Hmm. Well it was a debate... of sorts. You see we reality warpers have our own territories. Some of which are shared among many individuals, others by one, like in my case with this city.

And when we want another reality warpers territory, we issue a challenge for it, which always leads to a brief bout of violence followed by resolve. We did this after realizing negotiations led to conflict anyway, making such paths fruitless. Anyway, once a challenge has been issued the challenger and the challenged will fight as you've just seen, with the victor being able to state their claim and the defeated being required to listen.

Yeah. Biggest fucking disputes mankind has ever seen. Or would have seen, had reality not been fucked for a good 175 million years or so. Imagine the warpers as God and their failed meeting as his daughter. Now imagine the tensions in that meeting as the guy who just plowed her without his permission and you'll have a slight idea of how mad those fuckers were.
