A Star Wars Story

It is a dark time for the galaxy. It has been nine months since the destruction of Yavin IV by the Death Star and the defeat of the REBEL ALLIANCE. The emboldened and vengeful GALACTIC EMPIRE has begun a series of purges and mass arrests of what remains of the Rebellion throughout the galaxy, thousands perishing in summary executions, tortured for information about a Rebellion they know nothing about, or shipped off to labor camps on far-flung planets.

Now, the Empire has a new enemy - the HUTT CARTEL, which, perceiving recent Imperial actions as a threat to their sovereignty, has begun a guerilla war to push Imperial presence out of their territory. In response, the Empire has seized several spice mines owned by the Hutts and begun to form a blockade to encompass nearly all the borders of Hutt Space; most estimates give at most three more months until the Empire’s blockade is complete and no living thing comes in or out of Hutt territory. Due to the millions of tonnes of the material at stake, many have taken to calling the recent tensions the beginning of the so-called SPICE WARS.

You have been arrested by Imperial troops on Tatooine for acts of subversion and treason against the Empire, real or contrived, awaiting transfer to a maximum security prison nearer to the core. However, rumors among your fellow prisoners tell of a bloodlusted JEDI, driven to madness after the loss of his brothers at Yavin, determined to strike down every stormtrooper or Hutt henchman that dares cross him. Some of you at the Tatooine holding facility eagerly await his arrival, while others fear that he might kill the prisoners as well.

This is a galaxy where no one trusts each other anymore, after all.

Hi guys! In Star Wars - Dark Era, the roleplay centers around a group of convicts on the run from the Galactic Empire. You could be a former member of the Rebellion, a henchman on Jabba the Hutt’s payroll, or an ordinary denizen of the galaxy caught up somehow in this mess. This roleplay will not share the same optimism and idealism Star Wars stories usually have; more morally grey themes will be tackled by the players. Will you keep on fighting for a long-dead Rebellion? Would you bomb a cantina full of innocent people to throw Jabba’s bounty hunters off your trail? Would you betray your comrades to save your life from the wrath of the Empire? The moral code players will have will not be so clear-cut, and sacrifice and corruption will play a huge part in this roleplay.

Anyone up?
@Mokley mindblocked rn, my CS will take a while.
Nice! Tentative interest.
Very interesting! Don't know if I can join just yet though.
@mupersan Dammit, you beat me to notJapan!

In that case, I might make a notChina near you which doesn’t like you very much.

@Zaxter996 I don’t know if I can make a CS in time. Maybe the band can pick up the audio engineer later down the road?
Is there any room still? I’m thinking of doing an audio engineer/lighting technician/alt bassist. :D
It's difficult to invent a realistic, complex character completely from the depths of your own mind. What a lot of writers find easier to do is to take inspiration from real people. Real people already have their own backstories and experiences much deeper than any psychologist could take down in full. The thing is, when you inject even the outermost characteristics of these real people into your work, the very existence of these characteristics existing within your character already implies the existence of the complex backgrounds behind them as well. If you know someone in real life who is depressed, and you inject their simple real-life traits that show they are depressed into your work, your character immediately becomes more believable just by relying on certain characteristics that already have presupposed, predetermined underlying causes behind them. This is much easier than trying to understand and build upon your own idea of a depressed person from scratch. No amount of imagination is a substitute for reality. Truth is often stranger than fiction.

Also, you may have heard that adding flaws to a character makes them more believable and therefore better. It's a good start, but don't just stop there. A character is not defined by a list of 'good things' and 'bad things' about their personalities. A character, especially for RP purposes, is defined by how their interactions shape the world and how other people view them. The impression of 'good' and 'bad' traits is an arbitrary imposition of morals. What is a flaw for a certain situation could be a redeeming trait in another. What I find better as a character-builder is a list of their own set of morals and how they would react to certain situations. The rules (or lack thereof) that a character imposes upon himself or herself defines how they will interact with other RPers, and that's the more important thing in RPs. These rules can clash, develop, or be destroyed. Remember, the best stories usually advance a character and not necessarily a plot.
@Dusty I'm very sorry, but I am taking a break from RPing for the moment. You can still use the concept for your own RP, just make sure to credit me.
