Originally, she was going to be a hard support to match with being a protective mother.

Then I realized that the best way to protect people is with incredible violence.

slamming a little claim so i don't noodle on people's toes

i'm too tired to actually do so you gotta put up with sleep starved ramblings until i get a character sheet

empress, the most based tarot card

character's looking to be the team mom who was put through the wringer because she looked after all of her siblings (a lot). A big ol' good noodle.

persona 1 is kolga, literally cool wave (or cool one, poetic term for wave) and one of ran&aegir's daughters. the alternative would be the iceberg that hit the titanic, but that didn't have a name

persona 2 is ran, the norse goddess/embodiment of the ocean. unlike aegir's personification of the benefits of the ocean, ran liked to throw nets at sailors and pull them down into the depths. some people would call this an epic prank.

there is a large amount of character development that happen between these two.

ocean gods do, unfortunately, seem pretty passe already, i would have the rhinemaidens as number 1 and it ultimate-forming into something else from ring, but ring stuck to the normal, non-water related pantheon. frigg is close, but not exactly what i want to go for. maybe basilea into something. i don't actually think the two need to be linked beyond my desire to connect things, so it'll probably be basilea (atlantis baby; it counts) into ran.. i should probably sleep on it more.
maybe part 2: erode orbiter edition

Even though he was dead wrong and was about to drag a living person to the afterlife, he wasn't really disheartened by it. Personally, he considered it a mistake anyone could make. Plus, it wasn't like he was going to knock his soul out with his pool cue. He was just going to drag him to be transported back to Decibitus. His hand passing through the man would have been enough to figure out his mistake.

Probably.

With Maya wrenching the hammer out of his hands to convert it back to smoke, Lucian was left without anything to do as his party conversed with the man. Looking for any way to keep his hands occupied once more, he automatically took off his shirt and slung it over his shoulder. Though, it felt strange as his other shoulder also felt something: Chase's hand as he was patted and pulled away.

"Aw, thank you." He replied to Chase with a smile. How nice of him to compliment his appearance.

Without thinking too hard about what Chase said, he turned to Edward. "Chase thinks I'm pretty. That's nice of him."

An important conversation happened between the rest of the members, but it unfortunately went over Lucian's head. Something about fashion accessories and more dead people. As was the case for Lucian, most conversations that weren't direct orders or within 3 simple sentences were lost on him. However, his sieve-like mind managed to capture something.

"Wait. Maya." A look of genuine concern washed over Lucian's face. "Do we have to grab all of the souls?"

He paused before continuing. "Having a bunch of souls stay is bad, right?"

It would have helped if Lucian had remembered that he had a direct line to Siggy and he could have just asked her instead.

Alas, Lucian was born with rocks in his head.

With a clunk so refined it sounded like the forge of a blacksmith, Lucian recoiled as the hammer met the anvil he called a stomach. Immediately, he rolled as an indescribable noise escaped his lips. The strange mixture of bwuh, gehk, and puooo was all he could muster as the large mallet met his abs.

"Hey, that's not very nice." He said as he clutched Maya's hammer. Even though it was so rudely dropped on him, he still carried Maya's hammer. Maya's ability to keep it as a smokey gem was, however, something that Lucian didn't really think about. His ability to just not carry it was also something that he didn't quite think about.

With the bookish Edward formulating a plan, Lucian listened intently. The entire spiel went a little over his head. Lucian thought that a ward was like the trophy you won for being voted the most attractive man in England. It'd be pretty weird to trip over it. Nonetheless, Lucian replied the only way he knew how.

"Yes," he said as he gave Edward a thumbs up.

Unfortunately, Chase's directions were... not suited to Lucian. He could tell where east was in the morning and where west was in the evening, but he could never go beyond that. It was the morning so the sun was in the east. But since this was Japan, would the sun rise in the west? Was southwest clockwise or counter clockwise of the east? If it was the west, wouldn't it be the other way around?

Well, no sense thinking about it. He could just follow the rest of the gang instead.

And so they arrived to immediately be cast in whatever production was in progress. Wait, but Lucian was already decently famous. At least, to those who were in the know about fashion shows or looked at the covers of magazines. Well, he wasn't about to spoil a production date. Lucian had already began walking towards the girl with the blonde highlights. Something in his body just caused him to beeline to the nearest makeup artist/wardrobe dresser at any given moment. Thankfully, him immediately not being the centre of attention reminded him that his day job was no longer model and so he double backed towards the group.

