Back when dinosaurs ruled the Earth, I got started with writing online on the Spore forums. Man, those were the days. We're talking like 12 years ago 2010-ish!

I've been here on and off for almost as long, and have GM'd a bunch of different things to varying success.

@Eviledd1984, I thought we were trying to gain safe passage for an entire army.

Yeah, I saw that he didn't really define how big his "group" was. Oh well, it might be a fun little revelation for the orcs
@Kangutso

Fortunately history is of no concern for your character this time, so maybe that will make it easier.

As in for a name, that too should ideally come after you've determined personality, at least if you want it to sound fitting or immediately leave an impression of some sort. In most cases I put some thought into names and attempt to come up with a good one, though I know some people who just pick the first thing they come up with. They then proceed to roll from there without worrying about deeper meaning or anything of the sort. I pretend not to judge them for it, but deep down I really do

Jokes aside, I'll offer to toss a few name ideas your way if you're really struggling.

Here, if you're struggling to think of a personality then try just going on a list like this and pick some adjectives at random to get a framework. Once you've got a couple of those main traits, you can weave them together into an actual personality and then from there add pretty details like domain and portfolio. It's like making a building; before you make the walls of brick and mortar, you need some loose scaffolds as your framework.

5, give or take a few.

Let's see... all the main characters of Tin (all of whom were sociopaths), your character in my RP (asshole), plus Ialu of this RP (asshole extraordinaire). When you add the God of Air you're making to the mix, it seems that the Cyclone just brings in jerks
Not that I'm complaining. A few jerks can spice up an RP.

Tsk tsk, of all those listed, we had two drunken fools (only one being really malevolent), one misguided zealot whose honor drove him to near madness, one wise old uncle figure, and then one guy who was such a psychopathic killer and power-hungry lunatic that I won't bother trying to defend him.

Now the challenge is for you to think back and tell me which ones were which!

@Kho

Any ETA on when this will start as of now?
@Hael

How many characters of mine have you even seen?
@Kho

Meh. If I managed to make a (demi)god of greed with what I thought were really unique, fitting, and powerful abilities, I'm sure a god of spacetime could be pulled off. It just takes more creativity than something generic like fire.

So @Kangutso if you have the creativity go for it. If not, war and honor seems an appropriate combination and something that might also be fun.

Here's a tip: envision a character first, and then make the domain/portfolio around them. Not the other way around. I've found doing this somewhat harder, but I'm convinced that it lends itself to better results. When you think, "I want a god of air!" you're left with not much of a guideline, but when you envision an arrogant, meddlesome, and unpredictable loudmouth of a god, the idea of air comes naturally. It's fitting for a guy who's full of himself
I've been thinking about it and don't you guys think Astarte may be a bit OP in terms of what she can achieve? Magic has a way of being used in all kinds of things. Or maybe we could make sure the Magic Goddess keeps her ultimate versatility but her abilities and creations aren't as refined or resistant as other, more specialized Gods?

She never struck me as being overly powerful or influential in the last RP, but maybe that was because she kept mostly to herself.

Magic really isn't much broader than change or chaos.

On that topic, I'm still wondering if change should be my domain and air the portfolio, or vice-versa. Any opinions?
@Kangutso

Sure.
@Kho

An intriguing concept! Perhaps that will better serve one of my two guys. I can play an Ialu-esque character the way I should have, with him starting pathetically weak and then eventually transitioning into something formidable.

Actually our concepts might be pretty similar. The hero (or not-hero, at first?) I had in mind would be a Pharaoh/Priest-King/Emperor of some place. I envision him as a foil for my other hero, since the two will certainly not get along.

Since you, Kho, are the master of giving me feedback on names, how do some of these sound?

Cyrus
Kamil
Castus
Zirix
Epaphos
Heru

He's a priestly/scholarly type inspired by Cyrus the Great, complete with some Zorastrian supersitition, lunacy, and mysticism mixed in. Not some plebeian fool like Napoleon.

Meh, who is this insect? No, Eskandar will not be a mere king of conquerers, he will be a Conquerer of Kings, King of Kings, a Shahenshah, an Emperor, Imbrator, Kaiser, Vicegerent of the Gods, the Will of the gods made manifest!
But above all, he will be a Man.

Pfft, mai hero gon be b3tter

:P

Edit: Heroes! I have two planned already!
Oh, and in line with my previous comment:
