@Nerevarine So I decided to make something against my better judgement if you are still open.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Nation Name ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Greater Kingdom of Gotham and Jersey (More commonly Kingdom of Gotham)
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Flag ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Government ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Absolute Monarchy - The King holds all power and while land-owning vassals exist under him exist, they are strictly a bureaucratic division in most cases. Women inherit titles on equal terms with men meaning that there have been a few Queens of Gotham. The current monarch is one King Galahan; his wife, Queen Alianora. As is per tradition, the King always as the title of Gotham a while the Queen has the title of Jersey even if they are not actually from those places. Galahan himself is actually from the Duchy of Philadelphia but takes up the title King of Gotham. When referring to the Greater of Kingdom of Gotham and Jersey, typically just calling it the Kingdom of Gotham is acceptable (although some in Jersey will scorn you for it).
The people and ways of the Kingdom of Gotham and Jersey is a fairly unique blend of things, if not deceiving to the ignorant eye who often sees it as a bastardization of the knights of the crusade era of the Old World. This quirk is best exemplified by the language spoken known as "Anglolish" which, while using English as a base, mixes in Latin, German and Chinese which some astute listeners can pick up. You can converse with someone speaking Anglolish in English, although there would be some obvious awkwardness between them.
The four tenants of Gotham-Jersey culture are: Knowledge, Honor, Duty and Family. No matter how great one may be or how much wealth they possess, if they lack any one of those four tenants then they are nothing to the Kingdom. With a wealth of knowledge granted to them by the great archives of Philadelphia, New York and Washington DC, there has always been a quest for more information for the people of Gotham. This has lead to some going far and wide in their exploration and expeditions of the Old World to try and uncover whatever they get. Given that old world knowledge is near sacred to them, a common saying is that if you are ever attacked by the Kingdom of Gotham, the local archive or library is a far safer place to stay rather than a castle.
Honor has a core part is what sometimes dictates the actions of some. Guided by the Code of Javah, the interpretation is up to the individual but generally monk will have the final say in a case about honor although lords to have the power to do so as well. This has lead to some conflicts between some holy men and lords. Being scorned is the least of the worries of someone who is deemed to be dishonorable and death either by their own hands or that of the enemy’s is often the route those shamed choose. One should be careful to note that honor and morality aren’t the same thing; you could very well have an immoral person be seen in high regards as very honorable!
Duty translates not necessarily as service, but hard work. There is a very strong culture of “do it yourself” and that hard work will get you far. This mentality in part stems from an idealized version of the old “American Dream” so often talked about in many of the tomes of the great archives and while there’s limitations and other elements which can get in the way of one’s ascension by duty, it is quite helpful when trying to keep people focused and productive.
Family is something lifted from old Chinese cultures of “Shinsei”, old world Chinatowns that barricade themselves in and created impressive defenses and communities within them, as well as the need to stay close together and have large family born of these dark times. Men and women are expected to if not get outright married, but find a partner by the time they become 16 and have large families from there. Divorce is something heavily looked down upon but remarriage because your spouse passed away is tolerated.
Religiously, the nation follows variation of Christianity that blends in eastern thinkings as well as the previously mentioned “Four Tenants of Life” called Daxian. It follows a very Christian idea of God and Jesus but states that through enlightenment, normal men can be blessed by God’s chosen agents, the Celestine Saints, beautiful angelic men and women revered as saints by the populace, or even ascend into divinity and become Celestine Saints It is held that Jesus was in fact the first man to become enlightened and became a prophet to spread the good word of the lord. Ancestors who have accomplished great deeds are often praised as exemplars in the hopes that their souls can one day ascend to that of the Celestine Saints. There is no one fixed path which enlightenment requires, resulting in the formation of various schools of philosophical thought on how best to transcend, but it is required that everyone must be in balanced minds and follow the Four Tenants.
Although the kingdom title itself is fairly new, its land are not. Form from the two realms of the Duchy of Greater Jersey and the Duchy of York. Several generations ago, the two kingdoms were at near constant competition and war with one another, both growing and expanding to new places only to fight each other. There never went a year when there wasn’t some raid or skirmish or battle between armies and levies.
