God of War is an incredible game and I don't really know anyone that thought it was 'just OK'?

My little brother, who plays far fewer games than I, has taken the week of Ragnarok off to play it upon release based entirely off the strength of the first game. We did not grow up playing the series. It's just super solid.

Imma let you finish but-

Blizzard is one of those companies that actually gets heat when its deserved. Because it got popular over a few nostalgic IP's, meant for PC gamers (the ones least willing to deal with bullshit) and it's been constantly fucking them all up. (Let alone all the other reasons the company gets shit.)

So yeah, WOW has gotten flak for a variety of reasons. Though I don't know which you're referring too. But looking it up leads to articles pointing out that Blizzard went on to ban boosting organizations. So I'd imagine someone/somewhere complained.

Well, that's another issue at hand and not what I'm referring to. Nor am I talking about boosting organizations. I've been a long time Blizzard player and I'm aware of the shit that's gone down, but neither of those are really applicable to what I said. What I'm trying to say is that I think the idea of complaining about Overwatch becoming a free game is stupid when no one ever has said a lick about all the free WoW expansions Blizzard loves to give out. Since... I think Warlords of Draenor, they've boosted everyone to the 2nd latest expansion, which in this case would be Shadowlands whenever Dragonflight comes out. Hell, they even go a step further sometimes--they gave everyone a chance to get the Shadowlands expansion for free for like a week or two awhile back without Dragonflight even being out yet.

I guess you can say "well, you have to pay a sub for WoW" but it still doesn't change the fact that people have been getting $50+ expansion packs for free to keep them up to date and ready for the newest one. I just don't see Overwatch being F2P now as an issue when people clearly have no issue with Blizzard making their other games or rather expansion packs free all the time.

<Snipped quote by Kuro>

I said that due to everyone on twitter/social media stating the opposite. But it's apparently some widespread bug. (And not intentional design.)

I've basically never bothered with most of Blizzard's games. Overwatch, very much included. I only got into Heroes Of The Storm. (R.I.P)

Edit: I forgot Diablo games existed cuz tired. Don't judge me.

Yeah, Overwatch 2 has had issues with its launch, some being exacerbated by the DDOS that I think is still ongoing and only making things worse behind the scene. But your stuff should eventually carry over, mine did when I managed to get into the game.

My problem with the battle pass as it exists in Overwatch 2 is that you get a paltry amount of XP after games unless you specifically go for challenges. A player is unlikely to get to 80 on just daily challenges and weekly challenges alone. I'm at rank 23 but I also get a 20 percent xp buff because I got the premium pass with my 40 dollar pre order.

I just don't see Overwatch being F2P now as an issue when people clearly have no issue with Blizzard making their other games or rather expansion packs free all the time.

I feel like this is an apples and oranges comparison though, no? Because one is essentially giving old paid-for DLC content free to its players. A net positive for basically everyone. (That I'm sure still upsets nerds who don't like new and healthy player bases.) Versus making their paid game (an objectively worse) free-to-play model, with additional microtransactions and heaping helpings of new server issues and bugs.

Unless the argument is "Blizzard gives people plenty already. So this going F2P, in order to squeeze more money out of its players, should be considered a fair trade."

Stuff like this only tends to happen when you're an Evolve-level marketing disaster. (Thus, the company is desperate to recuperate costs.) But I can't imagine the Overwatch player base was low enough to justify this decision. (According to articles like this, it was between 5-7 million players.)

Which sounds healthy to me. But I guess, for now, the marketing still clearly panned out in its favor with 10 million active players for its "sequel". (With only a tenth of that being currently online.)

However, in terms of competing with other vastly overrated FPS's. (Valorant, Fortnite, Apex Legends, etc.) It's getting crushed in numbers. So it almost feels like its an attempt to join in the F2P gold rush too little, too late.

But I suppose I don't really have a dog in this fight...

Because I was playing Source Of Madness. A rogue-lite with random generation, and a lovecraftian art style.

And yeah, I suppose it's precisely what you'd imagine would happen. Killing enemies from off-screen, from unreachable ledges and small cracks like the coward you are. Because everything is an incomprehensible mass of tentacles, that will only kill you by getting yourself stuck within them. So it was a mostly passive experience through my first run, with me getting an item that leeched life when it hit a target. (Obviously better than most of the other things that I was rewarded with.)

Then the second area had nothing but poison swamps and poisonous self-destructing enemies. So, yeah. I'm sure that will be a blast to deal with.

