Current you know, my SO never forces me to say a thing that's on my mind and doesn't mind if I don't always explain myself which makes it way easier to actually tell them stuff. boundaries good.

as much as I'd love to pre-plan RPs, I've also noticed that's the fast track to killing them. A little planning and a rough gist is fine, but anything beyond that and people don't wanna write no more.

Ah, beat me to the punch, I was gonna send Sara after the snipers since she's a speedy flanker

I could edit if you want me to.
Well, the enemy had come in hot and fast. It was to be expected, considering they were AI opponents and could react faster than any human. Rio thought back on the plan in a flash, needing to cover for both Bill and Sara. Bill was out of the question for now, he'd positioned himself straight in front of the enemy. So that only left Sara, which was currently being targeted by two brawlers coming at the two ladies of the group. So the appropriate reaction here was...

"Grenade!" Rio shouted over the communications as she had Union toss one into the area between the skirmishers and the two girls, giving them both a small window of time to retreat and fire from a distance. Unfortunately, Rio had forgotten Sara was a skirmisher as well, so this left her dead in the water until after the small bomb exploded. Union boosted backwards and raised up it's rifle, taking aim at one of the two brawlers and sent a small volley of bullets in burst fire towards it.

"Someone get one of these snipers off of me, it's a bit difficult to dodge them both!"

A sudden message over the communications reached Rio's ears as she fired away. Protecting Laudat was Gurevich's job, but from the sounds of it, he had trouble as well. Atlas was doing just fine against the skirmisher, but the same couldn't be said for the rest. Sucks to be them, though. Rio wasn't going to compromise her position for them. As fate would have it, though, it didn't seem like she was going to need to. Sara's voice suddenly sprang up in the team chat.

"Hamasaki! Hold them off for a bit longer!"

Rio growled as she heard this command, being directly told what to do by someone who wasn't even the team leader. Still, she had to agree that this might have been for the best. All Sara got for a reply was a short "Got it," from the tall woman. She moved Union in a bit closer to create a barrier between her and Sara's GEAR. Pointing up Union's rifle, Rio began to launch more aggressive attacks. She wasn't good at running and gunning, but by firing enough bullets it should at least slow their advance. When the brawlers closed in on her again, she threw another grenade in between them both to zone them out.
Hm, think Megan will do 2/3, unless there's nobody else in which case 4/5 I suppose.

Scar and I agree that Leander and Amelia are going to stick together and just hang out.

I have no idea what I'll have Joshua do.

@AmmokkxBen, and Andre can probably either hang out together, or have duels. Alternatively I can shove Ben into trying motivate some of the other students around school in some sort of event.

I was hoping the other two I tagged would reply, but I'll make due with you jokers for now.

I like that you guys are gonna do something different, but for anyone interested in 4, you're going to have to pitch me an idea (like Vance did for Ben). If you take 5, I'll come up with something on the spot depending on where you place yourself. Also talk to me for 2/3 if you plan on going or doing it somewhere in particular so I can help set the scene if needed.

Also, those five were examples, not a be-all-end-all list. I just like having a rough idea of what you'll do so I know what to write after classes end.
@Ammokkx@Ryougu

I feel like this is extending too much towards the players, and less towards the characters. Characters can be played however an individual wishes; If your character is inexperienced, and makes mistakes, that's your call; If a character has carried a specific archetype with them for a majority of their dueling career and know how to use it, that's their thing. If it's unbalanced, that's a display of different in-character skill levels, and that's all. It shouldn't extend to us outside of the game, wishing for a challenge; If that's the case, go actually play the game. This tournament isn't calling for professionals; It's calling for individuals, skilled or not, who have been able to carry on the legacy of the Guardian Monsters throughout history to their modern time.

Personally, Itaki is not playing to win; He isn't a professional duelist, he can slip up; But he's been using Ancient Gears since he was a kid; So he knows how they work. So he'll be capable of giving new players a rough time, but due to his character, he'd rather teach them a bit; Sure he has a better chance to win, but the other character'll get something out of it, you know? And that's what truly matters to him. If they beat him, he'd feel even better; Knowing they had a good time, like he sure as hell did.

The issue here is the perception of the players, and not the characters at all. Sure, characters might get upset if they lose; Perhaps like some characters in the anime they'll take it way too harshly, but again, that's them. None of it should extend to us, and if it does, maybe a RP like this isn't for us.

Again, if you actually -want- a challenge, go play YGOpro, DEVpro, Duel Network; Or hell, come meet me at the Tulsa Regionals and duel my actual Ancient Gear deck which will carry all the shithead meta solemn strikes and warnings and dimensional barriersand kaijus that'll provide an actual challenge.

Sidenote: Itaki's deck contains none of the above, because playing overly meta and trying to win because you yourself in real life can feel like a rockstar is pretty damn meh.

Thaaaat's all I can think to say atm

Yeah, this is kind of my stance on the whole thing. My bad if I didn't properly convey what I was trying to say.

EDIT: I'm also not going to comment on it further, 'cause it'd be clogging up the Int. Check too much.
@Ammokkx
Eh, in a duel you should always work to achieve victory. Just as you should always strive to make it enjoyable and/or challenging for opponent. Life totals don't matter in this regard.

So I should have a rookie character play like a professional because I should give my opponent a challenge, rather than have him purposefully make a mistake so he can learn and develop from there? Granted, I agree with the sentiment of trying to win, but everyone tries to win differently. I don't berate your way of thinking, by the way. I think it's a valid stance to have, just not one that I personally agree with. Play to win Vs. Playing for fun, and all.
@Ammokkx
Personally I'd vote 8000, since well...Chaos giant is FFFFFFF too stronk for 4000

Chaos giant is too strong for even 8k.

But then again, I have a wildly different perspective on this issue than most do. I look at RP dueling more like wrestling than I do the actual game, where it becomes an art through fighting rather than just fighting to win. This is why I personally prefer 4k.
I vote for 4k, personally. Here's my reasoning:

4k is a lot more narratively interesting. Duels won't last as long and are a lot tighter, making you be more conservative with both LP and maybe a little more risky with your plays. Both players are on a timer, which leads to tension. Longer duels are just not as interesting to write out, as I've witnessed first hand in my RP. Some of the most fun duels I've had barely scraped the turn 10 mark, which is counting each player's turn as 1 (so 5 turns for both players). This is also why the anime does it: Not only does it save time, you can also chop off LP in a more interesting way rather than just hurling 3 chunks of 2.5k and then letting the protag reversal it by buffing their monster up to 20k ATK or something ridiculous.

I'm fine with either, though.
@JamesMuddy@AdmrlStalfos19

Garland hasn't decided yet.

Might be good to vote on it.
Also, looks like someone's intent on running Infernities.

Well I've been found out pretty quickly. I feel like the card's 500 LP requirement makes it balanced, tho.

@Killfang96

Yep. You can use generic monsters that don't directly support a different archetype.

@Ryougu
I'll probably go for RNG, aka what you're doing in your RP, iirc. @Raddum gave some solid reasons, iirc.

Might I suggest leaving players the option to script their duels if both parties agree to it? I do the same thing in my RP: If both players agree to script their duel, I see no harm in allowing them. I prefer to RNG too, but it's nice to have the option.
@GarlandDaHero Been mulling it over, I might join after all. I can still find the time to write for this and am a sucker for YGO RP's. Still, gotta ask, can you give confirmation on how you're going to handle duels? You mentioned being on the fence about both RNG and players choosing their own hands, but never gave a concrete answer.

Also, here's a Guardian.

EDIT: Oh, also. If a card has an Anime and Video Game version, but no IRL version, which version do you go by?