A village that once sat on the Jersey/York border, untouched by warring lords
But in a romance that is still told today as the greatest love story ever told, the heir to the throne of York fell in love with the young duchess of Jersey. The two met incognito at a dance and fell in love but they were not to be. Regardless, the heir continued to pursue his love who dropped him as man hints and openings as she could manage while under her regency. The story has been told countless times and countless embellishments ranging from the plausible to utter fantasy but it is at this point where the story splits.
Some say that the heir forced his way into the castle of the duchess when he found out that she was to be married off to someone else, fighting all the guards who came after him, and proposed to her all bloodied and wounded in her throne room. Some say that when the regent of Jersey died and the duchess was able to rule by herself, she declared immediate peace and married her lover. Others claim that the two were forced to meet on the field of battle but refused to kill each other so they committed suicide, only to be brought back by God.
Regardless, the two lovers were wed and brought an end to the year's old conflict; their tale forever remembered as the Romance of the Two Kingdoms. As such rose the Greater Kingdom of Gotham and Jersey. The two ruled the realm together by day and retired to their private chambers together at night. It is said that the two of them died together in their bed chamber upon old age in each other’s arms. To this day their mausoleum is something of a sacred site with the two being ascended into Celestines under the names of King Ithyron and Queen Vesyani.
A statue erected to Celestine-Queen Vesyani in one of the larger cathedrals.
Since then their inheritors have expanded the realm and towards the horizon and waged new wars for knowledge and glory. Although new threats have arisen as a new wave of marauders, raiders and pirates attack coastal and river settlements. Only after establishment of new militia and several invasions of more local pirate strongholds have the attacks subsided but even then, the waters aren’t free from the grips of the pillagers.
With the more modern times, there is an increasingly growing divide between the knightly orders and the Shinsei monks, especially over the use of gunpowder. Whereas some see the use of gunpowder to be a dishonorable and scornful thing, others just see it as a means to an end citing that there is nothing in any of the holy text which explicitly prevents the use of anything to gain an advantage on the enemy..
No nation can survive without a backbone to support it and while the economy of the Greater Kingdom is simple with few luxuries, it is robust and capable of fulfilling the nation’s needs. Farming, mining and metalworking are the largest industries, taking advantage of the former reserves and soil of the states of old. There exists a small market for more luxury items such as furs and honey, but they make up a tiny amount of the economy.
Interestingly enough, the most valuable thing that is exported from the kingdom is knowledge and education. Copies of old tomes and books as well as monks and mentors are sought after by those who wish to gain ancient knowledge or simply want to learn more. Some foreign nobles even send their children to study at one of the prestigious universities of the Kingdom of Gotham. Most of the revenue generated comes directly from this trade of knowledge.
The Shinsei are a very unique organizational division within the kingdom as they are given some sense of autonomy and are free of some of the regulations put in place. As such some of them have gained a reputation for either specializing in exotic wares or shaddier goods. The most controversial of which is gun powder, produced only by specialized artisans and alchemists within the Shinsei. However, this dislike of gunpowder does not translate into a dislike for modernization as the smiths of the realm are known to utilize many creative ways of doing their work faster and better such as water-powered hammers and coke-fuelled blast furnaces for producing the steel needed for arms and armor and tools.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Military ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
The Kingdom of Gotham is renowned for its knights, very well being the face of not just the army but the nation as a whole.Only nobles can become knights, partly due to tradition, partly due to the costs involved. Both men and women can become knights although there is a social preference for males; not that anyone with sense will deny a capable female fighter. For many, training to become a knight is something they start in childhood until they become squires in their younger teenaged years before becoming actual knights. However, knights aren’t just expected to be proficient in the arts of war,but i the arts of learning in general. The idea of a “scholarly warrior” and “learned soldier” is very present and knights are expected to be well versed and educated. Clad in chain and plate, knowledge and faith, the knights of Gotham ride upon magnificent steeds with blade and shield in the name of the king and kingdom!
All knights start out as Knights Errant, young bloods full of piss and vigor with more energy than skill and enthusiasm than experience. They only wear chainmail and proudly display icons of victory on their armor with pride if not but to themselves and each others. They have the most varied appearances as they try to out do each other. A number of them fight on foot with spears and swords despite being having access to mounts. Eager to prove themselves to their seniors, they can often be seen either charging into battle or the failed aftermath of such recklessness.
One step up are the Knight Paladins, veteran Knight Errants who have grown with age and experience. They are far more mature and level headed than their younger counterparts and form the backbone of knights for the kingdom. Dependable and brave, their lances and are the heralds of doom for their enemies and they ride them down atop their barded warhorses.
Paladins stirred on by religious frenzy may take a Crusader Oath and going a military order, becoming Knights Crusaders. They are fierce fighters who slay without mercy and drive by zeal. By far the most religiously inclined, their every act is towards their faith. Armed with holy mace, blade and lance, they certainly live up to the reputation of their ancient counterparts.
But above the Crusaders are the enigmatic Dark Knights, draped in all black and fighting only on foot. They are the sworn shadows that protect the king and his realm. Few have ever seen them and fewer have lived to tell the tale. Their training is esoteric and alien to many, guided under the teachings of the legendary hero of the old world, Saint Wayne.
Marine-at-Arms are the less glamorous side to the army but crucial to the defense of the realm. Given whatever they can find, these militia are raised with axes, swords, spears, bow and all manner of shields to the service of their liege or for the defense. Born to combat pirates and raiders, they are well verse in various naval skills and as their name suggests, can fight aboard ships and perform landing operations. Most of the time on land, they are used to anchor down flanks and screen for the knights while the nobles do their work.
Their equipment can vary wildly depending on where they are from. Rich levies from major cities and towns are well equipped and drilled with uniform armors and weapons while those on the border or rural towns are more akin to a mish-mosh peasant mob.
(Marine-at-Armies levies of a poor rural hamlet being called to arms)
(Levies emblazoned with orange shields, the traditional color of the Duchy of New York)
(The dark grey and black colors of a Marine-at-Arms raised by a military order as seen with their crosses)
(An archer of a well-off levy; crossbows are also a popular choice and even more so in some places where strong and trained bowmen are a rarity)
Not quite commoner, not quite noble, the Explorers are what many will actually see of the Greater Kingdom beyond its borders. Their ranks are as diverse as are the results of their expeditions, bored nobles, ambitious peasants, militant historians or glory-hungry adventurers all flock to the banner of the explorer in a quest for old world knowledge and goods. When called upon for war, they stand out having rough shields which few others, even Marine-at-Arms have and bring with them knowledge and experiences of fighting and adventuring that even Knight Crusaders lack.
The Shinsei monks of the “China Citadels” are often the spiritual guides of the armies and have on more than one occasion taken control over a large group of peasants. They are armed with the most exotic weapons such as claws, double bladed staffs and repeating crossbows; even the most wealthy noble would have trouble attempting to obtain weapons such as these. A gender split is implemented in the field of battle (although not in normal worship) with the male Fraternises being well versed in the art of close quarters combat and the female Sororitas being trained in the use of the repeating crossbow. Shinsei Abbots are the ones who lead monks in both their day to day activities and into battle; some are so respected that they have effectively become generals.
Engines of war are restricted to two main constructs: the field trebuchet and ballista. Field trebuchets are fairly self explanatory as is the ballista, a giant crossbow on wheels. Both have found commonly place given the disdain of gunpowder weaponry within the Kingdom. Variations of the ballista known as the Shinsei Repeating Ballista have been created by the Shinsei who use it for the exclusive protection of their own holdings.
War wagons are also fairly common, running along the iron roads of that crisscross the old lands or on rough roads. The have roofs that can be put up and have openings to create a section of wall from which to fire from. Common practice is to use these wagons as either supply trucks or patrol vehicles and have them form up into a fort or defense upon danger
Realizing his terrible mistake of having someone who had never touched a cart before take the wheel, Lewis quickly sought to rectify the error. Butting the previous driver out of the way, he handed him the gun that the Topdweller previously gave to him and kicked the brick off the pedal. Stabilizing the cart, the vehicle zoomed up a ramp onto one of the internal highways of the Wal, chased by a swarm of motorized bikes and home-made combat cars. Lewis couldn't see or hear the Wallord yelling anymore and presumed him to have gone back to his shitty little hovel and had his men finish the work. Typical lazy tyrant.
Darting his eyes between the road ahead and the rear view mirrors, the dodged and swerved to get out of the way of the many types of projectiles being flung at them. His own blaster sung songs of electrical death as Lewis wildly fired behind him but his inaccuracy was aggravating him.
"Hang on!" Lewis yelled as the wheel was forced towards one side, the rubber tire's unholy burning screeching filled the air. Jamming on the breaks before putting the stick-shift in reverse, Lewis turned the entire cart around, hoping its reverse speed was as good as its forward speed. With a clear view, his pistol now sung clearer, sharper tunes as Lewis could now see what he was aiming at. The man was no driver of other worldly skill, but he had picked this move up in his travels; one particular caravan of Autoboyz enjoyed using it to great effect.
"Yeah ha!" the Bargain Hunter roared as he shot a man off his bike into the axels of a nearby truck, "Come get some!"
Of course, tempting fate like that rarely works out for the person in question. No sooner had Lewis issued his challenge had fate replied with a large, flaming mass aimed right at the cart, launched from the catapult of the same truck whose undercarriage was now covered in viscera. Lewis barely had time to curse and try to move the cart out of the way before its explosion sent the cart flying over the edge, into the dark below that engulfed them as the group fell from the elevated highway.
As the black faded from Lewis's eyes, it was replaced with white that not only filled his sight, but also his lungs. Hacking into the powdery ground, dyed a slight red from a dripping wound, his eyes open wide with fear as he scrambled onto his back. His lungs hacked up more powder as he tried to stand, but the pile of soft, white powder was up to his knees until he dug himself out.
The cart was a burning wreck, dented and destroyed with its former occupants and Lewis's team scattered about the place, all in various states of unconsciousness in the powder dune. The veteran bargain hunter's spine went cold and he could only barely control his fearful shivering. Digging his hands into his pack, he pulled out a handful of glowsticks and shock them on as he tried to rouse his team, only stopping once he realize the soft, erie music playing in the far, dark distance that only amplified the feeling someone was right behind him, staring into him from behind a joyful, smiling, twisted mask.
"Comeoncomeon! Wake dammit! We need to move!"
Lewis looked up in the hopes of seeing the highway they fell from above, shedding light onto this white powdery hell that all men feared. But he only saw a black abyss above him. And the feeling that it was looking right back at him.
OOC NOTES: Took a while, but here's another post! Welcome to Baby Goods gents! If you find my constant puppetting to be annoying or unwanted, please do tell me in the OOC as well as any other comments or concerns you may have. If not, wake up and try not to go insane. Good luck!
@Legion02 Of course! I was actually going to ask if anyone wanted to do that. What do you have in mind? Another tribe? Host of demons? Herd of Beastmen?
@Oak7ree Maybe an idea for one of your Elite units could be like Fireloque Knights? Basically knights who carry handguns or have special lances that have like a blunderbuss or something mounted on them as well.

Name: Grand Kingdom of Bretonnia
Ovreview: A land of chivalry and knights and very much a reflection of Authorian legends starkly contrasted with the oppression of its common masses. Its nobility is large and extordinarly wealthy compared to the peasants. Worship of the Lady of the Lake is widespread with many noble knights going out on Grail Quests to earn the Lady’s favor to drink from the blessed Grail Chalice. But centuries of traditions are being challenged by a new king, unlike any before him. Blessed by the Lady herself, their current king is actually of peasant blood with no noble lineage to speak of, he was ordained to be King of Bretonnia and all his descendants to be counted as noble. While popular with the peasants, the nobility only begrudgingly follow their King out of honor and respect for the Lady’s choices but the realm is far from unified.
