize it until a few weeks later when she was fired from the casino on suspicion of "cheating".
Since then, she has been gambling at every casino, pub or whatever else she could find that didn't ban her after winning too much.