"We do," Lucian said as he returned with a smile, "we're here to bring you to the afterlife."

It was apparent that Lucian was skipping a step in who they were looking for.

Maya's big ass mallet he was still carrying didn't help clear up any misunderstanding.

Lucian had pleasant memories of Japan. The occasional fashion show or gig brought to the island nation. Though, if asked what he did there beyond whatever job he was there for, he couldn't quite answer. His free time had been taken up by being approached for photos. Not that he had any issues with being approached on the street. After all, he enjoyed the attention. Plus, his manager always told him to pose for the camera. Who was he to deny people a few photos?

In that way, being able to experience Japan again without the attention was a breath of fresh air.

But what really was he supposed to experience?

Lucian couldn't tell an oak from a fir, so it was all trees to him. The wooden architecture and stone shrines were similarly lost on him. While an erudite would consider the craftsmanship and time period, Lucian could never quite think that hard about objects. To the model, he could simply buy things like that at the local garden centre. As such, Lucian went to experience Japan in his own way: with his back against the earth and eyes looking at the clouds. That begged an important question. Why was Lucian's first idea to experience Japan to look at the sky?

Well, obviously because Japan's clouds were different than England's. Thinking otherwise would be absurd.

Wait. He wasn't here on a vacation. He was here for a job.

Then again, it wasn't like it was a mission to hunt down a wisp causing trouble. Sure, if a soul overstayed their welcome, they would become evil. The process wasn't immediate, though. Lucian had enough time to slow down, take a breather, and think about what the clouds resembled.

Like the large foreboding cloud above him. He could swear that it looked exactly like another reaper. In fact, if he didn't know any better, he would have said that it was an actual person looking down on him.
If you're okay with miracle being a sort of blackbox situation when we actually have to use the dice roll system (wherein whoever's in charge of the combat situation will somehow fenagle the effect) and having some sort of cooldown between casts of a spell so nobody loses their mind trying to get like 30 effects, Lucian looks good to go into the character tab!

On the first bit, yes. My main idea was that if it was inconsequential (like doing a bit in more casual moments) I'd just do the gag. If the spell is actually important like in combat, it's all GM fiat since his spells can do practically anything.

On the second bit, you're implying that Lucian has the brain cells to cast more than one spell per post.
Reaching Doppler was different. While those of the outer colonies would be used to travelling for months in zero-gravity, it was the first flight for many trainees. Those of Axial were saved by the half-hour long travel, but days of sick were expected for even the most prepared prospect from Mars. To make matters worse, this was the first time anyone was travelling under such strict scrutiny. Armed soldiers verified identities and acted as guards. The soldiers aboard the transport ships were of little help for those who became ill. They could only offer an antiemetic, a bag, and a sympathetic pat on the back.

After arriving at the landing bay, trainees weren't given long to get their affairs in order. They were quickly filtered through multiple lines. Their identities were vouched once again by an armed secretary. Their histories briefly interrogated. Their personal items had been taken to be reviewed, catalogued, and returned at a later date. After all, this was still a military compound and security was a necessity. Once filtered, they were pushed towards showers to wash off what the pitiful facilities on ships couldn't clean. Thankfully, whoever had designed Dopper had given mind to privacy. The typical military locker rooms had been discarded in favour of cramped single person stations. Finally, students were to wear their newly acquired uniform to orientation. It was a formal event, after all.

Military orientation was definitely military orientation. Standing in file for an hour with the only noise being demands of silence. Finally, an older man came to stand on the stage. While he chose to wear a drab suit for the occasion, it was apparent from his badges that he was a tenured member of the military.

The old man covered most of the bases in his speech. How ranks were an incentive for performance, how each day was scheduled, what topics you would now study, and things like that. A fair bit of housekeeping. The most important thing he covered, however, was the format of lances. To mirror how pilots engaged in missions, trainees were to be placed in a small group known as a lance for the purpose of training, study, and practice. Of course, their accommodations were to be kept separate, but they would remain in these small groups for the entirety of their time at the academy. The only way to change groups was if enough members flunked out or became otherwise incapacitated.

Once his speech was over--frankly, the majority of time had been spent waiting for his speech--all trainees had been ushered into smaller rooms to introduce themselves to the group and once again wait for their instructors.