Race & Culture
Humans make up the vast majority of peoples in the Kingdom, although some other races and cultures can be seen in the few urbanized cities of the realm.
Nobles tend to live in splendor and opulence while the peasantry is treated little more than like cattle or livestock at best by most. Anyone who isn’t a noble knight or a lucky merchant likely lives in
Worship of the Lady of the Lake is compulsory for the nobles who often undertake Grail Quests to earn her favor and be able to sip from the Holy Grail. Worship of the Lady is encouraged for even the peasantry by the nobles, but for the most part little thought it given to what they worship so long as its not Chaos entity.
Government
Britannia relies on the old ways of feudalism with a King ruling all of the Dukes and their Duchies. In law, everything in Bretonnia is the King’s but in particle sense, it doesn’t work like that. Noble blood is everything and only males can inherit titles. To be considered a noble, both of your parents and grandparents must have been noble, making anyone becoming a noble nearly impossible and their line will die out quickly after that. The King must confirmed by the Fay Enchantress for his rule to be validated and technically the Fay Enchantress has greater power than the King and can overrule him, but she rarely gets involved in politics. Kings must also must have complete a Grail Quest and drunk from the Holy Grail meaning there’s always a goo chance the king is competent.
This is why the current monarch, King York Gallowgoth, is so unique and controversial. He is not born of noble blood at all, yet the Lady of the Lake herself appeared and ordained the peasant as king and allowing. When the nobles boldly protested this break of tradition saying that he wasn’t a Grail Knight, the Lady simply gave York a blessed blade and sent him on his quest. Everyone thought he would die quickly, but instead he would complete his quest three years later after the Battle of Elmburough where he managed to hold down and entire flank with but a few Men-At-Arms who held their ground and even personally bested the enemy commander in single combat where the Lady appeared before him, allowing him to drink from the Grail. While the nobles do not respect him completely, they are none the less obedient to his rule, if not because of the Lady more than the man himself.
Industry
Bretonnia is backwards and perhaps the least advanced of all human nations. They have firmly resisted industrialization and have completely shunned the advent of gunpowder. Many things are still made by hand by skilled crafted by artisans although mills and simpler machines powered by wind and water are common.
The vast amount of wealth is held by the nobility with the peasant handing over 90% of their harvest and goods which is then handed back out and distributed by the nobility. There are the lucky peasants who have some how become merchants and are significantly better off the the peasant who are in a constant state of poverty, but still pale in comparison to the nobles. While “Crowns” are the official currency, produced in copper, silver and gold (hamlets are luck if they can manage to produce a few copper crowns a day; any peanuts who posses a single silver is considered to be extremely wealthy by most of his kin
Magic Lore of Life Lore of Heavens Lore of Beasts Lore of Fire
Army
Core:
Man-At-Arms - Entering the military is one o the few reliable ways of getting ahead as a peasant is to join the ranks of the local lord’s men-at-arms who often grant those who sign up a large and desirable sign on bonus. Only to reveal that said bonus has to be spent by the individuals on buying equipment for themselves. They wear chainmail with flat-top or kettle helmets and carry swords, spears and halberds along with shields that they can form into a Roman Testudo like formation.
Auxiliary Archers - By law, all Bretonnian peasants are required to know how to use the bow as to serve as levied archers in his lord’s army. Any who survive the entire campign are rewarded with a single copper crown as payment for their service. They use various types of longbows and war bows with several types of arrows ranging from fire to pox to heavy armor piercing but only have crude hand weapons and tools and no armor.
Knights Errant - Young, brash nobles who have yet to prove themselves and try to make up any shortcoming in skill and discipline with enthusiasm. Along with Knights of the Realm, they form the bulk of the army’s cavalry contingent. Their armor is always the flashiest as they try to show off their colors, much to the chargrain of the most experience soldiers. They charge forth with lance, blade and shield.
