I think to sell someone on an interest check, it's really important to seem enthusiastic about your own idea. That means writing more than a single sentence to attract potential players.

Did you know that Dante's inferno is called a divine comedy because things work out for the protagonist? Back in the day, the only two genres were comedy and drama. The only difference was that in a comedy, the protagonist is better off at the end, and a drama is the opposite. So that's why a story about going through hell can still be considered a comedy, even if it's not funny.

Name:
Broken Promise, BP, Boss

Age:
Old enough to know better, too young to care. (that is to say 30's)

Preferred RPs:
I Prefer to make my own, but will occasionally join something if it looks interesting. I'll join just about anything so long as it isn’t overly edgy/sweet, though it's rare for me to do. I don't do 1x1s too often either.

Preferred Roles:
I tend to play adorable characters everyone wants to befriend or proper assholes everyone wants to stay away from. I try not to play moral paragons or prime evils.

RP Conquests:
I've completed quite a few RP's off site, but most of them are on private forums or have simply been lost to the ravages of server crashes. As for stuff here, I'm sure everyone who sees me post in the off topic sections has seen me find an excuse to talk about Danganronpa: Tower of Carnage. It's a project that took over 4 years to complete and I feel pride not only for myself but all the wonderful people who helped make it enjoyable during its run. Re: Zero: The High Council Is technically my first, but it was just something I kind of took over and ended up ending the story after just six months. It finished, but eh...

Last RP I finished was Symphony of Espers which turned out pretty good.

RP's in progress:
For some reason I can't seem to stay away from Ari's magical girl RP, even if I'm not sure why I'm still in it.

As for my own projects, I'm doing Symphony on High to continue the gigachad adventures of the espers in Pax Septimus.

RP Graveyard:
I've been pretty fortunate on this forum. I think I joined one when I first came on the site that didn't really do anything, and there are a few 1x1 things that didn't go anywhere. It's disappointing when an RP ends before it can be finished, but I've come to look at them as learning experiences.

And then there's that london magical girl RP, and that dark magical girl RP. I think I'm done joining magical girl RPs for a while.

Other interests:
Videos
I watch a lot of educational videos on youtube. Usually as research for something I’m writing or purely because a topic interests me. I like channels like Tier Zoo and Daryl Talks Games, and I’ll also watch things like Critical Drinker or Literature Devil to deepen my understanding of story telling. Though I also like memes and jokes, to which I’ll find myself watching stuff like Sseth, but usually find myself surfing through meme videos. I gotta work on that.

Games
I have a rather long history of playing virtually every platformer to come into existence during the indie boom, as well as quite a few other indie games. I’ve played Meatboy, Binding of Issac, Gunvolt, Cuphead, Princess Remedy in a World of Hurt, Classic Metroid, Warcraft 3, Final Fantasy 7,8, and 14, Left 4 Dead, Shantae, Celeste, Danganronpa, God Eater, the list goes on. What I’ve played is kind of all over the place. I don’t play many games these days, I tend to pick things that look interesting and go on a decent steam sale.

Painting Minis
I do this in moderation. Otherwise, it's a pretty expensive hobby to start...

Music
I listen to everything, save most country/rap songs. I have too many favorites to name.

Personality:
Not one to take life or the internet too seriously. Is only serious about writing well and having a good time.

People to Insult:
Dalton is a Dingus.

When I joined EH, I didn't really know what to do. There were too many different writing levels, too many places to put your character, and too many power levels. Even though I joined a planet with 5 people on it, no one could really play together. Because there was no focus, everyone was moving in a different direction. I quickly lost interest after writing my first post.

Maybe if EH grew into something that had 200-300 active players it could support that kind of diversity, but you can't start off that way. There's no real setting, and it makes it hard to really feel like you're part of the world. especially when everyone is essentially from a different world. I can see the appeal of having anime waifus walking along side loony tunes or action heroes, but I don't think it'll last. Not without some explanation for it anyway.

@barnowldaddy's character has become an NPC. They haven't been on guild for 18 days. I will not be letting them back in, even should they show up. At 22 currently active characters, the RP has plenty of warm bodies in it at the moment.

I'd like to start using OOC for announcements, comments, and questions that we'd like everyone to see. So I'd like everyone to hold off on posting memes daily for the time being.