Though I enjoyed the atmosphere and how fair its challenge and upgrades appeared to be. (Compared to a much harder Dead Cells.) But I am concerned with how quickly repetitive and one note that it might feel in the future...

But it was more fun than suffering through Destiny 2.

To make this quick; I do not recommend Source Of Madness.

I don't hate this game. (Yet.) And I might even attempt to struggle through more of it tomorrow. But Source Of Madness' gameplay is incredibly passive, and it has a single useful loadout for every situation as I feared. Aka, double life steal. (And that becomes the biggest problem in its boss fights.)

Because all you do for every boss is chip away at the long health bar, and watch it act as brain dead as most of the other enemy AI. (Though at least there’s usually some extra visual spectacle for your troubles.)

Except for “Krampus” (ha ha meme.) A snow boss. In a small boring-looking arena. With +14000 health. Environmental hazards that make it impossible to pay attention to what’s on screen. Combined with attacks that basically cannot be tactically dodged. Doing 6 damage per shot, despite both of my weapons' higher stats. (And there was no way to do extra damage.) Got him down to 200 HP, before I got stun locked to death.

A fight that could not have been any more insufferable and boring to experience. And the idea of grinding for upgrades to “outlast” the borefest a 2nd or likely 3rd time, does not excite me.

After about a week with me playing less often and really only logging on to do my daily missions, I am rank 41 on the Overwatch 2 battle pass. With 50-something days left in the season it stands to reason that it is possible and feasible to get to rank 80, the max rank, just by doing dailies and weeklies.

This doesn't excuse putting future heroes on level 55 of the pass but it is also a bit less daunting considering just playing normally without the carrot on a stick of dailies and weeklies gets you a pittance of xp.

I'm only halfway ish through mine, but like, there's still 40+ days left so I'm not in any particular rush to finish the pass.

At the risk of starting a tangent into games we'd like to see from the industry, I admit to often pondering over what it would take to reach a happy medium between the relative freedom and complexity of an immersive sim, and the somewhat restrictive design choices in survival horror, particularly one similar to Alien Isolation, where there's a nearly unbeatable AI stalking you. It's not impossible to avoid favoring one character build over another, I feel, but it'll likely take an amazing balancing act that not just any dev team can handle. Still, it's fun to imagine a game where the player can get acquainted with the inner workings of the space station and other such dynamics enough to coordinate with allied NPCs to progress the game, and on their own terms no less.

Bug Fables And The Everlasting Sapling (It's Paper Mario crossed with Paper Mario - Yahtzee Croshaw) is supposed to be one of those "it gets better later" kind of RPG's. But it starts out perfectly decent as it is. A 6/10 "has its charm" kind of decent. However, my immediate issue was its controls and combat mechanics. (Both not quite working as well as they should be.) And the thing I'd imagine you'll spend most of your game doing. (The second chapter is also boring me to tears) So while I already know it expands on its narrative. I can't imagine the general clunkiness is worth dealing with, when I have other games to play...

So I intend to get through the best games that I have in my Steam library, and then go back to give others another shot. Grime's next.

Omega Strikers.

And Darkest Dungeon. It was only 4$ on the Halloween Steam sale. It's not really something you want to spend your entire weekend playing but you can play a few dungeon runs at a time without it feeling repetitive.

I have been playing so much 7th Dragon III: Code VFD. It's a hella good RPG on the 3D's.

It has this class, Duelist, that's just one giant YGO reference. If you know me, you know I love my YGO. But it's also just mechanically cool: It works by having a maximum hand size of 6 and starting with anywhere from 2-4 cards in hand (default 2, upgraded to 4 with skill points). You've got 3 types of elemental cards you can draw between fire, electric and ice. These cards in hand are used to cast your skills; a basic fire spell costs 1 fire, a field nuke costs 2 fire, etc.. But the interesting part is the traps, which need ice + lightning, ice + fire and fire + lightning respectively. Later in the game you unlock a skill where, if you set up all three traps in a row, you activate Judgment and deal massive amounts of damage to every enemy. Then there's also X Burn, which is a 3 turn "at the start of your turn, deal damage" fire skill. THe zinger is that this damage at the start of your turn increases for every fire card you've played while it was active, so you can set it up, then on the next turn burn 3 fire cards and suddenly you're oneshotting most things in the game at the start of your turn, for 2 turns.

Duelist ended up being my major boss killer up until the final boss and the bonus dungeon where One Turn Kill strategies stopped working.