Knights of the Realm - The backbone of the armies of the Lady, these are knights who have proven themselves and have earned the right to own land having officially being inducted into the ranks of the nobility. They too have lance and shield and ride atop barded warhorses but tend to favor maces and war hammers over plain swords as their experience has taught them the blade is not great against armor.
Elite:
Battle Pilgrims - Either feral or fanatic peasants who have a zealous devotion to the Lady and her servants and unlike traditional Men-at-arms, they are willing to die to hold the line. They are often based out of a Grail Chapel or other holy sites and will use any weapons and armor that have been discarded by the knights and often make their own equipment by hand. They weird large shields, hand weapons and their distinctive high collar shoulder guards. Battle Pilgrims are not an official army unit, but no commander would ever turn down men and women willing to die for the Lady.
Grail Relique - When a Grail Knight dies, his arms, armor and even very body still hold holy magics imbued within them. Battle Pilgrims will often carry their hero on their shoulders, acting as the horse to the skeleton of the dead knight. Its very presence inspired all around it and those carrying the Relique would sooner die than drop it. This also holds a second purpose as their zealous guard of the body means that it cannot be touched by necromancers.
Foot Squires - Young men who are not yet old enough to mount a horse and act as Knight Errants, squires are essentially apprentices to older Knights to learn the ways of chivalry and battle, accompanying them to battle with great sword in hand. Every squire wishes to be a knight and every knight wishes for a better squire.
Questing Knights - Those who hear the clarion call of the Lady are driven to seek her favor and become Questin Knights. They ride out around Bretonnia and even the world doing chivalrous deeds and preforming brave, selfless acts in the hopes of being granted the Lady’s Blessing. Although their quests may take years and many die in their noble quests, there will always be those who seek the favor of their goddess.
Mounted Yeomen - Men at arms who have survived for so long and have become so experienced that they gain the limited right to ride lame or crippled horses. Yeomen are divided between being sergeants of Men-At-Arms regiments and being mounted scout cavalry with shield and spear or being mounted bowmen. Many of these Yeomen are as experienced and capable of the noble knights they fight with but the nobles have either ignored or even surpassed these boasts.
Pegasus Knights - Wild flying herds of pegasi are not uncommon in the lands of Bretonnia but it takes a particularly skilled hand to tame them, a brave (or foolish) heart to ride them and a wealthy bank to afford them. As such, only the wealthiest of nobles can ride to battle upon such steeds but they form the best flying warriors of the Old World.
Rare:
Grail Knights - Living incarnates of the Lady’s will, these knights have been granted favor of the lady and have drank from the Holy Grail making them near demigods with extraordinary strength, vigor and vitality as well as prolonging their effective lives greatly. They almost glow with an ethereal air about them and are the paragons of Bretonnian society, riding into battle with flaming lance or blade to destroy those who threaten the realm.
Trebuchet - The go-to siege engine of Bretonnia that has been around for generations. The trebuchet is never built to be transported and in the past only the important parts where kept and transported and most of the frame was built on site given the lack of people who can actually build and aim the damn with nobles having distain for such things and peasants being too stupid otherwise. However in recent years, the few engineers have found a way to make a “collapsible” trebuchet allowing for fast quicker transport and set up.
Skaal Guard - Once a tribe of northern raiders who built a settlement on the shores of Bretonnia, the Skaal Guard are a very recent formation where King Gallowgoth offered them an alternative to being put to the sword, acknowledging their press in battle. They’re a strange mishmash of both Bretonnian herald and tabards over Norscan bodies wielding norther great axes. Its said that the true reason why the King created the Skaal Guard was out of fear that having a more traditional bodyguard would open himself up to the plots of the nobles who wish to see him gone and that having a guard loyal to him first and not Bretonnian traditions would protect him. While many question their loyalty, they have served with unwavering courage and ferocity unseen in Bretonnia as they charge into the frey.