EDIT: The hospital side should be done tomorrow sometime. It's not too late to work something in.
The above link gives many examples of bad villains, and does point out a small pool of traits that good villains should have.

First, I should note that antagonists and villains aren't the same thing, but they are usually interchangeable. an antagonist opposes the protagonist, who is the spotlight of the story. Where as a villain is someone who commits evil acts. An example of a story where the villain isn't an antagonist is death note. Light is most certainly the villain of the story, but he's the protagonist. This is important to consider, because what you really want is someone who is going to oppose the players in the story.

A good antagonist opposes the protagonists, which is usually going to be the bulk of the players in the RP. Anyone playing an antagonistic character should have a goal that puts them at odds with the other players. You could have a standard villain who just wants to kill everyone and everything, but he might not be more important than the players tasks, or the players might not find him worth dealing with because some of them are selfish in nature. Say the players are taking a purification crystal to the center of the largest ocean to purify the world's water supply. A crazy serial murderer/rapist/arson/mastermind isn't really a good obstacle for our characters. So what they plan on wiping out a city, if we don't get this crystal to the ocean, the whole world will die! Now, maybe our antagonist knows about this crystal, and wants to use it to resurrect a long dead civilization. The consequences of using the crystal this way is that it won't be able to purify the ocean, and 95% of the world will die of thirst or poison. Even the players with more selfish ambitions will be disappointed that they won't get paid for carrying out this mission. THAT antagonist is one that all of the players are going to be watching out for.
@Odin I was more writing an informative post for some of the users who were confused about how copyright claims work. I've said my peace on artists already: That I don't understand their viewpoint, but feel we should honor a take down request. It creates the least amount of drama, and pictures probably aren't critical to the function of an RP.

When you create a work, you do technically have "copyright" over the image. But you do need to pay to have it realized by the Copyright Office so that you can actually prosecute. Which is why I say I doubt very many people have paid the 35-40$ per photo to have their work truly protected. But that's not really something the forum needs to be looking down the barrel of what few times it does happen. It's much easier to just remove said art.

@Scarescrow To plagiarize is to call a work your own, which is not something any of us are doing when posting face claims. It's a bit of a stretch.
Just to address the original points of this topic.

Should we have a policy for this?

With just three instances of it happening over the course of two years, I don't think it's a very big problem. You should probably have a set of protocols you follow. But it sounds like the mod team already has one in place. If they don't want their image somewhere, and they can prove the image is theirs, simply remove it. It doesn't need to be any more difficult than that.

What if it's a new post?

Obviously we'd contact the member with the image in their CS and ask for it's removal, or should we?

I think you should. You almost have to. If you're worried about a lawsuit, something needs to be done. At least if they actually do have copyrights. From what I hear, they are quite expensive to obtain. But as others have said, it's the polite thing to do.

What if they say no?

Perhaps it would be best if it was said in the rules somewhere. But really, the forum could be put in danger, since it is essentially what is hosting the image. They simply must comply. There's not much room for debate.

Should we edit their posts ourselves?

If not outright delete it. Though I would give the user a chance to edit the post themselves.
>Watches the bitching thread

@DeadbeatWalking alright, that makes sense.

So it sounds like sometimes the art doesn't even need to be taken down, and can simply be linked back to the artists crappy blog or whatever. I think that would be the ideal solution to this problem, but sometimes people will say no to this, and there isn't really a whole lot you can do about it. but three times in two years really isn't a lot. I'm guessing the reason why the original poster didn't respond to the artist because they were probably inactive.
They are choosing to share their work in a very public place (imgur, tumbler, facebook, you get it) and shouldn't be surprised if said image is snagged by a roleplayer or whoever for personal use. I realize that doesn't help you, but it does make me wonder what is so harmful about having an image up on here. Do they not like the exposure? Would they be happier if we linked back to their blog or whatever? this "problem" would be easier to deal with if we knew exactly why they had a problem with their image appearing on a random RPG board.

It might also be worth investigating if these people even have a leg to stand on as far as their copy write claims go. From my understanding, most image boards basically have their own rights that they apply to an image when you decide to post your images to it.

So yea, I think first I'd like to know why artists find their images winding up on an RPG forum is damaging to them.
